14 men posted at The Matrix to get the week off on the right foot. The Q showed up with a few ideas but no real weinke. (you may have noticed.)
The Thang:
Mosey the long way around the school with some shuffles in the lower parking lot. Circle up by playground for COP in Cadence: Merkins, Mountain Climbers, Peter Parkers, Low Slow Squats, Plank Jacks.
Head to path on side of school for modified triple nickel: At playground do 5 pull-ups, at Stumps do 5 Jump ups. Every time you pass the path do 10 decline merkins with feet on railing. (both directions = 10 passes and 100 derkins)
When finished some Mary by the cars while the 6 completes the work.
Head to blocks and partner up.
P1: Overhead press P2: Sprint to far light post and back. flapjack to 200 OH presses
Repeat with 200 Flutter with press
Repeat with 150 Good Mornings and shorten sprint to first light post but add 5 burpees at the turn.
Various plank-o-rama in between.
Return blocks. Sprint field, first have backward then turn and finish forward.
1 minute left for 10 burpees on your own.
Moleskine:
Really strong group today. Rhapsody was crushing the triple nickel and using the high railing for derkins. McGee complained it wasn’t hard enough, but still had gloves on in 60 degrees. Mile High was back after his FNG post there last week – looking good and hanging in there. Always great to see Young Love get the chance to escape the herd of children for an hour. I know it can’t be easy – and he brought the take out prayer with him. Great stuff.
Thanks to Squid for managing the site and being my partner today. Slow, steady and impeccable form. More may have happened but it’s been a crazy day and you are lucky I got this out at all. And as for the title – I think most guys were feeling the rough pavement after they wintered over with gloves on for the workout. Time to get the man hands back.
No announcements.

This backblast is the only thing between me in front of this computer and me heading out to happy hour. Here goes.
9 men showed up for the Brave.
At 6:15 the disclaimer was given and the trunk was open to grab the plates and sandbags. #moans
Carry both the 100 yards or so and drop the sandbags off by the Residence Inn and then mosey down the sidewalk and drop the plates off on the other side of the office building. Keep moseying around the loop to the next building.
Round 1 (together) – 10 decline hip slappers (each hand), 10 split leg squats (each leg), move clockwise around sidewalk. Burpee broad jump between trash cans (10 -12 burpees). Move on to fitness trail for 10 parallel bar dips and 10 pull-ups. Back off trail and continue clockwise around loop. At sandbags, 10 sand bag thrusters and 10 full sit-ups. Continue to next building for 10 jump ups on wall, 10 decline merkins. Continue to plates, hairburner approx. 30 yards and 10 heels to heaven. Continue around circle back to start of loop.
Round 2 and beyond… Repeat AMRAP but add 10 to each exercise (except dips and pull-ups) each round. Most were half way through round 4 when time was up. 40 sand bag thrusters are super awesome.
2.5ish easy miles.
Moleskine:
Awesome work out there. Transporter, Buckeye, Fahrvra, and Doc McStuffins were tearing it up out there. WT, VP, PJ, and Champagne weren’t far behind, encouraging each other to keep the pace.
This workout will turn the legs to jelly real quick, so while the runs were short, they weren’t easy.
#Soapbox
So The Brave was originally put together by Champagne and MT to be OCR training specific. Looking back at the backblasts I see a lot of hard workouts, but the uniqueness of OCR training seems to be lacking. OCR is about running mixed with high intensity efforts pushing, pulling, climbing, carrying etc. That includes coupons. Grumbling about coupons at The Brave is like being mad there are KB’s at Skunkworks. It’s part of the workout and OCR training and should be there all the time. Deal with it. This is one man’s opinion and you have a couple of great site Q’s who like to lay a down a beating regardless. (Just none of them there to take a beating today!) Make OCR training great again!
#Soapbox #2
Thanks to Thin Mint for getting me back out to The Brave. Really trying to make a purposeful effort to hit many different workouts and get more variety each week. Challenging the body and the brain while getting to know more PAX.
