Michael Jordan’s got nothing to do with it!

Michael Jordan’s got nothing to do with it!

11 (not 23) pax mustered prior to launch…and Pothole & Pepe rolled in after 5:30am. Area51’s resident gentleman aka Ductwork waited on our LIFO’s and ultimately 13 made it to COP down at Carmel MS.

Below is more or less what happened in this combined Moleskinny Thang for the October 28 edition of DMZ:

We ran from the launch lot down to Carmel MS and circled up.

COP consisted of IW’s, H-R merkins, staccato squats & American Hammers x 23 IC

We than ran back to the launch lot and over to New City Church where we would spend the remainder of the downpainment.

Here’s what we did…I think:

Find some wall. Walthar N’Djaiye x 23 IC. People’s Chair with overhead press x 23 IC. YHC did Titan no favors to his ailing elbow with the Walthar’s. #cobains

23 more Walthar N’Djaiye’s and then some more People’s Chair.

Mosey to the church courtyard and partner up. P1 Runs 0.2’ish miles around 2/3 of the church buildings while P2 did Flutters. Flapjack. Repeat with CDD’s and then with Step Ups/Jump Ups on the wall.

Make our way over to the deceptively painful & sloped parking lot for the following.

Burpee broad jump 50 yards. Mosey back down.

Lungewalk, Backwards lungewalk, Crab walk, Backwards crab walk, 2 AYG runs.

Run back to the launch lot for some Mary.

Freddy Mercury x 23 IC

10 Burpees oyo

Finito.

So the 23 counts were for 2 reasons…the lesser of which is Wake Forest’s #23 ranking. Any ranking for the gridiron Deacs is a rarity, thus, worthy of celebrating. The more important reason is that this week, YHC and M. Hops will celebrate our 23rd wedding anniversary. While marriage is hard and sometimes really hard, I’m thankful to God for the gift of my wife. I often don’t treat M. Hops like the gift she is, but she chooses to love me, and I her. Love is a choice after all. Love can be defined as: the other’s best interest at your expense. Think about that in any relationship, and I think you’ll find it’s true.

And No Lorax – the 23 counts had nothing to do with Jordan. Not everything revolves around the baby blue Tarheels and their pretty argyle designer uniforms.

Here’s some other sundry observations from this morning’s proceedings:

Aquafresh is pushing himself to get back into top shape after a herniated disc. Good work.

Our WD Talkbox was getting after it this morning, as was Pothole once he found us at Carmel MS.

YHC forewarned Chalet that he wouldn’t get much mileage (2.2’ish I think today) at this bootcamp workout….he understood…I think.

Met a few pax for the first time this morning (might have something to do with the fact I rarely post at DMZ anymore — going to address that going forward): Gizzard – who’s name derivation is random and makes no sense but it’s awesome. Overdraft – who anyone could tell you, even in the morning gloom, is the spitting image of his brother Lorax. Pepe, who I’m guessing was similarly disappointed like Chalet in the lack of mileage logged. #cobains. Did I mention DMZ is a bootcamp workout? Let’s make them great again! Also met Sloppy Seconds for the first time…I think. There’s apparently a Sloppy, who I’ve met…I think. Mailman was pushing hard as well.

Good work men. Thanks to Aquafresh for asking this old site Q to dust off the Monday morning shoes. Always a privilege to Q the pax of F3.

The Wobble

WARM UP

Quick Mosey to the round about with Gazelles returning for the 6 in suicide fashion. Group up at round about and go again for the corner of the Target parking lot with Gazelles returning for the 6 again.

Circle up for:

10 Atomic T Merkins

20 Moroccan Night Clubs

10 Potato Pickers Jimmy Duggans

THE THANG

Parking lot Suicides. Start with 5 Merkins on the out and go up by 5 until you reach 20 Merkins. On the return 10 In/Outs. Beat the Q challenge. For everyone I beat, group does 10 Dry docks. We did 10.

Another round of parking lot suicides except no exercise this time. 10 more dry docks as punishment – we did 10.

