Getting old at The Maul

18 men joined YHC for a birthday celebration.  Having toyed with various ideas for excitement, we ended up going with a basic pain cocktail which seemed to do the trick.

The Thang:

Mosey to parking lot for warm up: plank for disclaimer, 25 side straddle hop, 10+10+10+10+10 merkins.  Was gonna just do 40 but couldn’t resist an extra 10.

Mosey to wall at Firebirds

Plankerama.  15 slow durkins, 15 slow dips, run around parking lot. Plankerama then 15 slow durkins, 15 slow dips, run around parking lot. Plankerama then 15 varying speed durkins, 15 varying speed dips, plankerama.

Mosey to bottom of hill by ATM machine. Plankerama then 10 6-count burpees in cadence.  Sprint to top of hill. Mary with feet 6 inches off ground then 20 flutter.  Run to bottom of hill.  Plankerama then 10 6-count burpees in cadence.  Sprint to top of hill.  Mary with feet 6 inches off ground then 20 dolly.  Run to bottom of hill.  Plankerama then 10 6-count burpees in cadence.  Sprint to top of hill. Mary with feet 6 inches off ground then 20 Rosalita.

Mosey to top of Murderhorn.  Plankerama then run to bottom and back up to top.  Plankerama again then back to parking lot.

Mary with feet 6 inches off ground then bicycle let by Puppy Love.  10 regular speed, 10 slow speed, 5 fast speed.  No one does it like P-Lo.

Finish up with 40 celebratory merkins.

Bagpipe Double Header

After a slight Q mix-up, Soft Pretzel and Haggis decided to split the workout and leave the Pax wanting more.  The result was a Fast Twitch-esque running / bootcamp beat down, at slightly higher intensity of course.

The Thang:

Pretzel lead: jog out to parking lot for warm up.  25 SSH, 25 Imperial Walker, 15 merkins, 20 mountain climber.

Jog to lake wall for 15 durkins, 15 dips. Jog around lake to next wall for 15 squats, 15 step ups.

Continue around lake to next wall for 15 durkins, 15 dips. Jog around lake to next wall for 15 squats, 15 step ups.

Plank up in the grass then hit it with Jack Webbs up the ladder to 5 and back down again.

Run around the lake and plank up.

Over to Haggis: 20 merkins. Then jog to bottom of Dunreggan Brae Hill.

Plank time then 15 merkins, hold plank, 5 merkins. Sprint to top of hill.

Plank time then 15 merkins, hold plank, 5 merkins. Swift jog to bottom of hill.

Plank time then 15 merkins, hold plank, 5 merkins. Sprint to top of hill.

Plank time then 10 merkins, hold plank, 5 merkins. Recovery time with 20 flutter. Swift jog to bottom of hill.

Plank time then 15 merkins, hold plank, 5 merkins. Sprint to top of hill.

– We covered 2.7 miles, and a total of 225 merkins.  Not too shabby!

Moleskin:

YHC was in a pissy mood this morning due to chigger bites and lack of sleep.  Couldn’t take the early mumble chatter from Freeleys Comet / Mic Check combo so decided to punish one and all with zero breaks and lots of 6-inch plankerama.  The pax seemed to appreciate this approach and the mumble chatter gradually diminished.

Great work from all the pax – everyone stuck with it, modified as necessary, and no one took any breaks.  Awesome!

It was a fun one this morning guys – thanks for letting me lead.  Really enjoyed it.

YHC gone for next two weeks – Chippy next week, Soft Pretzel after that.  Keep ’em honest!

23 folks braved the humidity for a morning jaunt.

The thang:

  • Mosey to the first staging ground for a warm up. Plank, 30 SSH, 25 Imperial walker, 20 Merkins.
  • Mosey to the lake. Plank, 10 Up and Overs, 15 Decline Merkins, 20 Dips. Round the lake, rinse and repeat.
  • Mosey to the bus stop. 6 Double Merkin Burpees, sprint halfway to the bridge, 6 Double Merkin Burpees, sprint to the bridge, 6 Double Merkin Burpees, Plank. 90 Second People’s chair with shoulder presses.
  • Mosey to the bottom of the hill. Ladder up the hill. Start with one burpee at the top, seven jump squats at the bottom, plank.
  • 6 Diamond Merkins, sprint halfway to the bridge, 6 Diamond Merkins, sprint to the bridge, 6 Diamond Merkins, Plank.
  • Mosey back down the hill, to the lake, to the parking lot. LBCs, 21 Dollys, 15 heels to heaven, 20 bicycles. Jail Break back for COT.

26 hard men took on the Bagpipe monster this morning.  Some won, some lost.

The thang:

Mosey to parking lot. Plank up for warm up and disclaimer. 25 SSH, 20 Imperial Walker, 20 Mountain Climber, Plank, 20 Merkins.

Mosey to loch ness first wall: Plankerama, 12 durkins, 12 dips, 20 jump ups or step ups.

