We kind of had a FNG (Return of Golden Plates v2)

We kind of had a FNG (Return of Golden Plates v2)

16 Pax showed up for my VQ at Chiseled today.  After very little prodding I was able to get a few Pax to attend that do not normally attend Chiseled so that was great…appreciate the support

Warm Up

Mosey up to the entrance on Cuthbertson Rd then back to COT, doing butt kickers the last 1/4.

Then some quick warm up exercises in cadence:

  • Side straddle hop
  • Potato pickers
  • Merkins
  • Calf stretch (didn’t hear Damascus moaning so he must have been fartsacking)
  • Runner stretches

The Thang

Walked over to Mt. Chiseled with our coupon (rifle carry), partnered up with someone with different abilities and performed the following with a run around Mt Chiseled as the timer:

  • Curls w/coupon
  • Speedskaters w/bricks
  • Dry docks
  • Low slow squats w/coupon
  • Chest presses w/coupon
  • American hammers w/bricks
  • Lunges w/bricks
  • Derkins
  • Step ups
  • Shoulder taps
  • Continue until 6 caught up and there were 8 min left

Walk back to COT with coupon (rifle carry) to finish with a few more exercises:

  • Moroccan night clubs
  • Heels to heaven
  • LBC’s
  • Flutters
  • Fuse Box’s version of a ½ burpee
  • Draper’s chest presses

Moleskin

No Vups or Blockees which didn’t go well with Doughboy.  Not a hard workout, easy to understand but it’s what we all put into it.  None of us get up to work out at 5:30am to dog it and that was clear today.  069 enjoyed it so much he was still doing curls after everyone left 5 stones.  Also thanks to Golden Plates for the music.

Announcements

  • Happy Hour tonight, 5-7pm, at Lawson pool parking lot new side.  BYOB
  • Q-school 3/6, 6:30am @ Cuthbertson MS
  • Rooster 3/13 starts at 6am in Rock Hill. SIGN UP on GM

  • Mention for my niece/goddaughter Lauren in the prayer

Am I supposed to be counting?

About 30 reps into the burpee hill repeats, Rousey posed the question to his partner “Am I supposed to be counting?!?” and I nearly lost it in laughter. With sore legs and shoulders from leading the charge at Bagpipe, it only made sense to do more leg and upper body work. Here’s how it went down:

  • Warmup: Side to side, butt kicks, high knees around the parking lot, 20 SSH’s, 20 imperial walkers, 10 mountain climbers, 10 merkins, 10 flutter, 10 doll
  • Mosey down the horn to rock pile: 15 plank jacks at stop sign. Partner 1: Complete 20 of each called exercise (Curls, Bent Over Row, Overhead Press) while Partner 2 runs to stop sign and back
  • Time to run back up the horn: With partner, complete 100 reps between mountain climbers and freddy mercuries, plank at the top
  • Here’s where the fun really began – repeats on the hill by parking lot: with partner complete 50 burpees, 100 jump squats, 100 merkins. Circle up for 35 LBC’s
  • Grab a seat at the theater: Each pax calls 10 count of single exercise while sitting on the wall

TIME!

Chatter of Mumble

  • Respect to MC, PP and Rousey for doubling down after Bagpipe yesterday. Hope you got your money’s worth between these two workouts! Instead of doubling down today, Tagalong is saving his energy for Friday
  • Speaking of Rousey, your energy is fantastic! From hijacking the 10-count from Wingman (his expression was priceless) to your comment during burpee hill repeats – your energy is endless and contagious. You bring the pep to our collective step, don’t dial that energy back. As for the cadence counting and exicon knowledge, that will come in due time.
  • Great to see the some of the garage band crew out on the streets. Commish and Twister, great to see you out again in the gloom. Maybe Strange Brew will soon make his triumphant return
  • Jerry World, love how you’ve jumped right into these workouts head first. Keep coming out, and definitely check out Bagpipe on Tuesdays as well. Impressed that you were at the front for most of the work and able to keep Mic Check honest
  • Mic Check you have a knack for bringing up the young bucks and challenging us to dig deeper
  • Appreciate you Brexit for making the trek to SOB land
  • Solid conversation with you Jazz Hands after CoT. Brings me great joy to connect with other dads in the thick of raising little ones.
  • Wingman called me a SOB, and I receive that as a great compliment!
  • Patent Pending called me his personal trainer, which I will also take as a compliment
  • Grateful for you as brothers and friends!

