Mini Murph Strikes Again

8 Pax (including three 2.0s) braved the 55 degree weather for an epic upper body beat down. Many 10 counts were had and lots of huffing an puffing. YHC could barely move the next morning due to the Qdrenaline.

Moleskine: After nearly two months on the bench, it was fantastic for YHC to hit the gloom and punish the pax. Prayers are welcomed for healing since YHC finds going to the YMCA a bit mundane after doing F3 for 2 years. Yes, there is a fern in the corner of the room and it does appear to be real. No it does not come close to absorbing all of the CO generated by a bunch of sweaty 40 somethings on the elliptical machines (YHC included).

There was much grunting and groaning and the occasional Joker crop dusting (what would the Matrix be without that?). Overall a good time was had by all.

Very little chatter this morning. Very little recovery time. Coincidence? I think not.

A hearty welcome back Kotter to Lex Luthor after his 2 month paternity leave. YHC didn’t see any stretch marks, but who knows what may be going on Under Armour.

Announcements: Brew will be starting up a new moderate workout Thursdays in May, bringing the total count to 3. Site TBD. Good opportunity to bring out those who are a little intimidated or need to ease into fitness. Also great for those coming off the injured reserve list.

The New Standard

12 pax de-fartsacked and showed up for a standard Salt Lick style beatdown. YHC discovered early that the use of language learned in his native state of Utah was foreign to others in the south. For example, it was normal to call a basketball goal structure a “standard” growing up. Confusion ensued.

Webster’s defines a standard as follows:

7. (Mech. & Carp.) An upright support, as one of the poles of a scaffold; any upright in framing.

Seeing as how YHC is a part time engineer as well, the use of “standard” appears to be an intellectually superior way of referring to a “basketball hoop support” as the instructions were referring directly to the upright pole that holds the hoop and backboard itself. Anyway, I digress….

Many were sore from the Day Zero challenge on Saturday, so little hair o the dog was just in order. We tend to forget about soreness after a good beating (well until later in the day anyway).

YHC was recovering from a nasty cold and was unsure if the workout as listed on the weinke would get done. It did, and early which left plenty of time for some good ol Mary. Pull ups were a favorite and as promised per YHCs unwritten Q contract. As usual Lobster Roll made us all look old and slow. Watch those fragile egos there brother!

Pax anticipated probably more pull ups than were handed down as YHC has a certain fondness for this wonderful movement (although it was noted by Crabcake that YHC was not performing them properly – i.e. full extension). Quantity vs. Quality!. Just to note – YHC did not call Crabcake out for his poor form while exiting the mulch pile. Hope that ankle heals quickly brother.

The coupon circuits seemed to be especially enjoyable for many. As always, the size and density of coupons vary greatly between men. FYI – if you could do a full sprint with your rock in one hand, it was probably too small.

Two FNGs were in the gloom this morning – solid work brothers… Welcome Rollback and Backhand! See you both (hopefully) in the gloom. Backhand, don’t make me regret going to the carpet to keep you from being named Fuzzy Balls!

14 men showed up for a drizzly beat down… a great way to start the work week. The Carolina fwinter (that’s the fallish winter generally experienced in these here parts) has definitely set in – evidenced by the showing of the elusive yet gentle Joker Fuzzy Vest (patent pending). Not a snuggie, yet not quite Under Armour, this fashion legend makes its appearance in only the most unfavorable conditions, along with many a compression stocking.
