Recovery? Nah…..

Recovery? Nah…..

Six Pax joined me for Swarm this morning and a few would have been happy just running around for an hour but we needed a little more.  Sidebar, don’t get complacent posting at sites that you know you can handle… Step out of your comfort zone and work harder, grow, get healthier, etc… I’m talking to guys that have been posting for over a year and have not tried any “hard” sites.  New guys look away! lol

DiCCS given, let’s mosey!

From COT we ran around the front of the middle and high school back around to the shed (.90 in case you’re wondering), no idea who has the poop title at this point.

Warmup:

10 SSH IC

Calf Stretch

Runners lunge

10 Plank Jacks IC

10 Merkins Civial Count

The Thang:

Doc Web: 1 Carolina Dry Dock/4 Bear Crawls 2/8, 3/12…10/40

I honestly forgot how brutal this is, I didn’t think I would make it until I looked over and Schnitzel was crushing it… Lets Mosey! We ran back past COT as a Pax was getting out of his car (5:31) and I yelled at him to come on.  Unbeknownst to the Pax he just joined Swarm and not Impromptu…HAHA BUT…Foundation being the kind-hearted Pax that he is directed the latecomer to the appropriate group.  I almost had him!! We moseyed all the way back to the front of the high school.

No clue what to call this… Merkin/Hammer Web. 1 Merkin/4 American Hammers.

I didn’t look around too much during this but I’m sure the form police alarms may have sounded.  I was however staring Smithers in the eye on each round of the merkins, he (we) killed it. Nice work! Let’s mosey! It was during this exercise that the Impromptu boys ran up on us and Transporter thought it would be cool to run right through our group as we lay defenseless on the ground. Transporter..What in the H**% are you doing at Impromptu?  Are you getting soft? SMH…

We moseyed back around to the shed for one more web…

Lt. Dan 1 squat/4 back lunges

Again, I forgot how awful this was as well. We did a few of the later rounds with Monkey Humpers which seemed to help ease the burn, but the last set with them was absolutely miserable! Let’s mosey, well we walked to the first light pole to gain the feeling back in our legs…

Back around through COT, hold at the stop sign.

200/400 repeats. I really like these. I stressed to the pax that the goal is to hold the same pace on each run, they crushed it! I think we ran about 4-200’s and 4-400’s. Blue Screen aired it all out on the final 200, the RR is pretty quick! Deflated with his bionic knee is back like never before…the dude is fast!!!

We held up in the curve near the senior lot and then moseyed back around towards the stadium and passed by the Impromptu pax once again as they were dropping off rocks. We continued down the sidewalk towards the shed and I see Transporter gaining on us. I told Suger Daddy that we couldn’t let him pass us so we picked up the pace. Schnitzel (this guy is a machine) was already pushing the pace and ahead of us as we run up the Yellow Brick Rd. We caught Schinzel and then Transporter passed us in almost a dead sprint, meanwhile, I’m dry heaving… Re-read the second sentence of this BB. We arrived at COT ahead of Impromptu with about 30 secs to spare. 4.5 miles recorded!

The Moleskine:

While I give Transporter a hard time in this BB I know he can hang with the best of us and best most of us. The second sentence was for the guys that don’t leave it all in the gloom. Yes, pax come to F3 for different reasons, its free, you can choose to participate in 2nd and 3rd F but this is the FIRST F..not the 2nd or 3rd.  Work hard, make gains, and encourage. I promise you other Pax will respect you more if you try harder. If you don’t care about getting in better shape then why do you wake up at 4:30-4:45 to post with a bunch of sweaty dudes? You can talk and share recipes at the 2nd F.

When Turnbuckle started with F3 a few years ago the man could barely walk and now he’s down..what 80-90LBS? Similar stories with Zinfandel, Transporter, myself, Smithers, Foundation, and many others. They work hard, they wanted to change physically. If you change physically, you will change mentally hopefully for the better and the M will definitely like it!  I’m not saying push so hard you dry heave like myself or Ice 9 but try hard(er).

I can honestly say that the Swarm crew left it all in the gloom today, they pushed hard and definitely got better because of it. Thanks for following me today, well done!

See Impromptu BB for announcements

We started out the morning with 5 PAX ready for the 5:32 time.  Posse used every bit of the extra 2 minutes to roll in.  I took a little abuse

The Moleskin

Great job today gentlemen.  Posse made sure to “try” to give me a hard time here and there, but being Italian and from NJ you tend to have a teflon “John” affect, so you are not bothered.  Hot Yoga has some back issues, as the rock he grabbed may have been from a bit smaller than his usual size.  Das Boot stayed steady as usual doing well.  Noonan should be awarded for the number of solo Last Call.

