Where are all of these cars going???

Where are all of these cars going???

… at freaking 0530 in the morning?  This is not a highway… for crying out loud!!

… but we all made it… even Insomniac after he had been abducted by aliens for the first 40 minutes of an hour workout doing who-knows-what… we all made it out and back!

18 Goats gathered in the SCMS steamy morning, and 19 returned… (see abduction of Insomniac…)

Here is what went down:

  1. Mosey to RTCC on Raintree Ln.
  2. Dynamic stretching in RTCC overflow parking lot (thanks to Tweetsie providing recon)
  3. Gassers up Raintree hill to Four Mile Creek stop sign… recover back to bottom of hill (.25 mile one-way x 3)
  4. Gasser to bottom of Wind Bluff
  5. Return to SCMS

DONE!  4.5 to 5-miles covered.  Excellent job!

Moleskin

Great to have guys joining us who are getting ready for BRR.  You guys are always welcome to join us!  This week, we had Picasso, Meatloaf and Pop Tart out.  Thank you guys for joining… we’ll expect you to be regulars for the next 3-4 weeks!  Pop Tart even took the initiative to lead the PAX in some LBC’s… thanks for the extra credit!

Second week out for Purrell… who once again led the pack on the gassers… extremely strong!

And second week out for Jello… who is obviously addicted to pain!  But seriously, he is getting BRR driver ready so he can throw guys out of the van, scoop up waters and gatorades in one hand, AND run a leg or two just for the heck of it!!  Drano is the BRR driver captain, and leading by example!!  He too, has to be ready to wear several hats over the BRR weekend!

Lois was looking extremely strong on the gassers to Four Mile Creek.  Same for Gullah, Sony, Nomad, Benny and Houdini!

Adobe, Early Bird, Slice, Tweetsie and Sensei put in some great gasser efforts… you guys are awesome!

Not sure what Insomniac did after the probing… he didn’t look too upset, so I assume it was what he is familiar with…

Announcements:

  1.  Java Run Saturdays at 0600 at Bevington Greenway entrance
  2. Rumrunner Sundays time and location varies… watch for tweets/texts from Slim Fast

Adobe took us out in prayer… prayers answered for Insomniac’s M’s tests!

“That Was a Bad Idea”

Muggy…it was muggy. After a quick warm-up lap, here’s what went down:
Warm-up (Abbreviated due to past mockery from PAX):
  • SSH x 40
  • Imperial Walkers x 20
  • Mtn Climbers x 20
  • Merkins x 10
  • Potato Pickers x 10
  • Old Man Stretch
The Thang:
We moseyed over to the long sidewalk for the first of my not-so-good ideas…4×4’s. For anyone who’s never visited the F3 lexicon page (the 1st page to be precise), you’ve never lived and probably never done a 4×4…until today:
4×4 and run to next light pole. We did 3 light poles before I realized they were not fun. We then collected Rocks from the rock pile Goodfella wanted to leave in disarray on Monday (Manual said ‘NO’ to his plan).
With rocks extended out front, we did walking lunges with a twist from light pole to light pole. At next light pole, we carried rock either over head or against our chest, and lunged light pole to light pole.
Took a little jog with our rocks over to a little all-terrain area (it was gravel, but still dangerous). We did 3 ALARMs.
A= Bicep Curls with Rock x 20
L= Squats x 20
A= LBC x 20
R= Run to bottom of hill into gravel area
M= Merkins x 20 at the top
There was a silent ‘B’ in the ALARM. 5 Burpees at the bottom of the hill. Rinse and repeat x 3.
From there we returned our rocks to the pile and grabbed some wall.
1 minute wall sit then 20 squats
1 minute wall sit with overhead presses then 20 squats
Back to sidewalk for a little suicide squat. Run from first light pole to next, 20 squats, and return to first pole for 20 more. Then run to next light pole in sequence, 20 squats, and return to first pole for 20 more.
An epic failure at a squat wave was quickly forgiven as we dove into some classic BC Flutters to close us out.
Announcements:
  • Susan Komen is coming up.
  • There’s another race in Ballantyne as well that F3 and the SFN chariots will be at. See Posse for details on that.
  • Glad the last of the Nali loaf made it out today. Crumbs did a great job and Bolt might actually be faster than his dad…which heretofore was deemed impossible.
  • Thanks for letting me lead. It was fun. Apologies if you experience any toilet time discomfort in the old legs. #lifealert #slacksux

Tour de Matthews

Our AO is as solid as they come – good lighting, some hills, track (sort of), stairs, large field, really really ridiculously good looking site Qs, etc. but for a while I’ve wanted to take the PAX through DTM (Downtown Matthews) since it’s not even .5 miles away and it’s got a great feel to it and lots to do.

