18 Pax launched at 0700 for yet another #F3DayZero soul crushing. Here’s what we did:
The Thang
Purple Haze Q
Mosey to the rock pile and each man grab two manageable rocks. Onto the field for COP:
Return your rocks and mosey up to school yard by the parking lot. Break in to four groups for some rotating pain stations.
Most did 4 rotations.
Run to the front of the school for some bench work:
Mosey to back of school and hand off the Qship.
Good Hands Q
Indian run around the track. Stop at the basketball court for some exercises:
Mosey to hill for 11s:
Over to the school for people’s chair, with arm’s out, for a long time
Mosey down to the field. Partner up.
Run back to the front of the school. Find some bench with your partner. Partner A does 15 jump ups, Partner B does called exercise. Then flapjack. Called exercises:
Mosey back to the parking lot for Mary.
COT. Great send-off by LD.
Moleskin
As you can see from the list of Pax above, this is a group that probably should not be allowed to attend the same workout. At the very least, they should be separated during COP. What started as whining over using rocks during SSHs turned into a lot of banter. Instructions were clear on how to pick the rocks. However, some let peer pressure get to them and they picked up rocks way too big handle during SSHs.
Seriously though, a very good group of guys out there this morning. Pretty sure they got their money’s worth with a shoulder scorcher and leg burner.
Thanks Good Hands for Qing…and for using those extra minutes I left you with. Probably wouldn’t have had them had everyone done all 4 circuits in the rotation.

Unreal work out there guys! The level of SUCK was at an all time high, and honestly there were times when I almost pukes. Lab Rat even had a moment during the routine when he said we might be working too hard as we crossed the line of Anaerobic converting to Aerobic. See definition below:
Anaerobic exercise is an exercise intense enough to trigger lactic acid formation. It is used by athletes in non-endurance sports to promote strength, speed and power and by body builders to build muscle mass. Muscle energy systems trained using anaerobic exercise develop differently compared to aerobic exercise, leading to greater performance in short duration, high intensity activities, which last from mere seconds to up to about 2 minutes.[1][2] Any activity lasting longer than about two minutes has a large aerobic metabolic component
Welcome to our 2 FNG’s High Tide and BTB. Great to have you guys out at Olympus today! Sorry for the late post, was golfing, then has to do 2.5 hours of yard work, so needless-to-say after this workout and today’s events, ACRT will be in full effect!
SHOT OUT to BTB who after this routine, Rucked 11 Miles at a 14 minute average pace #Ruckingmachine!
As always, It is an honor to workout with this group today. Quite simply one of the most challenging routines I’ve ever done. Thank you for crushing it with us out there today. Sound off below!
Respectfully,

8 Spearhead regulars posted to continue honoring Angler this week. In spite of the warning that we would be doing some 70’s again, Clueless, Angler, and Dora posted at Spearhead for the second time this week showing that they had fully recovered from ThornRuck.

It was great to see everyone out there this am on a beautiful morning that made it seem like spring has returned. As hard as YHC tried, he could not completely silence the mumble chatter this morning. Some did wish at times that Angler was a little younger. Clueless was not clueless this am and called us out for not reaching 70 one time when the mumble chatterers tried to throw us off of the count #neverquit. Liquor Cycle proved again that he is the king of the bear crawl but we found his kryptonite #crabwalkssuck. Angler worked on his Army PT this morning. How many 70 year olds do you know that can knock out 36 selection standard pushups in 2 minutes? #badasswardaddy
10 men gathered in the gloom at Joust eagerly awaiting the Q to show up… well he didnt, so I took the helm.

Alright so I heard TR was on point today and since he decided to hang out with the M this morning and fartsack I took over. However, my coud de tai was not a sure thing, strangebrew said he would fight me for the Q. Heck strangebrew, I hope oneday to get a cage and we can go at it.. until then, you just stick to looking pretty in the morning. Actually Strangebrew smoked me on the second 100 yard sprint, I thought I saw him and Baracus coming up stong and fast out of the corner of my eye. Next time, we can go side to side and see if he can repeat.
Leggo showed some heart today…. heck so did Shock o bottom. Everyone is getting stronger and stronger.