Mosey to loch ness second wall: Plankerama, 15 durkins, 15 dips, 20 jump ups or step ups.

Mosey to bottom of Dunreggan Brae. Plankerama, then 5 burpees, run up hill for 5 burpees in the middle, run up hill for 5 burpees at the top.  Run down the hill again for plankerama at the bottom.

Repeat, this time with plankerama at the top.

Mosey to parking lot.  Line up for Mighty Mite merkin ladder: bear crawl a couple of parking lot spaces, 2 merkins, bear crawl, 4 merkins, bear crawl, 6 merkins…etc up to 16 merkins.

Plankerama, then line up for Long Distance selection standard merkins.  10 for the group, with LD calling repeats every time form was off.  We did about 16 in total I think.

Mosey back to Wells Fargo lot for some Mary:protractor, 20 flutter, 20 dolly, 20 heels to heavens, 5 slow bicycle.

Moleskin:

– Chippy was noted today for his efforts to make sure all pax were accounted for. He did this by making sure that he stayed standing during plankeramas so that he could keep an eye out for everybody.

– Freeleys Comet heard to ask YHC “What … is … wrong … with … you…?”.  A bit ungrateful since this workout was all based on his request not to have to run.

– Welcome back Long Distance and Philmont.  Long Distance’s efforts to keep us all honest during selection standard merkins particularly appreciated.

– Brisket next week.  Be ready!

Good numbers for a Tuesday after a 3-day weekend.  The PAX were roughly 15:10 boot camp: Swift.  Strong work by all PAX today.  Heard a little mumblechatter about the volume of merkin.  Merkin count: approximately 245. Easy on the run at 1.65 miles total.  YHC appreciates the opportunity to lead the strong PAX of Bagpipe.  Fairly certain Haggis is enjoying Swift and would like others to take a Q so he can keep running.  On the ride home Cane told YHC it was a good one, but not as hard as YHC’s other Qs.  This valuable feedback is very much appreciated and the challenge is accepted.  YHC took group out in BOM.

16 men and an iPhone gathered in the gloom for yet another frigid fun fest in the Winter Without End.  Sporting new smokeboots and the now-familiar not-gonna-shave-it-till-the-weight-comes-off beard, YHC readied for Q #2.  The QIC-ship realization generated the first memorable quote of the morning:

“Philmont’s on Q?!?  That’s really scraping the bottom of the barrel.”

So with those words of encouragement, off we went!

The Thang:

–       Run down the hill to the Marriott packing lot for a little warm up.  Feels good to be at the front of the pax for once.

–       SSH x 30.  Felt good at 25 so kept on going.

–       Imperial Walker x 20ish.  Now out of breath.

–       Unveiling of the first iPhone app.  Pushups Coach.  YHC is using this app to work up to 100 Merkins.  App has 6 week program of increasing number sets and reps of Merkins.  Today was Week 2 Day 3.  Start with 14 good form Merkins.

–       Mosey on down to the lake to get out of the wind.  Second memorable quote of the morning:

 

“Philmont is that your jester hat jingling in your pocket or are you just glad to see me?”

 

–       Unveiling of iPhone app #2.  7Min:  A 7 Minute Workout.  Series of 12 exercises for 30 seconds each with 10 seconds in between (or plank if you must MM):

  • Step ups x 30 seconds.  Overachievers jumped up.

  • Peoples Chair x 60 seconds.  Finally heard some grunts and groans.

  • Blow the whistle.  5 burpees on your own.
  • Squats.  Pause on time.  Day 2 of Squat Challenge = 50.  Counted by Freehlys Comet.  More groaning.   YHC smiles.

  • Complete round #2.  Run around the lake to celebrate.  Pax takes off leaving YHC in the dust.  YHC then calls out “you’re going the wrong way” and turns around.  Soon meets Haggis running quite fast about 100 yards from the finish and heads back.

 

–       Round 3.   By this point YHC did not know if he was pitching or catching.  May be missing some details.

Moleskin:  This was post #125 for YHC.  Fartsack, travels, weather and a nagging cold combined to slow my pace since first of the year.  Thanks Haggis for voluntelling me to Q.  Felt great to lead and even better to finish.  Only 136 days remain until Philmonts Big Adventure.  20 pounds to make my weight goal and lose the beard.  No way I would be this close without F3.  Thanks.

Mosey to lake. Partner up.  Reach a total of 50 burpees while partner runs around lake.

Mosey to parking lot for Mary: 20 sit ups, 20 flutter, 20 dolly, 20 heels to heavens, 20 slow bicycle.

Mosey to Loch Ness.  Timed one mile lap around lake.

Moleskin:

YHC fresh off a week of flu and felt pretty ragged.  Was glad when Frehleys (lack of) Commit led a rebellion during the opening merkin party.

Cheetah visiting from Denver NC stole the 1 mile run.  Thought Soft Pretzel was gonna take him but didn’t quite make it.
