Here is King Ghidorah! And Happy Birthday ShopDog!

Here is King Ghidorah! And Happy Birthday ShopDog!

Good morning gents, Ackbar here. Big day at Impromptu as Transporter, Chatterbox, and I (Ackbar) are the Tag Team Site Qs for 2021! Transporter suggested we should be the 3 Amigos (starring Steve Martin), but as a nerd I preferred King Ghidorah, the 3 headed monster that battles Godzilla who shoots lightning out his mouths. So Ghidorah it is! To celebrate we broke down our workout into 3 segments led by each of us. And ShopDog shared it was his birthday! This moment of celebration was later regretted….

Warm Up

  • Chatterbox starts us off, Mosey to the front of the Middle School
  • 15 Side-Straddle Hops
  • 15 Imperial Walkers
  • No time to stretch. Damascus lamented the loss of his beloved calf stretches

The Thang, Part 1

  • 10 Donkey Kicks
  • 10 Big Boy Sit-Ups
  • Take a lap around the parking lot
  • Halfway pause for 10 Jump Squats
  • Continue until the 15 minute mark.

Part 2

  • My turn! Mosey to the steps.
  • At the top, 10 Mike Tysons
  • Run down the ramp, 10 Mountain Climbers
  • Run to the bottom of the steps, 10 Big Boy Sit-Ups
  • Calf Lifts up the stairs.
  • Rinse and repeat till the 15 minute mark
  • I made the mistake of bragging how I was not putting burpees into my Q as I’ve been accused of doing every time. Famous last words.

Part 3

  • Transporter leads us to the front of the high school.
  • Damascus laments that Transporter is closing us out.
  • At the high school, Transporter wants to celebrate ShopDog’s 56 Birthday!…
  • 10 burpees every minute, and then 6 for the last minute.
  • Bloody hell that was rough. Personally, I changed Shop’s birthday number to probably 40 something.
  • Mosey back to the parking lot.

Moleskin

  • The first Friday of the month twice now has been raining. But at least it wasn’t 35 degrees but 41. Big difference.
  • Chatterbox showed off his fantastic tech skills with the family photo, using his phone and then his watch to “snap” it. Whoa!
  • Everyone busted their butts today! And a good turnout considering the weather.
  • Including Swarm-ers again in the count here. I can’t keep track who is who when we circle up
  • Beware the Ghidorah!!!

Annoucements

  • CSAUP is tomorrow!
  • Shop Dog was the 6th man. He shared how important it is to have good brothers and neighbors to lift you in your time of need, and SD thanked the group and beyond for love for him and his family as they’ve battled Covid and grieve the loss of his father. SD implored us to take the time for build and foster these relationships, they matter.
  • Transporter took us out.

May the Force be with you.

No running? No gear? No problem.

The challenge? A no running workout with no gear. The reason? To prove it could be done. The outcome? See below.

5 other PAX joined me this morning. The weather wasn’t looking good just 15 minutes earlier so kudos to these guys who braved the rain anyways. We were rewarded with a reprieve and only the lightest of mists. Leave the coupons and bricks in the car. I wish I’d taken a picture of Bread Bowl’s face when I told him “no gear”. It didn’t compute.

Moleskin

So there it is. It’s possible to do a no running, no gear workout. Gazelles like to run and it’s often a “break” to rest between the exercise portions of the workout. With today’s workout there was nowhere to hide. No gear to injure yourself with (if that’s a concern). Just reps on reps.

A note on the T-Clap walk. Anyone who thinks T-Claps was a break clearly hasn’t done T-Claps before. Hold your arms out to your side then lift them both above your head and clap. Repeato. Do that for 100 yards and tell me your arms aren’t burning.

Anyways, the gauntlet is down. The challenge is here. Drop the excuses. Diesel is looking for Qs in the coming months and you’re next.

There for a minute I thought I was going to have another Waxhaw Express situation.  Sugar comes rolling in at 5:12 then comes Easy at 5:16.  I’m gonna be honest we didn’t workout that hard today knowing what is ahead of us tomorrow.  The hardest part of the workout was the big boy/american hammer web.

Thank you Transporter for taking up out!

OG Day at Cerberus

A few days ago Zinfandel called me because he was scared to Q Cerberus his parents were coming into town last night and needed a Q sub.  Cerberus is always a fun site to Q with all the options (two parking decks, back streets, dangerous road crossings, the Rea Farms green space, LOTS of parking lots, etc.) so the decision was easy.

The weather forecast looked spotty, 80% chance of rain but Cerberus has decks so who would show?

4 pax from varying regions initially converged on Waverly, 1 to come later

  • 4.5 miles covered, whoa, didn’t mean for that to happen

MOLESKIN:

What a great site.  Parking decks are non-existent in the Haw so it’s fun to have the ramps to run on every now and then.  They were part of the weinke regardless of the weather but it worked out today even though the rain was only a light sprinkle at best.

Towards the end of the first parking lot set Snowflake popped out of nowhere.  At first YHC thought we were getting lapped by Alf or run up on by a security guard.

Small workouts are great sometimes.  Today was no exception.  Nowhere to hide.