If feel your workouts are getting stale, get out of your comfort zone and try some new ones. There are lots of great ones every day. If you are a runner, go swing a KB, plenty of extra KB’s to go around out there. If you are a meathead go run loops at Swift. No matter your pace Brat will keep you all together. I got a refresher on this from Fishwrap’s note to the Metro PAX this week. To be honest I don’t understand most of what he is talking about. It’s kind of like the time I took a vacation in Italy. I don’t speak Italian, but I did flail through 3 years of high school Spanish. Spanish isn’t Italian, (especially 3 years of poorly learned Spanish) but its close enough to sort of get the idea of a conversation in Italian without really understanding any of the detail. So to me Fishwrap speaks Italian, I speak terrible Spanish and yet somehow I sort of get where he is going.
So pick one workout a week on a different day than your norm, or different AO than your norm. Meet new PAX, challenge your physical ability, keep things fresh. The Q might decide what you do when you post, but you decide where and when to post. Make good choices. You could even Q at a new AO.
#End Soapbox
Thanks to Wild Turkey for the takeout.

Announcements – build a wall with Haggis tomorrow. Sign up for Dad’s camp.
9 men were bold enough to post at Foxhole this AM for my VQ at the AO. A good group of regulars out there ready to swing some metal. No site Q’s present. Something about alarm failure and a business trip, all weak excuses.
Gather up for brief disclaimer. Leave bells for a quick 300m stroll around the parking lot. Some SSH and Merkins to loosen the joints from the weekend.
The Thang:
Round 1: 20 2-handed swings, 20 Good Mornings, 20 Sumo-Deadlift High Pulls, 8 8-Count Body Builders. Complete 3 sets of this and then run the 300m loop.
Round 2: 20 Snatches (10 each arm), 20 Romanian Dead Lifts (10 each leg), 20 overhead lat pulls, 8 8-Count Body Builders. Complete 3 sets of this and then run the 300m loop.
Round 3: 20 High Pulls (10 each arm), 20 Tea Bag Squats, 20 Overhead press, 8 8-Count Body Builders. Complete 3 sets of this and then run the 300m loop.
Some Plank and Mary between rounds.
Finish with some Flutter with press and extra 2-handed swings.
Boom – Stairway to Heaven fades out and we are done. Like I planned it that way.
Moleskine:
This isn’t the first time I have used this workout format. Mostly because I really like it because it hits a bunch of different muscle groups with different movements and stresses the cardio of the pace as much as it stresses the strength exercises. Plus you can always change up the individual exercises and counts to fit your Q style.
Strong work out there by the men of Foxhole which included ⅓ Respects! A couple of guys rotating through KB’s and using the heavier ones for the leg work. Chopper went digging through the jeep mid-workout to find some more KB’s to play with! Soft Pretzel and Wild Turkey were moving through it quickly. Escobar and Nard Dog also keeping a steady pace. Frehley’s seemed to grumble on the tunes a few times. I am still not sure what Warrant’s Cherry Pie is referring to? But we started hard with AC/DC and finished up with Zeppelin so let’s assume everything in the middle was just as awesome. And Stairway started at 6:07 and closed us right out at 6:15.
Argonaut asked me what size KB was needed for today. Apparently he snuggled up too close to it last night and never heard the alarm to post. You missed a good one.
Thanks to Wild Turkey for the takeout.

Announcements
Building the wall with Haggis – Saturday 3/18. Lift really heavy rocks with a professional really heavy rock lifter.
Brolympics coming a Saturday in May at Community House Middle School See DaVinci and Stonehenge site Q’s for details. If Wild Turkey and Tolkien are involved I am sure there will be 10,389,692 tweets on the subject letting you know it is going to happen.
35 degrees. In early March? What happened to the balmy 60 degree days of February?
14 men showed up to start the workout this morning. Joker and Floor Slapper showed up around 5:45 claiming something about how the “pre-run” went too long. My guess is Joker suckered Floor Slapper into some off the books partner exercises.
If it wasn’t quite obvious I made this up on the fly. I thought about the Hairburners, but the rest was up for grabs.
Mosey around Church and end up in the new circle between a couple of the lower school buildings for COP.
SSH, CDD, IW, Rotating Merkins, Maybe something else.
Partner up.
P1 runs to steps and back while P2 does exercise – 2 rounds, per partner, per exercise. We did squat jumps, single leg squats, and dips on the bench.
Mosey over to parking lot and each team grab a plate. A perfect 8 teams for 8 plates.
P1 – Hairburner to other set of parking spots and back. P2 Merkins. Flapjack and repeat to 100 merkins.
