First time Q’ing at DaVinci – such a great AO
4 PAX arrived for some fun and excitement at DaVinci this morning. Oh wait a minute, Triple 7 coming in hot from doubling down at Stonehenge, as YHC is giving the disclaimer on the move. 5 PAX accounted for.
Goal of the day was to enjoy some new territory for DaVinci. PAX mosey over to the Best Buy parking lot for some COP… In the distance is it an Olympic sprinter out for a morning run? Nope its Kid Rock smoking the pavement – second double downer from Stonehenge. These guys are beasts! 6 PAX accounted for – begin the COP: Squats, Merkins, Imperial walker, Windmill
The Thang:
Approximate route: http://www.strava.com/routes/6307373
Trail #1: Head out to Ardrey Kell Rd, then left and down the path behind shopping center – Mosey to the hood. In the hood… LBCs while getting instructions.
Head right and down Bullock Greenway Blvd – 5 burpees at each break between houses and at the corner (25 burpees), plank it up, wait for 6.
Mosey down Trail #2 – take the 2nd left after the power lines. Enough of the mosey – last half of trail, increase pace to 80% speed. Plank at the road for the 6, then a short mosey.
Stop for some instruction – 5 merkins at every 2nd driveway on left (45 merkins), plank it up at the next left turn.
Head out to the power lines. Partner up.
Mosey to Tomlin Green – 4 corners:
Time is running short… Head out of the hood and over towards the start and the play zone…
6 Pack – 1 pull-up, 5 merkins; 2/4; 3/3; 4/2, 5/1
~4 min left… 5 derkins, take a lap around the fences, 5 more derkins
Finish up our time with some LBCs in cadence
Circle up for COT – Thanks to Bevo for bringing us out
Moleskin:
Triple 7 and Kid Rock were the real deal today, both with a double down from Stonehenge and neither showing signs of slowing down throughout the workout. Kid Rock had his eyes on some extra credit hills towards the end, but YHC convinced him that time was running out. Triple 7 had is eyes on some stylish kaleidoscope socks from a passer by runner – I expect these socks will show up in the future.
Strawberry and Heartbreaker were among the earlier arrivers. Getting in some extra miles from a pre and post-run from the homestead. These guys never quit.
Great to see Bevo out this morning at DaVinci – showing off the meaning of “respect” – leaving it all out on the pavement/turf.
Special shout out to Triple 7 for materializing some cold H2O for hydrating the PAX after a great workout.
Great way to start the day today. Thanks for Lead!

18 brave lads, including 1 FNG posted at Centurion for a beatdown to start their Friday off right. YHC hopefully delivered what they paid for. The pax were summarily and quickly disclaimed, and 17 launched into the gloom (Scabby was late….again…this time due to spilling merlot on the run in due to the thought of YHC’s Q).
The Thang & Ye Olde Moleskine:
1st Q fail of the morning happened pre-launch when YHC wrongly welcomed Fireman Ed when it was in fact Fire Marshall Bill. Apologized profusely to Fire Marshall Bill…no offense Fireman Ed.

Some more Mary when all pax finished, mostly led by Flipper, site FNG at Centurion. Many happy returns.
Also did 13 alternating leg lifts IC while in elbow plank…though the pax all stopped at 11 trying to anticipate the Q’s count. Don’t do that!

So we did 44 of a lot of different exercises as YHC turned 44 yesterday. You’re welcome fellas.
Champagne would have been proud of this one as the called exercises really minimized cheating….Chelms & Ickey were grumbling.
YHC called Ickey out on Twitter…achieving the assumed HC. Ickey promised to actually do the Ickey Shuffle if we had 20 pax, but alas, we were 2 short. Should have done it anyway!
Strong work out there by everyone. Welcome to Lassativo (FNG Matt S). YHC had to rename as I was informed we already have an Ex-Lax in the A51 pax….though methinks he doesn’t post anymore? Anyway – Lassativo is Italian for Laxative. Pretty sure Matt is of Italian heritage, but even if not, it’s a good nickname.
Glad Scabby made it after spilling merlot – hope you’re feeling better. You’re usually earlier when you run in.
Kotters to Escargot – great to have you back out. Many painful returns.
And great to see Flipper posting on a weekday. His first post at Centurion and 1st weekday post in Area 51.
Please chime in with any anecdotes, rebuttals, etc. Hope you’re hurting, that’s why you post gentleman.