We started off with a strong pace but one that I knew the PAX could handle. Cotton Tail immediately yelled “pretty fast pace” in effort to send me a hint to slow down, Harley (I think) yelled “Where are we going?”.

What had happened was…

We immediately ran across John St. and took the back route to downtown Matthews, past Renfrow farms and into the motorcycle shop parking lot for a warmup.

SSH, Mountain Climbers, Carolina Dry Docks, Merkins

At the long one-way parking lot behind Seaboard

8 total lamposts – increasing burpees at each one – 36 total

Three rounds of the following – 20 derkins, 20 dips, 20 Sister Mary Catherines  and run a lap up the new stairs (that lead to Seaboard) and back around to Trade St.

Run down to the library across the street and partner up

Cumulative reps of the following with a partner:

1oo merkins

100 squat jumps

200 LBCs

Partner 1 runs lap around the circle in front of the library and flap jacks

We rounded up the PAX to head back as it was already 6:02 and we were exactly 1 mile away from the school

In Downtown Matthews

At 8 lamposts we did 8’s

1 plank jack, 7 merkins, 2 plank jacks, 6 merkins, etc.

At this point it was 6:08 and we headed back to the school on the back road.

We made it back by 6:13 and did an AYG sprint to the lot, which took us less than 1 minute and ended up finishing a minute early. I was considering a burpee burnout but I could tell we were done.

Moleskine

Swiss Miss, being a true servant leader, brought up the back of the PAX as we were going across some busy roads and went pretty far offsite – thank you.

Gypsy came back after posting like 4 times since he joined F3 last Friday. He said he just gave up smoking after 30+ years and he’s killing it now – congrats bro. Bring your friends.

I did a little pre Q-run last night at like 10:30-11ish pm and saw Drive By at Seaboard taking in a very dark stout brew. He said he was out for this morning because it was late and he was feeling good with a beer (or two) in his belly. I pushed him (and another guy there) to post and he showed up. He knew we were making the trek to downtown and still made it. He’s basically out until next summer since he’s a teacher and has to make it to school early – see you then brother.

Everyone pushed hard today, it was a little longer of a run than usual but we stayed within 50 yards of each other the whole morning. Except at the end when Rhapsody put it into 5th gear on the AYG run – such a douche move.

We got a good tour of Matthews today – there’s a lot to do but there was a bit more traffic than anticipated. Nice work by all!

We Should Have Played Golf

Rolled up and saw management had blocked our normal parking spot so 14 men had to divert to the unpaved lot – Site Q’s Udder or Margo will wash your car if you drop by their house since they didn’t warn us.  My new ride is all dusty.

Thinking back, the pre-tweet Thursday night mentioning pavers was probably a bad idea – only 14 men were man enough to show up knowing it was going to suck compared to our normal 25+.    Mermaid wanted to know what was in the trunk of my car but he forgot we have pavers stored on site (this is an advanced AO).   I should have pulled out the golf clubs and told the pax we would be working on chip shots down on the practice field but alas I stuck with the original plan and am regretting it now.

The Thang:

Mosey over to our usual parking lot for warm up.   SSH X20, 5 burpees, Mtn Climbers X20, 10 burpees, Merkins X10, Stagger Right X10, Stagger Left X10, and 5 burpees

Grab a couple of pavers from the stash before heading up Little toward Carmel.  Stop at Carmel for directions.     Perform 20 squats at the start and 20 at the stop light at Carmel/51, and 20 at Carmel/Johnston while on the way to entrance to greenway.    At greenway entrance,  perform 25 pull ups with merkins in between sets (not a good idea – no rest for shoulders).   A few minutes of mary while we wait on the six and then head back to campus.    20 squats at the Carmel/Johnston Rd intersection and than over to practice field.