Do that again except 150 Monkey Humpers – that combo was awful.
P1 Grip walk to sidewalk, switch hands and come back (grip walk = grab plate one handed by the edge, not the middle hole). P2 – Squats. Flapjack for 2 rounds.
Do that again except flutters.
Now Hgirburner CMIYC – 10 merkins and chase. Hairburner up to the road.
Now Grip walk CMIYC to cars – 3 burpees and chase.
7 minutes left – circle up in field for mary. One at a time get up and hit pull up bars for 10 pull-ups to cover off on challenge requirement. We sort of did, Flutters, Dolly, LBC, Bicycle, Russian Twist, CCV, Protractor, but mostly just laid back and chatted like 5th grade girls. #FunFriday
Moleskine:
Right off the bat Horsehead is all worried I am doing the Merkin/Pull-up challenge and that would be what the workout was all about. Well, I am not, and wasn’t planning on it. But its never hard to knock out 150 merkins and 10 pull-ups at a bootcamp. So we got close to it.
Lex Luthor came in at 5:30 on two wheels, then proceeded to take his sweet old time getting the ruck out of the car and installing it. He caught up. But I made him do CDD in COP as punishment. Everyone knows CDD’s with a ruck on is awesome. I mean, if you like getting hit in the back of the head with a back pack full of bricks.
Bulldog was impressed with the Q’s spin moves during COP. Challenged him to do so during Merkins. It was pretty.
Lots of ninja rolls over the Hairburners today. Sorry fellas, the smooth parts of that pavement are nice and smooth, but that tar strips gums up the plate pretty quick. Glad no major injuries.
OK – it’s late, gonna keep this brief.
17 Men
Disclaimer
Run to day care – Seal Jack, Plank Jack, Low Plank Jack
Run to Davie – Pass Donut Runner’s. Mock their runner arms and donut guts.
Circle up: Squats and merkins, but not Imperial Walkers. They are so yesterday.
Run down hill. Suicide up hill for 5 lights. 10 Merkins at each light. 5 Burpees at bottom. This was way longer in real life than in my head. Finish at bottom of hill. Joker took off wooly vest. Smokey through the Rocky Top hat right in the middle of the burpee zone. Run Stopper threw his size schmedium orange pumpkin costume in the grass.
We did some Mary. LBC, Flutter, Heels to Heaven and Freddy Mercury – the usual.
Grab laundry and backwards run all the way up the hill to the gate. Except stop at each light for 10 jump squats. Super fun!
Run to playground for a quick set of 10 pull-ups, 10 burpees, and 20 CDD.
Lunge walk until all are done. Mosey back out of park. Stop at bottom of hill. AYG ~400M to traffic light at top of hill. Mosey home. Done.
Moleskine:
Announcements – Joker looking for volunteers to spend time with kids at Alexander Youth Network on Saturday – 4pm for 45 minutes. #serve
Thanks to Smokey for the takeout.

16 PAX posted at Fast Twitch this AM for the promise of AMRAP. This included Hairball who was fresh off embarrassing the Sea Turtle half marathon course. At least he crushed it for 21,094 meters. Unfortunately a half-marathon is 21,097 meters. #StravaSux
In other news, YHC came in on two wheels this AM. Apparently I lost track of time from the alarm clock to the car. First glance of the crew was that all were regulars, or resembled regulars, or were not regulars. Either way, I threw out a “just don’t get hurt” sort of disclaimer and off wee went.
Run out to the corner of Raintree and Windbluff. Crush some Imperial Walkers to either A) Dynamically stretch the Hamstrings, B) Look silly in public, C) Waste time, or D) Both B & C.
Air squat on hold for instructions and quick count of PAX so I know we come back with who we left with:
Run down Raintree to speed hump and back. Run down Windbluff to speed hump and back. Run down Smoker-ise to cul-de-sac and back. At the end of each leg, do 15 good mornings. Back at the middle do 10 Heels to Heaven each time, while dodging blinker-less on-coming traffic. Choose you own route and repeat continuously until meeting back at Raintree/Windbluff at 6:05.
Run to Rising Meadow for the last leg. To cul-de-sac, 15 Good Mornings, back to intersection for 10 heels to heaven. Run to Woodfox, AYG down Woodfox and into lot. Pop-Tart led 60 seconds of LBC’s to finish.