Have a great day

What’s for Dinner we asked the Pax’s

With 30 seconds to the start of dinner.  We started preparing dinner.  With the Pax and the 2.0 saying feed me.  We feed them a 5 course meal of 10,560 feet of running, and 415 of reps.

Warm Up

  • A mosey to the front of the middle school
  • 15 Side Straddle Hopes
  • Calf Stretches
  • 15 Imperial Walkers

The Thang

A Mosey to the basketball quarts for some relay fun.   Partner up in sets of three.  We worked on our foot work.  Up and down the quart in sets of threes.  Forward running, backward running, and skipping

Now a quick mosey to the shed for a ladder combination of Squats, Air Lifts, and Pushups, to climb the ladder. Each exercise had to be done in 5-10-15-20.  It sure made the PAX learn how to count… “On my Down, On my Up”

Now a mosey to the rock pile to work on our arms.

  • Curls Low – 5-10-15
  • Curls – Mid – 5-10-15
  • Full Curls – 5-10-15
  • Shoulder Presses 20
  • Bench Presses 20

Mosey to the high school bench for some dips

  • 20 Knee Bent Dips (90 degrees)
  • 20 Straight Knee Drips

Now that our arms, legs are feeling it, it was time to mosey to some shade, for some of Scuba’s yoga stretching.  On the ground for some superman workouts, pushups, and arms motion stretches.  It brought a new meaning to counting.

Then a quick mosey to the front of the high school to run 3 laps around the circle while your partner was doing.

  • LBC
  • Flutters
  • American Hammers

We ran back to the middle school for some stretching, and step ups, then a quick mosey back to the start.

Dinner was served.

A Little Road Work…

10 HIM showed up outside the Regal Cinema, ready to put in their work for the morning. With all the construction going on around Stonecrest these days, I thought I’d keep it simple and lead a workout that highlighted the areas of Stonecrest that still need work, the parking lot. Lights went out at 5:30 sharp. Perfect disclaimer provided (FNG was in the numbers) and off we went.

The Thang

Quick lap around the Regal Cinema (Out to Elm Ln. and around the theater) to get the legs loosened up.

Warm-Up back in front of Regal.

  • SSH x 15
  • IW x 15
  • Peter Parkers x 10
  • Merkins x 10
  • LSS x 15

Fully loosened up and stretched we headed over to the entrance to the long main straight that runs in front of the shopping center.

Parking Lot Tour

  • From the first row of parking spaces near the ATM all the way to the last row past Target, run the length of the row of parking spaces and complete called exercise. Next row, repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Continue all the way down the parking lot.
  • At the end of each row complete an increasing (10, 15, 20, 25) then decreasing (25, 20, 15, 10) number of the following:
    • Upper Body (Merkins, CDDs, Offset Merkins, Werkins, +others)
    • Abs (LBCs, Heels to Heaven, Big Boy Sit Ups, +others)
    • Lower Body (Squats, Jump Squats, Lunges, Jump Lunges, +others)
  • Circled up for some Mary throughout as we waited for the 6 to get in.

Mosey to the back of Target

  • Break up into groups of 2
  • Bataan Death March behind the stores
  • PAX in 6 does 3 Burpees, runs to the front of the team line. Repeato until we get back to Regal.

AYG down the straight in front of Regal to push out the last drop of effort.

Mary until time is called

Called time and COT.

Moleskin

  • As mentioned in the title, with all the work they’re doing @ Stonecrest, they need to spend a little time on the parking lot. Some of those ab exercises were like rubbing your back on a cheese grater. Just a note for future Qs.
  • Not a whole lot of mumble chatter going on this morning. Could be the post ‘Cinco de Mayo’ effect. Even though the discussions were minimal everyone put in the work.
  • It was awesome to see the group of vets rally around the FNG this morning. I think it’s easy to forget our first morning experience in the gloom and simply push, push, push. Most of the guys who I know can go non-stop held back with the FNG for most of the workout. Great way to show that F3 isn’t just about the workout, it’s also about the fellowship we build as we connect with other men.

Announcements

  • Welcome FNG Frank “Camila”. Rousey brought Frank out this morning and after digging into his background (e.g., Cuban, Loves Cigars and Whiskey, In the Real Estate business, etc., etc.) someone brought up the song ‘Havana’ sung by Camila Cabello. So, Camila it is.
  • Otherwise, all quiet on the announcement front. Everyone still in post-CSAUP recovery mode.

