This could be the year!

22 Cubs fans, still fired up from Jake Arrieta’s no-hitter vs the Reds last night, posted in the late April gloom with the threat of rain looming.  No SF – Chelms?  Scabby was actually on time, but tagged him as LIFO out of habit.  Actually Jamboree and Philmont shared LIFO honors.  Come to find out Centurion was Philmont’s 2nd choice after The Brave, but they left without him.  That hurts Philmont….not really, and glad to have you join the Centurion pax brother.

Anyway, it started raining about 5:28, and after YHC shared Fire Marshall Bill’s temporary blindness story with the pax as part of the disclaimer, we took off for Cerberus or whatever the parking deck is called.

The Thang:

Run a few levels up and circle up for COP (this is when Jamboree and Philmont caught up).

Squat x 25 IC

H-R Merkin x 25 IC

IW x 25 IC

High Slow Flutter x 13? IC

Run to the far end of the deck, down the stairs and over to the natatorium lot for some unorthodox work.

Partner up.

P1 jogs down the hill and does backwards bearcrawl back up while P2 does jump squats. Flapjack.

P1 jogs down, backwards lunge walk up while P2 does flutters. Flapjack.

P1 jogs down, walkout merkins with a groiner chaser up the hill while P2 does CDD’s. Flapjack.

P1 jogs down, backwards run up while P2 holds squat position.  Flapjack.

Enough of that silliness.

Jog to main school entrance.

P1 does jump ups on bench while P2 bearcrawls up ramp, 13 donkey kicks at top, lunge walk to stairs.  Flapjack.  Rinse & repeat.

Jog to launch lot for 8 1/2 MoM.

Slow Dolly x 13 IC (YHC testing the torn something or other in the hip – success)

LBC x 25 IC

Plank Wave (think that’s what it’s called) for several rounds

SSH x 49 IC

Done.

COT

Ye Olde Moleskine:

Great to be back at Centurion the last couple weeks off IR, and always love Q’ing the pax.

We’ll start at the end.  The 49 SSH’s at the end were in honor of Chicago Cub Jake Arrieta (#49) tossing a no-no last night vs the Reds….a fact which no one except Brushback knew nor did any of the pax appreciate it.  Where were you Haze?!  #LETSGO

So Scabby actually arrived before a handful of other pax.  Proud of you brother, but you’re always LIFO.

Philmont – Glad you found a workout this morning.

Pulp Fiction, during the Plank Wave while already struggling to figure out the pattern, decided he would do his own Ring of Fire or some such.  Good humor….always something at Centurion.

Champagne, as is his custom and intrinsic hard-wiring, instructed YHC on the proper way to do a jump-up.  I’m always learning brother.  #coachable

T-claps to Utah and Cane for running in…..I know you wanted more hairburners Utah.  Sorry to disappoint.

Dear Abby, War Baby of course, had never heard of Fire Marshall Bill nor the show “In Living Color”.  Mercy, I’m old….but thankfully there were lots of R’s in the pax today.  YHC has been WD just once…posted at the wrong workout.  Not sure who was WD today – Checkpoint?  Snowflake?  But those 2 put many of us Non-R’s to shame out there.  Good work men.

Good to see Mildew back at Centurion…maybe he’s been there all along…YHC hasn’t been.

Anyway, hope you men got your money’s worth.  Thanks to Margo and Chelms for the honor of Q’ing.

Announcements:

F3 Dads at the Knights game – Sat, May 14th – signup by April 28th.  YHC is HC.

F3 Dads camp again in August at Camp Thunderbird.  Keep your eye out for signups.  It’s a great time fellas, and remember your kids spell love – TIME.

Chelms and Margo recruiting for Q’s.  Fire Marshall Bill is overdue, and he promises no blindness-inducing downpainments.

Thanks to McGee for his prayer and lifting YHC up.

GO CUBS!

Rock, The Rock, Rocks and some plate work…and a coyote

So site FNG Kickin’ Chicken pulled a SF from his truck, planted it and 8 warriors began their attack on The Rock, Area 51’s finest AO.

After YHC placed the plates for hairburners and inchworms in the lot nearest 51, a big coyote ran across the lot and over near the picnic tables/volleyball court.  So YHC added that to the disclaimer…slowest pax be warned!

The Thang:

With a couple F3Metro guests and FNG’s to The Rock with us, YHC started the downpainment tour with a visit to NorthFace.