Moleskine:
After The Matrix Fault Line mentions, “Do you know who Q’s FT tomorrow?” No I do not, I will look it up. Oh, I guess I do. And I have Death Valley on Wednesday. Good to know. I was not prepared for a lot of creativity so I went with some of the basics on the hills of Rain Tree. Hard to get creative on a running workout and I feel we have been spending too much time west of campus recently. Time to get back to our roots.
Strong work by lots of men out there today. Rachel and Hairball were cooking out there. Turkey Leg and Swiper were up front also, but they were powered by some competitive exchange of gas which killed anyone too close behind. Not sure who won that battle but I am sure the rest of us lost.
Haze and Soul Glow seem to be getting comfy out there. Now that Radar is out of the picture, there is nothing to stop their relationship from blossoming.
Duct Work, Margo and Fault Line were also making strong work of the AMRAP and covering some ground. Iron Sides was grinding while Mr. Brady was plotting his revenge from the back of the pack. Certainly it won’t take him long to regain full speed. I am not sure how much Pop-Tart ran, but he crushed the last quarter mile.
Thanks to Mr. Brady for the takeout.
I have rushed this and not proofread any of the backblast, I have outsourced that to Gummy. Any concerns can be brought to his attention. Hairball is his backup.
T-Claps to the men that helped at Debbie’s House and Ronald McDonald House this weekend. Excellent and admirable efforts. Proud to count you as brothers.

In the aftermath of the Heavy 5K about a year ago I was fairly certain no one liked me, no one would come to one of my Q’s again (if anyone would let me Q their site) and certainly no one would want to repeat this nonsense. Not the men of F3. To my surprise I actually had people ASKING to do this again. Some who did it the first time and other’s who missed it and wanted to give it a try. So enter the idea of the Mini-CSAUP. Admittedly and purposefully not a standard bootcamp, gear or running workout. So with a pre-blast 10 days ago, we had 17 show up for a redo of the following:
COP – No time for that.
The Thang –
Break into 4 groups of 4 men (one group of 5).  Each group grabs one stone from the pile cinder block (padded for comfort of course), one 50# sandbag and one 45# plate for the trunk.  Still someone came away with the 35# plate again.  I need to hide that better.  We also through an extra 25# plate at the team of 5 and as a group we added a shovel flag this year.
As a team, get your sandbag, block, and your plate to the staircase of the Charlotte Catholic Parking deck as fast as you can. Pays to be a winner. For those doing the math at home that’s 1.5ish miles away.
Plank while receiving instructions:  See this is where I messed up.  Forgot to plank.  Guys tend to shut up and listen to get out of the plank.  No plank = lots of mumble chatter = a bit of confusion.  Either way, work got done.
At the deck, P1 & P2 take plate and do CMIYC Hariburners (10 merkins and chase) up to the set of cones half way and back around to the stairs at level 2. P3 does fireman’s carry with the sandbag up to the top of the stairs and back down. P4 does thrusters with a rock. P3 & P4 flapjack. When all 4 team members return do 20 Handclap Merkins. And Rotate. P3 & P4 do Hairburners to level 3 of the deck, while P1 & P2 do Fireman’s carry and thrusters. Finish with 20 Handclap Merkins. P5 in the group with 1 extra did some things too. Not sure what.
Repeat the whole thing except come down the ramps and replace Thrusters with Louganis with a rock.
When all are done each team takes their sandbag, rock, and plate and heads back to McAlpine.
Finish with 60 seconds left and 20 partner hand slap merkins.
Done.
Moleskin (sorry, no dead cat this time)
A mix of last minute in’s and out’s left us with a healthy crowd of 17 this morning.
It started off rough when for some reason I thought we had 5 groups instead of 4 and spent I don’t know, what felt like 30 minutes breaking everyone into teams. Disclaimer, necessary and given. Off we went at a fast pace. Right around 11 minutes for mile 1 with the gear.
Chelms had a late Friday warning that some testing would be going on at the Catholic High campus at 8am. I knew we would be rolling out by 7:40 and hoped to miss most of the traffic. Not so much. at about 7:35 I see Chelms keeping the peace with a female and male representative of the school who were strongly concerned that strange men were scaring students and throwing cinder blocks off the parking deck? This conversation went on far too long, but gave us enough time to finish the work and ski-daddle (as they say down south). Off we went back to the launch.
