Moleskine

  • Great showing out there today with 17 for the first anniversary of Fast Twitch
  • Welcome FNGs to Fast Twitch – hope to see you back out again soon
  • No takers for a burpee mile or beer mile as suggested in the pre-blast, but we did end up with the Venison Mile.  Bambi wanted in on the action, joining our pack in the warm-up.  I think that was the fastest we’ve ever seen some of the PAX move.
  • Congrats to Haze moving up another notch in seniority tomorrow.  Seems the age is catching up with him after the pleas to head back the short way after the 11s, apparently concerned he might not be able to make it back in time.
  • On behalf of Spackler, we’re all so proud of Semi-Gloss.
  • Thanks to Hops for taking us out in COT

Preblast: Fast Twicheversary

We plan to celebrate our first full year of fast twitch tomorrow.

Time for the Mile.  Our celebration will start with a brief warmup followed by a timed mile – 4 laps around the track.   Goal is simple:  try to meet or beat your personal best time.   We’ll have a timer out there for those who do not have watches.   Of course you are welcome to be more creative.  Here are a few ideas to get started.  There will be a special prize for anyone who completes the Burpee Mile aka ‘Death by Burpees’:

http://www.npr.org/2014/05/06/309833057/on-your-mark-get-set-no-a-list-of-inadvisable-ways-to-run-a-mile

We’ll also incorporate some other fond memories from the first year of Fast Twitch.  Requests are welcome.  Anyone up for a  “Cowboy Run”?

How many more?

12 pax busted another full hour of #F3FastTwitch this morning.

The Thang:

Run to Davie Park 80%+ speed

Brief COP: merkins, squats, MCs

Partner up; partner one runs lap down to gate and back around lot;  partner 2: 20 derkins, 20 dips, 9 pull-ups;  flapjack;  2X

Mosey back down to gate

Sprint to each light post;  5 merkins at each post; continue into the bottom lot

Indian run back to school and down to track

The Runaround:  Partner 1 sprint suicide goalpost-to-goalpost; Partner 2 lap on track; flapjack; continue till Q calls it.

One lap cool-down;

Mary: 49 flutter kicks

10 burpees OYO

Total distance: 5.5 mi

Moleskine:

  • T-Claps happy birthday to Chelms aka Tater Tot.  you can thank me later for the 49 flutters
  • YHC should have been clearer that The Runaround is a timed exercise; kept hearing “how many more?” and “do we keep going?” across the track in the dim gloom
  • By popular request, YHC decided to start adding in some 10-counts into Fast Twitch (albiet within 6-inch planks), hopefully those provided enough short breaks to recharge
  • Good to see some new faces to Fast Twitch today – hope you’ll come back
  • Great send-off by Slim Fast – thanks brother

Announcements:

  • Peak 51 moderate workout starting Matthews elementary this Thursday, 5:30am;  headlock your friends who may be on the fence.  With this addition, we will now have 3 moderate workouts each week.
  • AG Middle – bike ride scheduled for June 14, Francis Beatty Park; contact Chelms for more info
  • 3rd F Wednesday, Southpark Bojangles, noon

Post-MudRunaround

Six men emerged from the early morning gloom to get their post-mudrun legs stretched out in Fast Twitch style.

The Thang:

  • Brief mosey warmup in parking lot; lineup for indian run (IR)
  • IR 1 mile to bottom of hill at Coburn
  • Partner up for catch-me-if-you-can 1 mile to Rea (10 merkins)
  • Moderate pace up to entrance at Calvary
  • Sevens up entrance hill; burpees and squats
  • Recovery pace through Calvary; AYG last 100m back to Rea; line up for IR
  • IR back to school; AYG across parking lot down to track
  • The Runaround: Partner 1 sprint suicide 25,50,100m while Partner 2 runs 400m lap; flapjack; rinse repeat for 15 mins

Total mileage: 5.8

Moleskine:

  • A little thunder could be heard early AM, but thankfully held off and kept to a light drizzle throughout.  Apparently it was snowing in Nebraska?
  • Some of the group were recovering from a few mudrun scrapes and bruises so went a bit lighter on the intensity – but made up for it in total mileage
  • Saved the best for last with the Runaround for the bonus 15 minutes
  • Everyone pushing it hard out there – was glad to see Brew out there pushing it the whole way – even pushing me on that last lap on the runaround – way to keep up the endurance
  • Always an honor to lead the Men of Fast Twitch.

Where’s Alf?

At 05:16, no sign of our fartsacking Q, so we headed out on an improv Fast Twitch

The Thang:

Laps around lot for warm-up, brief COP in side lot with some IC, SSHs while the highjacking Q took a moment to invent something for the morning.

Run out to Windbluff hill.   Hill sprint ladder to 7.  Burpees at top, squats at bottom.

Run to Arboretum back woods; plank o rama; 20 merkins IC.

Through woods into parking lot.  Gassers in front of Michaels, winner calls exercise at end of each; included burpees, merkins, LBCs, and others;

Mosey to front of Arboretum, line up for indian run back to school.  Break out back at Strawberry, AYG back to the parking lot.