5 burpees OYO, run up NorthFace

Run to lot near gym building for COP

COP:

IW x 20 IC

Slow Squat x 20 IC

Slow Flutter x 20 IC

6-count Burpee x 10 IC

Jog to lot nearest 51

Hairburners – 4 sets down & back while partner does H-R merkins

Jog to picnic area where aforementioned coyote was spotted.  One more disclaimer.

15 Jump Ups, 15 incline merkins

20 Jump Ups, 20 incline merkins

Jog to rockpile near the ballfield.  Grab a lifting rock.

10 Overhead Press IC (might have done 13 reps on first set, YHC’s favorite #, but can’t remember)

10 Squat IC

10 Modified Louganis OYO

Jog to pavilion for some People’s Chair

Mosey to bottom of hill at end of the pitch

Partner 7’s:

Partner 1 old-school situp with partner 2 holding feet while in plank x 6. Flapjack.

Run up the hill. H-R Burpee x 1.  Repeato.  You know the drill with 7’s

Jog back to the plates for: Inchworm while partner does Freddie Mercury’s. Flapjack.

Back to launch lot, carrying plates, alternating with partner.  Other partner does lunge walk.

6 MoM

American Hammer (aka Mason Twist) x 13 IC

Makthar Ndjiaye x 13 IC

Protractor work for 3-4 minutes.

COT

Stone Cold took us out in prayer

Ye Olde Moleskine:

Hope the men got their money’s worth this morning.  Tried to mix it up a good bit. Was great to have Rock and Kickin’ Chicken visit from Metro.  YHC thinks they were surprised that The Rock is closer to them than Freedom Park.  Many happy returns fellas.

KC also coming to the rescue with the shovel flag and gloves for his employee Hammer.  Gloves were much needed with plate and rock work.  #goodboss

Solid work by everyone this morning. War Baby E*TRADE is strong – need to get you posting on some weekdays brother.

Boerewors (pronounced Buddha-vorce – South African sausage) was looking strong as well; too bad the rest of his South African posse are apparently in hibernation.

Appreciate Hopper and Gummy tapping me to Q at The Rock.  More burpees and less running than they typically prefer, but YHC exercised former site Q privilege today.  The Rock is YHC’s favorite Saturday workout, and unquestionably the best AO in all of Area51.

The South African Sausage is on Q next week.  Get some!

Announcements:

Tutoring at Billingsville Elementary every Tuesday at 4:30pm.  All pax welcome and encouraged – leave work early Tuesdays and pour into the life of a young lad who needs encouragement and help.

“When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.'”  Matthew 9:36-38

50 = Super Bowl – this Sunday!, Chelms’ Age, Jersey # Made Famous by Mike Singletary, # of Times Champagne Wanted to Police Form during Hydra

No SF planted – apparently Good Hands & Puddin’ Pop don’t care….so VSF planted, and 10 pax took off into the Hydra gloom for a tribute to the Panthers and Super Bowl 50.

Floor Slapper came wheeling into the lot off Rea Road shortly after we launched, and Nugent secured LIFO with room to spare.  He apparently jogged in the 0.45 miles from his home….glad you posted, and we needed an even number of pax for some partner work YHC had planned.

Below is the downpainment the pax made this morning..

The Thang & Ye Olde Moleskine (combined):

Run around the school back to launch lot.  YHC stopped to let Floor Slapper pull in…slacker.

H-R Merkin x 25 IC

IW x 25 IC

Burpee x 25 OYO

Squat x 25 IC

Run around school again

Partner up for the following:

Handslap Merkin x 25

Old school sit-up w/partner holding feet while in plank x 25. Flapjack.

Partner Derkin x 25. Flapjack.

Run around school again – WAIT – Where’s Nugent?  We were going to stop for some core work at the basketball court but no sign of Nugent.  So we continue the rest of the loop around the school only to find Nugent laying in a grass median in the parking lot.  Did he die on us?  Do we need to call a medic?  Does he need Life Alert?

Anyway, the pax circled back up for the following:

Flutter x 25 IC

Cumberland County Viaduct x 25 IC

Makhtar Ndijaye x 25 IC

Run 1/2 way around school & circle back up for the following:

IW x 25 IC (50 total for the morning)

H-R Merkiin x 25 IC (50 total, you get the idea)

Squat x 25 IC

No burpees this time, Chelms & Champagne were anticipating it…..but I couldn’t let them think they were calling the exercises….that’s kind of a pseudo-Q jack, right?!