A few items of note:
Icky Shuffle hates, I mean loathes my sandbags. Every time I make him carry them, one ends up busted open. Without fail. Anger management may be necessary.
Ickey, Rachael, and Mermaid suffered through 3 of my Q’s in 4 days this week. T-claps men, thanks for the support. Your prize is forthcoming.
Big props to: Witch Doctor, Bounce, Spackler, Mermaid, and Turkey Leg for doing this 2 years in a row. Frasier likely has open appointments, you should see him for counseling. #F3Discounts.
Rachael still moves fast with a 45# weight. I am thinking we challenge Rachael and McGee to a 1-mile race – with plate. It would be legit fast.
It seemed like a bit of chaos out there this AM and I wasn’t able to keep track of all the teams. On the way back it felt more like all one team as guys were just grabbing and carrying.
Thanks to all who joined in the first A51 Mini-CSAUP. Mermaid has something planned for the next one, look forward this spring. Be nervous. I am.
Thanks to Squid for the takeout.

24 at Centurion this morning. I don’t know all the regulars but based on some recent back blasts I felt like you had most of them out. I have only been to this AO a handful of times and was looking forward to utilizing some of the fine features.
Fast mosey across 51 and behind to some big awkward hill/median thing with a Greek name.
COP: Seal Jacks, IW, Plank Jacks, 6″ Plank Jacks, Merkins, Low Slow Squats.
Triple Nickel up and over the hill. 5 8-count body builders on one side, up an over for 5 8-count body builders on the other. Repeat 5 times. Plank-o-rama for the 6. (that’s 50 8-count body builders to get things started.)
Fast mosey back to campus with a stop after 51 for some Flutter while all the PAX makes it across the street.
Head towards middle staircase of parking deck with some other Greek name. Half the group run to North stairwell and up, 5 low plank jacks at bottom, back to middle stair case and down for 5 jump squats at the bottom. Repeat 5 times. The other half does the same thing except climbed the South stairwell.
6 MOM while all finish: Heels to Heaven, Dolly, LBC’s, maybe something else I forgot.
Last triple nickel on the long ramp up the deck. 5 merkins at the bottom, 5 donkey kicks on the wall at the end of the 1st level. Rachael and Checkpoint were the only two beasts to complete this before we had to head back to launch. 40 seconds remaining for 8 burpees on your own.
Moleskine:
Lot’s of guys flying out there this AM including Chelms, Mermaid, and Lorax. Also a solid crew of grinders who kept hustling to ensure they kept up all the reps. No complaints just handwork. Chelms called it a C for originality but A+ for pain. Stairs and hills are stairs and hills. They aren’t creative or pretty, but effective.
2 FNG’s handled this beating well. Snuka, as in Jimmy Superfly, works for Van Pelt and apparently his business unit is owned by Linda McMahon of WWF or WWE, or whatever they call it. Matchbox was brought out by Bus Boy and Driver likes to race cars. I guess little cars. This nick name seemed to be pre-determined by his so called “friends”
For the record: Mermaid, Brilleaux, Lorax, Icky Shuffle, Rappers Delight, Rachael and Van Pelt are all 2 for 2 on my Q’s this week? Who’s going to close it out with me and go 3 for 3 tomorrow.
Thanks to Chelms and Margo for the keys to Centurion for some East side flavor.
Thanks to Mermaid for the takeout.

Announcements: Margo organizing a meal prep and serving at Ronald McDonald house and needs 8 more guys to help. See F3 Nation site and sign up.
The backblast is coming in late today, but it’s still today.
20 Men posted at Anvil after a fair warning of burpees. And burpees we did.
Mosey to the COP.
SSH, IW, Low Slow Squats, Merkins, and 10 burpees OYO
Mosey to lot next to 51.
Run from one end to the other, stop at each parking lot line for 2 jump squats – it’s a lot of lines. AYG back.
Run from one end to the other, stop at each median for 15 Monkey Humpers. AYG back
Plank with Mountain Climbers – 50 IC
Mosey to Hotbox. 3 rounds of split leg squats and derkins with a run around the light post.
Mosey over to portico thing-a-ma-bob. Circle up for Mary. Flutters, Dollies, Freddy Mercury, Heels to Heaven, Cross over Dollies, and LBC’s (6 full minutes)
Some peoples chair then run back the car area and circle up.
