I don’t Q much and therefore tend to forget to post backblasts. So here goes, a week late.
5 men posted for an Ironsides-led WAMRAP last Wednesday.
I only have one goal at WAMRAP – not to get lapped. Fail.
The thing..
Mosey from launch to the shorter, cleaner, rougher-on-the-soft-hands parking deck. (Good thing Bypass couldn’t make it)
Stairs to the top for 4 corners of pain:
Corner 1 – 5 burpees, 10 LBCs; Corner 2- 10 merkins, 10 Peter Parker; Corner 3 – 10 jump squats, 10 IW; Corner 4 – 10 donkey kicks, 10 boots-to-heaven.
Run down the ramp to level 2, back up the stairs to level 3, and repeat, adding 1 burpee and 2 of everything else each round with max reps of 10 burpees and 20 everything else.
Alf and McGee made 7 rounds, the rest of us 6, plus a lightning round of 5 reps of each exercise.
Rep Count: Alf/McGee 55 burpees, 115 everything else; Spare Parts/Mile High/YHC: 45 and 95.
Prohibition didn’t show up.
… and Wednesday is almost here.
Imagine a world where concepts like logic and reason hold sway. Then remember that it’s 2020 and this week has a forecasted hurricane, ends with Halloween, a blue moon (not the beer), and a time change. And next week election day is on a Tuesday, and the results will be broadcast all over God’s green Earth on a, yep you guessed it … Wednesday.
Then imagine that no matter what happened on any given Monday or Wednesday you find your body driven by muscle memory alone, posting and repeating the same workout again, and again, and again. 250 swings minimum, over and over again. Surely, there must be moments of joy, you say. Of course. It’s not all bad.
Sometimes you get called Shirley.
Nobody likes Wednesday. Sure we all claim Monday is the worst, but really it’s Wednesday. The halfway point of the week. Day three of the hostage situation called “work”. In the folk rhyme Solomon Grundy, he got married on a “a grey and grisly Wednesday”. Take Wednesday Addams, bet you never saw her smile and why should she? “Wednesday’s child is full of woe”. Even Winnie the Pooh went so far as to characterize terrible weather as “Winds-Day”.
Again you say, “But Shirley, there must be moments of joy.” Of course, there is. It’s called Meathead, and if the Q is worth their weight in Jello chocolate pudding they bring a kick-ass playlist. And a good Q, takes requests or at least knows his audience.
YHC will have the keys for a Wacky Wednesday Meathead workout. Expect the unexpected, this thing will go off the rails, like Men’s Warehouse and their recent bankruptcy. I guarantee it.
Here’s a run-down of what’s in the plan:
5 cleans per side
Two-handed swing x 15, 2 handed OH Press x 5
Two-handed swing x 20, renegade row x 5 per side
Two-handed swing x 15, two-handed clean to squat x 5
5 snatches per side
Expect to run through this at least 5 times, maybe 6 if we have time (spoiler alert: we will).
Carries and core work to follow. Who knows how this will get done. But it will be a smoker, don’t expect much rest. We’ll wait for the 6 to finish, but like a GoRuck challenge it pays to be a winner.
Speaking of smoking, let’s talk playlists. Through the miracles of the interwebs YHC has accumulated a playlist of songs off of smoking debut albums. Including Boston, Van Halen, Pearl Jam, The Who, Ramones, Clash, Black Crowes, U2, The Doors and a few others. Come for the workout stay for the music. Pretty sure Ickey Shuffle would love the opener, “Ice Cream Man”.
YHC will plan for 13, always a lucky number. And on this week, in 2020, on a Wednesday, we need all the luck we can get. The alternative here is just to go run at 0530 with those “other guys”. and no one expects a Meathead to run. That would be like expecting YHC to write a Horsehead-level backblast or something. Can you imagine that?
Just to be safe, YHC will pre-tag all the pax that we can assume will show.
#SYITG
Woke up ready to go at 430 but my stomach needed extra time to handle its business. Sprinted out of the door, drove through a red light (carefully) and arrived with 45 seconds to spare. The eye balls whenever I roll up in these costumes does not seem to bring joy to people. More people seem puzzled more than anything.
I’m a clown in the sense of trying to make those around me laugh. At least that’s my attempt when I’m in and out of costumes. (Insert being nude makes people laugh jokes). I had to google Dromedary and turns out it’s a one humped camel. Hmmmm…
3 Wise Men? Man i don’t know but it made sense in my head. I think it worked out just fine compared to all the boring workout attire everyone else was wearing. You aren’t focusing on being an idiot enough fellas…
Quick DiCCS given. Let’s roll….