Moleskine:

  • Alf Unfortunately our QIC was still a little too tired from the St.Patty’s #GRC, despite two others showing up bright and early; apparently it had something to do with an alarm clock malfunction
    • Throughout the rest of the week Alf has been talking about this new high-powered alarm clock he has now invested in, so keep him honest out there.
  • Apparently YHC is not so creative on an improv Q; after passing Rounding Run, I heard some mumblechatter about Windbluff… fairly predictable, I know;  it seemed like enough to keep everyone interested (and winded)
  • Nice pushing it out there gents.  Always a pleasure to lead Fast Twitch.

Total mileage: 4.7

Runaround at the Turn

5 men got the runaround last Thursday at Devil’s Turn

The Thang

  • Moderate tempo run out to the school
  • Lap around track and regroup* at end of field

Partner up for The Runaround

  • Partner 1 runs a sprint suicide goalpost to goalpost
  • Partner 2 runs a lap around the track
  • Whoever finishes first planks till other arrives
  • Flapjack
  • Repeat 3x

Tempo run back to start.  Total mileage: 6.2

*sans Bratwurst who (perhaps wisely) stuck with the track

Moleskine

  • Small, but fast, group out there on Thursday.   (I suppose if you’re F3 handle is “Cheetah”, you’d better be fast)
  • Bratwurst decided he wanted no part of the runaround, despite not even knowing what it was until we got started.  Anyway, left us with a good even number for pairs.
  • The constant movement left little room for 2nd F chat.
  • Great to see Cheetah down from up north, and Long Haul in from the way north
  • Nice pushing it out there fellas, looking forward to seeing you all out again soon.

Catch Me If You Can

The Thang:

Brief warm-up lap with some SSHs, IWs

Catch Me If You Can: partner up; partner 1 does 10 merkins, while other partner runs toward destination.  Partner one finishes merkins and sprints to catch partner 2 to tag and flapjack.  Continue to bottom of Coburn hill (~1 mi).  Plank-o-rama while waiting.

Sprint burpee ladder up Coburn hill to 7.

Catch Me If You Can: from bottom of Coburn through Carrington up to 51; LBCs

Catch Me If You Can: up 51 back to the school; squat jumps

Team relay sprint across parking lot.

Mary: dollies, protractor

Mileage: 4.14mi

*except Chelms who only logged 3.85mi due to shortcuts

Moleskine:

  • Good mix of sprint work and hills today, continuing the streak of off-campus workouts since I believe December.  Not sure when we’ll head back to the track
  • Spackler brought the smokeboots today, giving Haze a run for his money.  Surprised Haze even caught up seeing how Spacker busted out of the gates.
  • Finished up with 4.14mi, but somehow Chelms ended up a bit short mumbling something about getting lost between houses.  You can owe us 0.29mi next time.
  • Heard a mention of moving to summer hours, extending workout to full hour;  will consider as we approach #FastTwich 1 year anniversary
  • Nice job today… thank you all for coming out!

Another Roundabout

8 pax got out and put in some mileage before “snowmageddon” comes back to Charlotte again, threatening to take away days from spring break (if your kids go to CMS).

The Thang:

Warm-up: SSHx20, IWx20, Squatx20

Run to Davie Park down near gates

Roundabout:  Partner 1 runs up hill and around lot to playground, 20x merkins, 20x dips, 20x jump-ups, runs back down to gate.  Partner 2 runs other direction, down and around back lot, then back up to gate.   First partner to arrive does squats till other arrives. Flapjack.

Repeat roundabout 3x

10 jump squats, lunge walk to gate, run back start; protractor to finish off.

Total mileage: 4.3

Moleskine:

  • Fraisier was out in front as usual – nice job… YHC didn’t even get a chance to do squats – everytime I got back to the start he where already there.  Not too surprising from a guy who came in 4th out of 16 in the Muthaship race on Monday (and said he didn’t even realize it was a race until the end, so he was running it casually)
  • Despite the strong pace set by Fraiser, everyone else seemed to stay close together and in the end there was only about a couple minute separation between the front and the back.  Nice pushing it!
  • It is an honor to lead Fast Twitch. Thanks for coming out.
  • Will be putting together the new schedule for Fast Twitch Q’s this week.  Please ping me if you’re interested.

Announcements:

  • Blue Ridge Relay signups still open, but filling fast.  At least two teams are locked in from Area 51. Looking for 6-7 more pax to round out another 12 man team.   Contact Baracus if interested.
  • Upcoming bike ride on a Saturday in March with AG Middle School students.  Planning to meet in the morning at Col Beatty Park for a bike ride, followed by lunch, finishing by 1pm.  Far Side is coordinating and will be sending out info soon.   This event is also open to 2.0s.

Moleskin

T-claps for the four guys that came out.  Haze was upset again about being the war daddy.  Everyone did a great job pushing themselves and their pace.  This was my first Q at #FastTwitch and I appreciate the support.  Sorry it took so long to get the back blast out.  There was some technically errors on my part.  Hope to do it again soon.

Thanks to Purple Haze for taking us out in prayer.

Moleskine:

  • Heard lots of groans from folks about the pull-ups.  Too bad for this crowd, YHC was out this Saturday and did not partake in the Murph.
  • Lobster Roll got the lucky spot to run twice in the relay, and still managed to smoke the other two heats.  Nice running!
  • Still a bit slippery out there… YHC slid in the gloom and jammed his foot into something very hard.  Looks like a couple broken toes turning purple… may be out for a short while.