Mosey back to start for a “circuit”. Partner up. 4 Stations: Curls w 27lb bar, Crawl bear up hill, Military Press with 25 or 30 lb dumbells, run straight away, Bent over tricep extension with light dumbells, bear crawl down hill, 5 each leg of 1 legged lunge, 1 legged step up, run straight away. Stay at station until next group arrives (progressive shift). Had planned on two rounds but ran out of time so we did 1 round.

Same partners. Partner 1 Run lap. Partner 2 exercise. 100 foot release squats. 100 50 each leg berishnicoffs. Hats off to Blue Screen and Posse for completing. Less than a minute left…..wall squats again until time.

MOLESKIN

Good push out of Big Tuna today. He was consistently up front.

Shop Dawg pushed hard on the suicides and beat me the second time.

No site Q’s in attendance. I will assume work had them outside the 28173 zip code.

I think Smokey left something. Swimmers in a full on sprint couldn’t catch him so I guess Swimmers gained something…I don’t know what.

BB- Gladiator (The return of The Black Diamond)

In our little region of Waxhaw, YHC and several other pax really took to the IronPAX challenge in September. The idea of complaining about every detail of each workout, pushing yourself to just shy of Merlot spillage (or beyond for guys like Deadwood), or not being able to walk or raise your arms for several days following… Just seemed like something we were really gonna miss after it ended. Dasher and I got to talking and figured what the hell…. Let’s see if we can bring back the Black Diamond workout. We want this re-launch to be something the pax can look forward to, not get overwhelmed by. So we decided to change it up a bit- We decided to give it a name- Gladiator- Something that strikes fear into those that think they want to attend, and has good marketing value for those that like to promote. The biggest difference for now is that it will only be held once/mo. The dates will be posted 1 month in advance, however the location will not be revealed until 1 week prior to the workout.

Previous BD rules still apply:. Intend to push yourselves past what you think your body is capable of. This style of workout isn’t intended to pickup the Six, but to push the Six! The workout can be at any site chosen by the Q, either official F3 AO or not, Q’s choice. Q chooses his successor from someone who completes his workout. He then has around 4 weeks to plan a brutal beatdown… And there you have our Gladiator!

Today YHC chose Nesbit Park for the inaugural Gladiator beatdown:

A few announcements as a group…

Welcome FNG- Hammered

YHC had a lot of fun planning this workout, and had so much more fun in store, however I drastically underestimated the amount of time some of these stations would take. Either way- looking forward to the next Gladiator on November 16th with Dasher on Q! Location to be released in a couple of weeks.

The Trifecta of Terrible, a Tour Through 5 Knolls

13 pax (including the Q) for an unlucky roll of the dice at Rock Zero. YHC had pre-slacked and pre-tweeted an 0600 Pyramid of Meat starter, but no one showed up to partake in the swole-ness. Actually, no one really showed up until 0645, when Boererwors decided to he’d had enough rugby at 0400. It should also be noted that he stayed up to watch the World Series the night before, a true American right there. At 0654 Dingo came in with the M4 revved up like he was in high school showing off to his bro’s from down under. Hopper and Skipper showed up shortly after. At 6:58:30 a caravan of uncoordinated pax came in hot to the parking lot including Geraldo, Hops, Bernanke, Lazy Boy, Man Tooth, and possibly Deep Dish. The call is still pending from the judges after the replay.

By 0700 YHC was delivering his thorough and well rehearsed disclaimer when Hops decided to get out of his truck, stretch like a cat waking up from a nap in the sun, and mosey over to see what the fuss was all about. Shortly after Deep Dish pops out of his car, hides his keys in Hop’s truck, and decided to join the party. At this point we were 11 pax, and YHC decided it was time to mosey.

Pax made it about 50 feet when O’Tannenbaum comes screaming in on 2 wheels, almost flattens Skipper, jumps out of his car and sheepishly grins before joining the group. Now we’re 12. Begin the mosey around the parking lot, the loooooong way around. At one point someone in the back called out the tradition of a COP. We’ll get there before 0800 fellas.