Hills, Hills, and more Hills

12 came out to Pursuit to see if a Clydesdale would spill Merlot at his own Q.  Sorry to disappoint.  The goal today was to do the exact opposite of the handful of Pursuit Q’s I’ve been to (sorry for those that Q’ed those workouts).  In the past there is a route, and they go running that route until its time to come back to COT.  The gazelles take off and the six is often left behind to fend for themselves unless a random gazelle or site Q is gracious enough to turn back for them.   Today I wanted to keep the pax tight and together.  More sprints and less long distance.  Ok, enough talk, lets go.

WARM UP

YoYo mosey past the bridge to the first street on the right.  When you get there turn back around to the six and go back to the road.  Repeat until the 6 arrives.  Quick Jimmy Dugan and then yoyo mosey to the end of the road towards the school.  Another quick mosey and we are all at the front of the Elementary school.

THE THANG

4 corner runs.  50% for one straight away, 80% for another, all you got on the third, and a recover walk or jog for the last one.  We did 4 rounds (quarters).  I asked the pax if they needed overtime.  Apparently Smithers did so we did a 5th.  Double OT?  The pax apparently are catching on as no one asked for more.

Mosey back to the school entrance road and regroup there.  There is a fairly steep hill leading from there up to the main road.  OYO 3 Hill sprints.  All  you got to the top with a recover mosey (or walk) back to the bottom.

The long distance runners were getting antsy.  I could fill a mutiny in the air.  I better let these skinny F$(&$’s stretch their legs out.  Long (for me) Mosey back to Millbridge pool.  There was some confusion about finding Brat who slipped/stumbled into a port a poty but I reassured the group that he knew where we were going.  Found Brat before we arrived to the pool and continued our mosey to the large boulders flanking the nesbit trail.

80% mosey up the hill to the round a bout.  Go back for the 6 (catching a theme?).

Quick calf stretch.  Somewhat of a race to the next round about and back to the current round about.  I say somewhat of a race as once the leader reached the end, turned around, and met back up with pax, those pax would turn back.  So in theory only 1 guy make sit to the round about.  Confusing?  Yeah, but the pax made it work.

Regroup at the first round about and decided to repeat that with one exception, sprint up three trees and recovery walk/jog one tree.  Collected everyone at the second round about and then had another race back to the first…all you got without having to stop to walk.

Regrouped again before a final yoyo run down to the boulders and back for the 6.

Short mosey towards the pool stopping at the circular road across the street.  Sprint the straight away on the main road and recovery jog the circle.  4 minutes left, see if you can get in three sprints.  I think a handful of pax were able to get the third in although a couple that I thought could make 3 peeled off early.

Back at COT right at 6:15.

MOLESKIN

  • Thanks to Ghosted for allowing me to lead.  I never expected to be asked to lead a running workout but I appreciate the confidence.  Perhaps allowing some non traditional runners lead these workouts would draw some other non traditional runners out to them?  Just a thought.
  • Was hoping for a few more Clydesdales to join me today but regardless we had a great group.
  • Smithers killing the sprints all day, but let it be known I did beat him on the final downhill sprint (I may have started early).
  • Posse out scoping territory for next weeks Pursuit Q.
  • TB and Red Light out getting their Ruck on (everybody get your ruck on, everybody get your mother loving ruck on, what!).
  • Goodfella in his usual good spirit as always.
  • Flip Phone is a name, F3 Name, Age kinda guy.  I love reciting their age back to them when they do that.  I always repeat 49 to Ice in COT.  Yes, I’m a dick and I do realize it and realizing it is half the battle.
  • Don’t know some of the other guys as well but they all worked hard.

A Rocky Start to Thursday

15 PAX gathered in the gloom for a post Cinco De Mayo celebration in downtown Waxhaw. After a proper disclaimer we moseyed to the original launch point of the Floater for:

COP: SSH x 10, 5 merkins OYO, LSS x 10, 5 merkins OYO, 15 LBCs

THE THANG:  Mosey to the Waxhaw bridge for a round of 7s. Start on one side of the bridge do 1 rep of the called exercise, run over the bridge and perform 6 reps of the called exercise, then 2x and 5x, etc. Called exercise: squats.

The original plan called for another round of 7s but an attempted Q jack by Chastain and Zinfandel required an audible.  Partner up, with one partner running over the bridge, one running in the opposite direction, around the train tracks, when the partners met up, 10 burpees. Continue running in the same direction, meet up again and to do 10 burpees. We did this for 3 rounds.

Then mosey to the front of Blue Door Deli for a Merkin Train. Lining up the PAX facing the elevated sidewalk, do a merkin then shift your hands to the left and do another merkin and continue in that pattern until we reached the end of the sidewalk.

