Cool Temps……Tense Bodies

Date: 2024-11-09 AO: olympus Q: Unplugged PAX: voodoo, MARTA, Floyd, flipper, Cheese Curd FNGs: None COUNT: 6 Beautiful Cool Morning for the Olympus Meatheads. We completed Week 2, the last ‘easy’ week, of the total tension program. The perfect workout was upon us….Laddered Squats and Cleans!
YHC arrives for his Broga at 640 to see evidence of pre-runners. Exactly 10 min later flipper and voodoo arrive from said run. I overheard them discussing the merits of long runs, must of been a short conversation.
voodoo talks some :poop: about Floyd not posting….30 seconds later Floyd shows up.
Playlist was 1970’s rock and seemed to please the PAX. Mood was up, that was all to change once the workout started.
WARMUP: SSH LSS Swings Around the world Halos Prying Squat
THE THANG: 1. Total Tension – Day 6 – Cleans – Presses – Squats – Renegade Rows – Start 1x1x1x 1 and ladder up the Cleans and Squat to 5x a piece (and then ladder down) while keeping the Presses and RR at 1x each Around set #4 a foul mouthed Wisconsinite arrive with 23 different sandbags. Claims he ‘forgot’ his KB. Not to worry we have extras.
Also during this time a certain recently Cancun vacationed PAX was trying to delay the start of the next set by asinine mumble chatter. Being a teacher of the middles schoolers, I know that type. The Hydra is strong in this one.
2, Next was our required 80 snatches. -5 rounds of 8 per side (16 ttl) I was not goaded into more reps this time.
3. Carries for 40ish M Suitcase l/r – with 3 SW, 2 CL, 1 Thruster at the turn Rack l/r – with 5 (e/s) lawnmowers at the turn Waiter l/r – with KB 5 Merkins (e/s) at the turn
4. Next was a high_tide inspired SQ-Sprint A crowd pleaser -8 GB squats – Sprint 40ish M -Repeat 3x
5. A few rounds of Voodoo Complex.
MARY: Keep The Worm in your prayers as he recovers and treats some throat cancer. You were missed today!
COT: With the time conscience brethren of the Rock!

Fear and Fridays

Date: 2024-11-08 AO: joust Q: hoover PAX: geraldo, gummy, hopper, puddin_pop, Focker, header, Swamp Thing, Orange Whip, ductwork, Cottonmouth, Hops, Horsehead, limey FNGs: None COUNT: 14 “I think fear and Fridays got an awful lot in common, they’re overdone and glorified and they always leave you wantin'” – Zach Bryan
A lot of people were feeling fear this week both before and after election day. The knives are out and the firing squad has circled up on the losing side. It’s all bro-hugs and diesel cybertrucks on the winning side. In the end, nothing really changes, the winners are gonna win until they lose and the losers always whine about their best. Overdone and glorified.
For some reason YHC couldn’t sleep last night. For the record, it had nothing to do with the election. Went to bed at 9:30, knowing I had the Q. Weinke was prepped and clothes were laid out ahead of time in anticipation of this morning’s events. Brushed teeth, turned off the light, and settled in for the night.
11:00 PM rolled around, still awake. 1:00 AM, still awake. Somewhere around 2:30, sleep finally caught up. At 4:45 YHC heard the alarm and shuffled off to Q what has become the premier Friday bootcamp on the east side of Area 51. I was fearful driving over that I wouldn’t be able to keep up due to lack of sleep. But thought the pax numbers would be around 6, so manageable.
Imagine my surprise when I stepped out of the car and 13 of Area 51’s finest were gabbing it up in the parking lot like a bunch of Democrats swapping quinoa recipes and debating the ethical implications of plastic straws. Fear settled back in.
With 2 hours of sleep and a crew that probably belonged at Hydra, YHC embraced the fear that he was likely going to lose control of this workout. a disclaimer was given, no one listened, and off we went.
WARMUP: run to the neighborhood across the street. run around the block. listen to mumblechatter about how much running we were doing. Do some exercises that included “standard” merkins.
THE THANG: In the ‘hood, as we’ll call it, we did a block party suicide. run to the first corner, do a called exercise, and run back to the start. Then run to the second corner, do the called exercise, run back stopping at the first corner to repeat the first exercise, then back to start. Do this until you’ve made it around the block. Lots of running, lots of chatter, and one poor pedestrian who had to navigate 14 sweaty chatty-kathys laying on the sidewalk doing “flutter kicks” that looked more like an out of place carnivore at a vegan potluck, having a seizure because someone gave them jackfruit short ribs and told them they were beef.
As we started to regroup waiting for the six, Pudding Pop asked if we were headed to the football field. (spoiler alert, yes) He decided that rangers lead the way, being neither a hockey player or in the armed services, and took off for the football field at a brisk walk. and by brisk I mean, fast enough to make a clean get-away but slow enough to question his life choices on a Friday morning.
Once the pax regrouped, we headed to the football field where someone forgot to pay the Duke power bill this month. The lights were out and Yeti was nowhere to be found. Obviously he was out of the country with embezzled Charlotte Christian tuition funds earmarked for the power bill. For some reason, the UFO crew thought it was a wise idea to run around chasing a light up dog toy in the dark. Like old Uncle Hoover always says, safety third.
The smart(er?) crowd decided to use the benches for some exercises and run the track, heckling the UFO crew along the way. Stops at the pull-up bars where we taunted Header while he tried to reach said pull-up bars. The Q contemplated hitting Grandma for a quick round of 7’s but Gummy said for at least the sixth time in 40 minutes that it might be a good idea to get back to the cars. Because, you know it was like a good 500 feet to the parking lot and might take more than a minute to get there. Pudding pop, the man of reconnaissance he is, had already scouted out the path and was halfway there.
We ended in the parking lot with some mary and the wise words of Mr. Bryan.
As it is second Friday, some of us went to Stacks for eggs and pancakes. We (rudely?) talked louder than the bible-study at the table next to us but said our prayers and tipped the waitress.
On a side note, first time meeting Swamp Thing, a recent FNG. He put in some solid work this morning for a 3+ mile bootcamp. T-claps.
“Yeah, I think fear and Fridays got an awful lot in common, they’re overdone and glorified and they always leave you wantin'” – Zach Bryan
Fear was a major factor in the outcome of the election. You were told for months to be afraid that the other person was going to ruin the country and then lead to believe that the solution was as simple as checking a box on a ballot. The solution isn’t that simple. As for Friday’s, well it’s just two days before Monday. Another day that ends in a “y”.
MARY: was there but without the obligatory spoonful of sugar for the daily red pill.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: pray for a quick recovery for The Worm, Geraldo is hosting a hot tub holiday gathering on December 8th, swimsuits optional but ugly sweaters are mandatory.
COT: Gummy was ready for COT at 5:31 and it showed.
To paraphrase Hops, we got something special here. Don’t be afraid to share it.