The Thang:

After a little mosey through the parking lot, stop at each speed bump and perform merkins and squats, totaling 5 reps. 1 squat and 4 merkins, 2 and 3, 3 and 2, you get the pattern. After the last speed bump head to the grassy knoll for your traditional COP. By now we were all warmed up.

IW x 20. Peter Parker and Parker Peter x 10 each.  5 burpees. Yeah, 5 bupees deal with it.  Shoulder taps x 10.  YHC then took the time to explain that we were going off campus, as YHC did promise some miles. Safety first, so we’ll go down Rea against the flow of traffic on the sidewalk and stick together. At one point on Rea (before 5 Knolls) YHC called a stop and had all pax plank up. As we did so someone called out that Donkey Kong had shown up late, figured out where we were, and had caught up to us. T-claps for that, brother.

Run down Rea, and as we approached 5 Knolls Geraldo prayed “please don;t turn left down 5 Knolls” over and over again. YHC heard his prayers and kept going … and made a left onto Summer Gate Dr. Pax groaned.  Run to the intersection with 5 Knolls and partner up. At this point all were sweating profusely and the pax were regretting their decision to show up. Awesome sauce.

P1 runs to end of the cul-de-sac and back.  P2 does exercise.  Total count:  100 merkins, 100 lunges (each leg). YHC figured this would be a quiet Saturday morning in the Knolls, but apparently the neighborhood decided otherwise. Twice we had large groups of runners stroll past us going down 5 Knolls and of the 4 houses in the cul-de-sac, 3 had cars pull out while we were on the street. I guess next time I should phone ahead to confirm when the neighbors wake up.

Run down 5 Knolls to Whisperwood Pl.  P1 runs to end of the cul-de-sac and back, P2 does exercise.  100 heels to heaven.  100 LBCs.

Run up the terrible hill to MacDara Hill Ct. One pax said something about BRR training being over, brother BRR training is never over.  Pax were feeling smoked after that one. P1 runs to end of the cul-de-sac and back, P2 does exercise.  100 CDDs and 100 squats. There might have been a mutiny at some point, but then the pax realized they would have to mosey back to Calvary anyway so might as well see it through. Hops and Geraldo got a little behind on their squats, something about Hops doing squat for two days the day before. So the pax chipped in at the end to help them get the final 32 squats in. #LeaveNoManBehind

Run back to Calvary, go back to the cars. Circle up for some quick Mary and the introduction of a legit F3 Carpex exercise called the “Have a Nice Day” where the pax just lay on the ground and stare at the sky (yes this is a legit Carpex exercise) and then time was called.

Mole-skinny:

Strong effort out there by the pax today. We logged 4 miles over hilly terrain. Miles promised, miles delivered, and all were better for it. This was an easy workout to plan but a hard one to execute. Thanks to the pax for not calling a total mutiny after we headed off campus. Good mumble-chatter along the way and some encouragement from the Run for Your Life groups that passed us as we were laying in the street trying not to get run over.

On a personal note, it was nice to be out front leading. Often I drift towards the back to watch the 6 on these off-campus trips. According to Strava I ran at an 8:11 pace for the workout, and you know Strava is never wrong.

OK, YHC is 4 Simpler Times Pilsners deep ($4.00 a six pack at Trader Joes) and it’s time for the afternoon nap.

F4

Perfect morning for a Saturday workout, but with a little extra planning, “fiendly” competition, and fun in store. Halloween is always a big time in the home of YHC, so that spills over to one workout/Q this time of year. Split into 2 teams (Ah’s & Boo’s), and had scavenger hunt style bootcamp. Winning team earns this year’s trophy – a can of F3 Side Straddle Hops! (and a bunch of LarBars) Hopefully all had a good time, but also a strong beatdown.

THE THANG: Disclaimer given, as well as general instruction of teams, & format.

Mosey to Blakeney playground for warm-ups (GREAT bouncy surface!). SS Hops (like the trophy can), Low/Slow Squats, Merkins, Mtn Climbs, Peter Parker, 6 inches/plank, “Thrillers” (like the zombie dance), then “Transylvanian Nut Rippers”…YA!! Mosey into Blakeney area lot for Plank Jacks, and 6-inch Plank Jacks.

