Dirty Words

DATE: 2023-03-03 AO: Kevlar Q: Hops PAX: spackles, Orange Whip, ChickenWing, Mile High, Full House, Cottonmouth, Manziel, Rhapsody, Limey, Loan Shark FNGs: None COUNT: 11 Well the forecasts were a mixed bag. No rain. Spackler said the over/under on pax was 6; he took the under. There were burpees for some. SSH’s for none. YHC shamed Cottonmouth into upsizing his rock; and then made sure I didn’t have to lift his when we rotated. Mostly meat & potatoes today. While we were getting drained of our blood, Marta told me we went 1.8 miles. He wasn’t there, rather, he was playing frisbee but all-seeing Strava told him. Metro Manziel joined us and was pushing hard. No M’s, girlfriends or mom’s showed up to the workout, so that was good. If you haven’t done the Wordle yet, Spackler can help you – a good start word rhymes with Venus. Speaking of off-color, Chicken Wing plays “Dirty Wordle”. Oh the humanity! Love the word games; harkening back to my middle school years dominating the Piatt-Douglas County Spelling Bee. If you’re reading this – go give blood at the F3 blood drive. Baracus promised not to eat all the Nutter Butters and you can chase them with some adult beverages. T-claps to Marta for putting it together!

Come to the Brave for fun and a great Coffeteria.

DATE: 2023-03-03 AO: -Brave Q: fire_hazard PAX: soft_pretzel, haggis, SweetWater, Hippie, Taco_Stand, Franky, midriff FNGs: None COUNT: 8 Lots of chatter today and some grumbling. Cotters to our friends Haggis and Sweetwater. Either the PAX are not very smart or I am bad at explaining things (probably a little of both), because it took them a bit to understand how we would go through these rounds.
Everyone pushed hard today but soft pretzel really killed it. He was out font the whole time. The pax got spread out on this one, but we continued to pass each other and gave encouragement and /or heckling throughout the workout. Hippie is sneaky fast and was also crushing it. TACO is coming back from injury really well and was pushing it hard. Frankie and Midriff pushed hard until the end and everyone got in over 4 miles. Thank you for letting me lead.
WARMUP: mosey over to the parking lot by AAA for some SSH, Windmills, merkins and a quick stretch. THE THANG: go to the deck via the four shorter Btyne corporate park buildings. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Blood drive tomorrow, Brewery Run on Saturday, lots of other CSAUP’s in the area between Fort Mill and Metro. Chatter of Waxhaw Trail Fest on 5/6 (Sledge is a HC!)
COT: This effort was inspired by a workout Lex led many months ago. He had us tossing punching bags over our heads and all sorts of gear work. Loved the creativity and wanted to adapt the format to my own growing inventory of cinder blocks, weights and a sandbag.
Strong effort by this morning’s crew. Mad props to Eleanor for keeping the streak alive at 4 days. Rumor is that he’s going to tackle The Brave to extend it to 5 days. Great to see Jitterbug out who will be visiting for the next 10 days! Appreciate the drive that Happy Meal makes to stay engaged with the SOB boys now that he lives in Mint Hill. Thanks Eleanor for taking us out and Kirby/Franky for the words of wisdom on the practical benefits of taking the Daily Red Pill.
During the workout I asked a few pax what they’re training for. Now that I’ve finished running a marathon, I’m asking myself the same question. I posed the question WT first and he (inadvertently) nailed it with his immediate response. “Life”.
It’s easier to train for a timed event, or a measured distance event. It’s harder to train for life and the unanticipated hardship (and unexpected joy) we will face on the way. It’s easy to fall in the trap of thinking that First F is about personally achieving a goal, or acquiring a certain state of physical shape. I revisited the “King” chapter in QSource and was reminded that a man maintains Fitness for reasons outside of himself…
“A man who has turned Pro doesn’t exercise to get good at exercising. His goal is Preparedness, a far broader and deeper objective than just feeling strong and looking good on the beach (although there is nothing wrong with either of those two things). The HIM stays in strict physical training to get a crown that will last forever. Thus, there is an eternal purpose in what he does. He is building a kingdom of Preparedness within which he intends other people to safely dwell. He knows that fatigue makes cowards of us all.
The goal of the King is to constantly increase 3S2T: Speed, Strength, Stamina, Toughness (physical) and Toughness (mental). These are the aspects of a HIM’s physical kingdom that enable him to do the things he must do to be a Leader. It’s not really very complicated, how can a man be much of Leader if he gets smoked pulling his family’s luggage off the baggage carousel and carrying it to the minivan? What will a son learn from a father who can’t play catch with him in the backyard for more than five minutes without having to sit down?”

Why do they still make square 9v batteries?

DATE: 2023-03-02 AO: Peak-51 Q: Spammer PAX: lois, slim_fast, Spammer, kilowatt FNGs: None COUNT: 4 The answer obviously is because nothing else will fit in your smoke detector… this and a doctoral discussion on the proper installation of gutters on tents were among the many conversations amongst the pax this morning. Only four pax dared to brave the elements and the 60 degree plus weather for a little bootcamp action in downtown Matthews this morning.

WARMUP: Started with some SSH and IW’s in the launch parking lot.
THE THANG: Mosey’d over to the Allen Tate building in an attempt to find a parking lot that isn’t a like rubbing your hands against a cheese grater. Did an exercise of 7’s on each end of the parking lot consisting of Burpees and Merkins (1/6, 2/5, 3/4, 4/3, 5/2, 6/1) running the length of the lot between each exercise. Afterwards we mosey’d down to the lower lot by Jekyll & Hyde for a starfish workout. 20 squats in the middle followed by 20 of a called exercise in each corner. Round one was lunges, Sharon Towers, arm circles & dips. Round two was heel raises, CDD, hillbillies, & merkins. There was a brief spluttering of mist after round one so we took shelter under a tent for some work on our six. There were plenty of dry spots under the tent for everyone, but for some reason @slim_fast decided to lay down in the only place that was wet. Exercises under the tent included LBCs, heels to heaven, Rosalitas and Freddy Mercurys. MARY: finished with about 10 minutes to spare so we hung out on the brick wall of the new Flying Biscuit in Matthews until we saw Sparta run in. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Still praying for @sensei’s M. F3 Blood Drive 3/3 COT: @Spammer with the take out today