Announcements

  • Roof Above home welcome kits. $/item collection will start soon. More details forthcoming to simplify the giving process. Lots of homeless friends in our Charlotte neighborhood that are making the transition to longer-term housing.
  • Soft Pretzel on Q at Nightmare on Elm
  • YHC took us into the day with prayer

Until next time

Field Trip!

Took the 11 Pax that made the intentional choice to post at Dromedary today on a field trip to Rosecliff. Warned everyone the night before in GroupMe but they still showed up and groaned when I confirmed we would be doing a little bit of running. It wasn’t “that bad” as we just reached 3 miles. According to my Strava that’s 26:30 total running time and 18:30 of exercise. None of the exercises we did were particularly difficult but we did get in some reps.

Warmorama:

Mosey through the parking lot from COT and see Das Boot rolling in a minute or so late. We circle back about halfway through the lot and do 15 X SSH to let Das Boot catch up. Continue our mosey around the front of campus and stop at the globe for some IW X 15, Stretching and then end it with Moroccan Nightclubs. Take a moment to explain what we’ll be doing so as not to upset the residents of Rosecliff and we mosey to the culdesac for…

Thang:

Paula Abdul using the street lights. We did 15 X Merkin on the 2 up and did 15 X squats on the 1 back.

Arrived at the last light and started doing 15 X BBSU at each street light on the way back and then audibled to 10 after I checked my watch for time thinking we wouldn’t make it back.

Took the long mosey back to COT stopping at the street lights in front of campus for 1 X Burpee and made back to COT for 3 minutes of Mary.

Shake called 50 Heels to Heaven (Lesson Learned), Posse called out LBC’s for a reasonable amount (25). Shop Dog with 10 X Superman’s and then time was called.

Done!

Announcements:

Das Boot demonstrated the Pecker Pounder, J. Lo and the A-Rod for us so we would all know what it was. The A-rod is a combination of J. Lo and Pecker Pounder for those who weren’t there or didn’t know already. If you still don’t know then ask Das Boot to demonstrate and he will happily oblige, I’m sure.

Q School on Saturday, March 6th. You need to go.

Rooster – Saturday, March 13th. Sign up in the GroupMe calendar Teams of 5 for a rotating marathon relay. Each participant runs 6 miles total but only run 1 mile at a time until the last mile which is together as a group.

YHC took us out with prayer.

Happy trails to you

Some guys got some miles on some trails.

There was mud involved.

The End.

1st Anyul Bushwud Spellin’ Bee

18 PAX saw the forecast of mid- to high-60s today and headed out early to start their day at Bushwood Country Club.  The only problem was that it was still 32 degrees at 0530.

WARM-UP

Mosey to the larger parking lot…

  • Motivator x 9 IC
  • Much-needed calf stretches after the Motivator

THE THANG

Mosey to the playground and pair up.  One partner does one exercise while the other runs a lap on the track.  Partner does the exercise.  Move on to next exercise.

  1. Swerkins
  2. Pull-ups
  3. LBCs Incline merkins on the Geodesic Dome

Repeato twice for a total of 18 holes between the team

Leave the playground and grab a lifting rock for the Spelling Bee!

  • Go around the circle of 12 PAX and spell each guy’s F3 name by moving the rock in front of you as the PAX spells out his nickname
  • After every 4 PAX, run a short lap

Hurry back to COT for AROD x 9 IC (J-Lo + the beloved Pickle Pounder)

MOLESKINE

Much like many of YHC’s rounds of golf, today’s turn at Bushwood got off to an auspicious start.  YHC learned the Motivator from a Long Island vWorkout in the Zoom a few weeks back and it’s still taking some time to break in.  Q needs more practice, so it should be on the weinke for the next one.  It’s a little tricky, but the PAX had fun with it and there were some solid imitations of Kriss Kross and “Jump Around!”  Not sure Firethorne or other local clubs allow that kind of frivolity.  The Motivator lasts a good minute and some wondered if it had lasted about 42 and, frankly, it feels like it does at times.  The calf stretch was a little longer than planned afterwards.

