Moleskine:

Enthusiastic group today for a special Father’s Day edition of F3 Dads.   Special crowd pleaser of the day were the “Dads” push-ups with Dad’s pushing up 1+ kids on at least 3 exercises.  Clearly some good week-over-week progress with several kids showing their prowess in Sharks vs. Minnows – I think a few minnows even escaped today. Animal races were clearly a winner yet again, and (with ample water breaks) everyone did well in the whistle-driven circuits on the baseball diamond.  Fun ( and sweat) were had by all.

It’s always an honor to be able to lead the fine 2.0s of the F3 PAX, and really appreciate the opportunity to lead F3 Dads for this special weekend.  Thanks to Semi-Gloss for the chance to pinch-hit this week.

Apoligies if I missed a few of the names – recording seemed fuzzy in places.  Let me know if there are any corrections.

Happy Fathers day!

Moving help needed this weekend

Calling on all Area 51 PAX.  Need some help for one of our brothers, Blue Hen (Casey Celli), who will be moving this weekend.  Some of you may not be familiar with Blue Hen or his personal situation, but he has been going through some personal challenges lately with his family and could really use our help.

He will be getting a truck and needs some help loading and unloading.

Friday 6/12: Loading.  Moving from:  3121 Indian Rock Rd, 28270  (in Providence Plantation), evening 5-9pm

Saturday 6/13: Unloading.  Moving to:  10333 Scott Gate Ct, 28277 (in Berkeley), morning, immediately after workouts;

Breakfast and beverages will be provided.

Even if you could come for just an hour or two, that would be appreciated.  So we can get a count, please let Turkey Leg know ASAP (by Wednesday at the latest), whether you can help load, unload, or both.  smastbrook@metlife.com

Thanks,
TL

  • So Fast Twitch is official now!  After two years being flagless, Fast Twitch now has its own shovel flag, courtesey of Alf.  T-Claps!   Not sure if Alf is angling for Haze’s job, but he sure did a great job on the flag and it is much appreciated.
  • Are pigs flying?   The meathead returns to Fast Twitch – and true to meathead ‘gear’ form, he arrived a running watch and headlamp! By next week he may arrive in running tights.  Not to worry High Tide, we’ll turn those arms into pencils in no time.  Great to see you out there again!
  • Welcome FNG Ironsides!  You picked a good one to start out F3.  Maybe we’ll see you up at Muthaship in the near future.
  • Rain Tree appreciates Spackler singlehandedly making sure all the neighborhood trees stay watered.  Maybe go a little easy on the pre-workout hydration?
  • Due to the split-circle exercise, your mileage may have varied today – looks like between 5.3 and 5.7 from the various twitter reports.   Either way, you should have had a decent run.
  • Purple Haze – great take-out brother.

Announcements:

  • Ghost Runner evening run, starting up this Thursday; 4-6 miles meet at Arbroetum ABC Store, 7:30; bring a change of shirt for 2nd F at Vinters afterward

  • Is it a full moon?   You know it’s going to be a busy week when Floor Slapper shows up early
  • Yes, Turkeys can fly (briefly):  Despite being launched into the sky on the “Blob” over the weekend, YHC seemed to land on two feet with just enough energy (and memory) to roll out to take the reins this morning
  • Witnessed the return of The Runaround™ today.  When in doubt for a weinke just create something that involves nonstop movement
  • Overall, quiet group today, what little mumble chatter we did have seemed to dissapate after the first runaround
  • CMD apparently couldn’t get enough today – almost kicked the ball (and take up the offer for the 25 extra burpees).   I’ll up the ante next time.
  • Great effort by all – sweaty bunch of dudes out there today
  • Awesome take-out by Header
  • Alf and Uncle Leo – thanks for the opportunity to take the reins at The Matrix

Announcements:

The Matrix will likely be closed next Monday for Memorial Day; convergence TBD. Watch twitter

  • DK (lifo) – better late than never, glad you could join
  • Hacker – enjoyed partnering today; hopefully my “runner rock” wasn’t too light
  • Kazaam, nice job keeping up with all the running we had in store.  Hope the knee feels better.
  • Welcome Zombie! Glad to have you on-board.
  • Thanks for the great take-out Cottontail

  • Great crowd today for the mile time trial.  Apparently some thought we were only doing a mile, but got plenty of extra credit
  • Strong showing by all the pax; putting up good benchmarks to start off the season (maybe it was the fresh surfacing and lines on the track?). For the record we had:Mr. Brady 5:46
    Bout Time 5:48
    Funky Cold 5:58
    Turkey Leg 6:02
    Header 6:04
    Sanka 6:10
    Purple Haze 6:15
    Hopper 6:16
    Spackler 6:17
    Baracus 6:29

    Good Hands 7:15
    High Tide 7:17   (fng FT)
    Hammer 7:24
    Flutie Flakes 7:27
    Fireman Ed ~8
  • Average pace: ~6:38
  • Turned out to be fairly tame with everyone running the standard mile – nobody taking up the #byob for the alternative mile (see preblast)
  • Enjoyed seeing the big crowds these days – keep it up and we’ll see how far down we can drive that average pace by July #BRRtraining
  • Thanks to Header for the send-off

  • Another tutoring opportunity: see Header

For those who feel running the timed mile around a track is just too passe, you are welcome to set a new Area 51 record on any of the competitive variants, e.g.:

See you at 0515.