Bent Jacobs ladder – Suicide run with 1-7 ladder of burpees at the starting line.

Mosey back to launch point to drop off pavers and finish with 6 minutes of mary.

Naked MS

Smaller than normal crowd but actually an ideal number.  Maybe the site Q’s are more popular than I thought (hard to believe) and that is why the numbers were down.

One paver is not too bad as you can switch between hands and give each side a break.   Centurion pax took 2 pavers and found out it is more than twice as hard.   No rest for either arm while running over 2 miles.  Strong work and the lack of complaining was refreshing (I would have complained if I weren’t the Q).  Of course, Mermaid pulls a veteran move and ditches his before we even get out of the parking lot.

Shoe will get your F3 name right eventually – correctly called Lorax this am after calling him Swiper like the last 5 times they worked out together.   However, I give Shoe credit for trying to learn guys names and not being afraid to fail (10,000 fails – read about it in Freed to Lead).    We should all attempt to remember as many PAX names as possible.  If an old man like Shoe can do it then surely the rest of us can.

Mermaid once again protected the pax – making sure the 6 was ok – T-claps.  Bout Time was out front most of the morning followed closely by Lorax, Nemo, Rachel and maybe one more.   Unfortunately, the pavers slowed me more down then the young guys – duh.

Dumpster Fire is running for office in Pineville – I think he only needs 5 votes to win so surely we can find 5 Pineville F3 pax (or dead people whose name we can use) to vote for him.  #drainthePinevilleswamp

Announcements

Sign up for F3 golf to be held on October 27 at f3golf.com.  Great way to have fun and support F3 Leap Expansion.   As reminder, Centurion will once again sponsor a hole so please give donations to YHC, Margo, or Udder.    Tee sponsorship is only $100 but hoping to raise double or triple that amount.    Just a few dollars from every PAX that posts regularly will add up.

Isabella Santos 5k with Speed-for-Need is on 9/30/17 and we encourage PAX to sign up and run.  These are great events and you will be glad you participated.  See the full schedule at https://f3speedforneed.wordpress.com/speed-for-need-race-schedule/

Amrap for Autism is 8/26.   See Scabby to for more information and https://www.isabellasantosfoundation.org/annual-5k-for-kids-cancer/

Thanks to Mermaid for the take out.   Please keep his niece in our prayers as she battles illness.

Circuits and pyramids

8 pax posted at Elizabeth Lane Elementary this morning for another edition of Meathead. After reaching out the night before on Twitter, The Wall made good on his promise and posted as a site FNG. YHC partnered him up with High Tide, the resident KB guru, for some one on one tutoring.

After a thorough disclaimer, we did a brief warm-up:

  • SSH x 15 IC (it’s not an F3 workout without some SSH)
  • Halos x 5 each way (loosen up the shoulders)
  • Hip bridges x 10 OYO (loosens up the hips – good for pax that sit all day)
  • Prying squat x 3 civilian count (loosens up the hips some more)
  • Now that we’re sufficiently warmed up, it was time to get down to bidness.

The Thang:

Circuit 1:

  • 10 x 1H swings with the non-dominant hand (NDH)
  • 10 x 1H swings with the dominant hand (DH)
  • 5 x C&P with the NDH
  • 5 x C&P with the DH
  • 5 x deadlifts
  • Carry to the middle median (Overhead, waiter, suitcase, pax choice, skipped on the last round)

Repeato x 4 for a total of 100 swings, 50 C&P, and 50 deadlifts.

Pyramid:

1/3/5/7/5/3/1 of the following exercises per side:

  • Swings
  • High pulls
  • Snatches
  • Cleans
  • Racked squats

Circuit 2:

  • 10 x high pulls with the non-dominant hand (NDH)
  • 10 x high pulls with the dominant hand (DH)
  • 5 x snatches with the NDH
  • 5 x snatches with the DH
  • 5 x goblet squats

Repeato x 1-2 for a total of 40-60 high pulls, 20-30 snatches, and 10-15 goblet squats. This was supposed to be 5 rounds, but we ran out of time.

COT – thanks to Header for the take-out.