Run rest of way around school

Partner up again

Hand Slap Merkin x 25 (50 total, got it?)

Old school situp, partner in plank x 25  Flapjack.

Partner Derkin x 25. Flapjack.

Run to the basketball court.  On the way, Chelms tells me Nugent’s done.  He’s heading home.  Not injured nor in need of medical attention, just goose is cooked.

But WAIT – Nugent’s still with us.  T-claps to Grapevine’s sibling understudy.

So we circled up on the court for the following:

Flutter x 25 IC (50 total – clever, right?)

CCV x 25 IC

No more Makthar Ndjiaye’s – running late and want to get the last 25 burpees in, and frankly I hated that jackwagon when he was at Wake, Michigan & UNC.  Frankly, never should have included him in the tribute to the Panthers and Super Bowl 50 anyway.  Cobains.

Run back to the launch lot.

Just enough time for 25 more burpees…for an even 50 total.  Really there wasn’t enough time, especially for YHC as I may be the slowest of all time at doing burpees.  Thought about going 50 minutes instead of 45….clever, sort of.  Think we went about 47 min., 37 seconds.  Cobains again.

Some other things of note from the Super Bowl 50 edition of Hydra:

Where’s Hopper been?  And thought Bugeater was making a Hydra comeback on Christmas Eve….apparently not.

God’s blessings to Flutie Flakes as he is moving to Lower New Hampshire (as he calls it) next week.  Don’t be a stranger brother.  Come back and post as often as you can, especially at HDHH!  Look forward to reading about the launch of #F3Granite later in the spring.  Our Area51 NH native – Countertop can come up and help you plant the shovel flag.

Speaking of shovel flags….Seriously Puddin’ and Good Hands – where’s the shovel flag?  Don’t you love ‘Merica?

T-claps to Flutie Flakes for jogging in and to Iron Horse and Champagne for running in from Colony Place, and to Nugent running in from somewhere?  home?

And special T-claps to the almost-worthy-of-respect Jamboree for running 4+ miles roundtrip into Hydra, and also thanks for taking us out in COT brother.

And now for some good-natured fun at other pax’ expense.  Queen – your participation at Champagne’s F3Area51 Form Camp is required.  YHC about lost it when Champagne exclaimed during the squats – “Queen, what the heck are you doing over there?”  YHC would not call those squats, rather – “Take a Bow’s”  Yikes….it’s supposed to work your legs, not your waist brother.

And another dig at Nugent – pretty sure I saw him in the fetal position in lieu of a plank while holding his partner’s feet down.

Nuke was pushing hard.  Good to see you again brother.   Hadn’t seen you since F3 Dads Camp. Come back soon and often.

Thanks for posting men.

Hope it hurt….during, now and later.

Go Panthers.  #KeepPounding

See you fellas at the victory parade next week!

ANNOUNCEMENT: Chelms and other servants among the pax have a championship flag football game with the kids at AG Middle School this afternoon at 5pm.  Stop by if you can on the way home and cheer on the kids, not Chelms, but the kids!  They’ll be giving one of the kids a football signed by the Panthers!  T-claps Chelms and thank you for your heart and willingness to serve.

What does a USB Cable, 6-count burpees, and Tartarus have in common?

We need the Centurion SF Escargot.  But, alas we settled for the VSF and launched into the gloom with WB Dear Abby flying in late to stake claim to LIFO title…actually he was about the last out…but I digress…except to say further that Scabby was not the first out either…which YHC appreciated.

Anyhow, here’s what the 18 men did….or something like it anyway.

The Thang & Ye Olde Moleskine:

Run around the football stadium and over to Tartarus (is that what we call the parking deck?).

Up the stairs to top level for COP.

COP:

Rockhopper x 20 IC (dusted this one off, demo warranted)

IW x 20 IC (appropriate for all ages, no age-appropriate modification warranted/allowed)

Squat x 20 IC

Flutter x 20 IC

Get in teams of 3 for some grinders.

Partner 1 – H-R merkins, Partner 2 runs length of Tartarus, down the stairs where Partner 3 also does H-R Merkins, upon Partner 2’s arrival, Partner 3 then runs length of Tartarus on ground level, up the stairs to Partner 1….so on, so on, etc, etc

We changed up the exercises with burpees, jump squats and LBCs.

