Bagpipe is a “go”

3 hairy SOBs went skating.

The Thang:

Mosey / shuffle to the parking deck.

Haggis lead: run up and down several times and do a few merkins and burpees.

Outback lead: run up and down some more and do a few merkins plus mary plus wall squat routine.

Frack lead: run up and down some more and do variations of merkins and mary and squats.

Moleskin:

Took longer to get the ice off the car than to get to the AO.  With only three SOBs in sight, it was mighty tempting to call it a day and head back to the fartsack.  Thankfully, F3’s honor was preserved, and the workout was done.

 

Fight Club

10 men got a solid upper body workout.

Fight club has different stations – bags, pads, jump ropes, medicine balls, etc.  We all have our favorite, and everyone loves the patch of dirt known as “the ring”.

There were a couple of new faces today – but every face looks the same on the end of a glove, right?

Bagpipe bursts a bag

29 Pipers crushed the parking deck at Bagpipe.  12 Swifters ran around the hood.  Typical Tuesday morning at the SOB hideout.

The Thang:

Run to parking deck for warm up: 20 Side Straddle Hops, 20 Imperial Walker, 20 Merkins

Run to top of the deck and partner up.  One partner run to the bottom and back up while the other does an exercise.  Exercises were something like this (sorry, I have probably missed a few).

Burpees, Merkins, Little Baby Crunch, Elbow Plank, Wall Squats, Regular Squats … plus a few more.  Doesn’t sound like much, but everyone got their money’s worth with the running up and down.  Chippy kept us honest with words of wisdom and encouragement (“get your belly off the ground”, etc,etc).

Run back to Vine for COT.

Moleskin:

41 combined pax is a record.  Awesome push for the New Year!

Strong running by Cain and Mermaid racing up the deck – nice work.

Great to see Commish out for his third workout in as many days.  Strong.

Some of the old timers (Mic Check, Market Timer), definitely getting a bit sloppy on the elbow plank.  Mic Check would rather do the J Lo.

Option two: similar to this

A combined total of 36 foolhardy men went running in Ballantyne this morning.  11 of them were at Swift, 25 at Bagpipe.  This is the Bagpipe back blast.

The Thang:

Warm up: 25 Side Straddle Hops, 15 Imperial Walkers, 20 merkins.

Mosey to lake wall: 12 durkins, 12 dips. Run to next wall.  Plankerama, then 12 durkins, 12 dips.  Low and slow.

Mosey to bullring.  Plankerama, then 10 merkins.  Run 400m fast.  Two sets of Mary – 20 x Flutter, 20 x Dolly.  Run 400m fast.  20 x Heels to heavens, 20 x rosalita. Run 400m fast. 20 right side knee raises, 20 left side knee raises. Run 400m fast. 20 little baby crunch, 20 bicycles with Puppy Love.

Mosey to bottom of hill.  10 x 6-count burpees, then run to the top of the hill.  Plank, then 15 solid merkins.

Mosey on home.

Moleskin:

– Great work from all – everyone enjoyed the sprints more than YHC expected.

– When given the option to pursue a different activity instead of the second set of 400s, the pax wanted to know what the other option was.  Some were surprised that it was “to go a short distance from here, and then do something similar to this.”  Didn’t sound like much of an option, so the pax opted for more of the same.

Strange noises in the brush

It might have been my imagination, but while doing a little bit of Mary in the parking lot in deepest Ballantyne, I was almost sure that I could hear Madame Tussaud bellowing in the undergrowth.

Either way, 31 SoBs showed up for the Bagpipe / Swift / Mudrun beatdown. 11 at Bagpipe, 17 at Mudrun training, and 3 at Swift.  This is the Bagpipe Backblast.  All pax listed below.

Mosey to parking lot for warm up: 25 SSH, 10 Imperial Walker, 15 Merkins

Moleskin:

– Strong group today with really impressive showing for Mud Run training.

