SOFAWIB: The Fresh Murph of Bel Air

  • When:08/23/16

  • The PAX: Sundancer, Kirk, Swiper, Hammer, Thunder Road, Deep Dish, TalkBox (War Daddy), IronMike, ColdCuts, High Tide aaaaaaand ..... Caddy (#kotters)

SOFAWIB: The Fresh Murph of Bel Air

A dozen for this week’s edition of SOFAWIB. Bel Air was on a mission, and I was game to support. Here’s what we did –

THE PLAN: 3-Mile Murph
Run the HT Mile 3 times
100 pullups, 200 Merkins, 300 Squats

NMM: Before we even get started, High Tide runs into the lot with the WV on. So yep, he’s officially leveled up to SuperSaiyan.
Conversely, BelAir aka Bro Zaire, was unsatisfied with his Ortho10k time, blamed it on too much MAF, and tried to take it out on Kirk by knocking him off the “kissing your sister” section of the OfficialSOFAWIBHTMileStravaSegmentLeaderboard. Come on fam, it doesn’t matter if he ran all over Mt. Charlotte the day before; Kirk has two running speeds, 1) Ludicrous and 2) Broken. Long story short, everyone is still bitter and Brushback was popping Korbel at 6:16. And just wait until I plant gps tags on Swiper (Dailek) and IronMike (spawn of FloJo and the Brawny lumberjack), post the results on MapMyRun, and ruin everyone’s day.
Confession – I saw Thunder Road run past the usual turnaround at HT and didn’t yell for him to turn back. Call it rookie hazing.
No one likes my taste in music. Ingrates.
After being dogged by just about everyone for my enjoyment of Garden&Gun (the Martha Stewart Living for southern transplants), including ThunderRoad and DeepDish who I’ve worked out with maybe once, HighTide sniped me with “Never heard of it. I know about Field & Stream though.” Brutal. I still love all of you and this is why everyone except Hammer posts to FastTwitch now.
BRR season is stupid. Running all the time is stupid. Pull-ups are awesome. FastTwitch is terrible. SOFAWIB is awesome. Everyone who posted this morning is awesome. Caddy is awesome for posting after a very public HC on F3Twitter. BelAir is awesome for Q’ing.

Announcements: Caddy is collecting clothing for the folks in Baton Rouge. Hollar at him or me or TalkBox to collect.
Prayers for OneEye after his recent skin procedure.
Church On The Street is the first weekend of September. Check the South Charlotte nation page for signups.

Why haven’t you Q’d at SOFAWIB yet? Yes, you. Shout at Kirk and Swiper to get on the calendar.

Many thanks to Swiper for the STRONG takeout, and to him and Kirk for the keys to the place.

Thank you for making SOFAWIB your choice for weekly periodical and music criticism.

I was on a sad clown run this morning and found myself temporarily among the scattered pax. A shadow I believe to have been Kirk passed by and yelled something at me. I didn’t really hear what he said, but I think it was, “Awesome, Chico is here! If people hear about this we will have 74 people here next week!” I think it was something like that. After reading this BB, however, I am glad I kept straight instead of making the turn into the Teeter. Good work.

It was. I was loving the cooler temps, though I’m not gonna claim I maintained that pace up Colony.

I’m looking forward to posting with my SOFAWIB brothers post-BRR. Enough of this running business. This workout looks terrible and I can’t believe HT did it with a weight vest on.

Full disclosure…I needed overtime to complete it with the weight vest. I ran into the workout for my opening mile, went straight to the playground to begin my work while the pax went to HT for their mile, skipped the mid-session 2nd mile to HT while I continued my work, ran the closing mile to HT with them (their 3rd, my 2nd), and got my 3rd mile running home. So, I still got a 3 mile Murph, but it took longer than 45 minutes. I think it was about 66 minutes total(about 55 min for the standard Murph with vest), but I got it all in. And, I didn’t have to run for an hour! #motivation

Thanks, Bel Air and Sundancer, for The Murph this morning. After running Horsey yesterday, I couldn’t bear to think of running much today. Running is stupid, and pullups are awesome (even kipping ones).
Appreciate the tunes, even if I didn’t know that Grammy winning artist…it’s better than listening to myself strain out the pullups and merkins.
Garden & Gun is something I’ll have to research further. Sounds suspicious.

Aye! My favourite (#still British) part was the fact that you had Cold Cuts carry the BOOMDancer on his last HT Mile. And damn that HT Mile. She’s still a tricky beast. Thanks for handling the penmanship as I can no longer lift my arms anymore.

Too much running lately and 3-Mile Murph (always think of Gilligan’s Island) was just the ticket today. After the gauntlet had been thrown down, so to speak, I knew this was a bad idea. I got a wee bit dizzy after that 6:17.81 opening mile. So the speed is slowly coming back, just need to also get the recovery back. Pretty much called it, as I told Sundancer in passing (literally) that I was going to crash and burn.

Think I may have done half or 2/3 of the workout and spent the rest of the time criticizing Talking Heads, Garden & Gun (sidenote, female college friend was a writer there), and “outlaw country” in general. Some of those were actual held opinions, but most was just to see the incredulity in Sundancer’s face.

Bel Aire almost PR’ed the HT Mile #MAF’dItUp. Swiper and Iron Mike were also moving at a fast clip on the opening mile, guessing 6:45ish. Swiper doing so after getting drug all over Horsey by Fishwrap yesterday. Impressive 2-day performance. Iron Mike equally impressive for doing it at 220+.

Good to see Deep Dish for possibly the first time since my last post at The Rock, circa late 2014 / early 2015. Also good to have Thunder Road back out – I’d have called out the turn had I been there. And finally, good to have the Old Salem clown car crew back out there, and I’m including Caddy in there too. They bring up the level of discourse to heights not seen since, well, Rod Carew converted.

Et tu, Sundancer? You cut me deep, bro. Don’t make me go through the archives to confirm a 2016 post.

Can anyone confirm that Kirk was actually injured? Maybe he was getting some sort of cybernetic implants or something.