The pax seemed confused with YHC’s instructions.  Q fail?  Probably and Scabby made sure YHC was aware of that sentiment.  I’m just glad he didn’t bail, would have hurt my feelings.  Chelms agreed with Q failure and also exclaimed – “This is going to be a lot of H-R merkins” #mumblechatter  H-R merkins are great for ensuring good form, right Chelms?

So we got through the grinders and jogged over to a lot adjacent to Tartarus.

We partnered up for the following:

Handslap merkins x 13

Prairie Fire Mary x 13R, 13C, 13L – this is a great exercise if done properly.  Hell hath no fury like a prairie fire.  My partner Chelms chose an age-appropriate modification on this one.

Jog over to the main school entrance for 2 rounds of:

Partner 1 does derkins on bench while Partner 2 bear crawls up the ramp and then crab walks to the steps. Flapjack.

Jog to the road leading to the Little Avenue entrance

Lined up for some sprint work, but another Q failure as cars were arriving for school – so after 1 sprint we mosed to the launch lot for 6MoM

Knee-up x 13 IC

American Hammer x 13 IC

CDD x 13 IC

SSH x 20 IC

Protractor with pax calling out random degrees – personal favorites were 98 and 60.

6-count burpee x 13IC

We’re done.

COT with takeout prayer from the oft-mentioned Chelms

So some other observations before we get to the announcements:

  • Dear Abby really is freakish on bear crawls
  • I hate SSH’s but pretty sure I heard Frasier call them, so considering I was ad-libbing at that point anyway – we did 20 of them…yet another Q fail
  • T-claps for pax that ran in – Bout Time & Cane…Scabby?  Again, glad you didn’t run out prior to 6:15.
  • T-claps also to the pre-run crew of Abacus, Chelms, Jamboree, Frasier, Margo…maybe missing one or two?
  • Paper Jam, Utah & Pulp Fiction will be Q’ing their 1st workout very soon at an AO near you
  • Interesting start to the morning before we launched as some young man who looked to be high school age came up & asked if any one dropped a USB cable #oddquestion  Chelms deftly handled the situation saying he’d give the cable to his son to put in the CCHS Lost & Found and also parlayed the exchange into an attempted EH.  The young man eluded the headlock….for now, saying he already worked out.  Yeah right….lots of used to say that.
  • Not YHC’s finest Q, but hope it was worth the forsaketh of the fartsack

Announcements:

  • Joe Davis Memorial Resolution Run – Tomorrow – 5K & 10K options; clowncar caravan leaves from ABC Arboretum – be there at 0630
  • New Saturday workout launching next Saturday, January 16 – Blakeney Shopping Center, meet at the main fountain, playground/lawn area right off Rea Road.  Tuck is your host, which is to say Site Q

Save the neck for me Clark

No SF from Joust, Kevlar or Mountain Goat….nor site Q’s for that matter…yet 12 pax mustered nonetheless, were duly disclaimed by Geraldo, and then embarked on a tryptophan-defying downpainment at Mountain Jevlar.

The Thang:

COP: SSH x 20 IC, Merkins x 10 IC, IW x 20 IC, Diamond Merkins x 10 IC, Squats x 20 IC

Bleacher exercises: step ups, dips, supine pull-ups, incline Merkins.

Parking lot exercises: Merkins, LBCs, squats, lunges.

People’s Chair w/overhead press x 50 civilian count

Over-unders x 11 (P1 planks while P2 jumps over then crawls under P1); Flapjack

Circle up for Domino Merkins (Start in plank, 1st pax goes to 6 inch hold, then 2nd and so on all the way around; 1st pax then goes to plank, then 2nd etc, etc.).  We did 8-10 rounds

9.5 minutes of Mary:

All exercises to 11 in honor of the Panthers 11-0 record. #KeepPounding

Knee up, Makthar Ndijaye, High Slow Flutter, American Hammer, Protractor with all 12 pax calling a hold position

Find some wall for donkey kick x 13, x 13 & x 11

Mosey to launch lot

6-count burpee x 11 IC

COT

Ye Olde Moleskine:

Geraldo had threatened the Gopher, but he audibled due to Turkey Bowl pain & injuries….it still was a painful circuit though.  The tryptophan was in full effect as the pax got confused with Geraldo’s instructions for forming teams for the circuit work.  Pretty sure Cheese Curd and Joker engineered that confusion train.

