Cerbridge? WTM? Fuse-overs?

Cerbridge? WTM? Fuse-overs?

Too many titles to go with.

Let me start by saying this “new” Pursuit sucks. Especially the Site Q’s.

In my day, there were no Pursuit Q’s, period. You just got told by Tuck what the route was and you go. I got to have the runner’s stench on me, but no one outside of Pursuit would know how not a runner I am. And not in the Paper Jam chrysalis-to-butterfly runner realization crap. The only thing I have in common with runners is the same number of legs.
I could stay in the WAY back, maybe get seen a time or two, meet back at COT with just as much sweat as the others, but do about half the miles. It was working fine.

Now this bastard, Ghosted, becomes a Site Q and goes insane with power. He pretty much bullies me into Q’ing Pursuit literally minutes after being named Site Q 2 weeks ago. He thinks I owe him for Q’ing The Lycan. Technically, I don’t, since I asked him to Q before he became Site Q. #Rulez
But I, too, am a bastard. Like any man trying to get out of doing work, I’m gonna do stuff to piss off gazelles so I won’t be asked to Q again.

Warmup

Run up Millbridge Parkway to the pocket park on the left so everyone can wait on me. As usual, I come out of the gun hot, so Pax wrongly believe I have some extra gear I only use when Q’ing. Not true.

Run to the 2nd entrance of Millbridge to cross into Kensington Place as a group. #WholeNewWorld
KP is a single street neighborhood with nice homes, 1 nice Pax, & 1 hill. It’s also the safest place to run backwards up hill about 3 or 4 times. No cars, no dogs, just #CoronaQuiet and groans of fast people who apparently don’t run backwards?
Top of the cul-de-sac, stretch a little. Dogs, can openers, etc. Most were leery of touching the pavement with their hands.

Run back into Millbridge, first road on the left.
There is a set of 3 blocks that I tried to do a WTF version. Run 1 of the blocks, then 2, then all 3.
Thankful to have Turnbuckle with us, as Chastain’s shin started bothering him & they walked together to the next station.

Run to Kensington Elementary for some Four Corners
(Almost) Always facing Nesbit Park, side shuffle across the short sides of the parking lot; run backwards up one side, front ways down the other.
As we were headed to KES, Robocall was eager to head to the school, but let me know he did NOT want to run backwards in the parking lot. Disappointing gazelles never gets old.

The Thang

Run through the back of KES parking lot to Kensington Rd. We’ve been through 2 entrances of Millbridge; now we’re headed to the 3rd.
Now Brat & Flip Phone finally feel unshackled & take off on this downhill jaunt!
Just inside the 3rd entrance is the Ridgeview paved trail. Run in (MORE downhill) & keep left. What goes down, must come up. And it’s almost all in the last 20 yards of the trail. Stay left to come out the 2nd entrance and make a loop of it. You should have enough time for 3 loops, unless you spend some time in the porta-potty…

Here again, TB saves the day, this time walking with Footlong.
Head back to COT.

Moleskine

I hate being pushed out of my comfort zone.

Great to see Footlong back out after injury. Sad to hear he’s moving to Cary. Fuse was eager to tell him the southern acronym for Cary. He’ll tell you, too, even if you don’t ask.

Mental health is becoming less of a stigma. But the stigma, symptoms, & treatment only improve when leaders in our community (that’s you) are OK with talking about it, and able to better support friends & family around them as they struggle.  It’s a good bet that the brother who has fallen away desperately needs to hear this. You need to reach out to him.

Will anyone do a headstand?

I took the Q at Centurion last minute from Mermaid, who seemed hopeless and desperately needed a Q this am.  With a plan already in mind, I said I would take it.  He said, “I am waiting to see if anyone else is interested.”  As the hours went on, he finally agreed to handover the keys to his pristine site and then continued to answered countless questions on the locations of rocks and such.  I am sure he is now regretting the approval.  However, the wonderful host provided me with a google map (sign of a strong Site Q) of the rock pile.  The thing is, I knew within minutes of accepting, we were doing parking deck and the centurion mile. #nexttime

Fast forward, I arrived early, like a child on Christmas Day.  It was great to meet many Pax that I have not seen lately.  5:29:30, eventually 15 Pax showed up, sloppy disclaimer provided and we were off.

The Warm Up

From the lot we headed straight for the parking deck.  Lots of traffic crossing the road, but eventually we made it up the ramp to the top deck.  Man, there is nothing finer then starting your morning at the top of a parking deck. From there we did the following:

IW x 15

5 each of the following (so we could skip the demo after)

  • Normal, wide, diamond, hand release merkins (supposed to be CCD, but I blanked on the exercise)

SSH x15

Again, 5 each of the following (so we could skip the demo after)

  • Narrow & wide arm merkins, monkey humpers and jump squats

The Thang

Finished with that, I asked if any Pax knew what the Centurion Mile was?  Mild response.  Of those that replied, do you know how fast you ran it? Crickets.  Haver you ever done it backward (in reverse)? Nope.  Ok, shady directions provide and with that, we took off…well I did.