Then mosey back to the water tower for 3 rounds of The Beast. Pick 3 spots in the gravel parking lot and at each spot perform 6 reps of the called exercise going and returning (6-6-6). This Beast was abs only: toe tap crunch, flutter, and heels to heaven.

Remain in the gravel parking lot for field of plank. Take a few steps and perform the  called plank until we make it to the end of the lot. Regular, right arm high, left arm high, elbow, 6-inches, and Makhtar N’Diaye.

Mosey back to launch for circle of Mary.

MOLESKIN

This was my recovery week after running WTF, I couldn’t think of a better way to recover than to Q a boot camp.  I was fortunate that Easy Button could provide an opportunity to lead and help me avoid a fartsack.  The weather was perfect and there are alot of gravel parking lots in downtown Waxhaw to enjoy. Good to see Beetle and Loafer stepping up to Q in the future and thank you Baio for taking us out.

As always, I am always grateful and shocked to be allowed to lead a great group of men. SYITG

Moleskine:

  • We had a solid crew of 10 vets out at Meathead this morning. Thanks to the pax for posting and for following my lead on the workout.
  • My eclectic playlist was a big hit this morning and led to some interesting conversations about musical tastes that almost led to a brawl between the hair band rockers (mostly Frehley’s and Ickey) vs. the grunge fans (me and Mighty Mite). I think we established a hierarchy of bands with Warrant and Poison at the bottom and Foo Fighters, Guns N Roses, and AC/DC at the top. Bullwinkle enjoyed his role as instigator.
  • Aside from his musical tastes and concert experiences that are a little too graphic to share on a family website, Frehley’s was also kind enough to share some pretty powerful flatulence this morning. I was downwind for the first blast and I swear I blacked out for a bit. During Mary, he took the “hollow body” command a little too literally and hollowed himself out further. Thankfully, I missed that batch, but I think Ickey had to bathe with bleach when he got home.
  • It’s late and I’ve got to post in the morning, so I’m going to log off now. Please sound off below with any more commentary.

It’s Just a Little Rain

Super bad storms were blowing up the area all day so no-one really knew if this workout was gonna run today. YHC showed up and stopped the rain. Don’t worry, we found all the puddles and mud. I wasn’t going to let the rain go to waste.

Cinco De Mayo, Cincuenta Y Cinco!

Hey, its just a headline, leave me alone!

Started off with an alarm this morning that woke me from a deep sleep. The M thought it was Thursday and was asking where YHC was going saying, “where you going, you have Hockey tonight?” i replied, nope, its wednesday.. Guess its already been that type of week. As I waddled out of the room to get ready, every bone was cracking and muscles sore from the days prior.. Man, I just want to go back to bed, but the pax were counting on me. so I muster up the strength an head out to MRHS half awake and yawning. Finally nice weather, so the Tank came out… No sun just yet, but OneStar noticed the Guns were out in preperation.. DICCS applied, Lets mosey.

Warmup: 1st mosey to the HS lot with some Good ole Pickle and Goo stretching.. Calf stretch/Run stretch/glute stretch, cross armed stretch and behind back arm stretch..

2nd mosey to other side of lot for regular warmup. 15IC IW, SSH, Potato Pickers.

THANG: Remembering this was Cico De Mayo last night, had to switch up the counts and exercises to accommodate…. So, mosey over to small track and pick a partner and Rock. Each pax does 55 of each of the 5 exercise while the other partner runs with 5 burpees at the far corner:

  • Curls
  • Overhead press
  • Chest Press
  • Tri ext
  • 55 total row->thruster

this got some groans as many of us picked a bit larger of a rock than expected.

Mary with some Hernias for the 6.

Head to the MS cafeteria for some Circuit work: Bear Crawl up the path first.

At the Cafeteria 55 of each exercise split up in segments

  • Dips

Shhhh!!! Kids Are Sleeping!

Gear is back at Chiseled!  What better way to celebrate than doing a mini CSAUP with gear.  The plan was in my head for quite some time, but I was waiting for the ability to share gear again before busting it out.  Who knew I’d have to wait almost a year.  Like with most of my planning, there was room for improvement.  Arrived early to start setting up.  At around 5:05 I saw the beautiful site of headlights entering the parking lot.  Sweet, another sucker pax that can help me get gear set up (Thank you Chastain).   DiCCS given with extra emphasis on cars coming in and form on the tire flips (I guess we will have to add noise level at Chiseled from now on???).

