Moleskin:

 –          Today was a brutal taste of what to expect from a Welcome Party at a GORUCK Challenge.  With our next event only 3-4 weeks out, it is my mission to get these guys mentally and physically prepared for the 12-14 hours of hell they we about to go through.  T-Claps to the entire group as even though only a handful of us are doing the challenge, you hung in there and embraced the Suck even though you are not preparing for a challenge…that is the TRUE  DEFINITION OF TEAMWORK…Just wished it didn’t rain as the M is going to be upset when she finds all the grass everywhere.

 –          Extra Strong Effort by our FNG, Clueless.  This guy found out about SPEARHEAD through Google while he was researching GORUCK (there is something really cool to be said about the fact that we are being picked up on the internet when looking for GORUCK…PROPS BTB!!!….but that will have to be on another post)…so Back to Clueless…

 –          On the Web he found our site, saw the Event we had planned last week, which was a F2 Ruck though downtown Charlotte ending in NoDa.  At our first stop, he ran over and greeted the team like he had known us his whole life.  I remember thinking to myself, who is this guy, where did he come from and did I miss something???  Come to find out he was interested in what SPEARHEAD was doing and wanted to check us out.  After the event we told him about F3 and SPEARHEAD and we  gave him the name “Clueless” since he had no Clue what SPEARHEAD was all about and came out anyway.

 –          He was Head-locked by BTB and showed up for his first F3 workout today at SPEARHEAD….needless-to-say, this routine was not for the faint of heart and extremely challenging.  It isn’t something we do all the time out there, but this guy hung in and crushed it like a champion.  OUTSTANDING work Clueless and hope to see you at more posts!!!!

 –          On a side note, there was the most hilarious comment made today by our own War Daddy, Angler.  Someone please help him in finding the most important “Spare Part” of all.

 –          Finally, back to GORUCK stuff.  The Cadres are going to try and break your will.  Just like today doing Belly, Back, Feet on hard cement, or carrying a ridiculous telephone pole around a track, or whether your clothes and body would get wet, cold and grassy,  You can’t be thinking about stuff like being wet or uncomfortable…you can’t think about how tired you are or how much you want to quit…you can’t think of pain you are in…all you need to do is forget all that stuff for it is only temporary.  Embrace the Suck and look to your team for help and support.  It’s not about you at all, it’s not about how you feel or about how much you are doing…It’s all about the team.  When that finally clicks, this training, preparation and all that we are doing will begin making perfect sense.

As always it is an honor to lead you today.

Respectfully,

The Hoff

COT

MOLESKIN

Early humor this morning as Cottonmouth pulled up and dropped a massive 5lb kettlebell in the middle of the pax! It may have been a good idea to pick the little fella for this mornings workout…
During the pre workout banter the cars just kept coming and YHC was concerned about the lack of space on the hill for the combine type set up. Some old chestnuts reappeared in the form of Runstopper and 49er which was great to see. The theme stemmed from site Q Harley stating that the workout needed to be an “11” out of 10 on the toughnesss scale and I’m hoping it did not dissapoint.
After a somewhat extended warm up it was time to hit the hills. We started way down low and had to manoevre over three elevations to reach the summit. Fletch and Busch were leading the way on the sprints with Good Hands and Bugeater hanging close. After each sprint back down the pax had to rack the bell to move on. Nightcourt with his first post of 2014 (?) tended to be the one we were waiting on as he staggered up from his knees!
The plan was to do eleven exercises all military count but the hands of time saved us all.
Great job by all this morning and a warm welcome to FNG Joel H (Hamish) who was EH’d by Country Livin.
Pleasure leading you this morning lads and comment away on anything that was missed.

  • Heard lots of groans from folks about the pull-ups.  Too bad for this crowd, YHC was out this Saturday and did not partake in the Murph.
  • Lobster Roll got the lucky spot to run twice in the relay, and still managed to smoke the other two heats.  Nice running!
  • Still a bit slippery out there… YHC slid in the gloom and jammed his foot into something very hard.  Looks like a couple broken toes turning purple… may be out for a short while.

– FNG Pebbles (John) made a strong showing this morning showing up to a gear workout on his first post.  Not sure if he will be thanking or hating his friends Loogie, Mic Check, and The Worm for bringing him out for the beat down.  He did great though and we look forward to seeing him again in the gloom.

– It was great to be back in the gloom today with my brothers.  Just one week away and YHC remembered what it was like when F3 was not in the weekly routine.  I appreciate the fitness, fellowship, and faith you men provide on a daily basis and thank you for the opportunity to lead.  Aye!

– Please remember Haggis who is out of the workout rotation this week while he is recuperating.  We will welcome him back next week.  Chipotle has the Q at Bagpipes tomorrow.  Show up and get worked.

Climbing Down #Old100

Having designed a Panther victory workout, I was forced to return to an old standby for our workout. The beautiful thing was that it forced us to keep count in our heads, thereby reducing the mumblechatter and bellyaching. So I took my frustration out on the PAX.

When I grabbed my shoes this AM, I discovered they were still soaking wet from the awesome Saturday Murph workout. So I had to go dig up my mud run shoes.