Talk about some OGs.  Ice9, Snowflake, Alf.  That’s a heavy hitting trio of hard work and trying to keep up.

Swimmers is always pushing the envelope.  He also has a very keen eye and quickly noticed the tampon on the ground in the otherwise clean parking deck.

There were no rests today with this group, maybe that’s why were able to get through everything and still make it back to COT at 6:15am on the dot.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  • Prayers for Jennings Palmer as he treats his pediatric cancer in Memphis. Prayers for his strength and healing.  Prayers for his medical providers, family, and support system.
  • Waxtravaganza is TOMORROW! Leaves from the Floater parking lot at 7:00am for ruckers/walkers and 7:30am for everyone else.  See you there!

The Body Shop has a side hustle: washboards

8 PAX joined Chipotle in his side hustle selling washboards.  After a mosey and a little warm-up, the routine was Ab exercises x 100, run a lap, merkins x 20, run a lap, next ab exercise.

  • Crunches
  • LBC
  • Right side crunches x 50 (neck killers)
  • left side crunches x 50 (neck killers)
  • Pretzel right side
  • Pretzel left side
  • flutter
  • Freddy Mercury
  • Pistol crunches right
  • Pistol crunches left

Mosey back to COT for some Chippy Cross.

When the PAX are thinking of vomiting from ab work on about the third set, you know something is doing its job.  About 200 merkins + about 950 ab reps make for a solid day at the Body Shop.  And afterwards, when One Star was looking for Qs for the new Friday 0600 workout Last Call, that kind of workout makes you the only one not asked to get on the Q list soon.

Good crew this morning and good to see Bypass coming down to the garage.

Two Princes

One, two princes kneel before you
That what I said now
Princes, princes who adore you
Just go ahead now
One has diamonds in his pockets
That’s some bread, now
This one said he wants to buy you rockets
Ain’t in his head, now

Who it was:

Madison, Chicken Wing, Full House, Cage, OT, Christmas, Retread, HH

What it was:

  • Run to Christ Covenant
  • Old Man Warmup
  • Partner Up
  • Run the long loop w/ 100 team merkins
  • Run the Brewsters loop w/ 100 team jump squat
  • Run the big hill route (3x) with 200 team chest tappers
  • Run back to launch
  • 2X gasser time killer
  • Mary with the Peakers – follow commands from the Man with the Mask (sounds familiar)

How it was:

It was cold, that’s how it was.  I’m not sure I ever warmed up.  Parts of my body may never be seen again.

Not a ton of chatter out there . . . friendly group.  All of the hate must funnel over to the Colony Place Teeter on Thursdays for the DST workout, because this is a pretty nice group of chaps.

It was nice working out in the Rona Testing/Vaccination parking lot for a bit.  I think I’ll burn my shoes now.

Fun Fact:  In 9 years of syndication, Hamilton Burger only defeated Perry Mason twice in court.

Gotta run – date night at Showbiz Pizza, where a kid can be a kid.  This neckbeard ain’t gonna comb itself.

your pal,

HH

Half a Dirty Dozen

5 PAX braved the elements to push themselves to get better.  But wait you say, the backblast title says half a dozen and that is 6.  Aye, more on that later.  Happy Meal, Midriff, Rousey and Kelly were the original cast of characters to join YHC for said workout.  YHC put a preblast out to recommend wearing gloves because we were doing rock work and those bad boys get cold in 20 degree weather.  The PAX listened and here is what went down.

The Thang:

5:30 and disclaimer given.  We were travelling to St. Matt’s so YHC wanted to break up the trip there by moseying halfway to Harris Teeter for the warmup.  Rousey had been telling me that he had EH’d a buddy and felt like he would make it.  Something inside YHC had me checking back at launch for stragglers but none to be seen.  We arrived at the HT parking lot for the warmup.  We were on our first warmup, Imperial Walkers, when either Midriff or Happy Meal noticed a red truck slowly tracking the theater parking lot.  Midriff being one of the better runners in the group and always on point volunteered to run back to launch to scope it out.  YHC provided Midriff the coordinates to the final destination and he was off.  We proceeded to do IW, SSH, potato pickers, arm circles, Peter Parkers, 6 inches and Parker Peters in attempts to a) warm up sufficiently and b) give time for Midriff to head back to launch to check out the curious red truck.

YHC proceeded to lead the group to the GNC for some curb merkins when to our delight Midriff caught up with FNG in tow.  And yes, it was Rousey’s EH to complete the half a dirty dozen.  After some curb merkins to warm up it was time for the main event.  Mosey to St. Matt’s where everyone grabbed a lifting rock AND and a running rock.  Starting at first speed bump crank out 15 curls, 15 shoulder presses and 15 tricep extensions.  Then grab your running rock, run to the first speed bump for 10 merkins.  With running rock run back to original speed bump.  Grab your lifting rock for same lifts then running rock to 2nd speed bump for 10 merkins.  Continue the speed bump suicides until reaching the 5th speed bump which YHC had marked with cones.  At this point the PAX had done 75 curls, 75 shoulder presses and 75 tri extensions but the other half of the St. Matt’s circle still needed to be explored.  Reverse course and do the other direction of St. Matt’s circle but the lifting was now 15 bent over rows. 15 Romanian dead lifts and 15 bench presses with legs up.  We got halfway through this side when it was time to head back to launch.  Stopping halfway for more curb merkins then some backwards running and lunge walking to keep it exciting, we arrived at launch.