On to the round… did you know that mulch can freeze and ice over?  We learned that it can today.  Swerkins on icy ground can be tricky.  Also, the track at Bushwood is dark.  And puddles seem to grow, expanding and getting deeper after each lap.

But what everyone raves about… the Spelling Bee!  The idea derived from yet another butchered Slackblast on Monday where someone in SOB couldn’t figure out what Tonyateen Tanyteam Tinyteen TeeTime TT’s name was or how it was spelled.  Why not go to the source?  The guy who has to answer to it.  The goal was to see how he spells it.  After about 2 PAX it became evident that spelling at 0600 was going to be a chore more than we could handle.  Big Ben was nice enough early on to go with “BB” and Taco Stand followed suit with “Taco.”  J-Woww didn’t bother with the dash, and then Swift got creative with a lowercase “i with the dot.”  Then the trouble began.  Smugglr Smuggler skipped the “e” and then told the PAX to erase the “r” and make it “er.”  FNG stepped in without missing a beat to call “FNG” even though his hospital name is shorter and The Juice went all in to include “The.” And then the moment YHC was waiting for:

“T-A-N-Y-N- oh, wait! no ‘N’ A-T-I-N-E”

Presumably, it’s Tanyatine, but even he has trouble with it.

We made it through all 12 guys just in time to return the rocks (thankfully, Sledge-o-matic was with the MASH crew today) and mosey back to COT for the AROD — the PAX love the burn of the Pickle Pounder to finish the workout.

Props to Fiji for bringing out the FNG.  He’s from SoCal and was happy to hear that there’s already a Trojan in the area so he wasn’t going to get that name.  There was debate around Ken Doll and Waterboy and YHC has continued with that struggle throughout the day.  Big Ben noted that he lives off the 11th hole at Firethorne and there’s always a cooler out back for guys to pick up a mid-round adult beverage and the sound of the story is a good one, so we welcome Waterboy.

6 PAX did MASH but when we came around from the other side of the school, they were all just lying on the ground stretching, so there is zero indication that they used cinderblocks and bricks for anything other than decoration.  Maybe there will be a BB from the group?

Sharing The Load

Asked to substi-Q yesterday as the planned Q needed some R&R, rather than trying to shoulder the burden on my own (not that it is much of a burden) I went the other way and asked for help. Enlisting my 2.0s and neighbor Dwight I asked each to cover just 5 or 10 minutes. Reluctantly, some more than others, they accepted the task. All had attended Q school, but now we’ll see if they were paying attention. I won’t call this their VQ (no such thing as a triple VQ right!), but it did give them a little taste, I hope preparing them for the full entree. #swidt

DISCC

Warm Up

SSH x20, then jumped right into the theme of the evening, sharing the load. Inspired by the Wolf lead beatdown on a recent rainy Saturday (feels like 27 degrees), I explain that I’d start off counting 1-2-3, Pax “1”, 1-2-3, Pax “2”, then move to the next person (Fusebox) who’ll count 1-2-3, Pax “3”, 1-2-3, Pax “4”, and we continue to the next person, up to “10”. We did SSH, LSS, IW, Merkin & MC. Despite so many young kids and FNGs, it went impressively well (at least compared to the seasoned PAX on that Saturday morning).

The Thang

I turn over the lead to Johnny5 who takes us to the rock pile. Adults grab a partner and a rock, kids grab a partner. One partner does burpees (adults use their rock) while the other partner runs down the road to the first cone, then back. This continues until each pair does 50 burpees. Rock’s team won for the kids (not that surprising, he’s growing into his name). Overall it was pretty awful and we’re better for it, thank you Johnny5.

Dwight, lead us to the basketball court. Everyone claim a space and we get into position for a Dwight lead ab attack. Dwight’s been a regular at the Appetizer & DaVinci for a few months now, and apparently he wants a washboard by summer. He impressively lead a lot more reps than many of us wanted to do. I think it was BigBoys, H2H, LBC, Merkin, Freddie Mercury.

Next up YHC.  Everyone into a groups of 3, and do a circuit of P1: run a lap, P2: squat to pull-up, P3: grab sides of swing, and lean back and use arms to pull yourself up in rowing motion. Two rounds of that, and it got pretty messy with the various teams. Well at least the younger kids had fun in the playground.