Now, split into teams for scavenger hunt course…

6 stations along the course, marked by hidden LarBars that have instructions taped to each. General course started near 131 Main, then up hill toward park/playground. Each team did all of the same exercises, but in different sequence -3 rounds at each station 1) parking lot (10 burpees/10 sister Mary Cath x3), to 2) bottom of hill (12 Wide Arm Merkins, 12 Jump Squats, x3), to 3) rock piles (10 Diamond Merk on rock, 10 Squats w/rock x3), to 4) jungle gym (8 pullups, 15 step ups x3), to 5) playground area (20 Heals, 15 Monkey Humps x3), then all the way back (Indian Run) to 6) double stairwells/bars (10 chin ups, lap around stairs x3). Winning team should all plank to wait for finishers.

Mosey all together to fountain for 5 Eddie The Eagles, 20 Dips (x2)

Mosey to base for Mary (protractor), Big Tuna Yoga Stretch, and Al Gore. DONE! COT.

MOLESKIN: There were 2 surprise pre-run’s. 1) Thin Mint ran from his house to the workout (7 miles), showed up looking like a spelunker, but was ready to rock some bootcamp fun – hopefully some solid muscle burn today! The other pre-runner was OchoCinco, who ran faster than anyone in all of SOB this morning from his house to my car – he overslept his alarm, and sprinted out his driveway with no socks/shoes, no contact lenses, keys…etc But we made it. Thanks to Ocho & Gilbert for helping set up the LarBar stations, and being the moles for each team to keep everyone on course. Teddy has been out with back issues, so great to see him grit through, and to hang as well. Mighty Mite has been knocked out sick, but also gritted through, definitely exercising some demons through phlegm & sweat. Swine flu continues to amp up his training & fitness, and will knock out his first Half Marathon in 2 weeks! Chopper will join Swine Flu, will crush the 13.2 as well – Chopper has gotten noticeably faster! #BetterWithAge. Escobar hates to run but crushes the strength stuff (and is a stronger runner than he wants us to believe…dude was recruited as college soccer player!!). Teleporter is back as well, always talking about age (Respect), but seemed fresh! (and congrats on the new work gig – that’s huge, and surely a relief)

What’s the point of planning out a workout like that? How about to feel a little like a kid every once in awhile. Frankly, it was fun to plan & execute. We all have so much responsibility, expectations, worries, stresses…should do, should do, should do. YHC for one had a terrible week of sleep – overall am so blessed, but some stretches of family/work/health/etc/etc are a lot. So much we HAVE to do, and not enough WOULD BE FUN TO DO. So important to have healthy outlets. F3 is definitely that. And while F3 is “fitness”, “fellowship”, and “faith”, today YHC hoped to make it F4…”fun”. (it was for me)

Most of you only know me from the brief time that I have been at F3 (a couple months now). While I wasn’t always the guy who consistently showed up to work out – I was ALWAYS the guy who gave up when I “reached my limit”.

You see, whether you believe it or not, I grew up an athlete. But school, then work, then this, then that…one day you wake up and your comfortable. Pushing 300 pounds…but comfortable. You wake up, you make the easy choices, you go about it cheerfully because you don’t have a bad life, in fact you have a pretty good life, but there’s something missing.

Accountability

Although 80s music makes for a great workout, I remember a picture of me at an 80s party not too long ago and boy did I look different. Around 2 years ago I saw myself going down the easy path and knew I needed to make a very big adjustment. I started getting to the gym. I found some external sources of motivation (if you need motivation and don’t follow David Goggins, Jocko, Cam Hanes, or just anybody who chooses not to be comfortable – its a good start). I began training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, which helped motivate me physically, but it wasn’t what I needed. I was going through the motions and still quitting when it wasn’t easy.

EMBRACE THE SUCK

It ALWAYS sucks. The waking up early. The running. The way too many reps when you were sooo close to sleeping in. The Floater (we all agree on that right?) *insert cliche about ‘if it was easy it wouldn’t be worth it’* but it’s true. My most satisfying days now aren’t even the hardest workout days. It’s the days where I’ve wanted so bad to give in to comfort but chose not to. Fast forward to even just 6 months ago and I was embracing the suck.