COT

Moleskine:

  • Who was that man with an an ear-to-ear grin while we stood out in the pouring rain a few minutes before launch? Was that Lobster Roll? almost didn’t recognize the guy. Mentioned something about a football game last night.
  • O Tannenbaum nearly LIFOed, coming in on two wheels with horns blazing.
  • YHC tried to take it easy on the pax due to the weather, even taking some of the workout under the overhang to keep them out of the rain – though the balls-to-the-wall merkins didn’t feel like a fair concession to some.  #crowdpleaser
  • Modified the merkin challenge near the end with an audible to a burpee challenge — but not before Back Office went for swim in what must have been a foot-deep puddle.  How does that happen?
  • Tried to keep the running to a minimum (under 2mi), but even so, I wasn’t sure if all the running around would be appreciated out in the mud; everyone kept up well – nice job out there today.
  • Its a pleasure kicking of the the week at the Matrix; Alf and Uncle Leo – thanks for letting me lead today.

Announcements:

  • Blue Ridge Relay – still recruiting.  We have at least 6 teams locked now, still looking for members to fill out a 7th team – option for either 9-man or 12-man. Contact Turkey Leg if interested.

50yd AYG sprints in parking lot x4

COT

total mileage: 5.0

Moleskine:

  • Lots of detox going round today at FT.  Q took it upon himself to cropdust the pax on the initial run down to Davie.  Apparently it didn’t matter to Spackler who was probably running in a cloud of his own rancid detox emissions.
  • Solid group out there today for what was an admittedly lighter routine (for FT at least), given that YHC is recovering from some nasty bug that tore through his house last week
  • Probably won’t be so easy with Fraiser on deck for Q next week
  • Enjoyed seeing the regulars out there Soul Glow, Hopper, Alf, Frasier, Prohibition, Mr. Brady, Slim Fast, Spackler and Alf.  Even better to see some not-so-regulars to FT including Bugeater, Buttermaker, Hannibal and Semi-gloss – glad to see you guys out there this week.  Semi-Gloss starting to become semi-regular out at FT!  Has he given up the skunk?
  • Always a pleasure leading the men of FT.

Announcements:

  • Blue Ridge Relay team formation underway. If you are interested in joining the Area 51 BRR group but not yet on a team, send an email to Turkey Leg (smastbrook@metlife.com)

Taste of the Twitch

17 yobs who missed Fast Twitch this week got a taste of our running workout today.

The Thang:

Run to lower parking lot for COP

  • SSHx20
  • Squatx20
  • IWx20

Run to NW entrance, start counter-clockwise ring run around campus.  Stop 2x for 20 merkins each.

Branch off mid-way for gassers; 8x gassers (~50yds each)

Return to ring run around campus.  Stop 3x for 20 merkins each.

Plank-o-rama at NE entrance.

Run back towards Church, stopping off in woods to gather a running rock.

Line up in front of church, partner-up.  Partner 1 runs around clockwise, carrying rock.  Partner 2 runs counterclockwise.  Wherever partners meet stop and do partner exercise.  15x hand-slap merkins.  Repeat above, with 20 derkins instead of hand-slap merkins.

Miscellaneous Mary while waiting for others to finish.

Line up in lot.  Partner 1 runs suicide up to top of hill.  Partner 2 does rock exercises: curls, presses, triceps extensions.  Flapjack.

Return rocks back in woods.

Regroup at NE entrance.  Catch me if you can w/10 merkins: ring run clockwise around campus to NW entrance.   Regroup for mary while others arrive.

Line up for all-you-got back to launch point.

COT

Moleskine:

  • Lots of mumble-chatter in COP today… seemed to die down once we got through a couple gassers.
  • Radar risked egging on the Q, daring him to continue the gassers for the remainder of the workout.  Almost considered it, but decided to have a little mercy.  That has not gone well for others (see @PurpleHazeF3).
  • Apparently Tiger Rag missed the call about a “running rock” by the size of the boulder he had in hand for the run around the church;  also heard some noise about him losing his partner Radar on the catch-me-if-you-can.  May need to take it easy on those running rocks in the future.
  • Thanks for Cottontail for taking us out in COT.
  • Always an honor to lead the fine men of F3.  @BulldogF3 – thanks for the opportunity.

Announcements:

  • Christmas party Dec 9; sign-up still possible on the website
  • Custom Go Ruck signups open now