The last arrival redirected our initial launch out onto the fields of Carmel Park. From the mumble sounds like Hamlet found some residual puddles to do merkins in.

Rerunning this workout south of the border, the PAX of Area51 were more focused on the counting then the hecklers at Bandit.

I was impressed by the PAX who pushed themselves through this beatdown style of workout. The laps and high reps begin to add up, but everyone pushed hard.

In fact, I O2-deprived myself that I during COT when a guy introduced himself as “New Guy” I assumed that was his nickname and was about to close up shop. Thanks to Hops for the arbitrary 80s TV show recall when #NewGuy announced his name to be Blair (well we know who Hops had a crush on from FoL).

And don’t worry Skywalker, I won’t call you out for fartsacking this workout.

Singing in the Rain (Posted on behalf of Floor Slapper)

(Posted on behalf of Floor Slapper)

10 dedicated gentlemen braved the rain and completed the Murph workout.  Actually, the rain held off until Tool Time’s late arrival which brought the heavy rain and wind.  Here’s what transpired:

Jog over to teacher’s parking lot for COP:

  • SSH x 20 (IC)
  • IW x 20 (IC)
  • Squats x 20 (IC)
  • Merkins x 15 (IC)

Enough of a warm-up, let’s get to the main event:

  • 1 mile run (run to the fire station and through the back entrance of neighborhood & then back to playground)

10 sets of 10/20/30 reps of the following:

  • 100 pull-ups
  • 200 merkins
  • 300 squats

Finish it up with:

  • 1 mile run (same route)
  • With the premiere of “Lone Survivor” on everyone’s mind, PAX that returned early headed back out to regroup with those still out on the route to finish up the run #NOMANLEFTBEHIND #BROTHERHOOD

Still have 20 minutes left so hit the parking lot for 6 MOM:

  • LBCs x 20 (IC)
  • Dolly x 20 (IC)
  • Mason Twist x 20 (IC)
  • Freddie Mercury x 20 (IC)

Head over to front of school for PC:

  • PC x 60 sec (w/ Air Presses, drop ’em 3 inches, etc)
  • Decline Merkins x 20 (OYO)
  • PC x 60 sec

Mosey over to track for 4 corners:

  • 1 lap around track with 10 Frog Kicks, 10 Jump Squats, 10 Merkins, & 10 Burpees at the corners

3/4 sprint back to the launch point

Finish with lunge walk musical chairs until everyone found a spot in COT

Moleskin:

  • This morning’s workout was definitely conducted in the GLOOM.  Not a dry spot to be found after the past 24 hours of heavy rainfall & PAX quickly found themselves in deluge 5-10 minutes into the workout as the skies let loose another round of showers.   Fortunately, lightening stayed off in the distance.
  • Fraiser, Lobster Roll & Alf led the PAX on the 1 mile bookend runs for the Murph.
  • Strong effort by all the PAX on the circuit work to quickly complete the 100/200/300 reps at the playground.
  • Floor Slapper called for one more exercise, Squats, as he headed over to his car to grab his phone to record who was in attendance.  PAX must have thought this one was optional as all declined the invitation.
  • Several of the PAX enjoyed some 2nd F at Dunkin Donuts afterwards.

Announcements:

  • Let Baracus know your interest level (None, Maybe, Looking Forward to It) in participating in Blue Ridge Relay next September.
  • Check weekly e-mail and website for additional news.

Moleskin:
It was such a nice morning, then High Tide pulled up and said, “Did you look at the radar? We’re going to get soaked.” The wind picked up right at 7:00, the temp dropped 5 degrees and off we went into the downpour. Great work by the Ascent PAX working through the rain. It really never let up, just slowed down a little so it seemed that much worse when it picked back up. The 2.0s who joined up bailed after the Murph part of the workout and spent the rest of the workout in the car. Hoodies may look cool, but they aren’t so much fun when completely waterlogged.
The downside to doing half of the Murph is that we had 30 mins left in the workout. The guys slogged through some active recovery work on the benches and walls, and then got to it on the sprints behind the school. Strange Brew was killing it.
Great sendoff by Blitzen. We’re blessed to have the lives we do.

Celebrating LT Michael P. Murphy

Unknown-3

10 brave pax came into the gloom for Stonehenge. Like the rest of F3 Nation, we honored LT Michael P. Murphy (Navy SEAL KIA 6/28/2005) by doing his signature workout – MURPH. This patriot was awarded the Medal of Honor in 2007 and is a testament to the strength, courage and bravery displayed by our military every day.  It was a tough workout but due to such a solid effort by the pax, we had time for some bonus work.

– 0600 start paid off as skies opened up with a downpour – Great time at #Lone Survivor by F3 Nation. A great must see movie!
– Reciting the Pledge of Allegiance was great. Perhaps this can become a new tradition. You can never be too patriotic!
– Nice to see Haggis at coffeeteria. Hope you heal up and get back at it soon.

Announcements:

I leave you with a soldiers prayer I found that seems appropriate.

Soldiers Prayer
I did my duty,
I paid the supreme price.
I pray you’ll remember,
My sacrifice.
My life was short,
I did my best.
God grant me peace,
In eternal rest.