Announcements:

  • BRR teams need drivers. Please let Flipper and/or Cheddar know if you are available. It’s a great way to experience the BRR without having to run. All the fun without the run, as HT said.
  • F3 Golf is 10/27. Put it on your calendar and plan to skip work.
  • Isabella Santos 5k – 9/30 in Ballantyne. Speed for Need will be there. Sign up if you can.

Moleskine:

  • Welcome to The Wall, a site FNG for Meathead. He ended up with three bells between HT and YHC, so he felt like a regular by the time he was done. Keep posting and the form will improve and you’ll be surprised how quickly you move up in bell size.
  • Purell is also either a site FNG or relatively new. He did a great job out there and crushed the exercises.
  • This is the first workout of the new site Q regime of YHC and Witch Doctor. Please let one or both of us know if you’d like to Q. Otherwise, we’ll be appointing weekly Qs to spice things up and keep it interesting. Thanks for coming out and we look forward to seeing you next week at Charlotte’s only 0.0 workout. All gear is welcome!
  • Please sound off with any additional feedback below. Sorry for the brevity, but I’ve got to run.

Shake N Bake @ the Peak and I helped!!!

First, I will apologize now. I could not remember all the names from this morning. I was close, but this is not horse shoes. I apologize for not having your name down or misspelled.

After disclaimer, the group went on a short mosey to the lower parking lot for warm-up consisting of SSH’s and Imperial Walkers. Let’s do it!!!!

Next came the Suicide Stations.

  • Run to first light pole and do 10 Merkins. Return to start.
  • Run to second light pole and do 15 Big Boy Sit-ups. Return to start.
  • Run to third light pole and do 20 Diamond Merkins. Return to start.
  • Run to fourth light pole and do 25 American Hammers. Return to start.
  • Flutter kick as we wait on the rest.

At this point the Q forgot to inform the group of a very important rule. At the mention of the name “Shake N Bake”, the group does 5 burpees.

Let’s circle up for the Bear Crawl Ring of Fire.

  • Taking too long to get in circle so……. SHAKE N BAKE(5 Burpees)
  • Bear crawl in the circle until Q calls it(60 seconds). Once stopped stay in plank position. Q does 10 Merkins as everyone else planks. When Q is done, he planks as the next person does 10 Merkins. This process continues until it comes back to Q.
  • Now, backwards bear crawl(60 seconds) and repeat the above.

Mosey time. Indian Run to the hill by the baseball field. Watch for holes.

Time for some Clock Merkins on the hill. (Haha, see what I did there?)

  • You guys are moving slow again. SHAKE N BAKE(5 Burpees)
  • While positioned midway up the hill, Q calls out a time and the group positions themselves in plank position as if they were clock hand on the clock. 2, 4, 8, and 10 o’clock. 10 Merkins at each position.

Now for some hill work.

  • 10 squats at the bottom and do Burp Merks at the top.
  • Burp Merk is a Burpee, but each time you to up to the top of the hill you increase the Merkin part of the Burpee by one until you reach 10. So ten trips up the hill will get you there.
  • Let’s mosey to the parking lot by the playground.

We’re not done yet! Time to fill up with some Gassers! (Haha, i did it again.)

  • Gasser- A 4 count Curb to Curb sprint with Merkins at the end of the 4 count. Two rounds with 10 and 15 Merkins.
  • Let’s mosey back.
  • NOPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SHAKE N BAKE(5 Burpees)
  • OK, now let’s head back…………
  • You guys are running too fast and leaving people behind. SHAKE N BAKE(5 Burpees)

Mary, no time for her.

  • You can run to the front as fast as you can but you cannot escape it. What is that delicious crunchy smell in the air? It tastes great and I helped. SHAKE N BAKE(5 Burpees)
  • And we are done, mumble chatter included.

Where am i?

16 Pax posted for a mid-week beat down at still the smoothest AO pavement in the land.

YHC made a few stops on Tuesday searching for glow balls so I could lay out a PGA theme (which would have required an extended disclaimer, and maybe a few releases signed) but, alas, no luck, so I had to revert to more standard fair.