Finally T1000 took over and we continued in groups of three, P1: run lap, P2: bear crawl, P3: ab exercise OYO. This is when it really got messy with PAX bear crawling in all directions, and a hodgepodge of ab work being done. Those who were hungry for more pushed themselves and most of the kids were just having fun.

We were running low on time so I called everyone in for 30 seconds of side planking. We finished the 30, which was probably 40 thanks to Twinkle Toes really slow counting (at least it felt that way), and oh the mumblechatter when I said now to the other side. Who wants to do side planks with just one side?!  Hate me if you wish, I apologize for nothing.

About 5 minutes left we’re off to COT for the final minutes of Mary, Peter Parker and more.  We circle up, and finish the way we started. I called out Tumbleweed to carry the cadence and she shouted it out with ease and continues on to her 1.0 Trickle. We got in some Peter Parkers, Big Boys, Flutters, and a couple others before we wrapped up with about 30 seconds of more planking and finished with Have A Nice Day (modify as needed).

Moleskin

To be honest it was a fairly sloppy Q, as you might expect with so much VQ-ing. And it wasn’t as fun as many earlier workouts (Fusebox set the bar high 2 weeks ago). But I was happy to see how well the kids handled the pressure of calling the cadence when it was their turn. We got in some reps, and knocked out some burpees and bear crawls and pushed ourselves just a little with some 2.0s taking it all in.  As usual it was good to see the regulars keeping at it, and the new faces seeing what the Appetizer has to offer (this was just a sample).  Come back in future weeks and you’ll see we have quite the variety – not to mention some Clyent Dinner style 2nd Fs on the horizon.

Announcements

– Book collecting (any book, for young or old) for Tumbleweed’s book collection. Can bring to the Appetizer, or anywhere you see Trickle (Tumbleweed’s dad)

– Welcome Home Kits, plan to donate financially or with variety of household basics to build a kit given to the recently homeless settling into a new home. More details to come, but the target is for each AO to fill at least one kit (total value roughly $300)

– Welcome FNGs: Overdraft (brought by Magi), Girltano (2.0), Tangled (2.0), Fancy Nancy (2.0) and Black Beauty (2.0)

– As stated by my eloquent Co-Q High Hat, it’s great to see so many PAX taking their kids out enjoying this time together and taking advantage of the opportunity offered at this AO and also at Clyent Dinner. It lifts our spirts and is a great way to end a day that might not have been so great until coming to an F3 workout with your brothers and their 2.0s.

Bagpipe Bridge Ices Before Road

2 cinder blocks and 7 PAX emerged from the fartsack to begin at 0530 sharp to kick off another day in Bagpipe Paradise. Two latecomers arrived on the scene and emphasized their readiness to begin, despite being late (Frehley’s and Kirby). Match up with someone in similar gait/strength/tenacity for rock-paper-scissors. Split up into two teams, winners on one, losers on the other. Brief disclaimer before we’re off. Two rules for the remainder of the workout:

  1. You must stick with your team while completing called exercises
  2. One member of the team must always be carrying a cinder block

Warmup

  • stay at launch for 5 burpees
  • mosey to hotel parking lot for 10 mountain climbers
  • mosey to bridge over river for 15 squats (ICE!)
  • mosey to Lance’s parking lot for 20 merkins

Main Event: Capture the Flag Cone

  • Set up three stations between parking lot and wall on other side
  • Each pax must complete exercises at each station with cinder block before proceeding to next station
  • Teams must communicate and share the cinder block
  • Upon finishing the final station, sprint back to other end of parking lot. Last team mate in grabs the cone. First team to grab the cone wins the round!
  • Stated Exercises at each Cone
    • 5 burpees (40 total)
    • 20 squats (480 total)
    • 15 mountain climbers (120 total)
    • 20 squats
    • 20 merkins (160 total)
    • 20 squats
  • After reach round winning team completes exercise, losing team completes exercise
    • Round 1 Winners: Wall sit and 20 shoulder presses
    • Round 1 Losers: Balls to the wall until winning team is done with shoulder presses
    • Round 2 Winners: 10 Mike Tysons
    • Round 2 Losers: 20 Donkey Kicks
    • Round 3 Winners: Mosey to collect cones
    • Round 3 Losers: 10 big boy situps