MOLESKIN:
Another gorgeous morning and I’m stuck inside a hot, hot costume. Maybe less dresses next year and more skirts? Ice9 was asking me about my level of comfort wearing a dress and I would rate it, on a scale of 1 to 10, as “grossly more confident”. It’s not the first time I’ve dressed like a lady and certainly won’t be last. I learned it from my dad and the legacy must live on…
I’m going to continue to focus on Ice9 since he runs out front like he’s late for something every workout. Sometimes into oncoming traffic regardless of safety but you can’t knock the guys hustle. When he shows up, he leaves it all out there and sometimes it’s last night chicken casserole that is left behind. Are you even “Ice9-ing” bro?
I believe he’s posted more in Waxhaw now than in the last 2 years I have been here. He loves working out with his dudes up north but I think he’s finally come around to our sarcasm/stupidity. Maybe that’s wishful thinking but more importantly…
What is happening with the way Ice9 does Name-o-Rama? Kurt Myers. Ice9. 49. Nope. Are we, Waxhaw, alone in the fact this makes zero logical sense? I am usually gasping for air by the time we are back to COT and I’m supposed to remember to say the nickname in-between and not his age? Nah son. This has got to stop. Pass it on.
Thanks for letting me lead again fellas. We are at the halfway mark and I’m so scared for my body for the next 3 posts. Kill me now.

CHOO CHOOOOOOOOO!
Wednesday, it’s a paradox where the Bermuda Triangle is real, not located in Bermuda, and not shaped like a triangle. Maybe shaped more like a dilapidated 1975 Chrysler New Yorker, but it tastes like a chicken strip. You know, the $8CAD type. Anyone who says they got lost in the Bermuda Triangle probably has a bridge in Brooklyn to sell. No one gets lost in the Bermuda Triangle, they know exactly where they are, they just don’t know how to get out. Not unlike this backblast, you know where you are, just not why you’re reading this now and how you unread any of it.
Back to hump day. It’s the middle of the week, and chances are the only humping any of you are seeing on a Wednesday is the word “hump” on the screen. Camels have humps, though. YHC saw that in a Geico commercial once. YHC also applied for a job at the camel’s office for the sole purpose of trying to outspit the camel. Didn’t make it past the first round of interviews though, YHC hit a tough spot in an interview with a Mustard Tiger who kept asking YHC, “What are you staring at my gut fer?” YHC wasn’t staring, that would be rude. YHC later offered said Mustard Tiger a cheeseburger from the famous Restaurant at the End of the Universe and in return received the secret to life, the universe and everything. Spoiler alert: it’s Col. Mustard in the penthouse with a copy of your grandaddy’s Sports Illustrated autographed by Ted Williams. that’s it, that’s the secret.
Back to the matter at hand, some number of pax (still to be counted) will undoubtedly claim they posted at this week’s edition of Meathead. Slightly overcast, temps in the low 60’s, no rain until later. Perfect fall weather. That’s what the little screen told YHC at least, and it always tells YHC the truth that YHC wants to see. You see, YHC has a plan. It was hatched out of a Simpler Times Lager-induced fever dream, so you know the plan is as good as Trader Joes over-engineered in-store shopping experience post-Covid. I mean, does anyone actually follow the arrows on the ground? and how do you navigate the produce section? it’s not all one-way aisles laid out in a neat grid with 0.19 bananas (or 0.25 if it’s organic).
But you know what they say, when you live in the piedmont, expect to see some wolves.
You know the thing about wolves? They are a model of efficiency under pressure and no-nonsense performers who gets the job done with style. They drive really fast, use language your mother wouldn’t approve of, and are who you call when you have questionable evidence to dispose of. In short, 100% reliable. And only wolves are allowed to refer to Chuck Norris as “Chucky”. How does YHC know this? because it was all documented on a GoRuck Tough Facebook post on a Wednesday. If you can tell me where the Green Bastard hails from, I’ll send you the link so you can see it for yourself.
That about sums up your Q for Meathead this week. A model of efficiency from a no-nonsense performer who has been known to drive at high speeds and always gets the job done in style. Can’t say YHC has ever lived to call Chuck Norris “Chucky”, but a man can dream right?
