Moleskin from Pulp Fiction
Thanks to the whole group for enduring my VQ.  Kept it close to the launch point with not a lot of running today since that’s where I usually get smoked and end up in the back of the pack.  Thanks for the opportunity to lead.
Moleskin from Mermaid
Pulp Fiction stepped up and did an awesome job with his VQ.  Solid workout that was well balanced and challenging for all.  Kept the running to a minimum but my GPS had us at 2.25.  Not too shabby. Well done Pulp Fiction.
Strong Centurion crew out today.  Glad to see Checkpoint back out today after some time off to heal. Enjoyed hearing about how well Maverick is doing.  Jamboree and Abacus posting Centurion again. Like old times.  Champagne was either avoiding Bean’s Brave Q or woke up too late to make it.  YHC heard no form policing today.  #ISI.  Gerber posting regularly at Centurion.  Glad to have you with us.  Cameron Wood crew in full force working hard.  Hard to believe Utah was FNG last Tuesday.  6 posts in two weeks and he ran in and back with Cane and YHC.  Killing it.  Lambeau and Shake Weight pushing hard.  Site Q Escargot hitting his stride.  Site Q Chelms MIA today.  He assured me he had a good reason to miss the workout.  Heading to Columbia to help with the relief efforts tomorrow.  Hope to see some of you guys there.

The Kids Are Running Around Again

The kids showed up at 0515 (well most of them anyway), wanting to grow up to be healthy mountain goats we set off for the thang:

1 mile warm up (to the gravel road and back) to the parking lot

Dynamic stretching (toes/heal walks, A skip, high knees, butt kickers) with increasing speed jog outs after each one.

To the track for an overly lengthy Q explanation of:

400M at your I pace (should 1 mile time plus 20-30 sec or so) followed by a 100M recovery (at whatever pace is needed) x as many as you can do in 25 min

YHC got the sense this was pushing people when 20 min in many pax asked how many more times we were going to go around, also means the pax were pushing hard.

A half mile cooldown run followed by elbow planks with a few (10 total) merkins mixed in to do active recovery from the plank

Up to the newly named (but NOT newly christened) “Semi-Gloss Palace” for a 2.5 min wall sit with a 10 sec recovery for a final 45 sec wall sit (yeah, that felt good after running, not).

NMM:

Turkey Leg was burning it up out there as usual, although YHC does have a simple physics question for those more engineering oriented pax, how can someone who doesn’t even weigh 130 lbs have such a loud foot strike?  Anyway, always great to have TL out as he is always pushing guys!

A couple of pax commented on how did TR get so fast, good question we can let him answer below.

Freedom was hard at work out there with the after comment of this seems to be working, yes it does, like the rest of F3, it’s what you put into it and you’ve been killing it out there.

Nice to have Icicle and Horsehead out at site FNG’s, this workout starts at 0515.

Buttermaker was keeping pretty close to the front (far enough in front of YHC that I couldn’t keep track anyway).

Booyah was consistent and claimed to be having fun until the calf acted up, stretch and roll, stretch and roll my friend.

Stump Hugger was pushing the F3 Gear in a good way but not as hard as he was pushing it on the track, way to get at it.

The Mouth rolled up and caught the pax after the turn at the gravel lot but that was about all that was heard out of him today (unusually quiet).

Huggy Bear on two days running in a row and still going strong.

Announcements:
Pax leaving from Stonehenge at 0700 on Sat to help with clean up in Columbia.

Joe Davis Run Jan 9, watch for the pre-blast.

Dodgy

26 were present to see Header plant the shovel flag on a nice, cool morning at Charlotte Christian.  Actually 1 of those guys just came to watch me do burpees at the end of the workout, but he and the other 25 guys were going to get their money’s worth this morning as we started our workout.

We began with a nice mosey back to the football field with a tour of the bleacher steps along the way.

COP

  • Low slow squat x20
  • IW x20
  • Q gets in the circle for a wave of merkins up to 4 (planned to go higher but thought better of it as we had plenty of other fun things to do)

Mosey over to Grandma as we have neglected her for a couple weeks.

Elevens on Grandma Mtn

  • LBCs at the top
  • Squats at the bottom

Plankorama as pax finishes up.