Mosey back to launch, al gore after Einstein’s and lunge walk back to my car, where the cinder blocks were returned, despite overwhelming desire among pax to shatter my windows in response to the workout

T-claps/Truth Nuggets

  • Despite pre-running the route to set up the cones, there was ice over the bridge. Grateful that no one had a slip and tumble, particularly while carrying cinder blocks. I definitely did not include this in my disclaimer
  • Solid work by Team 1 – Cooter, Sweetwater, Tagalong, Frehley’s, and Kirby (Round 1) who swept with 3 wins to none for Team 2 (YHC, Rousey, Mic Check, PP, Kirby (Round 2+3)
  • At one point Sweetwater was shirtless knocking out the exercises, this was obviously the key to Team 1’s success
  • Loved the friendly competition and friendlier banter, particularly when Mic Check and Frehley’s were going at it after the first round. There were accusations of cheating, until Frehley’s realized that his team had won the round
  • Very impressed by Kirby’s active leadership throughout the competition, he really directed the pax on both sides to communicate and collaborate
  • We ended with a total of 40 burpees, 480 squats (!!), 120 mountain climbers, 160 merkins and 2 miles running in 45 minutes. That’s some impressive efficiency and speaks to how we bring out the best in each other and challenge each other to push in a way we would not do on our own
  • I brought out the cinder block to not only add weight to the workout, but to share an object lesson just before COT. The cinder block represents the anxieties, the pressures, the struggles that we shoulder as broken men in a fallen world. Too often I believe the lie that I need to carry these weights alone rather than acknowledging them and graciously inviting others to carry them with me. I fall into the trap of believing I’m the only one carrying such a weight. When in reality, every man I surround myself with is facing similar, albeit different struggles. Just as the key to success in the Capture the Cone challenge was proactive communication, we succeed as men when we acknowledge our struggles and invite others into them in a gracious and loving way. Through sharing the block, we acknowledge that we are not alone. We acknowledge that we cannot tackle our challenges alone. The block becomes an opportunity to lead, to serve and to be served. We follow the example of the greatest servant who carried the ultimate weight so that we might be freed to lead, and freed to serve. This is the way
  • Thank you Soft Pretzel for offering a conversation and time together after sharing about my recent challenges
  • Always grateful for the opportunity to lead Cooter2

Rusty & Dusty

The backblast title describes both my lone 35 lb. kettlebell and my tired, 48-year old frame.  Despite those undeniable facts, Horsehead and Stone Cold still tapped me to Q Area 51’s oldest workout — affectionately known as Skunkworks.  Horsehead was so confident in YHC that he reminded me where the Skunk pax parking lot was….which is, indeed, a new location from the last time I posted there….3 years ago?  4 years?

A hearty pax of 17 mustered for the Tuesday morning downpainment in the south Charlotte gloom, 16 of which arrived before YHC.  What?!  The Q was LIFO?!  I think I had the longest drive….

Anyway, after a weak disclaimer that did include a reference to the legalese on the website, we launched with 16 veteran pax and 1 FNG — the soon-to-be named Skeletor (EH’d by Madison – T-claps!!!).

Below will be a rambling reminiscence of the proceedings with color commentary, aka “The Thang & Ye Olde Moleskine”:

Can’t remember who remarked on my KB as looking beleaguered, but he was right.  It looks like it’s got more miles on it than it does.  Kind of like when dudes buy old looking John Deere or IH hats so folks think they’re tough, country, etc.  Don’t try to fake it men.  That doesn’t work in any arena of life.

Speaking of country – had no idea Stone Cold was from the rural suburbs of Salisbury, NC!  That’s scenic Rowan County for those of you paying attention.  He did not attend high school with David Whisenant of WBTV.  If they don’t erect a statue to that Whisnenant cat in downtown Salisbury, it will be a travesty of justice and history.

So we moseyed a few lots over from the launch lot with KB’s racked.  Is that how you say it?  Not entirely sure that’s what we did.

Warmup lap without the KB, of course.  Don’t EVER run with a KB.  If the Q calls it – you are a Refusenik at that point.  With the running, some pax were already grumbling.  What?  Running?  WTH?