YHC got a message from scheduled Kevlar Q Hairball yesterday at 1:55pm. Said something about getting pinched so YHC inquired if bail were necessary. Negative. Not pinched, but in a pinch with work. Crisis averted. YHC bailed, no pun intended, on a previous Kevlar Q due to injury and jumped on the opportunity. With little time and little AO knowledge, YHC got to setting a simple plan. Cars kept pulling in a rather large group of men was assembled that included 3 FNG’s. YHC said hello and introduced himself to each new man. Spoke a good bit with Philip, later named Bravo Mic. More on Bravo Mic later. Thorough disclaimer given over the side conversations and mumblechatter of the group, which was a workout constant today. Solid 2F.

After the 2nd called exercise, one of our FNG’s, Philip, later to be named Bravo Mic, approached YHC with a look of desperation. YHC may have failed to mention that Bravo Mic is a super-nice guy who was clearly excited for his first post. He was pushing hard thus far. Again, he approached YHC and said the following: “Hey man, I am sorry, but I really have to do a #2. Please tell me where the best place for me to do that would be.” Dang, we all know how Bravo Mic was feeling in that moment. First post and the guy has to drop duece. Well, Bravo Mic, QIC has absolutely no idea where the best place to drop duece is at this particular AO, as YHC has posted here only 3 times prior. Alf said to ask TR, who calmly said, “Yeah, we can take him over to the tennis courts.” YHC had no idea where he was referring and asked him to lead the group. He obliged at a rapid pace. Alas, a portajon took form in the gloom, right next to the tennis courts. Boom, problem solved. Mumblechatter at this point revolved around suggestions for exercises while Bravo Mic did his business. People’s Chair against the portajon? Negative. Mary it was.

Fairly certain Tiger Rag’s playing of the Sugar Hill Gang’s Rapper’s Delight in the skin-off Jeep broke a Matthews noise ordinance, or at least pushed the boundaries. Runstopper-esque. Best part about Rapper’s Delight was watching Fault Line who immediately began singing along and busting out fly dance moves. FL proceed to ask YHC if he was even born in 1979, when the song was released. Yep, sure was. September 1979 and YHC, at 2 years 9 months of age, was jamming out to the ABC’s and Mary Had a Little Lamb, rather than this sweet beat, that is, as Wikipedia.com states, “generally considered to be the song that introduced hip hop music to audiences in the United States and around the world.” Though not the first song to feature rapping, it was an important song, for sure. #251 on Rolling Stone magazines list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and #2 on VH1’s 100 Greatest Hip Hop Songs list. That, gentlemen, was today’s playlist. Good choice TR. Just so you all know, the long version is 35 seconds longer than 14 minutes. Shorty is 6:30. Pick your poison.
3 FNG’s hung tough today as we covered just under 3 miles total. I blame Bravo Mic for relatively high mileage. His rapid onset bowel distress completely Q-jacked the workout and added extra running. He got heckled slightly, but it could have been much worse. FNG needs to drop deuce. No problem, we will lead you to a portajon. Sure, it threw us off course and caused a deviation in the plan, but we would do it again without question. Friendly banter, sure, but without question. Simply put, we want you to be part of the group, to belong. If we can help you to meet a need, we will do our best. If you need our help, we will give it. Welcome to F3, Bravo Mic, Wormwood, and Blue Nugget. We are glad you posted today. Keep posting. Blue Nugget’s name was given by Bulldog, who seemed very pleased that the name was chosen. You see, the group stalled out on FNG Taylor with regard to name. Bulldog later stated that he ate at Chic-Fil-A yesterday. Inspiration comes from many places.
Did we simply forget about the bathroom stop while naming Bravo Mic? May call for a rename. Anyhow, Bravo Mic told YHC how much he enjoyed the workout and how great it was to close it out in prayer. Told YHC it made his arm hairs stand up. Yep, he showed me, they were standing up. Again, keep posting brother.
Some fast dudes out there today at Kevlar. You know who you are. Also many PAX using the workout as a recovery day and showing varying levels of effort to meet their needs. YHC understands. BRR is right around the corner and injury is to be avoided. Apologies for the sprints go to Alf. With the bathroom stop, my game was thrown.
Thankful to lead this group of men this morning. Mumblechatter and side convo was abundant. YHC took the group out in prayer.