Waking up early to commute 2+ hours from NY to NJ just to get to the gym before work. I was down 40 lbs or so, but still only challenged by other common people who thought an easy gym routine was enough to feel good. Then I joined F3.

“Be uncommon amongst uncommon people” – Goggins

My next challenge: There’s a good amount of men in F3 who would be getting out of bed early and embracing the suck – with or without this group. These people are not common and they are the reason I show up and push way past what I used to consider my limits. It’s the reason I am motivated to post especially when others don’t – it’s my chance to gain ground. One day I will catch up with some of these gazelles AND be able to hang at the top of Diesel.

But the best of all is this group pushes people on a regular basis for no reason other than they truly want to see each other get better. It is much easier to get out and work harder with this group behind you. So the next time someone is getting on your case about not posting, just remember it’s because they care and want to see you be the best you.

Embrace it and challenge yourself.

Well if you’ve made it this far, I appreciate the turnout for the VQ and the support from everyone on a daily basis. Looking forward to many more!

Pax: Xmas, Fault Line, McRib, HH, Puddin, Poptart, Hoppa, Manziel, Spack

7 unsuspecting souls, a site FNG and a man bleeding profusely from the weenus, began the morning with a nice base of lunch combo numero tres. What could have gone wrong actually did go wrong. But nobody will know about that.

Was it Fun Friday? Unfortunately no, no it wasn’t. You owe thanks to the Oracle of the BB and also the now renowned, McRib of A51, for firing the Q up yesterday to turn this up a notch from a mileage perspective. I love me some Puddin but man I was hoping he would 86 Kevlar this week only bc I knew he wouldn’t be happy. And who doesn’t want to see a happy Puddin Pop?

I was greeted this morning to a wet and bloody McRib. All the Pyramid plowing with dudes 3 times a week has really taken a toll on his balance during his pre runs. Says he clipped a root and opened the scab on his weenus for the 3rd time in 18 weeks. Shortly thereafter comes in a high socked, hi vis blinking bumpkin from his pre run. No blood there. Evidently fellowship isn’t their pre run thing. At any rate, plans fell apart quickly today as my “Tour of Matthews” quickly seemed too dangerous due to the enormous popularity of the Burn BC race team and the lack of sidewalk visibility. El Valle was a must for the warm up though. Off we went.

BTW, I’m not sure if there are any pax of Mexican descent that can back me up but you know a good Mexican spot when…what? When you actually see Mexican customers. El Valle in Matthews. You are welcome. And oh BTW, when you see a young caucasian kid with broken Spanish working there in about 3 years – tell him you know Spackler. Free cheese dip and BOGOF Tecate’.

So we had to go back to campus because #1 – plans fell apart but more importantly #2 – we had a site FNG (Hopper) and thus, we’re required to show off the popularity of the Kevlar campus.

We did the whole partner up run the parking lot loop down the stairs thing. Lot’s of merkins, PopTarts “Dry Dogs” and a few others. It was excellent. Plan was forming.

We did the medians with exercises, up the hill and back a few times with different stuff. It too, was fantastic. Fault Line wouldn’t shut up about how great it was.

We ran around the church way too many times to get mileage whilst most pax focused on their abs in the quad (?). PopTart needed a break after winning a few laps and was caught doing kegels during a transition. That wasn’t even funny though. What is though is that this is where HH got to fill me in again on some of the Meathead commentary around Headers phone. “It seems that Header finally upgraded his Blackberry 47, to a limited edition Jerry Fallwell skinned Iphone 3 with the Teletubby case.   A bonus is that somehow his 4:30AM texts to his best Bro Chin Music are actually going to Chin’s M.  I can Only Imagine the awkwardness.  #MercyMe. It was good to have them both back, however.  When they didn’t show on Monday, I thought that they had gotten raptured on Sunday evening and we were all living in a Tim LaHaye book.   Turns out they were in a dispute over whose role was supposed to be played by Kirk Cameron, which ended up in some heated texts between Header and Chin’s M.  Nobody got any biscuits.” Utterly amazing. I hope this never happens to me bc I am certainly not Header and my cell phone does some real crazy stuff sometimes. Like “Not For Work” kinda stuff.

