Gopher sighted at Hydra

Gopher sighted at Hydra

18 men of Area 51 came (mostly at 05:29 or later) to take on the gloom. YHC had 2 workouts planned and thought at 05:28 the workout was going to be a “playground” morning. At 05:29:30 and increased numbers, YHC autibled and decided to introduce the infamous Gopher from DV to the Hydra Beasts.

I can’t imagine there will ever be a per workout here with these sleepy heads.  That said, everyone was ready to go and off we went.

Moleskin

– Not a ton of chatter this AM, just a few, “again, another lap?”  Yep, That’s the gopher!

– Few jack rabbits out there.  This workout promotes pushing each other.  Once Cole Slaw and I connected after the second lap, I felt better.  Sorry man, I looked all over for you after my first lap, but thought you left me.  Good timing today!

– Speaking of timing, this was new to Hydra, so I wasn’t sure if 1 & 2 would get back at the same time.  I think it worked.

– Sorry for any lack of clarity giving verbal instructions.  I did ask if you were familiar with the Gopher, however I failed to listen if anyone said NO. To busy thinking….glad everyone caught on

–YHC has been off for over a week due to travel and vacation.  I needed a reason to get in the gloom, so I was happy to be leading.  For those who have not lead (Pudding Pop), you are ready!  When else today will you be able to say, “follow me” and mindlessly 17 other will follow.  Always grateful for the opportunity!

– Good to see Cole Slaw, Briquette and Pulled pork standing side by side in the circle (see PAX list).  Anyone else hungry?

-Happy b-day Gullah, great to keep that one under your hat until after the workout…46 burpees, you would have had some haters this AM!

– No announcements, keep an eye on twitter

I skipped WIB this week to hit Skunkworks, but I feel like I got it anyway. Camacho and I apparently didn’t listen, so we were doing 40 LBCs and 20 Dollys each. Pretty sure we got in 4 total sets, and without the run in, I had it at a total of +/- 2.75 miles. Good stuff today, Cheese Curd!

I guess I’ll just throw this out there and see if anyone responds:

After Cindy’s pompous, egocentric, BS-laden diabtribe which is wrapped around a nugget of truth (see here: http://f3nation.com/2014/04/22/diary-of-the-bustedpaw-entry-2-the-2ks/ ), I’ll mention that I’ve talked with Skywalker since about December about starting a WIB-like workout for A51. The format would be very similar to today, except there will be a Pre-blast, so you know the workout ahead of time. Probably skip the “race format” of Young Guns, so truly a challenging “you vs you” workout. Any interest?

“Cindy’s pompous, egocentric, BS-laden diatribe….” You repeat yourself, but also miss the #MeMonster’s main point (which I tend to agree with): it’s the competition** that pushes you to the next level.

Every time I go “you v. you” I end up chasing a flaccid-willed underachiever that wants to surrender at the first hint of discomfort. When I go “you v. that guy in front of me, or right behind me” that’s when I push harder. Ego does that.

Eating kale and sprinting a 12 story parking deck help, too.

Competition was the “nuggest of truth”.

I say “you vs you” because only you can decide to push yourself, to chase the guy in front of you.

My first few times at WIB, it was about getting through the workout. Then, it became completing the workout, doing all the reps. Then, it finally became about competing.

Heck, I’m going through a similar process now when I go to Skunkworks. I can’t swing 50 lbs around like some of those guys, but when it’s time to run, I’m going to try to beat everyone there.

I forgot to mention that I’m hitting Muthaship again in a couple of weeks (Q at DMZ on Monday) for anyone that wants to join me. No takers last time. May 5.

Looks like a great one curd. On a tour of old mansions (wife won that activity option) in Nashville at the moment – which is why I am typing (yawn). Be ready for some more good hydra workouts upcoming in May. Site Q’s lined up to bring it. 1-year anniversary hydra workout on May 8. Bring it pax.

I’ve got the Q at Hydra on 6/5, I think, in addition to this Saturday at The Rock and this Monday at DMZ.

I was thinking Tuesdays, same as WIB and Young Guns.

I joined the circle late – I ran in from home, but my satellite watch had 5:29 as I approached the school to find the PAX circling the lot for a warmup run. I loved the workout this morning – great lead CC. I wish I didn’t have to run home after – I logged 6.25 total to, during and from the workout. That was a little more than I hoped for.

Kirk, I like the idea of a WIB style workout every week, or Qs could work it into already schedule workouts like CC did this morning. I like workouts like this one that include around 3 miles of running. No better way to keep the heart rate up.

Kirk – let’s talk, got some ideas we should consider.

Good distance Gummy. Nice bonus miles!

With nice weather no reason NoT to accept the run/bike to hydra challenge as well to add miles for those chasing them. 3/4 mile run to OP from Harris teeter roundabout. Easily tack on 1.5 miles. Park and run.

You can also park and run into Hydra from Candlewyck. Three options: my house (1.1 miles each way), clubhouse (1.25), Food Lion (1.4).

Okay. Park on high tide’s front yard and we can run in from there. Great thinking high tide.