Speaking of dreams, YHC once released a debut album with his high school garage band, Mildred’s Favorite Donkey. Our hit single was big in Norway and the rhythm track was the sole influence behind Vanilla Ice’s biggest hit ever, Ninja Rap from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles soundtrack. Mildred’s Favorite Donkey later went on to collaborate on an unreleased Wu-Tang album that Pharma Bro, Martin Shkreli, paid $1mm for. Mildred’s Favorite Donkey was left out of the album credits, but YHC’s cut was paid out in wooden subway tokens. Because classics never go out of style and tube televisions are making a big comeback. Don’t tell the SEC, but that’s an insider trading tip, right there.
If YHC has learned one thing from all of this it’s that you can’t change the backblast, and you can’t unread what you just read, but you can change your vote in a presidential election after it was cast. According to the sitting president, of course. And he’s like the internet, and the little screen that tells YHC everything. All you read and wear and see and hear on his twitter feed is always true … on a Wednesday.

And for my 52nd Q, awwww who gives a sh!t anymore. Should people be proud of the number times they have Q’d, number of pounds they have lost or even the number of times they have posted? The answer is emphatically NOOOO!
Coming up with a costume based on the site name wasn’t very easy. Do I dress as a tall building, do I stand guard outside the tower with a rifle in my hand or do I just chalk this up as a loss and do nothing.
Like we are always saying, you are only as good as your last post. But then it got me thinking that you will never be as good as someone who is an actual Prince. And you can quote me on that. So it seemed only right that I dress as an actual buffoon. And boy did I…
DiCCS given and we are off!! Another small soapbox moment encouraging proper form and interestingly enough it’s in one ear and out the other for most PAX.
Take note, both guys in the front and the back, your form sucks on squats, burpees and Merkins. Please look to get that ass down, full jump w/ clap overhead and getting that back straight with the core engaged on each of the previously mentioned exercises.
THE THANG
Mosey down along street and circle up at flag pole for:
20 x SSH IC
10 x Imperial Walker IC
Jimmy Dugan
Calf Stretch
Yoga
Leg stretch
Let’s are crushed from the Webb’s so let’s mosey to the neighborhood.
OYO. Every 2 driveways on the right, alternate between 10 x Speedskaters and 10 x Bobby Hurley. Stop at next street and Mosey back for the 6. Regroup at intersection.
Rinse and repeat. OYO. Every 2 driveways on the right, alternate between 10 x Monkey Humpers and 10 x Merkins. Stop at next street and Mosey back for the 6. Regroup at intersection.
Rinse and repeat. OYO. Every 2 driveways on the right, alternate between 10 x Lunges and 20 x LBCs. Stop at next street and Mosey back for the 6. Regroup at intersection.
Wall sits with a smattering of boxing, air press, toe lifts and heel raises. Thigh are burning like a mofo…
Mosey to big lot for 4 corners. 2 laps. 2 corners do 5 x burpees and the 2 corners 20 x LBCs.
A few minutes left so we knocked out round 9 of the still unfinished Webb’s from yesterday. 15 seconds of have a nice day.
MOLESKIN
3mi and a smattering if exercises. As you guessed it, tomorrow we will complete round 10 of both those Webb’s, do you don’t want to miss that. What can be said about this mornings workout that wasn’t already said in the Playhouse.
My plan worked but was my heart into it? No. At no point did I feel one with my costume and damn that thing was hot. Honestly not having my accountability partner there was a big hit to the ego. Not only is he a site Q but periodically he body shames me to ensure I will be posting at a workout soon. What can I say about Easy Button that hasn’t already been said…
He’s a piece of crap. Not the first time I’ve said that but the first time I’ve typed it. I usually hand write it into my diary but this is a good step. Is this what Glidah means when he wants me to step out of my comfort zone? I’m FREED TO LEAD!!??!
Another day in the books and the soreness will continue to become even more unbearable. Only 4 Qs left…(insert Ice9 dry heaving sounds!!). See you all tomorrow.
Thank you Chastain for taking us out

Well, thanks Teddy for screwing the pooch there!!!
A handful of the Bushwood faithful decided late Sunday night to help christen a new AO (Firestarter) to some local neighbors with SOB. YHC had already made up his mind as to what his wienke was gonna be prior to that bootcamp, but saw the SOB Q at SOB must have had a covert op to sabotage the following day. QIC was definitely sore, but after some quick discussion with the pax decided to say “It’s so nice, I wanna do the same thing twice!” (Credit-Somewhat: Sublimes Bradley Nowell-Boss DJ)
We do a lot of plyometrics and just tad bit of running normally, QIC wanted to switch it up and go with full weight train. So, rest up fellas, all coupon work coming your way.