Ye Old Moleskin

Such a fun group this morning.  I am so glad that Happy Meal has started to venture back down to South Charlotte to work out with his SOB brethren.  His constant encouragement of “Good work. Good work” has always motivated me.  Speaking of good to see someone, it was fantastic to have Kelly back out after a several month hiatus with a new baby.  I noted that Kelly picked a heck of a day to make his triumphant return with temps in the low 20’s, but when it was all said and done Kelly appeared to only be reinvigorated by pushing himself in the Charlotte tundra.  And what else can be said of Mr. Reliable, Midriff.  You know he is going to show up, put in WORK, motivate others and look after the PAX.  Way to be a HIM.  Does anyone post more regularly than Rousey?  The man has boundless energy and picked some big boy rocks to lift and run with.  Didn’t faze him a bit.  And Rousey EH’d a FNG who we dubbed “Jerry World”.  JW is from the Dallas area and does not like the Cowboys so he got named after Jerry Jones’ prized possession.  He said that he had been lifting weights but had not been doing cardio.  You couldn’t tell it because JW was at the front all morning and was a natural.  Fun fact, JW was a high school ref/umpire in football, basketball and baseball back in Texas (I almost named him after the most famous umpire of all time, Frank Drebin).

Warm up

Warm up lap around the block behind the church. Circle up in front of the church.

20 x SSH

20 x imperial walkers

5 merkins

5 diamond merkins (for most, Zinfandel is somehow not capable of putting his hands together in a diamond shape, so just 5 more regular merkins for him)

Various stretches.

15 mountain climbers

The Thang

Mosey over to the long street behind Dream Chasers.  At each light do 5 burpee’s until you reach the end of the street.

Do 10 T-merkins and run a lap around the loop that connects N. Providence, Miller Dr, and Blythe mill Rd. (the DO NOT ENTER sign road) and do 10 more T-merkins at the end of the lap.  I had no idea whatsoever but there is a segment around this loop.  I wonder who the Champ is??

Head back towards Dream Chasers.  Paula Abdul’s on the way.  Up 2 lights (20 speed skaters) back 1 light (10 Bobby Hurley’s).  Cut this one short at E. Price st because I was getting board and Chicken Little recommended Burpee’s at KJH as the next stop.  Not wanting to upset the PAX, I obliged and we headed to KJH.

Head over to KJH. Suicides up KJH.  5 hand release merkins at the bottom and 5 burpees at every stop heading up the hill.

Mosey to COT.  wait, another recommendation from the PAX.  not sure who it was this time but someone pointed out the wall on the left.  To the wall we go 20 Mike Tyson’s at the wall and done! (Carb Load recommended have a nice day but we ran out of time).  next time Carb Load…I promise.

The Moleskin

Another successful post at Floater.  Great group of guys this morning!  Appreciate you letting me lead you.  Special shoutout to the Mash Unit.  It was down right cold out there this morning.

“They took down the @%&!? monkey bars!”

Wednesday morning at The Maul was pretty cold – we only covered about 2.5 miles, but kept the Pax moving.  Thankfully, YHC was freezing.  Continuing the Co-Q Four Year Anni Roadshow, me and Chopper were ready for another great group of guys, typical for this AO. Not to be disappointed, we even had a three-peat.  Thanks for not fartsacking guys – we had a good time Qing this group.  Less mumblechatter without PJ though.

Moleskin:

Man it was good to be back and Qing.  I Q’d in December and felt like it was my VQ, just ask Das and LongHaul, they laughed most of the workout…

Chopper led us down the MH and on the way Mic Check insulted Chippy so bad he left… something about never showing up?  Sorry Chippy, Mic Check didn’t mean it.  During the COP Chopper was whispering his ‘next exercise’ and right before I yelled over to speak up I realized we were practically in the neighbors yards.  Great call…

Tagalong, Sweatwater, Mic Check and War Eagle were leading the way most of the morning.  Tagalong and War Eagle were fairly new when I started right?  You guys have grown so much over the last few years.

When we got to the playground Chopper called out the pull-ups, in one of the funniest moments that morning, Sweetwater let him know they pulled the @$%&!? monkey bars out.  Hysterical… modify and keep rolling.

Sweat Water, Midriff, Trickle all made each of the Four Year workouts – appreciate you guys.  Midriff missed the picture each time (photo creds). We’ll have to work on setting a timer so you can join the photo.  At least then your wife won’t think you are just out driving around until the kids settle down.

Loogie and PP were there Four years ago, pretty sure, but they don’t remember…that’s what happens when you turn 50 guys (respect).

I’m fortunate as many of the Pax are, I live close enough to attend the Waxhaw beat downs and still make it to the SOB homeland in short order.  It was an honor to lead, thanks for giving us the opportunity.

Fredo and Chopper OUT…. SYITG

PP – Thanks for the take out!