Circle up for the 2 or 3 KB exercises that YHC remembers: Swings, one-arm swings, upright row, renegade row.  Also called Louganis, Thrusters, goblet squats, etc.

COP did not include the KB’s, and some of the pax were really getting annoyed already.

Would have to lean on both Hoover & Stone Cold for KB ideas and tutorials during the proceedings.

We partnered up and P1 would run down/back about 50 yards (100 yards roundtrip) while P2 did the called exercise.

Circled back up for some Mary including flutter press and other sundry exercises.  Did this 2 or 3 times.

Ok – enough of The Thang.  No one reads this part anyway (or backblasts for that matter), and my lack of KB knowledge doesn’t provide much in the way of ideas for future Q’s anyway.

Speaking of future Q’s – Header or Victoria are on Q next week at the Skunk.  Horsehead wasn’t certain.

Victoria is an outstanding nickname, by the way.  The DBU grad? (made that assumption based sole on the DBU shirt he was wearing) seemed like a good sport about his nickname.  DBU is Dallas Baptist University, by the way.

Also, speaking of female nicknames – I informed Lois this morning that my maternal grandmother was named Lois. True story.  Tweetsie said he would refer to Lois as “Hops’ maw-maw” from now on.  Not sure how I feel about that?  Yes I am.  Don’t feel very good about it, frankly.

Ok…what else happened this morning?

  • As per my sources, this was MAD’s first post since the onset of Covid.  Glad to have you back out, brother.
  • Funky Cold was back out in the gloom for the first time in a while it sounded like?  Kotters?!  If not, Kotters to me then.  Ha!
  • Baracus still swings a 20 lb. KB aka a Christmas ornament
  • Chicken Wing hails from the same hometown as my college roommate.  East Aurora, NY = chicken wing capital of the world
  • Smokey liked the running part…he was the only one…except Whip who probably went home and lifted weights after YHC’s Q.
  • Cage…what can you say?  Silent, but gets it done.  T-claps.  If I’m even able to pickup a KB at 61, I’ll be thankful.
  • Lastly and most importantly – WELCOME SKELETOR.  Thankful Madison EH’d you (EH = Emotional Headlock).  Come back.  You’ll get stronger, and you’ll certainly have much better Q’s leading you.

Point of Personal Privilege:

  • F3 is still going on in Area51 (in our 10th year!) because men need that to which Madison invited Skeletor.  We all needed it when we were FNG’s, and we still need it.  God gave us all one body which we should take care of.  Why?  For vanity’s sake and obsession over weight, mile or 5K/10K  times, etc.?  No.  We take care of ourselves so that we can take care of others.
  • Take care of each other.  “Circling back for the 6” is not just a 1st F phenomena.  It’s 2nd F.  We need to be in community.  That’s how we were created.  And for anyone that tells you they don’t need encouragement and that he is fine flying solo –> he is lying and/or self-deceived; thus, you should intensify your EH efforts.
  • And what of 3rd F?  The Skunk pax, for the most part & likely more than most AO’s, understand its importance.  Every man ultimately knows there is something larger than life, greater than self and lasting forever.  Not every many pursues answers to the questions he has about purpose, destination, and living a life of significance.

Thankful for you, men.  I need F3 as much now as I did 9+ years ago.  Might also need some assistance from Whiplash after my first KB workout in 3-4 years.

Prayers:

  • Please continue to pray for peace for the Vaughn family (Steven aka Double Trouble of F3Metro died 2 weeks ago from Covid-related complications)
  • Skeletor – for God to lead him to a job that’s a great fit for he and his boys.

God is faithful.  Always.

Fondle

That’s a funny word. Today at Watchtower 14 PAX fondled some balls. Is it possible to fondle anything else? Anyways, thanks to Posse for loaning us his balls to fondle. In a SACK too!

Today’s Q was a bit different than the norm. I (accidently) signed myself up to Q 8 times this month so I needed something different. Knowing I was at Watchtower I’d already been thinking about a re-run of a Q that Foundation did a long while ago (back when he still posted with us). So after Posse pulled his balls out yesterday at Flash it gave me an idea for a variation of that Q.

Warmup

Mosey around the starting lot then circle up for some SSHs, Imperial Walkers, Moroccan Night Clubs, Calf Stretches (you’re welcome Damascus), Glidah Stretches, and finish with some Mountain Climbers.