Began a bit distracted based on McGee’s aggressive midnight tweet that indicated a Q-jack could be in process.  So I showed up ready to man-up and protect my turf – all that adrenaline made it hard to focus on the task at hand.  But experience and maturity pays off.  Sort of.

The Thang:

Disclaimer issued and off we go on a slow mosey (aka AIG) around the parking lot to circle up for COP.

COP:

  • IW x 25 IC – – never enough
  • 4 burpees OYO
  • Man-Maker merkins x 15 IC
  • 8 burpees OYO
  • Bottom Squat x 15
  • 12 burpees OYO
  • LBC x 25
  • 8 burpees OYO
  • SSH x 25
  • 4 burpees OYO

All warm – slow mosey to another unnamed part of the AO.

No merkin ladder.  Today is the merkin sandwich.

Lunge Walk
10 x Jump Squat

Run up the unnamed section of pavement

10 x diamond merkin

Sprint to monument

10 x hand release merkin

Sprint back to center

10 x wide arm merkin

Start over.

3-ish rounds through.

Mosey to parking lot.

4 x strides between light poles

Then over to the rock pile for a lifting rock.

We alternate press, curl, tricep press and squat with various mary (flutter, dolly, LBC, Russian twist), repeating the earlier rock exercise in each round.  Too much to describe, but it took awhile.

Then we do another round, with the rest period being a run around the light pole.

Mosey back to the launch point and finish with some side crunches and Freddie Mercury.

And that’s about it.

Moleskin

That was a tricky hard workout and my arms are starting to get sore as I author this.  Good continuous work by all the pax.  I think there are now a few memo’s in my permanent file.  Lost my mind out there.  Shame.  Or not.

Announcements

  • F3 Golf Tournament coming up Oct 27.
  • Big push to raise funds for #Give2Give to support LEAP into cities beyond the driving zone.
  • SPEEDFORNEED race coming up in South Charlotte.
  • Also an AMRAP event – details uncertain.

The Weinke Stays in the Car

Late yesterday I received the call from Madison that he was out of town and needed a substitute Q for Gumby.  Arriving this morning. Swiss Miss seemed impressed with YHC’s quick turn around time getting the music and routine down. Little did he know that I keep a spare Gumby weinke in the car for just such emergencies.

Forgetting the disclaimer, these men were brave enough to go forward without one and since Fireman Ed was already in corpse pose (I think he was there since the night before) that looked like a good place to start

DEVOTIONAL

“Then the LORD said to Joshua, ‘See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men. March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days. Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets. When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have the whole army give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the army will go up, everyone straight in.’” (Joshua 6:2-5)

Born in Egypt as a slave and then chosen as the assistant and successor to Moses, Joshua would’ve had a front row seat to all the miracles God performed during the Exodus. The Red Sea parting, manna falling from Heaven, water pouring from a rock — Joshua had seen his fair share of God doing the seemingly impossible. But just as time can prove God’s faithfulness, it can also put your faith to the test.

Joshua had witnessed Moses’ obedience over and over again, but as he faced the impenetrable walls of Jericho, this time the obedience was up to him. Joshua was instructed by God to lead his people around the city for seven days. This meant he had to lay his head down six nights in a row with the realization that the walls he had been walking around still stood tall and strong.

There aren’t many details recorded of what went through Joshua’s mind during those seven days, but what is recorded is his steadfast obedience. Surely he fought doubt, but with each day that passed, Joshua continued to lead his people around a wall that showed no evidence of falling.

Like Joshua, you have a choice to make when you don’t feel God. Will you keep walking even though it doesn’t seem to be working? Will you continue to believe God is moving even when the wall isn’t?

Your faith might be getting put to the test right now, but don’t focus on what hasn’t happened — focus on what has happened. If you’ve seen God do it before, He can do it again. Obedience is your responsibility; the outcome is God’s.

THE THANG

Warm up with butt kicks, toy solider, hip rotations, quad stretches, then onto the main event.

Concentrating on hip and IT band today, started out with a calf stretch and hamstring stretch using a chair as a prop. Then moving into a seated hip stretch. Then to a standing position: loosened up the shoulders, tricep and chest.

Moving to the ground: pigeon, low lunge, dead pigeon and inner thigh-groin stretch, finishing with chid’s pose.
