Ye Olde Moleskine:

Good crew this morning.  Fair amount of mumblechatter from Tadpole and Flipper, our younger nautically-named pax.

Full disclosure – YHC was hurtin’ at several points today. #smokeyourself

20-20-20 was intended to be 20 minutes of legs, 20 minutes of arms/shoulders and 20 minutes of core/plank & mary.

Harley was complaining 1/2 way through the 3rd 20 – something about being cold after working up a good sweat during the first 40 minutes.  He was wearing shorts and apparently the wind atop The Rock got the best of him.  YHC caved and audibled….then proceeded to tweak my groin again on the karaoke nonsense.  That was my fault.  Rosalita was tweaking the old man’s groin, too.  #mercy #old #injured #justdealwithit #gettingtiredofhashtags

Good to see Cable Guy – hadn’t seen you in many months brother.  And T-claps to Tadpole for his acceptance to Liberty U this coming fall.  God’s blessings young man.

Our “hate” M is in dire need of a rename.  Something about Military Intelligence, but YHC informed him prior to launch that is also the abbreviation for a pax member’s bride.  Somebody help me rename the lad.

Hope the pax got what they paid for…and then some.

Love Q’ing at The Rock – Area 51’s finest AO.

There were some announcements, all of which will be on weekly email…so read it.

I need a ruling, TR! Who gets rename rights? Is it Q of the week or site Q. Frankly it does not matter as I like Mole a lot, too, so my question is purely academic.

Very strong Q Hops! The 20-20-20 concept was solid and I felt it (still do) afterward! Those dang cumberland county viaduct things have plagued me ever since as well….holy pain in my side!

Next up is Harley!

The cemented precedence is that Workout Q during an FNG’s first workout has final authority on names. A great responsibility. The Workout Q would be wise to take on counsel, especially from the FNG’s EHer, if present, but the Site Q has no special dispensation other than to make sure the FNG’s contact info is entered into the Book of Life.

Renames, on the other hand, happen so infrequently that there is no established case law. In order for a rename to take, there must be a compelling reason and popular support.

Proposed renames fall, roughly, into these categories:

1. Hollow Threat: Not actually a candidate for rename; usually a result of a Pax’s outrageous behavior or some other infamous incident.

2. Better Information: Though rare, there are times when information comes to light that forces a COT. CASE 1: We had an FNG from Nebraska and was named The Oracle. He was renamed later that week when it was discovered that an early Nebraska mascot was the Bugeater. CASE 2: A fellow from the Pittsburgh area was named Heinz until the day he scaled the backstop fence at Hellenic Park like Donkey Kong. The fact that he was shirtless that day cemented the decision.

3. Repetition: the same nickname within the same region is a no-no.

4. Executive Decree: there is established precedent that the Workout Q has until the BB is posted to make his final decision (see the 2015 decision, Skunk v. TR – “Frosty Paws, fka Pocket Pool). That said, the usual practice is that the FNG’s name at the end of the COT is his name. An ambiguous and untested area of the naming case law.

5. FNG Resistance: an individual, unhappy with his name, appeals for a new one. The Pax are usually more than happy to comply, almost universally to the detriment of the appellant. (ref: A**less Chaps fka Cowbell)

6. 3rd Party Petition: Though it is not recommended that a pax appeal to change HIS name, he may, if presented with compelling reasons, appeal to change another Pax’s name. The most infamous, and certainly the most egregious, example of this came to a head because of a simple nametag inscribed with “MWanker.” We lost a great nickname because of that nametag. And a little bit of our manhood, too.

Bottom line: Hops is making a Level 6 proposition on the grounds that M can lead to confusion. I second the motion to consider a rename, but on the grounds that all veterans (except Radar) deserve strong names (or at least not emasculating ones).

If there is popular support for the proposed namechange, let it be known.

Holy Mother of Pearl…much to consider here!! I think we need both Hops and M to appear at The Rock this Sat to settle this and for a jury of peers to assist in the final call. Great responsibility is right!! Thank you TR, Esquire!