YE OLDE MOLESKINE
A little confusion at the start of the morning as YHC announced that Salt Lick was Q’ing as the pax wondered who was in charge. He had prepared to Compass but not for Kevlar but even after the deer in headlights expression SL cried “follow me!” YHC pulled the reigns in and opted for 10 burpees OYO and off we mosied to the rock pile. LARGE rocks SPEARHEAD style was the instruction and most heeded the command but for 49er. Geraldo went big, Good Hands went bigger, but Brown was the one who extracted a rock that we could have spray painted outside the high school.
Lots of continuous movement today with the extended hill work with the partner on the rocks. The burpee segment was extremely brutal with the pax looking a little queasy after the 5,10, 15 combos. Susudio was bouncing back against his haters from Wednesday putting in a solid performance that made those 20 years or so younger feel like the fools! Taking a break between rounds saw some interesting plank work that was compared with the game Twister at one point. It was mentioned that the game Twister coupled with a tube of Johnsons baby oil makes for a great wedding gift and I’m sure our father of 10, Cottontail, can attest to that!
Rock Webb’s brought out the heckling as the fellas thought we were going up and then down the ladder. Shrapnel was flying from the large rocks hitting the pavement which could well have been merlot spilling of we had come back down. Instead we hit number 10 and were thankfully out of time.
Hats off to Chanel No. 5 for his second post at Covenant Day this week!
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Horseheeead needs one more on his BRR team.
Saturday workouts as scheduled.
The shovel flag was planted and 25 Pax (no ox) showed up to get the weekend started off right. Larger than normal crowd as Twitter traffic (which almost shut the internet down the night before) raised the curiosity level in South Charlotte regarding YHC’s plan. Four men showed up at 5am (so they say) for some KB work (#nowdrespect).
The Thang:
Jog past Hops as he drives in late and head around to Little Ave after short detour to back entrance to the school for team assignments, coupon selection (oak, bricks, and jump rope), and COP.
Teams grab coupons and head over to large parking lot for some relay racing.
Partner 1 grabs bricks and heads down to 2nd light (YHC called the third light but smart whippersnapper counted the one at the starting line so audibled – turned out the whippersnapper is wise for his age), partner two grabs jump rope, and partner 3 grabs the piece of oak and follows after partner 1. Teams carry oak back and forth between lights and do either brick work or jump rope while off Paul Bunyon duty. Brick work was:
Circle up for 10 burpees and a few minutes of Mary – Low flutter, low dolly, high flutter, high dolly, LBC
Line up on line for some running work
COP – Kill a few minutes with exercises I don’t recall including plank
COT
Naked Moleskin:
Twitter stock jumped 10 points this am due to surge in traffic last night related to YHC’s plan. Guesses of pavers and cinder blocks missed the mark by 30-40 pounds #gobigorstayhome. Those oak stumps were brutal to carry. No worries about repeat performance – they will be split and thrown in the fire soon enough.
Purple Haze, Champagne, and others continue to poke the bear with pre-workout KB starting at 5am. My guess is the battle will continiue and YHC will have to get even more creative.

Next Thursday morning will be Land Navigation Training – Part 2 (Practical Application). Location TBD. Bring a compass and a string. We will be practicing what we learned by navigating between points using only a compass heading and distance.
Moleskin
Angler, being a Vietnam Veteran from the United States Army, has a lot of training and practice in the art of land navigation. In GORUCK Challenge 815, Angler was a shadow, and he saw that the team made a lot of avoidable errors in navigation. SPEARHEADs will be prepared from now on.
This training was great, and will be the beginning of a series. After next week, we will try to do some training on map reading. Once we have learned that, we will make plans to go out to an orienteering course and practice what we have learned.
Radar was able to use his field experience from the military to add to Angler’s lesson. It is great to have such good resources at our disposal. I can’t wait for next week to put this all to the test.
Thanks to everyone for coming out. What a great community we have here at SPEARHEAD!
4 pax including YHC, Purple Haze, Splinter and Semi-Gloss took to the streets early for a little pre Rebel Yell warm up run and probably put in ~ 2.5 miles. 8 others denied the ole’ sac and joined us for what turned out to be a pretty tough, not planned, BRR work out. To steal from one of TR’s recent posts, thought you’d like to hear 10 fun facts about ‘Hearts’:
1. In an average lifetime, a human heart pumps enough blood to fill 100 swimming pools.
2. The human heart is not heart-shaped. A cow’s heart is more heart-shaped than a human one.
3. The use of a heart shape in a logo to signify love was popularised by graphic designer Milton Glaser in his 1977 ‘ I Love New York’ posters and T-shirts.
4. According to the two billion-word Oxford English Corpus, the adjective most often used to qualify the noun ‘heart’ is ‘broken’.
5. In an average lifetime, a human heart will beat almost three billion times.
6. I Left My Heart In San Francisco was the 19th most-performed song of the 20th century.
7. The King of Hearts is the only king without a moustache in a standard pack of playing cards.
8. On the day the Netherlands lost to France in a penalty shoot-out at Euro 1996, the death rate from heart attacks and strokes among Dutchmen rose by 50 per cent compared with an average day.
9. Aristotle believed that the heart was the body’s source of heat.
10. Spackler had no idea so many Hearts would be drawn at Rebel Yell on 3/20/14
Enough of that……