Lastly a little CMIYC, of which it seemed nobody wanted to participate. But, again, blame the Oracle of the BB and McRib of A51. We needed the mileage

Speaking of Tiger Rag, master of puppets, he’s back in full force.  I think he is the McRib of A51.  You don’t know how long the limited time offering will last, but it sure is good when it’s here.  Let’s hope it sticks around for a while.  I’m stocking up.  I’m listenin…..

It’s Friday. Y’all know what that means? Yahtzee. Everyone should chime in with what they think Semi Gloss will be doing tonight around 10pm. I will be first in the comments.

No LowT/Low Post Here

Choices,,, we now have a lot of those with regard to workouts here in the Waxhaw cluster. I guess it’s like ice cream flavors as some workouts are plain like vanilla (running), some contain nuts and fruit (Diesel) and some are low calorie (Cerberus). Here at Impromptu we aim to be the freaking blizzard. We stand the test of time, we’re consistent and who doesn’t love a frozen treat?

13 PAX showed up to hit the Circuit course (AMRAP apparently scares people) and test themselves.

DCCS

Quick mosey to the course with some 80’s music – course preview and set the watches.

Awesome Work/Results

Rudy got off to a quick start  and hit the Tysons with a left hook.  We knew that pace would be hard to sustain, but he did it and knocked out a solid run.  Way to go Rudy. PS he didn’t leave the course for a dump; but looks like he was practicing the stance in the picture.

Gerber – If you’re going to Talk the Talk, you better Walk the Walk!!!!  Gerber threw down the hammer last night and didn’t disappoint.  Set the pace and first group in the clubhouse.

Old McDonald shows up to most AMRAPS  circuits gives his all and continues to improve. Always encouraging others around him – a true team player.

Chain Saw – what can we say – just damn impressive. A Double Respect who is also regular of the circuit club.  He’s old school- like a timex – just keeps ticking.  Awesome!!!

Big Ten – I mean where do we start? Or where does he finish?   Well – both at this circuit.  Big Ten started and complete the course for the first time.  I can only think that he enjoyed this style of workout over the others he left in the past. Great results for first time on the course!!!!

Trojan – Making progress…. That’s what I see.. killed it with over 3 laps + Derkins.  Solid effort and turned in an A+ performance.  Very quiet out there – goes about his business like a professional.

Hooch – one of the main architects of this fine circuit.  He owned the course today pushing like an animal after running 8+miles at a secret running club yesterday. (we forgive you).

Sprinkles – A pace setter today – leading the charge.  I will say that I noticed an improvement in the Tyson form(pushup portion).  That can only tell me that Sprinkles is getting stronger and has taken his citation from the form police seriously.  Way to race today!!!

Segway – He’s not scared of a circuit course!!!! He had choices – like workouts without running.  He tamed the inner beast and rose to the challenge!!!!!  Glad to have you at here this morning.

MadDog – another long time Circuit goer. Results show as MD went further than last month and seems to thrive in the bootcamp style workouts that offer a variety of exercises!!!!

Legal Zoom (Andy) – A surprise entry in the circuit race this morning.  He likes to hit the pavement and run at Clyent Dinner so this was like home turf for him.  Nailed it with 4+ laps setting an impressive pace!!!

The Knish – Fast out of the gate – a pace he know would be hard to maintain.  But he dug deep and seemed to kick it into another gear hearing “ballroom blitz” for the second time.  Well done!!!

Keep ‘Em High

17 guys joined me at the 3 headed dog for a high heart rate workout.

When Swimmers extended the invitation I knew I needed to bring a good workout today. Something that would make my boys proud down on the long and bumpy wagon road ride to Waxhaw. Most that know me know my disdain for running and that I often preach that there are other ways to get the heart rate high than running. So with all that in mind…here is what we did.

