SOFAWIB – The Modified Kirk

5 men emerged into what can only be scientifically described as a “chewy” gloom to push themselves and each other. Here is what we did.

The Modified Kirk
Four rounds will get you
– 28 pullups,
– 56 burpees,
– 84 merkins,
– 112 squats,
– 140 flutters,
– 1,200yds of sprints
I suspect some may have snuck in another round. T-claps to them.
T-claps also to my fellow site Q who rolled in on with a broken toe received while kayaking up a waterfall, and still posted a 6:10 opening mile time.
I called to audible out of the final mile run, then looked around and everyone was gone. I love this crew.

Announcements
Swiper’s BRR team needs van drivers. Enjoy all the wonder of the BRR without all the unbearable joint pain, all from the relative comfort of a van.

Story Time
Three weeks off. Three weeks of hemming and hawing about your stupid foot that you injured the last time you Q’d a workout here. You stretch it some more.
Going to take it easy today. Just ease back into it” you think to yourself.
Burpees would be better if they had a cooler name. They suffer from bad advertising.
This is stupid. It’s hurt and this is a bad idea. And I have to be here.
Then the pax start trickling in, and its go time.

Nice and easy run to HT and back and why is Kirk so far ahead?
This isn’t a race, just keep in focus” and Swiper and Brushback just lapped you again.
Is Voodoo even sweating? Damn gator blood.

And there’s that sound again. That sound you hear isn’t just the pax tailing you, ready to pass you. It’s your pride. Not necessarily the bad kind that injures your relationships with others. But the stupid kind, that makes less than intelligent decisions. It’s also the same pride that pushes you to be better.

As you sit there with a bag of frozen peas on your foot, you think about your pride and question whether posting was the right thing to do. And even if it wasn’t, you would do it again anyway. And we may come up with our own reasons like “I have to train for BRR” or “fat and stupid is no way to go through life, Sundancer”
But really, would we make that decision if it wasn’t for those others? The ones who pass us and push us and smile while they do it because they are happy to be there with you.
Of course you wouldn’t.
You’re proud to be one of them.

That was a strong Q, Sundancer. And t-claps to both site Qs for posting with injured appendages. Even with a bum foot, I heard you right behind me the whole way on the opening mile. I only ran the last one so I could skip the pullups, burpees, etc. that I knew would be waiting for me if I stayed at the playground.

And I was definitely sweating. I left my mop-up towel in my car while I got ready for work and my car smelled like death when I got back in.

See you next week for more fun. I hear Kirk is planning to use the blocking sled…

Great to be out with you Sundancer. T-claps to you and Kirk for posting and leading today despite the injuries.

Though i will add that injuries and pain just prove you are an F3er.

Love this workout. #worstlastmileinF3

Brushback pushed me on that opening mile. I was ready to coast in, but I kept hearing footsteps. It pretty much ended in a sprint, followed by walking +/- 50 yards to the squad car. No merlot spilled.

The toe held up surprisingly well, though I modified out of burpees to avoid jarring it, and as you may suspect, it was much easier without them.

I started to hang back with Sundancer (by the way, great work on the playlist and BB today), whose audible out of the final mile was overruled when no one wanted more burpees, then decided to try to catch Brushback on the final mile. He was within eyesite at HT, and I got behind a couple tomatoes who were moving at a decent pace. They went single file to let me pass, and right after that I caught up to Voodoo and “encouraged” him not to get passed, so he picked up the pace and finished the last third of a mile or so with me at a sub-8 minute pace, slightly behind Swiper and Brushback.

I joked that if the line sled is out next week that we may go Cool Runnings (Sanka – you dead, mon?) with a 2-man sled push. Swiper wants to run a Murph, so that’ll happen sometime soon. I’ve been eyeing a couple of side streets that look hilly (aptly named Hillside? and Cedar Croft) for a SOFA WIB variant of Hamburger Hill (http://f3nation.com/2015/08/03/wib-preblast-hamburger-hill-3/).

When will BRR be over?

I second the t-claps on the playlist and backblast. Cobains for not mentioning that in my original post.

And thanks to Kirk (and the tomatoes) for the push at the end. Next time, maybe you could just give me a partner carry. I’d love to run a sub-7 minute mile and I think that’s the only way it’s going to happen.

Sundancer, I heard “hate” gasped but I thought you were just gasping “I hate myself.” Weird.

Sanka, you dead mon? Yehhhhh mon.

Brush brought it in strong today. He was water-cooler talking on the way back like it was nothing. I’ll also point out that Brush went shirtless in honor of Iron Mike’s absence, #nomanleftbehind. Sundancer, strong BB and post. Your hatred for running is clear and well communicated. Kirk wobbled around running this morning. Anyone else notice that he wobbles while running? Again, for a man who hates running, it’s impressive speed.

There are a lot of good presents soon to be placed under the SOFAWIB tree. The Murph will appear (soon), the DOP (Dirty Old Providence) will be explored a lot more, and we might have another running of that horrific Rea Rd saga with every other light. Regardless, the BRR is cramping SOFAWIB’s style. I’m running the BRR, #hypocrite, but once the BRR wraps up, the PAX will flock. Get your mind right.

Hopefully I didn’t offend anyone with my Iron Mike impression. #ifeelsofree

Swiper and i had a moment when he asked where i’d been and that he was worried sick #tendermoments. he then went on to gloat about his pad at figure 8 island right beside his boy John Mack. #blueblood

Total agreement with Swiper, SOFAWIB is about to get right after BRR. The originals will bask in the glory as the newcomers get smacked up beside the head by this beast.

Think this workout now rivals Run n’ Gun for the highest backblast comment to Pax ratio in all of F3 Nation. That alone deserves a Tclaps.

Ssshhhhh SB. But for reals, you need to get some SOFAWIB. It’s the hardest workout period (on Tuesdays, in A51, off Rea Rd.).

With those accolades, SOFAWIB is definitely going to appear in my Tuesday rotation after the marathon in October.

Hated to miss this morning. With traveling, vacation, work, and a jacked up ankle, it’s been too long.

See you guys soon. #Tears