WARM UP

YoYo run around the sign and back to pick up the six.  Apparently several guys including our Nantan don’t follow directions well.  Got the guys grouped back up near the entrance for walking toy soldiers.  Sprint up one light and jog back for the 6.  Skips with a knee grab at the top for an extra stretch.   Mosey to near the rock pile.  Gave instructions that we would draft teams after the run around Mt. Chiseled and back to COT.  Line up upon arrival to COT and I will draft.   I start counting off and some (Schneider) didn’t quite get the counting.  1, 2, 2, 1, 1, 2, 2….   Its called a snake draft for those that have never played fantasy football.  Several sandbag runners may have made the teams a little uneven, but its what we had so lets go with it.

THE THANG

Both teams had equal amounts of gear and equal pax on the team.  They were to start moving that gear from one side of the parking to to the other side (long ways).  If you didn’t have gear (two pax), you were a runner to the curb and back.  The catch was that you couldn’t pass the hair burner (fail # 1).   Gear was:

  • Tire Flip (Fail #2)
  • Hair Burner
  • Curls with 27lb bar
  • Hammer Curl with 25 lb dumbbell
  • Tricep extension with 30 lb dumbbell
  • Front and lateral raises with 10 lb dumbbells
  • 20 lb slam ball
  • Farmer carry with two cinder blocks

So right off the bat team 1 had an advantage in that the parking lot curves and they were on the inside.  I knew that so the plan was to switch sides at the other end.  But team 1 (who must have been made up of the same guys that didn’t listen in warm ups) decided to go down and back.  I attempted to correct them 3 times before they finally understood.  Once we met at the curb (with Schneider claiming victory even though team 1 had already hit the curb) we switched sides.

Being on the inside lane proved to be a huge advantage as team 2 was in the lead until…….CAR!!!   (Kinda early for Bible study to arrive but ok…)   the car stops near Shop Dawg (huh, I guess they know each other from church?).  All of a sudden Shop sprints over to me as I’m flipping the tire “Stop flipping the tire!  We woke this guy up and his kids and he’s pissed!”.   Really?  Tire flips in the middle of a wooded campus woke this guy up?  I mean, I guess its true, who gets out of bed on the own and drives over unless they really aren’t happy.  Audibled to roll the tires back in while everyone else finished the CSAUP.   Team 2 by a mile here.

Needed to regroup after the no tire change up and the fact that the down and back went way quicker than I expected.  Lap around Mt. Chiseled and back to the gear.

Team back up for the gear relay again, except this time no tire flips and we are only going half way due to bible study traffic likely picking up.  Bottle Cap questions if the hair burners might be too loud.  Power Rangers Reaction GIF Lets keep it.

I honestly can’t remember which team won here, but if you really want to know, ask Chastain and Schneider together at the same time.

That round was way too quick and didn’t feel very CSAUPish.  What can I do to make it harder. blake shelton shrug GIF by The Voice.   Oh I know….1000 merkins split per team…..Picture of my idea coming to shape and the pax’s reaction….I Got It Party GIF by Red Fang

Finished with 2 minutes left…mosey to COT.  Tried to sneak in a jack webb of Turkish get ups and dips but only got to 3 and 12 before time was called.

  • So many lessons learned on this one.
    • Tires are loud when flipped and they land perfectly flat.  Chiseled site Q’s to regroup and test methods of how to tire flip without being so loud.  Options include spinning the tire on the flip, flipping it in grass, and getting the neighbor’s kids headphones.
  • Chastain ruined the CSAUP by hairburning so fast.  His opening hairburner was about 80 yards in 1 minute.  I was counting on tire flipping and hair burners to be the slowest….boy was I wrong.
  • Ask Mad Dog to demonstrate a hairburner for you next time.  His demonstration took up about 50 yards.  He was severely gassed after it.  I was ready to pounce on top of him and start singing staying alive but he gave me a look like “I’m alright” since he couldn’t talk through his heavy breathing.
  • Shriver developed a secret weapon for us and started tossing the weighted ball.  It quickly became the ball toss on our team.   Not sure team 1 figured that out.
  • Popeye is a monster at tire flipping and weighted ball throwing.  Hairburning…not so much.
  • Rudy pushed through a bad back to flip some tires (to my repeated concern and attempted take over from him).
  • Good to see Spitz back out regularly.  I needed another Carolina guy to get on as I think Paper Jam and Gerber were tired of catching the full brunt of my Carolina hate.
  • Did another double take on Draper and Schneider’s resemblance.
  • It was good to see Drive By at a morning workout for once.   We got on a regular rotation when my daughter got interested in the afternoon workouts but with softball and tee ball season in full swing, I hadn’t been to an afternoon workout in awhile.
  • The rest of the guys were on the other team so I didn’t getting any good nuggets on them.