Partner up for some work on the track

  • Partners run in opposite direction on track
  • When they meet on opposite side, do 20 handslap merkins
  • Get up and continue running in same direction
  • When you meet your partner again do 20 handslap merkins
  • Go until you’ve done 160 (or so) handslap merkins – will have run 4 laps

Do a little Mary as we wait for the six (LBCs, Dolly).  Recovery and mosey to the playground

  • Find your partner from earlier
  • Peoples Chair / Tricep Dips
  • While partner 1 does peoples chair, partner 2 does 30 tricep dips on their knees , then flapjack
  • AMRAP pull-ups (partner assisted as necessary)

Head back for COT – AYG for the last 100-150 yds

Done

NMS:

  • A bit of a Q-fail on the track work.  YHC has trouble with adding, multiplying, etc.  Was supposed to be 20 handslap merkins x 8 stops for a total of 160 merkins for everybody.  And you run a mile in the process (4 laps).  Seems simple enough right?  Hopefully everyone got in plenty of merkins regardless…that was a pretty tough mile.
  • Apparently the partner dips thing is taboo in A51.  Something just a little “dodgy” about the peoples chair/dips combination that Bulldog just didn’t care for, so he and a few others decided to do their own thing.  Apparently this is more of a Metro thing.
  • Welcome to our 3 FNGs…Swingline, Bacon bits (Swingline 2.0), Shotgun (Backdraft 2.0).  Nice work this morning!  Glad you joined us and hope to see you again.
  • YHC must be the only Pittsburgh Pirate fan in the pax this morning.  Hops and I wagered 50 burpees over the outcome of the wildcard game between the Pirates and Cubs.  I lost.  Hops made the trip to Jevlar this morning to collect, but generously helped me pay up as he split the burpees with me (30 for me, 20 for him).  Guess he wanted to get home before 8am.  Go Cubbies!
  • Solid prayer from Bulldog to close us out.
  • As always a pleasure to lead you guys this morning.  Thanks Header for the opportunity!

Announcements:

  • #SC Flood – All Hands on Deck – Area 51 pax will clowncar from The Vine in Ballantyne to Columbia to help with the flood cleanup effort.  Leaving the Vine at 7:15am Saturday, Oct. 10th more details about what we’ll be doing found here…http://f3nation.com/2015/10/07/all-hands-on-deck/

Moleskin:
– I really enjoyed leading you men today. I have continued to miss more workouts than posts so it was great to be out there. F3 is truly more than just a workout; the fellowship and brotherhood are something special. We are typically not a mubble chatter group on Thursdays, but we all enjoy each other tremendously – probably why we’re averaging great numbers on a week end and week out basis. Good to see some newer faces – we’ll get you guys leading before you know it. The upcoming Q schedule has some great upcoming leads – can’t wait to see what’s in store. Thank you for letting me take us out and pray for our F3 brothers in Columbia, and anyone who needs a helping hand.

Annoucements:
– Trip down after workouts to help Columbia brothers who had major damage. If you cannot make it, please donate to the gofundme site. Go to website for link.

If it didn’t hurt it didn’t work!

MOLESKIN:

  • Congrats to several 50+Pax(Respect) today!
  • A morning of mumble chatter and movement began with the Rocky theme giving indication it was time to start the COP with 16 PAX including (1 FNG) we began. (more than I anticipated) so a few audibles were mixed in today.
  • Our centipede looking stair weave was somewhat slower than I imagined it to be with such a big group but none the less we continued on to the small theatre like benches where we must have looked like a bunch of teenage girls fighting over seats at a Taylor Swift concert!
  • 9 benches and 16 PAX pumping out some dips, step ups and merkins utilizing every inch of bench real estate in a close space made for elementary sized children.
  • Indian run with 2 lines of PAX—Apparently 1 line was the Kenyans and 1 line the sloths as the confusion grew one line began sprinting as the other moseyed around the corner and down the hill to the lower parking
  • Time for a gut check! —And the awkwardness of making sure your partner standing above you wore clean underwear!
  • Reminder to more clearly define the starting lines for this new exercise and leave a parking space in between PAX to account for different pace thrown downs and plank walks. Not sure this had the effect I was going for but definitely worked the lower abs with a total of 50 “throw downs”
  • “Hands of Time” were against us as our COP was spread out too wide and the abs were already burning but we managed 4 rounds or about 2 minutes.
  • A few more MOM’s by the PAX and a final sprint to the finish got the heart rate one last time.
  • Circle up for announcements and Big Thanks to Drop Thrill for taking us out in prayer!
  • Overall a total body, increase your heart rate, keep on moving morning.

Overall a total body, increase your heart rate, keep on moving morning.

