Escalator – Taper Freeplay edition

It was a decent morning at OP. The weather was good. Eight dudes showed up for a BRR-taper friendly workout despite the confusing pre-blast.

Thang

Partner up and run the HT mile (slow today – like 7:15+)

Partners alternate between exercise set and active recovery:

Sets – 1 pull up, 2 merkins, 3 LBCs….increasing each time….up to 11 pull ups, 22 merkins, 33 LBCs. A series of n, 2n, 3n where n increases by 1 each time – Talkbox glazed over trying to read this just now. He got to that point in the pre-blast and stopped. Math is hard.

Active recovery – mountain climbers up to 11, flutters on the way down

At 6:06, re-run the HT mile. COT with Bushwood providing the takeout.

Announcements:

BRR teams need drivers.  See me or Swiper or anyone else running.

Mud run signups (final week):  Final week – GO SIGN UP

Moleskine

Let’s start with the bad – I’m putting myself first with this as lead offender, but we all pretty much mailed that one in #Iamthird? Super slow first mile, no one finished, even the non-BRR guys didn’t push themselves, and that’s on me. As a workout, this was a sub-par effort, and no one really held anyone else accountable for mailing it in. That won’t continue next week.  The good was that it kept us all together, and the 2nd F was high today #FOF #whateverthatmeans.  Some hilarious moments…most of which will be lost in translation here:

Cop car = still empty. Interesting mix of music featuring bongos, piano, and guano (in rap lyrics) – so underrated. Swiper went shirtless in honor of Iron Mike (in absentia), only to re-shirt for flutters.  Can only assume that Voodoo needed a smartsack after attempting to lead a bunch of refuseniks at the KB station yesterday #herdingcats.  I was accused of speaking in tongues #disguised and attempting to hold up a fence #cropdustingetiquette. Bushwood = #soccerarms. Instead of normal pace on the intro mile, Brushback was content to “run with the pack” #weallgotostate #no. Daisy was doing his best Nibbler midwife impersonation #convincing. His partner Krypto – which may or may not be spelled with a K, but I like it like that – was silento today #watchmewatchme.

A comparative discussion of “bad food choices” versus “bad food” and “bad life choices”, which turned out to be a seemingly perfect foreshadowing (known?) of the highlight of the morning on the final mile, as we all ran past an unnamed member of the pax spilling merlot in what I believe was the officer’s front yard.  We’ll have to see if the cop car is still empty next week.

We’ll turn our attention to mud run training next week, which probably means more running, pullups, and jumping over stuff.

This was a sweaty, lackadaisical SOFAWIB. Most men wanted to punch their ticket this morning, mailing it in for 45 minutes straight. Regardless, a strong BRR-week showing. The workout was surprisingly simple and yet effective. Voodoo no doubt has to be in pain from #deathbykettlebells. Bushwood was rocking the normal sombrero. #FOF – what is that? Sounds like a Swedish showering tool. I digress…Same time/place next week. The SOFAWIB numbers will quickly climb and with it, Kirk’s royalty checks.

I do have soccer arms. After 1-7 on the escalator for pull-ups, my arms totally refuseniked the pull-ups. I crushed the merkins with poor form, though.

That had to be the most random playlist ever. But, honestly, it worked. T-claps to #DJ Sundancer. He is clearly upping his game.

Swiper was all over the #BuddyBench. #FOF

#Cobains again, my SOFAWIB brothers. My little (blood) brother is in town and is a bad influence. I stayed up too late, drinking too many libations while watching Virginia Tech get crushed by Ohio State. I was hoping there was some way both teams could lose, but I’ll take a Hokies loss any day of the week. I’m glad to see Sundancer made the wise choice and got to bed early to make the workout. In all seriousness, I give VT credit for looking good until their QB went down in the third quarter. You hate to see someone get hurt out there.

I’ll see you boys next week for the #repat and the beginnings of Mud Run prep.

PS – nice work by Swiper and Kirk at the KB/tire station yesterday. It was a surprisingly brutal set. Based on his comments on the convergence BB, it sounds like I’ll need to kidnap Bushwood and take him to a KB workout one of these days. I’m sure I can find some meatheads to help me out.

I agree that those were some pretty terrible helmets. And that is a sweet golf hat tan. However, VT shouldn’t be throwing any stones (pun intended): http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2013/9/26/4772770/virginia-tech-hokie-stone-helmets-georgia-tech-throwback-uniforms

Always love me some SOFA WIB. And agree that we did mail it in today on the opening mile. Swiper above 6 mins = mailing it in.

I will say though it was nice for a change to not completely shoot the wad on the opener. Typically i’m 2 mins+ slower on the closing mile. Only 19 secs difference this time. #veteranmove

I think we made up for it with our effort on the escalator. #FOF

For the record, the unnamed pax hurling was in the fetal position for a while by the buddy bench #whoneedsahug

The grass was cool and soothing. The Buddy Bench understands and doesn’t judge.

Everyone’s talking about mailing it in, but Kirk can’t enunciate basic verbiage and I’m puking in someone’s yard. #ISI
The Amazing Bongo Band/Run The Jewels/Phish combo is some real Music Appreciation 401 type stuff.