I rolled in a bit early and sat in the car with the seat warmer on trying to loosen up a tight back, pax started rolling in a joking around as usual… We had a new FNG come in that had gone to a Saturday workout with J-Wow and Shop-Dog, but hadn’t been named. Little did Isaac know, the last few Pax named Bushwood may have regretted it, including yours truly (thanks One-Star). So this helped as we all had something to look forward to.
Had the Pax do a little pre-stretch and we were ready to roll.
Warmup:
Quick Mosey to the back 9:
18 IC as per bushwood standards: SSH/IW/Peter Parkers, Up-Down Dog/Calf Stretch
Thang:
QIC said this was gonna be a weight workout, so head to the coupon pile and grab “your rock” for a full workout
Pair up: exercise with coupon, the other runs a lap 5 merkins at halfway
Time flies when having fun, Right? Well, some nice tunes helped keep things moving, but we had to audible as time was running out. Some Pax modified the last three to an extent as QIC yelled out to finish what they were on and blast through a couple of the other before heading back to COT. Good thing the 5 Merkins were forgotten in the instructions, otherwise we probably would have finished less. Pretty sure no one decided to venture to the Hernias, but did see a few shrugs and rows as they are not ones we do very often. Have to even out muscle groups.
With time coming to an end, replaced coupons, and mosey back to COT with some LBC’s for the 6.
Moleskin:
Weather is getting to that perfect mix for the outdoors, and always a treat to be out with good company. Was great to switch it up a little bit from the usual workouts. Had multiple PAX say they would like to include more weight training in, well I’m your Huckleberry there anytime. We did not neglect the running tho, we hit just over 2.5 miles staying in one place and likely would have had a lot more had we finished. Was told we may have to wrap this one up at the Body Shop at a later date.
FNG: Isaac Cordero 39 (Judge Smails) comes to us from El Paso, Texas originally and is a colleague of Dredd, He had had been asked to come out for 9 months, but said he kept making excuses, but is now glad he came out. He is one of 8 kids, (insert Mormon/Irish Catholic joke here) and the Bushwood crew has been patiently waiting for an Attorney/Prosecutor to be named at MES to fill the vacant Judge Smails namesake. sorry all the female names are take Isaac (hey Lacey Underalls is still available i believe), but welcome aboard.

PEACE!
Eight pax gathered to start the week off on the right note, by swinging iron and celebrating the music of America’s greatest rock and roll band, Van Halen. This was YHC’s first Q since Eddie Van Halen passed away earlier this month, so I wanted to pay tribute to the band that has provided the soundtrack to many of life’s best moments. The playlist consisted of YHC’s favorite song from each of the band’s studio albums. Live albums, best of albums, and one offs from movie soundtracks were omitted.
The warmup was basically ceremonial and lackadaisical due to the Q’s general indifference to warming up. We jumped in to the main event consisting of sets of 20, 15, 10, and 5 swings paired with merkins, then deadlifts, then curls, then triceps extensions, then weighted crunches. Some various core exercises were interspersed to break up the rounds. Following five rounds, we had completed the requisite 250 swings, but since you can find an extra gear and do anything while listening to Van Halen, we did an extra 50 swings. I hope Eddie would’ve liked that. Next was three rounds of goblet squats and clean and presses. Some weighted carries and bonus swings were enough to get us to 6:15 without having to do the dreaded elbow plank and hollow body hold.
If it seems like YHC rushed through the portion of the backblast about the workout, then that is correct. I really just want to write about Van Halen, my favorite band and one who’s music has brought me massive amounts of joy throughout my life. I remember the first time I heard a Van Halen song like it was yesterday, even though it was in 1984 and I was about six years old. It was a Sunday morning and I was watching a music video weekly countdown show on broadcast TV (we didn’t yet have cable). The video for Jump came on and it was like nothing I had ever heard. From that moment on I was hooked and would devour everything the band ever recorded. In junior high and high school my pregame hype music was Van Halen. When I got my driver’s license the first CDs I played in the car were Van Halen. You can hit 90 mph in a Toyota Tercel when Panama comes through the speakers. The morning of my wedding I played Van Halen II a couple times through. I think we all have that band or singer that resonates with us for some reason and sets off a tuning fork in our souls. It’s incredibly sad that Eddie is gone, but any opportunity to celebrate the music left behind makes for a good day. Rest in peace Eddie, and thanks for everything.
Playlist:
Runnin’ with the Devil (Van Halen I)
Dance the Night Away (Van Halen II)
Take Your Whiskey Home (Women and Children First)