Upon arrival at the normal starting point, there was construction blocking the normal cut through.  Sorry boys, another 1/4 mile to the parking decks.

At the middle, the plan was to hit each stairwell with the following workout.  Since there are only 3 stairs, we had to repeat the middle one.

Stairway 1 and 3

Level 1: merkin x 15 / Level 2: wide arm merkin x 15 / Level 3: diamond merkin x15 / Level 4: Hand release merkin x 15…then 5 burpees (well, these could be done when and where ever)

Stairway 2 and 4

Level 1: Narrow Squat x20 / Level 2: wide squat x 20 / Level 3: monkey humper x20 / Level 4: jump squat x20…then 5 burpees at some point

Once we completed that, we meet at the top for some extended marry.  Headed back down the stairs to the benches

20 dips and 10 step ups per leg…. then repto

More Mary…head back to launch

Introduced a new exercise…more on that…more Mary and DONE

Take Out prayer- Mermaid

Announcements:

  • Base Camp is celebrating Memorial Day at 0700
  • YHC droned on and on about GrowRuck in CLT on 8/6
  • Mermaid was begging for Q’s (more on that)

Not mentioned..Flippers run on Mondays at 5:30/ Calvary and the Functional Strength Challange…sign up and see High Tide

Ye Old Mole Skinny:

  • Thank you for Mermaid and Preschool (not in attendance) for the opportunity to lead when NO one else wanted too
  • Grave Dancer steped up when Mermaid said he was looking for Q’s next week. Seriously, Centurion is an awesome site- love a parking deck, much like a domed stadium…no rain outs. Reach out to Mermaid and find a day
  • I always say, Q a workout you want to do and if you are happy, most of the Pax will be happy too
  • I seriously expected more complaints from the Centurion Mile. Maybe most were not aware of it nor trying to set any segment records (does one exist for the reverse?)
  • Sable and Run Stopper let me win the CM, but smoked me the rest of the workout. I tried to slow Sable down and tell him he forgot Burpees…he told me he didn’t…dam his is fast.  Run Stopper was in the lead but hung with him the rest of the circuit
  • On the CM, I was caught totally off guard by Mermaid and someone else standing there greeting me on our way in. I missed my turn even
  • So, 2 minor problems that took away from a flawless Q: 1) My form was suspect on the tower runs (not sure who said it, but I heard you) …. Mermaid?! 2) Headstands were not a hit. This was a throwaway that totally failed and I almost forgot to mention. My 12 yr old daughter challenged me to a headstand competition.  I kicked her a$$ because I have a strong core.  I tried to get the Pax to do this with a short demo…not even sure 1 tried. Oh well
  • There was mumble chatter today, but I am pretty focused on not screwing up (failed) and thinking about the next thing. If you weren’t right by me, I did not see or hear…comment below.
  • Run Stopper did try to dominate me on the warm up run to the Parking Deck…punk!
  • Sorry Snow Flake, you didn’t even get out of your car and I made and old person joke. I am just jealous of your abilities always strong work…cuz I am always injured
  • I mocked several of you for the way you dress in the gloom. I believe Mildew was the most overdressed….is that how he got his name?

Backblast still required at Impromptu?

For the second Dana (not my hospital name) Q of the week 12 Pax joined me for some Impromptu fun on this chilly spring morning. As 5:28 hit DiCCS were given and at 5:30 we left.

Started off going towards the shed to pick up Bread Bowl and a little warmup. Started off with SSH, Merkins, Calf Stretch, Mountain Climbers. From there we Moseyed up to the bus overhang for a Bear Crawl then Plank as we waited for the 6. Next we hit the lights for alternating Merkins and Squats at each light to the stop sign. I heard the benches calling to us so we headed that way for 4 laps of 20 Dips and Lunge Walks by the football field and repeat till finished.  How can we forget about the steps, Mike Tysons with a lap and Burpee at the bottom, followed by Big Boys, finishing up with Hammers as Schneider wanted to work on the belly. I think there was food spotted at the picnic tables so we headed over in that direction. We completed Dips, Donkey Kicks, and balls to the wall shoulder taps. With 4 minutes to spare we headed back to COT stopping at the lights for alternating Pistol LBC, and Toe Tap.

Everyone pushed hard and we stayed together, good work fellas.

MOLESKIN:

What a wonderful night for Clyent Dinner.  The weather was perfect and the kiddos seemed to have a great time.  I love nights like this because I can get a little goofy with my kids while we workout and let loose.  And the kids get to see us Dads working out and building and shaping positive life habits.

Great to see Dunkin come out for his first Clyent Dinner and he brought out 3 of his 5? Kids.  Welcome Blades (likes roller blading), Kermit (loves reptiles and frogs), and Sprinkles (likes ice cream and had an ice cream shirt on with sprinkles).

Downrange in F3 Annapolis

Downrange at the Forge at Crofton Elementary School.

This was a running specific or run heavy workout that’s 45 min.  We did the loop around the parkway/golf course.  Got in around 5 miles with four stops for Merkins x 25.

Great group of guys lead by Chew Toy.  He moved to the area from Toledo and their strong F3 presence.