I knew swimmers would be there, but I wasn’t sure who else from Waxhaw might answer the Bat Call to come join me. I was presently surprised to see Rubbermaid this morning – and to no ones surprise, he also helped with unloading Christ Closet last night (#HIM). Big Tuna and Chipolte also there early to apparently study my solo stretching techniques before getting out of the car to join me. Shop Dawg coming in hot on Jingles time (speaking of, where has Jingles been). Love me some Shop Dawg.

DICCS given at 5:29. It was a short Diccs and had just enough time for an awkward silence before 5:30 hit to which I asked for someones best joke. Either no one in the group is a comedian (which I know isn’t the case as the PDS’s crew was there) or no one had an F3 appropriate joke. Before I could tell one – 5:30 hit…lets roll.

WARM UP

Mosey past the gladiator workout. Point and snicker as you past was a requirement. Circle up near Taziki’s (love that place – crushed ice on point) for deconstructed burpee ladder. Starting with 10 reps and going down to 1. Squats, In/Outs, Merkins, and Bobby Hurleys. Yes, this was a recycle from my recent Q at commitment – but maybe one other guy was there today and that day so its ok.

Short mosey to the top of the parking lot to find roughly 10 parking spots in a row for a pulse merkin/bear craw fun show. Bear craw one spot, 1 pulse merkin, bear crawl to second parking spot for 2 pulse Merkins. Go until you collapse which for most, having just done 55 merkins during deconstructed burpees, appeared to happen around the 7 mark. I called a recover.

Mosey behind Taziki’s for supine ladders. 10 down to 1. In my head I had the above taking us about 30 minutes…..I was wrong. We were only 15 minutes in….Great!!! I get to use the full Winkie today instead of cutting it short.

Mosey past Whole Foods and split into two teams for a “race”. 5 benches line both sides of the street. One at a time do 10 up in overs covering all 4 benches for a total of 40. While you wait, perform a cardio exercise. I called out In/Outs, but switched to jump squats halfway through.

My team lost by a hair – though based on a comment from One Star a have a suspicion that they had an Ace up their sleeve that they may have played. Either way, my team for 5 burpee penalty. To my surprise, the other team joined in – apparently feeling guilty from cheating winning.

Time to play a game me and the wife do in the bedroom (Hey Oh!). One Star without missing a beat asking if it was Just the Tip (Nice). Would you rather: Run the stairs or do a .3 mile lap with pain stations. To my surprise, the answer was stairs. My legs were already feeling it from the earlier work so I was shocked to hear the rest of the pax wanted more leg work….but ok…here we go.

Mosey to parking deck stairs. Wall sit at the top waiting on the 6. Once 6 was there everyone in wall sit with wall hand slaps for a 30 cadence count. I tried giving up the counting around 18, but the pax apparently thought it was a joke….oh no, I’m tired…someone else count. Swimmers finally caught wind and picked up around 22 (thank you).

I was concerned about the effort on the way up the first round so I split the group into two teams again and once again we raced up different stairways with burpees again as the penalty. Again to my surprise the winning team joined in on burpees.

Wall sit/slap for another 30. Rinse and repeat for a last (third) time.

Mosey over to other side of Porterhouse for the .3 mile loops. 5 Big boy sits ups at corner, 10 jump squats at round-a-bout, 15 gas pumpers and second round-a-bout. Repeat as many times as you can in the final 10 minutes. Clydesdales got two rounds. Most Gazelles got in 3. Jailbreak back to the start. Finito

MOLESKIN

Its always fun to get outside of the comfort zone from time to time to meet new people. This was only my third (maybe 4th) time at Cerberus, but it really is a great AO with lots to do as well as a great concept of bringing 3 regions together.

When I do get around other regions I realize the Waxhaw COT is slightly different with us going Hospital Name, Age, F3 Name while other regions go Hospital name, F3 Name, age. It really screws with my repeating the name back since I’m use to repeating the last thing I hear. The name-o-rama video I took today has a lot of me repeating ages. While I fully am aware Waxhaw is likely doing it wrong….I do think the way we do it makes more sense….for what its worth (and thats absolutely nothing).