The Thang

Mosey to the middle of the road in front of the school; even with the flag pole. Find a partner of equal(ish) speed and ability and line up across from each other on either side of the road. Now everyone on one side of the road is one team and everyone on the other side is another team. *sigh* of course we have an odd number. Oh well.

In the middle of the road, between the two teams is a basket full of balls. Each ball has an exercise, a number of reps, and how to count (in cadence or civilian count). At the far end of the road towards the bus lot are two buckets, one for each team.

Round 1:

  1. 10 minute timer
  2. On “Go” one PAX from each team will draw a random ball from the basket, call out the exercise and rep count to his team then do the exercise to the rep count OUT LOUD
  3. Upon completion:
    1. That PAX takes the ball and sprints to the bucket, drops it in and sprints back
    2. Remaining PAX from that team do the exercise to the rep count together OUT LOUD
  4. The next PAX may draw a ball from the basket only when:
    1. The previous PAX returns from their sprint
    2. Their team has completed the exercise as a whole
  5. Repeato until the timer ends
  6. The team with the most balls in their bucket wins

Mosey as a group to grab the buckets and back to the basket. Round 1 was a tie with 8 balls in each bucket. Return the buckets as a group back to their original locations.

Round 2:

Same rules as Round 1 except you choose which bucket you place the ball in depending on whether or not you “liked” the exercise. For example, if you drew “10 Burpees” you might want to place that in the other team’s bucket for the next round. Conversely, drawing 15 Side Straddle Hops might be a keeper so you place it in your bucket. 10 minute timer in effect.

No winner here as this was a set up for round 3. Mosey as a group down to the buckets to see who has what. One team has 6 balls in their bucket while the other team has 12! I didn’t expect it to be THAT uneven so I added a few balls at random to the bucket with 6 so there’d be enough to go around.

Round 3:

  1. No timer
  2. On “Go” one PAX from each team will draw a random ball from their bucket, call out the exercise and rep count to his team, then do the exercise to the rep count OUT LOUD
  3. Upon completion:
    1. That PAX drops the ball in the basket and sprints to the far end of the road near the COT parking lot
    2. Remaining PAX from that team do the exercise to the rep count together OUT LOUD
  4. The next PAX may draw a ball from their bucket as soon as their team has completed the exercise as a whole
  5. Repeato until all PAX reach the far end
  6. PAX at the far end do Mary until everyone has finished
  7. The team that gets all members to the other end first wins

Less than 3 minutes left we finished up with some Mary.

Moleskin

So who won today? Good question. It didn’t really matter which team won (though if it did matter it was my team). Instead, I wanted to give PAX a chance to count cadence OUT LOUD and lead some exercises. There are quite a few guys who’ve never Qed before or only a small number of times. I think part of that is because it’s a little scary to stand up in front of other PAX and show them what you know. Counting Cadence (for example) seems easy when you’re a follower. But suddenly, you’re standing in the middle of the circle and all eyes are on you and it’s tough to remember which hand goes where, how many reps you were doing, or what order numbers go in. Today each PAX got a chance to stand at the front of their team, call out an exercise, and then count OUT LOUD while doing the exercise. Other than some questionable form, the funniest looking Imperial Squat Walkers I’ve ever seen, and Fuse busting out some dance moves with his Peter Parkers, everyone did a good job. Hopefully, if you’re someone who’s been hiding in the shadows, nervous about your ability to lead, that gave you a bit of confidence that you can stand up in the front, count cadence and exercise, all at the same time!

The Thang

Ran from Chick to Wesley Oaks neighborhood. We started with five Burpee‘s at the entrance. We kept running through the neighborhood we approximately got in 3 1/2 miles and 40 Burpee‘s. We also made sure we stop by Flanders house and did Burpee‘s and monkey Humpers for his Ring door bell video . We also stop by Damascus’s house and share the love with him and gave him Burpee‘s and monkey Humpers. We missed those two guys… then we did running stretches … high knee …butt kickers … sprints back to COT to pick Fuse for the last 5 Burpees.

I turn the big 45 this week thank you to F3 and all the F3 brothers for pushing me forward and making me better this year. Thank you

Nice work to all men!!