Goes to show how one guy can lead the charge to build an area.  They have 7 workouts a weeks now and are growing.  While running with the pax every time we passed a sad clown they would yell (and I mean yell), “Free men’s workout every Tues and Thurs at the Elementary School, 5:30am”.  It would have made Posse and Rubbermaid proud.  The cool thing is that TWO of the seven pax at the workout that day had been recruited by the very same method running by themselves in the morning in that neighborhood.  Don’t be bashful about giving away what we have freely been given.

Moleskin

I am really starting to dig Diesel although I miss the running the different exercises you can do and push yourself is really intriguing to me and challenging. So for all you peeps like Schneider and Ricky Bobby who are scared of Diesel due to the lack of running, I would say come get you some and get out of your comfort zone.

Today was a tough one I must say and the Blockees between stations was ridiculous and someone like Chastain, Centerfold, Premature, Jwow, and or 0-69 should have Q jacked me to stop that madness ( ya’ll are suppose to be leaders in F3) LOL !!. Not only did they fail the Pax by allowing that to happen they even let the Murder Bunnies show up and go unchallenged  at the END OF A WORKOUT!! GEEZ GUYS.. Step up and say something guys.. hahah

Heck of a job by all today and appreciate the opportunity as usual to led this group of men.

Skunk-blast: Give ’em the Boot

13 lucky skunks got “booted” on Tuesday.  They decided to show up to YHC’s Q assuming it would be easy-ish, since YHC can’t walk fast or far and running is completely out.  9 out of 5 pax agree that when mobility challenged, kettlebells provide a solid alternative to fartsacking.  Anyhow, YHC was lucky enough to get tapped to Q last week after showing up to Skunkworks with the boot on and Stone Cold made a reference to Lois’ tabata q (which had a top-notch backblast BTW unlike my usual ramblings).  So feeling slightly intimidated having to follow in Lois’ boot steps, YHC agreed.

According to Baracus the given disclaimer was top notch, but what else can you expect from a chiseled veteran?  Probably an on-time backblast.  It should be noted that said backblast is terribly late and YHC felt the shame (x3) when Voodoo, Mr. Magoo, and Udder posted their respective Wednesday backblasts before YHC even got the F3 South Charlotte Word Press thing-y up and running.  YHC could go on and on but this Miller Lite ain’t gonna drink itself and YHC only has about 5 minutes before the 2.0’s start sneaking behind my desk during my next zoom call.  YHC doesn’t care how many Power Ranger Ninja shows you’ve watched in the last 3 days.  You’re not invisible to the camera, son.

Here’s the Thang:

Warmup:
15 two handed swings
IW x 10
10 two handed swings
Sharon Towers x 10
15 two handed-swings

Swinging Deadlift Lawnmowers:
Two-handed swing x 20, Deadlift x 20, Lawnmowers x 10 per side
Run this a few times, wait for the 6 after each round then give it a 10 count before moving on

Modified Voodoo Complex Pyramid: 1/2/3/4/5/4/3/2/1
Left side then right side, up and down the pyramid
One handed swing, high pull, snatch, clean and press
Wait for the 6 give it a 10 count then do the second round

Some stuff you wouldn’t be caught dead doing at Meathead:
10 Upright Rows
10 bicep curls
10 tricep extensions
10 OH Press

50 swings pax choice (one handed, two handed, all in a row, by sets of 10, etc.)

30 second holds: waiter, rack, suitcase both sides, 30 seconds rest between sets

SkunkStripe:

Solid crew out there.  YHC thinks we need some cross-pollination with the Meathead and Swole crew.  5 years ago kettlebells were a Thursday thing and skunkworks was a running with kettlebells workout.  Oh yeah, and there was something at the SC state line at a literal dump where they supposedly used kettlebells and chased furry animals.

A few notable occurrences:

  • Smokey got curious how heavy YHC’s bell was and switched his 30 pound bell with YHC for a round of that stuff you wouldn’t be caught dead Qing at Meathead.  Think he learned quickly that unlike frisbees not all kettlebells weigh the same.  This kettlebell then made the rounds with some other pax.
  • Horsehead pulls a 62 lb. bell before the 50 swings.  One he just so happens to keep in his tool box in the back of the ‘yota.  Upon inspection it looked like it had a Road Runner emblem on it or some such nonsense.  but it was dark and YHC didn’t have his glasses on.
  • Baracus ended up with YHC’s bell and gave it a shot during the 50 swings.  Reports are he later went home with forearms so large (in his mind) he now sports matching fore-arm anchor tattoos, smokes a pipe, and keeps a can of spinach in the glove box.  Just in case.
  • Lois was boot-less.  Good for him for getting out of that thing.  Continue the speedy recovery, brother.
  • If you did all the exercises, then you exceeded 200 swings.  good work, men.

Other stuff YHC missed?  Sound off in the comments below.

This was a good crew, they didn’t cover any miles but were smoked by the end.  Good to meet Grits.  This was one of his first posts back at F3 in a while.  #kotters

Thanks to Horsehead and Stone cold for the opportunity to lead.
