The Game Plan BB: Respect and Greed

Six prayer warriors met this morning to study Proverbs 30.

These verses provide us with guidance of respect and greed.

The PAX identified the following takeaways from today’s readings.

—————————————————————————————————————————-

Proverbs 30:6 ~ Do not add to His words, lest he rebuke you and you be found a liar.

Takeaway ~ We need to intrepret God’s words for their true meaning. Do we hold ourselves accountable to God’s instructions or do we try to revise them to our favor?

—————————————————————————————————————————-

Proverbs 30:11, 17 ~ There are those who curse their fathers and do not bless their mothers. The eye that mocks a father and scorns to obey a mother will be picked out by the ravens of the valley and eaten by the vultures.

Takeaway ~ It is important to honor our parents. The lack of respect for our parents breeds arrogance and eventually results in disrespect for others.

—————————————————————————————————————————-

Proverbs 30:15 ~ The leech has two daughters: Give and Give. Three things are never satisfied; four never say, “Enough”

Takeaway ~ God provides to meet our needs. Pray for His wisdom and strength to avoid greed.

Game Plan: Humility & Praise

12 prayer warriors met this winter morning to study Proverbs 27.

These verses provide guidance of counsel, humility and praise.

The PAX identified the following takeaways from today’s readings.

—————————————————————————————————————————-

Proverbs 27:6 ~ Wounds from a sincere friend are better than many kisses from an enemy.

Takeaway ~ Good friends provide us with advice that helps us but it sometimes hurts to hear their perspective . Wicked people offer poor advice that sounds good. Listen to your friends even if their advice is not what you do want to hear.

 —————————————————————————————————————————-

Proverbs 27:7 ~ A person who is full refuses honey, but even bitter food tastes sweet to the hungry.

Takeaway ~ Arrogant people tend to ignore the advice of others which impacts their ability to uncover blind spots. Continue to hunger for the counsel of others who walk in God’s wisdom.

—————————————————————————————————————————-

Proverbs 27:21 ~ Fire tests the purity of silver and gold, but a person is tested by being praised.

Takeaway ~ We can tell a lot about a person’s character by observing how they respond to praise. Glory hounds take and steal credit for various things. Good leaders redirect praise to others who contributed to their success, starting with God.

1/3/14 Game Plan: Honor & Self-Control

Seven prayer warriors met this winter morning to study Proverbs 25.

Its verses provide God’s wisdom regarding honor, forgiveness and self-control.

The PAX identified the following takeaways from today’s readings.

———————————————————————————————————————————-

Proverbs 25: 4, 5 ~ Remove the impurities from silver, and the sterling will be ready for the silversmith. Remove the wicked from the king’s court, and his reign will be made secure by justice.

Takeaway ~ Wise leaders seek good advisors and avoid letting the wicked influence their decisions. Does your counsel consist of wise rather than wicked advisors?

———————————————————————————————————————————-

Proverbs 25: 13 ~ Like the cold of snow in the time of harvest is a faithful messenger to those who send him; he refreshes the soul of his masters.

Takeaway ~ “Faithful messegners”are being referenced like faithful and hard-working employees who make their employers proud. Do our actions show our faith in God and make Him proud?

 ———————————————————————————————————————————

Proverbs 25: 21 ~ If your enemies are hungry, give them food to eat. If they are thirsty, give them water to drink.

Takeaway ~ Praying for those who have harmed us shows that we trust that God will bring justice. Are praying for those who hurt us rather than holding judgment/grudges against them?

12/20/13 Game Plan BB: Money-Women-Envy

Nine prayer warriors met this morning to study Proverbs 23.

This chapter provides divine wisdom regarding the topics of money, women and envy.

These topics were important thousands of years ago and are still relevant today.

The PAX identified the following takeaways from today’s readings.

—————————————————————————————————————–

Proverbs 23: 4, 5 ~ Do not toil to acquire wealth; be discerning enough to desist. When your eyes light on it, it is gone, for suddenly it sprouts wings, flying like an eagle toward heaven.

Takeaway ~ People have earned/won a lot of money and lost everything. How much energy do we invest in chasing earthly vs heavenly treasures?

—————————————————————————————————————–

Proverbs 23: 17, 18 ~ Let not your heart envy sinners, but continue in the fear of the Lord all the day. Surely there is a future, and your hope will not be cut off.

Takeaway ~ People tend to admire those who appear to be successful without God’s wisdom. Pray for those who are not living with God’s wisdom.  Thank Him for all of the blessings that He has provided you.

 —————————————————————————————————————–

Proverbs 23: 27, 28 ~ For a prostitute is a deep pit; an adulteress is a narrow well. She lies in wait like a robber and increases the traitors among mankind.

Takeaway ~ The American culture glorifies promiscuous living. Be wary of temptations that lure you into being unfaithful. We are not faithful in God’s eyes if we are unfaithful in our earthly relationships.

The bible teaches us to be slow anger. See the verse below for reference.

Until the next time, challenge yourself to be patient and to be the calming voice for others.

See you in the gloom!

Proverbs 17 (Game Plan)

We revisited the purpose of the Proverbs prior to reading the verses this morning.

The word “Proverb” originates from the Hebrews and means “to rule or to govern.” Solomon wrote the Proverbs to provide the people of Israel with divine wisdom and moral instruction.

The PAX identified the following takeaways from today’s readings.

——————————————————————————————————————————-

Proverbs 17:5 ~ Whoever mocks the poor insults his Maker; he who is glad at calamity will not go unpunished.

Takeaway ~ Be fair to all of God’s people.  Mocking people who are poor, weak or different is mocking God who created all of us.

—————————————————————————————————————————

Proverbs 17:8 ~ A bribe is like a magic stone in the eyes of the one who gives it; wherever he turns he prospers.

Takeaway ~ The bible condones bribes as stated in Exodus 23:8 And you shall take no bribe, for a bribe blinds the clear-sighted.

—————————————————————————————————————————

Proverbs 17:24 ~ The discerning sets his face toward wisdom, but the eyes of a fool are on the ends of the earth.

Takeaway ~ Are we focused on God’s wisdom?  Reassess your goals to ensure they are aligned with the eternal game plan.

Moral Mentor

Points to Ponder:

Moral mentors can help keep to us aligned with God’s wisdom and hold us accountable to live in His word. Being part of the PAX gives us an opportunity to surround ourselves with like-minded men. Make a connection with someone from the PAX to establish/maintain a moral mentoring relationship. This mentor relationship can help us navigate through challenging times by using God’s wisdom as our compass.