Mosey loop around school with break along the way for some peoples chair and arm presses.
Quick Mary back at start and end.
Glad to see so many people make it out to the launch this morning. We got started by mixing in the playground allowing us to get the needed pull up work many of us needed. A lot of complaints about how thick the bar way, Kevorkian mentioned that her prefers to grip a thin pole. Only got a chance to explore a small part of the campus this morning, make sure to come back and explore the rest with us.

3 men showed up for impromptu extra mileage. One continued to the track to do his own thing (JRR Tolkien). The others (Gumbo and YHC) returned to greet the PAX. However, were a little late and barely got back in time.
After some incoherent babbling about the plan for the day, 23 launched off into the dark to head to the track for 60 minutes of unrelenting tempo pace.
During the warmup, some of the PAX were remarking that the warmup was no longer a social gathering where the legs were gently warmed to running speed before cranking up the speed at the hill. Now it seems there a bunch of bad arses out there pushing it from the word “go”.
I think this means people are nearing their final state of readiness for the thing they call BRR. Congrats men, you have trained hard and it is paying off.
This will be a short Backblast due to the fact it has all been said. You are ready!
15 Mountain Goats gathered at South Charlotte Middle School for another installment of Mountain Goat. Warm-up at 0500 and launch at 0515. Format was to run an extended distance at a theshold-ish pace… which is about 1-1.5 min/mile over your mile race pace. Here is how it went down:
Total 5 to 5.5 miles. EXCELLENT JOB BY EVERYONE!!
Moleskine:
This is a somewhat new format. YHC wanted to work on pacing, especially for those planning to run in the BRR… and to maintain a pace faster than a “fellowship” pace for an extended distance.
We learned some points from the run, and will definitely like feedback from the PAX… but I would like to propose that we add this to our rotation to practice longer distances as sustained paces that are moderately “uncomfortable.”
It is absolutely AWESOME that Tweetsie and Lois keep coming back! They are attending multiple workouts in Area 51, and giving 100% every time! They are “in-training” for BRR 2017… we confirmed that this morning… (I didn’t hear them deny the challenge!!)
T-Claps to Geraldo for keeping Lois company during the run, and Frasier for keeping Tweetsie company! Iron Sharpens Iron, and Geraldo and Frasier showed that this morning!
Great to have Dumpster Fire join… Quick story… when I was coming off of Rosecliff onto Strawberry, I passed a lady walking her dog. Then as I rounded the corner, there’s this guy with no shirt on lying in a driveway stretching. So as I pass, I’m thinking it looks like Dumpster Fire, but then I’m thinking it’s a homeowner that is just out getting ready to run… IT’S DUMPSTER FIRE!! He hops up, and all I can think of is… “What in the world did that lady think when she saw Dumpster Fire lying in that driveway?” And why in the driveway??? I will expect DF to give his side of the story!!
Pele… you continue to rock!!
Great to have Draino back out for the festivities. Venus… always a pleasure to have you join!
Voodoo, Daisy, Sensei, The Mouth, Nomad were strong as usual… and great to have Retread back from his extended vacation!