The Hills Are Scary

As I pulled into the parking lot at 5:11am and did not see any pax I began to worry.  Slowly people started trickling in to the point where we has six.  I guess the hill route scared everyone away!

Instructions were given as we ran our customary one mile warm up.  We passed the same silver Toyota tundra in the apartment complex that we pass every time we do this route.  That guy is punctual.  As we rounded onto Bevington we picked up The Mouth.  Some pax though they saw another strangler but there eyes must have deceived them because it was just a tomato.

Final instructions were given to go at your own pace at the one mile mark and off Haggis went. Everyone was to be back by 6:10am and the goal was to not get lost.  Mission accomplished.

Moleskin:

We had a good group of guys out there.  Devils Turn is unique especially on hill day since it is easy to get spread out.  Haggis had the good idea or bad idea of doubling back at certain stop signs.  This work out well as real time instructions could be given about what direction to go since there was no handy chalk.  To be honest it was so dark out there the chalk would have been hard to see.  Honey Bee is going to have to evolve his method.

Huggie Bear and O’Tannenbaum did not get lost since they were more of the rookies of the route. Both got over four and a half miles.

Cheddar, Mr. Bean and The Mouth set there own pace running together till towards the end.  Cheddar and Mr. Bean are part of the new ultra team for the Palmetto 200.  Congrats boys on joining in on the fun.  It will be nice to have some familiar faces out there.

Haggis set out at a blistering pace this morning.  He also ended in a blistering pace.  Once again he proves that if you voice your goals it becomes easier to accomplish because others around you push you to hit the mark.

Great job everyone and for those that missed it shame on you.  If you want to perform better in the mud runs or any other silly event we do you need to learn to run faster.  Devils Turn is a great test.

For those of you doing Thunder Road or Kiawah this is a good way to test your pace and push yourself each week.

Announcements:

Keep Long Haul in your prayers today and over the course of the next serveral weeks as he undergoes shoulder surgery today.

@Area51 is organizing a crew to go down to Cola this Saturday after #F3Stonehenge.  See Alf or Haggis about the details.  Lets give help when help is needed.  One day we may need the same.

That is all.  Have a great day!

Headlamps anyone?

What an absolute glorious morning.  10 of Area 51’s finest decided to forsake the fartsack for another weekly installment of the Hydra.  I would say they’re all better for, but you’d have to ask them.

Memories:

Involving Olde Providence the neighborhood is fun in theory, but sure sucks in the gloom.  7’s are stupid, 11’s are downright criminal.  Lots of Hicks from French Licks out there, pretty much everyone in the PAX listing above as YHC was the 6.

Good Hands decided to step on the one twig on Foxworth, sorry brother, get some ice on that ankle.

Chelms is fast, very fast.  50 is just a number, and My God does he show it.  Kotters to Chico as he was back after a broken hand softball incident in July; stayed on Chelms’ heels during 7’s.  #steeeerong

The Foxworth trail was eerily dark this morning.  A mosey turned into a PAX looking like zombies from The Walking Dead.  Hands out to feel for trees, looking for the light, but we made it!  Cobains brothers, should’ve tweeted about a headlamp or two last night.

Nice dewey grass for over/unders, certainly helped with the glide underneath the plank.

Great work by all the men this morning!

Chelms, thanks for taking us out!

Stonehenge Preblast – Opportunity to help with COLA flood effort

Do you want to be part of the F3 response to Columbia flooding?  Now is your chance.

http://f3nation.com/2015/10/07/all-hands-on-deck/

On Saturday the mighty Soft Pretzel will lead a brutal workout at Stonehenge, 6am.  That’s normal.  What’s not is that after the workout we will load up from The Vine (grabbing breakfast to go of course) and clown-car down to Columbia to help with the effort.

If you are like me you have been watching the tweets and seeing the F3 response to the floods in Columbia with awe and admiration, and hoping that some opportunity to help will present itself. This is it.  Let’s step up Area 51!

What will we be doing?  See the above post.  We will be doing the dirty work of clearing up.

What to bring? Yourself, at least one crate of water, work gloves, any tools that might be useful (see post), and a mask.  Yard-work pants, plus an F3 shirt to wear.

Haggis will bring: Truck with the hopes of filling the back with water.  Some demolition tools, multiple pairs of gloves, a pack of masks.

It’s a big truck.  Whether you can come to Columbia or not, please bring a case of water to Stonehenge if you can.

Any  suggestions – sound off below.