Good to put a face with a name today with Alf. His wife and daughter have been taking my wife’s classes at the YMCA and I keep hearing about another F3 guy from my wife. I had heard the name Alf inside the F3 community for awhile but our paths hadn’t crossed yet. Hopefully I made my wife proud and you can tell your wife the husband is just as hard??? (probably not).

Big push out of the Clydesdales today. Not to many long runs (until the end) but enough work to keep the heart rates high. Clydesdales got in about 2.2 miles in. Gazelles likely got in 2.5

Ever since we lost Weddington HS as a site (old man fist shake at the AD), I’ve missed doing supines. I was able to find some rails today to take it back to the ole Weddington days of Supine ladders. I forgot how much those hurt and I’m looking forward to a sore upper back tomorrow (in a good way).

Love having some good mumble chatter at workouts and the PDS guys didn’t disappoint. Always enjoy having them at workouts.

Pax: TR, Purell, Hoover, Voodoo, Young Love, Plasma, Stone Cold, Tulip, Bulldog, Soul Glo, Chin Music, Header, Turkey Leg, Smokey, Horsehead

13 unsuspecting souls, plus a man with an unwavering plan, and a token Q with a suspect playlist.  How could this go wrong?

Somehow, I mistook “Bring your speaker, scullion” as “Will you Q Meathead Thursday?” and it went downhill from there.  Nevertheless, we completed Day Whatever of the awful squat pyramid workout.  For those following along, this is a M/Th/Sat strength program that alternates press/squat days.  It was my first day with the double 20kg squats, which was not pretty.  Early finishers did cleans and RDLs, followed by 5 mins of snatches for the group.  The whole thing was sandwiched between two sets of rectum swallowing planks, all set to an inspiring Weird Al Yankovic greatest hits soundtrack.

The Pax are getting this thing together, and I’m seeing a lot of improvement.  The swings are looking a little less Charles Barkley and more Tiger Woods (except on Thanksgiving 2009).  I think only 50% of the group soiled themselves during the squats today, which is a 50% improvement.  I only soiled 50% of myself and it was 50% into the workout, so that figures in somehow.  Basically, dudes be getting swole up in here.  Bulldog has been carrying around dual gallon jugs of BROrotein mix with his sleeves rolled up that he can simultaneously ingest and curl throughout the day.  Smokey had to go up a hat size after only one workout.  Turkey Leg flat busted out of his GI Joe onesie and it was a little uncomfortable at first, but we just went with it.

In order to deal with this massive swolishness, I think we are going to have to step up the eating.  I’ve been watching this British Baking Show on Netflix and they call cookies biscuits over there.  So, if you go home tonight, smack the M on the arse and tell her to “fetch you a batch of biscuits” she’s likely to punch you in the mouth and not bring you Oreos instead of Bojangles from what I understand.   Give it a run and text me.

Speaking of texting and getting punched by someone’s wife, It seems that Header finally upgraded his Blackberry 47, to a limited edition Jerry Fallwell skinned Iphone 3 with the Teletubby case. Turns out they were in a dispute over whos role was supposed to be played by Kirk Cameron, which ended up in some heated texts between Header and Chin’s M.  Nobody got any biscuits.

The Weird Al stuff is fantastic.  It’s weird, that’s a given, but also genius.  I was blasting “White and Nerdy” in the garage while soldering a new power circuit into a 1976  Fender Champ tube amplifier last night and it was both catchy and incriminatory.  The amp needs a properly matched driver, as someone butchered it with an 8 ohm Radio Shack special that is causing the tubes to overwork.  The power switch was shorted to ground and someone had installed a 15A fuse instead of the 1A which was not a good idea.  I’m off on a trail here, but once the glue on the tolex repair sets and the new Warehouse Guitar driver comes in we will have something special that can’t be replicated by solid state electronics.

Speaking of Tiger Rag, master of puppets, he’s back in full force.  I think he is the McRib of A51.  You don’t know how long the limited time offering will last, but it sure is good when it’s here.  Let’s hope it sticks around for a while.  I’m stocking up.

It’s time for some lukewarm Hawaiian Punch in the metal can and a Moon Pie.
