Calling Down Thunder from Mt Olympus

6 pax and two 2.0’s are still recovering from their mighty feats over the hour we know as Olympus (aka toughest Saturday workout in the Region).  While no lightning hit, each left feeling Thunderstruck.

The Thang

COP:

  • Standing High Knees, watching Strange Brew (& Spidey) arrive on two wheels
  • 20 Swings OYO
  • Prying Squats – 3-ish
  • Halos – 5 each direction

<Thunder, confirmed by lightning detector as 9.9 miles away, caused an audible for a preemptive move to the covered sidewalk>

Main Event – Supersets

  • 10 one-handed swings (Left & Right)
  • 10 goblet squats
    • Rinse & repeat 3 times through
    • Take a lap around the track (~0.25 miles beginning at our location)

 

  • 10 cleans (L+R)
  • 5 lunges sets (front, back, side – counts as one) (L+R)
    • Rinse & repeat twice (3 just took too long)
    • Jog across parking lot and back (track took too long as well)

 

  • 10 presses (L+R)
  • 10 high pulls (L+R)
    • Rinse & repeat twice
    • Jog across parking lot and back and then on to the playground

 

  • 10 pullups
  • 10 decline merkins
    • Rinse & repeat 3 times
    • Jog back to covered sidewalk

 

  • 10 snatches (L+R)
  • 20 teabag squats
    • Rinse & repeat twice
    • Jog across parking lot and back

 

  • 6 Turkish Getups (3L+3R)

 

  • Waiter Carry across parking lot, switching hands for return trip
  • Suitcase Carry across parking lot, switching hands for return trip

  • Russian Twist – 10 IC
  • Flutter Press – 10 IC
  • Pullovers – 7 OYO
  • Louganis – 7 OYO
  • 20 one-handed swings

Naked Moleskine:

Despite accusations that YHC was trying to call down lightning, based on a playlist that included Thunderstruck and Rock You Like a Hurricane, the rain and its associated lightning held off until after the workout.  This was certainly an unexpected blessing, after having the lightning preview not 5 minutes into the workout and being able to see the rain just to our west.  We’ll take it!

Everyone did a great job pushing it today, including the 2.0’s.  Most everyone tried something new, something they haven’t mastered, or perhaps a larger KB.  And each left better for it (and spent, if YHC’s personal experience is representative).  Speaking of spent, I need a nap – I’ve got football to watch this afternoon!

Great Q HT, nice to try something different for once, thankful there was a few short running “recoveries” from the KB work, thanks for the tutorial on the Turkish Getups also.

Great Q as always HT. I love gear workouts. I’m all for 0.0 workouts, or just a little mosey here and there. lol