10 minutes left for 100 Burpees OYO and in silence. Use the time to reflect on family, friends and our brother McGee who is mourning the loss of his mother. If you finish early, help other brother’s finish.
Moleskine:
After deciding 100 Burpees must be done at McGee’s AO to keep is 100 burpees a day going, I went all in and tried to pull of a Q that McGee would have done. After reviewing a bunch of his backblasts a few themes emerged:
It is great to see the PAX #ShieldLock around a brother in need. While McGee wasn’t at the workout his spirit was strong and 2,000 plus burpees were completed.
Thanks to Mermaid for the wonderful takeout.
Always an honor,
Alf

Holy smokes. Rolled into the parking lot this morning at 5:27 and couldn’t find a spot to park. Thought I was going to have to valet the car, but then would any of us out there really trust another one of us to valet their car, without a joy ride or some donuts in the parking lot? Squeezed it in between Fletch and another ride. Grabbed the bell and found my way into a tight spot within a circle way to small to fit the 23 men in attendance. Is that some sort of record at Meathead? Does Brown even have enough “Brotien” shakes and bars to share with that many.
I had to quickly change the weinke, as I had planned on 45 minutes of TGU’s AMRAP. Then I figured there was just too many guys to teach how to do TGU’s, so we will try something else.
Gather in a circle, or just stand where you are for the warm up. 20 SSH IC, 20 2-Handed swings OYO, and 5 slow prying squats. Warm? Warm enough? Either way, time to get into the meat of this.
Round 1:
10 – One handed swings right
10 – One handed swings left
10 – Sumo Deadlift High Pull
10 – Tricep extensions
10 – Merkins
Repeat round 2 more times, increasing reps to 15 and then 20.
Round 2 – Same as round 1 but with: Snatch right, Snatch Left, RDL Right, RDL Left, KB Curls, Merkins
Round 3 – Same pattern: High Pull Right, High Pull Left, Goblet Squat, Overhead press, Merkins
Round 4 – Same pattern: Cleans Right, Cleans Left, Good Mornings, OH lat pull (lying on back), Merkins
Brown says we don’t do Mary at Meathead, and we are out of time.
Done.
Moleskine:
I did not expect so many at Meathead this AM, but happy to see all the men out ready to put in some work. Tolkien (site FNG) brought out the Injured Reserve with Mr. Brady (Site FNG) and Turkey Leg. Apparently some side marketing also brought out Hairball. Tiger Rag taking a does of his own medicine when he said KB’s help the core and make you a stronger runner. It had been so long we had to remind him which way to hold the KB (He still doesn’t curl the KB).
Somehow I got stuck right in the middle of the 2 site Q’s, High Tide and Brown, they crushed it, but I really think they thought I was going to screw it up and need to step in. Header and Chin Music did some work out there, and talked about it the entire time. They are competing for the 8th grade girls “most talkative” crown. Clear winners there. Not to take away from Fletch, TR, and Hairball on the chatting it up other side of the circle, but those 2 were just closer to me.
Mad was out there with a Ruck on. #Strong. This sucked with just the KB, would not want to do it with a Ruck as well.
Pulled out a new playlist on Pandora this morning and I liked it for the most part. If you didn’t then you sign up to Q and pick whatever smooth jams you want. Round 3 went about 25 seconds too long because Paradise City was finishing up. You can pause Axl with 25 seconds left in Paradise City. You just can’t.
I over estimated the charge in the Bluetooth. The high volume and cold weather sucked that last 60% out of it with 4 minutes left. Hope you enjoyed the suffering in silence.
The Hoff (Where did he end up anyway, 2 year disabled list?) used to always throw on the #’s on the lifting workouts. So here goes (If you completed the routines) 180 Merkins, 790 KB Lifts, and 40 SSH. Stick that in your Fitbit and smoke it. If the average guy had a 35# KB then you lifted about 14 tons this morning. More than the rest of the sissy’s in your office are going to lift this month. #Swole.
Thanks to Hairball for the sendoff and to Brown and High Tide for the opportunity to lead.
For those who have interest, the next up song we missed on Pandora was AC/DC “For Those About to Rock” and I salute you all for the efforts this morning.