Heart – backward run up hill, perform squat, run back down = 1 x whatever number drawn
Diamond – partner merkins
Club – partner jump knee tuck
Spade – burpee
Joker – run across street, down Murderhorn and back

9 of Hearts er…8 of Diamonds
Joker
A of Spades
6 of Hearts
6 of Clubs
Q of Hearts (audible – forward run up hill)

10 of Spades

Great work out there today by everyone and awesome seeing some new faces out there. Keep it coming and tell a friend.
The deck was shuffled and cards weren’t marked as some have accused YHC of doing in the past. I confess, it’s been done before but, today was one those ‘fly by the seat of the pants’ type work outs. No clue if I got the order correct above. Let the cards fall as they may. And they did in an overwhelming way towards Heart. OUCH. If I never see another Heart I will be just fine. Mumble chatter was either pretty low or the feeling of my thigh/head/chest combo about to explode drowned most of it out. YHC does remember a few smart aleck comments from Semi Gloss but what else is new there? I also faintly remember Alf shouting towards my end of the hill and accusing someone of doing the karaoke up the hill instead of backwards run. If your hurtful comments were meant for YHC – that was no karaoke. That was simply a lack of display of coordination #athlete. Pretty sure they were targeted toward Haze. Think we now know why Chipotle has the name. At least you were next to Haze most the morning. Wait, maybe that is why Haze was doing the karaoke? Kind of a head dodge type movement which ultimately effects the lower body movement? And Semi Gloss ending things out with the Protractor??? Who knew. Thank you Haze for taking us out in prayer.

RunStopper showed that a beatdown can be more fun if you use toys (ask him to comment on that). YHC watched on as the mumblechatter quickly dissipated mostly after the first round of Burpees or after each returned from the Jump Up station. The PAX did a bit more running than typical in celebration of SPRING on the horizon. Great effort by all this morning! The Q saw many push through reps and all planked extra long as they rounded up for a brief COT. Thank you for posting at Hydra and for bringing your KBs too! THIS SATURDAY!!!
REGISTRATION IS THIS WEEK
3/17/14 Updates: 1) Those PAX who buy upper level tickets to the Bobcats game will sit with the Mission I’m Possible guys who are coming to the game (and not consume alcohol). Please consider this as part of the F3F event. 2) We also need volunteers to give rides to the morning workout and the game. They can contact Slaughter if able to help.
On the morning of Saturday, March 22, THIS SATURDAY the men of F3 will have an opportunity to work out with a new perspective. Our venue will be Time Warner Arena! Rather than sitting in the seats, watching the court, we will be ON the Bobcats home floor. We will start the workout on the court, and then have the rest of the facility to utilize however we choose. I can see the wheels turning in the minds of our more evil Q’s—hundreds of stairs, the concourse that is about 1/4 mile around, chairs for dips, railings for pull ups and plank walks…could be the kind of workout that makes you say ”Could we PLEASE do some burpees?”
Details
You will need to buy a ticket to the game to participate in the workout. The Bobcats play the Portland Trailblazers that night. Our commitment is to 200 tickets—they have already been bought. We will have 2 sections—one upper level and one lower level. The idea is that if you are bringing the M and 2.0’s, you might want to save some scratch. We have 118 lower level tickets for $48 each and 82 upper level tickets for $37 each. Only F3 men will be able to participate in the workout – that is the Bobcats’ deal, not a F3 rule. You can buy tickets for your immediate family/significant other only initially. We want to make sure we have enough tickets for everybody.
We will have a group photo to commemorate the event and t-shirts as well.
Each ticket will include a $10 donation to F3 Foundation. We are hoping that the Bobcats will be contributing to our cause as well. Workout, watch the game, do good…the kind of stuff F3 is all about.
The workout style will most likely be a traditional boot camp. No whining, no kettle bells, no LSD.
The game will be that night. We will be putting together other activities throughout the day, including a pre-game meal. Folks from out of town are encouraged—we will have a deal on hotel rooms, as well as deals on activities for the 2.0s.
Optional 3rd F opportunities as well, especially for those that spend the night Saturday and want to get their week started on the right foot.
The Spartan Race is also this weekend. You can double down with Bobcats on Saturday morning and Spartan Race on Sunday morning.
Agenda
7am – Check in at Lowes Home Court entrance
7:30am – Painfest Begins – Approximately 75 minute workout utilizing court, stairs, escalators and concourse area
