13 dudes didn’t make it to the Capt Jack statue this morning and headed for the sinister Sardis Forest hills. Twas a cooler morning, but that didn’t keep the shirts on – >50% went skins before leaving the gravel lot.
Here’s what you missed:
Launch from gravel lot. Left on Blue Ridge. Right on Mountainview around the dark loop, bear Right back onto Old Bell up to the Yucca plant. At the yucca we regrouped for instructions. Out: Head back down OB, Right on Wilby all the way past Chester’s crib, to Sardis. Back: Turn around at Sardis, back up Wilby to the Yucca. That’s one lap. AMRAP before 6:08. We met at the flagpole for the 2nd most patriotic Monday morning symbolism in Charlotte and cited the Pledge of Allegiance around the neon green flagpole. Jailbreak back to the parking lot.
Humble Observations:
- Showing up early to the workout formerly-known-as-Muthaship has a few hidden perks. If the stars align and your radio is on 96.9 The Kat, and you’re facing the Duke building, when the clock strikes 0500, the Star Spangled Banner plays, and the Duke building lights up in a motion-LED American flag. No joke.
- We passed Chester’s place a few times this morning. Each time, the anticipation grew. It was sketchy. Lap 1: Interior lights flick on. Lap 2: No visible observations outside, but the tinge of Pall Mall smoke tickled the nostrils on the run by. Lap 3: Don’t look left. Don’t look left! I looked left. He does exist. Nothing more to say about the experience. Lap 4: By now the sun’s high in the sky and daylight abounds, and like that, he’s gone.
- Swiper, Tan-Fletch, and Beaker led the crew through the darkness. Tan-Fletch, coming off a week south-of-the-border (not the one in Dillon, SC) seemed to be riding Montezuma’s intestinal roller coaster. Far as I can tell, he survived.
- Gloss and Bald-Hops (et. al) went “full Gloss” out of the gate. Strong.
- Geraldo felt comfortable noting that from Horsey, the Lauren Conrad hill in 5 Knollz was “out of reach” and too far away. Challenge accepted, brother.
- Solid crew out there this morning grinding on some long, steep, hills.
H/T to the Muthaship for it’s farewell voyage. Can rest easy knowing that spiral will always hold a little sweat/gas/emesis from a lot of us. As the saying goes: often imitated, never duplicated. RIP Mutha.
If your monday 0515 agenda now has a hole, Horsey McHorse is accepting new members. Half-off initiation fee through July 31st. See Tiger Rag for details.
HB out.