Sensational Birthday Q from Hacker. This is supposed to be moderate and it was a moderate as 300 Merkins, 200 squats and 105 burpees can be. We welcomed FNG Daisy Duke this AM. He works for Habitat for Humanity and was pretty fast until round two of Hacker’s Moderate workout. Also, Strikeout made his F3 return after two years of Achilles rehab and said he felt pretty good. YE NAKED MOLESKINE
Well, that was a grinder. YHC had a heavy leg work-out planned weeks ago. However, as YHC has his first GORUCK event in 2 days, last minute audible was called to try something less leg-intensive. A partial test drive last night had YHC almost give up around snatch ladder number 6. Thinking it was just the heat/humidity/late night fatigue/loneliness, decision was made to proceed on today. Turns out YHC was smoked very early. The swings were supposed to be a welcome break from the exercises, but YHC had trouble completing the 30 reps called each time. A goal of 450 was too ambitious. Would have been much better for a 60 minute work-out. Honest swing count today was closer to 375, due to running out of time at the bottom of the last ladder, and then minus any modifications that may or may not have been made…
All the PAX were working HARD this morning and the sweat was dripping from the first set. There wasn’t much rest today so it was a good cardiac work out too. It was a great group today, with some meathead vets and some F3 vets who chose meathead to get a break from the running.
Welcome to Lulu (FNG) (Dominic), brought out by Witch Doctor. This was a brutal work out and you did great hanging in there for 45 long minutes. Keep coming back. It may not get easier, but you will get stronger, and it get’s more and more fun. Dominic is a recent biology grad from Boca Raton and currently works at a yoga studio, hence the name. He admitted to recently buying his first pair of lulu lemon apparel. I can concur that it was probably worth the money.
There was not much mumble chatter today. The most visited topic was the BRR. There is growing interest in forming a Meathead team. Just 2 weeks to decide…. Oh, and I think I heard the 30 swing count questioned at least 2 or 3 times. There was, in fact, a good bit of 2nd F after the COT. Some of the PAX are world travelers.
Hope the R.E.M. soundtrack was ok with the PAX. YHC chose a birthday Q to be of service and because it’s one of the best ways to start another year – waking early to push physically and mentally with my brothers, and connect with God spiritually. The music was admittedly selfish, but hey, YHC wanted to hear R.E.M. today, so there you go. No apologies. But next time there will be variety.

Apparently my comment yesterday about “bring your running shoes” got people all up-in-arms. Before long I was getting hit over text, email, and Twitter about what exactly that meant. It meant nothing more than we were going to get mobile and get in a few miles. Bounce and Frosty Paws overcame their fear and set their alarms anyway. Gummy was the only one with a legitimate concern considering he runs in and back home (2 miles each way….impressive).
As noted, we started off with a game of Catch Me if You Can. Or in the case of Spackler and Bounce…Don’t Catch Me. Spackler made it all the way to the destination without Bounce catching him a single time. A+ for the effort, Bounce….D- for the result. While in the parking lot some guy walking his dog happened upon us right as Spackler was telling some story to the PAX about an Olympian speedwalker (yes, that is apparently an Olympic sport) who pooped himself during the race and then collapsed on the track. The dogwalker seemed less than amused with our choice of topics. In a side note, the guy finished 7th….not bad considering the circumstances.
We also learned that Pop knows an alarming amount of information about a shop over there called The Mole Hole. He was quick to point out that it was a “boutique” for women and has clothes very similar to Lilly Pulitzer (I had to look up how to spell that). If you have any questions, you can Google it, or just message Puddin’.
Even with the threat of running, we covered just under 3 miles per my watch. This was only the 2nd or 3rd time I’ve posted all month due to work and vacation. That combined with turning 40 on Monday, I was feeling a bit out of shape. Strong group out there today. Thanks to Good Hands and Pop for pulling me off the bench to lead.
Shout out to Frosty Paws for, albeit a bizarre takeout, it was still a takeout.