– Bootcamp pax stayed at it though and did not run as much as usual. Upper body took a beating.

– Frehleys complained, but less than usual.

Muggy at Stonehenge

14 brave men donned their Sons of Ballantyne colors this morning and took on the monster.  We won.

The Thang:

Warm up: plankerama for disclaimer, 10 slow merkins, 25 side straddle hops

Jog to lake wall: 15 merkins, 15 dips, 15 durkins.  Run around lake 2/3, sprint 1/3, plankerama to recover. Repeato – 15 merkins, 15 dips, 15 durkins.  Run around lake 2/3, sprint 1/3, plankerama to recover.

Jog to next lake:

50 flutter kicks. 10 burpees in cadence, 15 merkins in cadence, 20 dolly in cadence.  Run around lake with sprint on back side.  Side straddle hops to recover.

Jog to putting green:

25 flutter kicks. 10 burpees in cadence, 15 merkins in cadence, 20 LBC in cadence.  Run around green with sprint on back side.  Side straddle hops to recover.

Jog to next lake:

20 flutter kicks. 10 burpees in cadence, 15 merkins in cadence, 20 bicycles in cadence.  Run around lake with sprint on back side.  Side straddle hops to recover.

Jog to parking lot:

Plankerama for a while, then 10 heels to the heavens.

Jog almost all the way back:

Merkin Mary ladder: 2 merkins, 20 mary, 4 merkins, 20 mary, 6 merkins, 20 mary, 8 merkins, 20 mary, then ran out of time.

25 slow count merkins to finish off, then return to COT.

Moleskin:

– Strong workout today from all – thank you for the chance to lead.

– There was a fair bit of chatter but everyone stayed extremely focussed throughout. Frehleys Comet lost it at one point when he apparently had a hallucination that some attractive ladies ran by.

– YHC was totally smoked and was shaking so bad at the end that tea was spilled at coffeeteria. That was a first.

Tour de Ballantyne

24 strong SOBs embarked on a brief tour of Ballantyne.  Many of the pax were disappointed that it wasn’t longer.  If only we had more time…

Since the Sons of Ballantyne are one big happy family, all 24 meatheads from Bagpipe plus the 9 speedsters from Swift are included in this backblast.

The Thang:

Warm up at Vine while waiting for those delayed by traffic: 25 side straddle hops, 20 mountain climbers, 15 imperial walkers, 15 merkins plus a bit of plankerama.

Mosey for a while, then plankerama.  10 merkins at the wall, 12 durkins at the wall.  12 dips on the wall.

Mosey for a while to the bottom of a hill, then plankerama. 10 merkins, 5 6-count burpees, sprint to top of hill.  10 Merkins, 5 6-count burpees.

Mosey to the distant lake. Plankerama. Unspecified number of merkins in cadence, then 10 6-count burpees in cadence.  Run around lake.  Unspecified number of merkins in cadence, then 10 6-count burpees in cadence.

Mosey to the bulls.  On back for Mary.  Feet 6 inches, then protractor for a while.  Transition into 20 flutter, protractor, 20 dolly, protractor, 20 heels to heavens, protractor, 10 slow bicycles, protractor, 20 rosalitas, protractor.  Elbows for a while, then an unspecified number of merkins.

Mosey to Loch Ness.  Plankerama, 10 merkins, 15 durkins, 15 dips.

Mosey back to COT while passing the Swift runners on the way.

Moleskin:

– Had hoped for a full tour of Ballantyne, but the hill was too good to miss and slowed things down a bit.

– Strong showing from all the pax, and welcome to FNGs Yinzer, Brokeback, and Switch Hitter.

– YHC is the world’s worst with names, so I might have this wrong… it was either Heartbreaker, Sunrise, or Strawberry (or perhaps all three) giving a lot of verbal encouragement, especially during Mary.  Much appreciated.

– Next week Madame Tussaud has the Q.  That will make this week look like a piece of cake.