Was great to have Telemundo (Witch Doctor’s bro) join us from NYC…F3 Central Park coming soon!  With all the pax traveling for work to NYC, that would be a popular AO!

Also awesome to have Grady and his 2.0 Superstar with us from Raleigh.  YHC used to work with him…and helped EH him #creditgrab

Gerber was getting after it for sure as I chased him back to the finish line on the track work.  Great job pushing Gerber.  Ductwork was the other part of YHC’s triumvirate during the circuit work – thankful he was pushing hard thus reducing YHC’s rep count on called exercises!

T-claps to MallCop who posted yesterday at DT and is one of the tri-Q’s at The Rock tomorrow with Iron Horse and Radar.  See everyone there!

Dear Abby, would be WB if not for Grady’s 2.0, was hitting it hard as well.  Not certain and don’t ever want to test this hypothesis #fearoffailure, but he could probably beat YHC in a race while YHC is sprinting and he’s bearcrawling. #inhuman

Thankful to Strange Brew for tapping me to Q; even more thankful for the brothers in F3.  Thanksgiving indeed.

Announcements:

Sign up for Area51 Christmas Party – Saturday, Dec. 12th at Sardis Swim & Racquet Club.  Food drive for Calvary food pantry.  More info to come from Mermaid.

Joe Davis 5K & 10K on Saturday, Jan. 9th – sign up fellas – you should and you need to

Keep your ears open for Toy Drive to benefit Thompson Children’s Home.  Joker Q’ing that effort but we need everyone’s involvement.

Hosting a field trip at The Rock

Partner 1 runs around pine trees down the hill and up NF.  Partner 2 does burpees.  Flapjack.

Jog to pavilion near soccer fields.

People’s Chair w/overhead press x 25 IC.

Hand the Q off to Dory.  Don’t really remember what he Q’d; may want to check the Day Zero backblast.  He handed the Q back to YHC at the top of NF with about 15 minutes to go, and Dory and the DayZ’s headed back to McAlpine Elem.

The Rock pax jogged to the rocks near the ballfield for the following with a rock, rotating the rock one pax to the right for each called exercise.

COT

Ye Olde Moleskine:

Great work by the Rock pax this morning; and was great to have Dory and the DZ pax join us as well.  They covered a lot ground apparently this morning.  YHC eschewed the “no burpee” dictate from Gummy & Hopper….tis a silly rule as it’s one of the very best exercises there is.  We may have covered 3 miles..no idea as YHC did not wear a Garmin or somesuch.

The pax had a decidedly South African feel to it as our FNG and 2 others originally from Johannesburg joined us this morning.  Welcome to Safelite.  Hope you’ll keep coming out.  It gets easier, but hopefully never easy.

Dory was Q’ing his first workout….probably not a great idea to Q your first workout with Radar in the pax #ruthless #relentless

Good to see Jamboree back out and posting regularly.

Thanks to Iron Horse for taking us out in prayer.

A privilege to Q again at The Rock, A51’s finest AO.  Sorry the backblast was late.  Gummy heckled me to write it….site Q on his game!

See you fellas soon in the gloom.

F3 Workout for Dummies

Didn’t notice a SF planted, but regardless – 18 pax launched into the darkest AO in the region for a simple, yet hopefully painful, midweek downpainment.

The Thang:

Jog down to the track, one lap around.  YHC noticed the “Field Closed” sign on the football field, so audibled from football to baseball field.  Jogged down to the baseball field – it is still baseball season after all…especially for the Cubbies!  #shamelessplug #thiscouldbetheyear

COP:

IW x 20 IC

CDD x 13 IC

Slow Squat x 20 IC

some other exercise x 13 IC

Now for the simple Weinke (Semi-Gloss was still confused as he and his fellow site Q Stagecoach seemingly were doing their own workout):

1 Burpee, 2 Makthar Ndjiaye’s, 3 H-R Merkins, 4 LBCs

Run a lap around the inside of the baseball diamond fence (1/5 mile? Not sure, but we covered ~2.5 miles for the entire workout).

After each lap, we added 1 rep to each exercise.  Most of the pax got to 10 Burpees, 11 Makthar Ndjiaye’s, 12 H-R Merkins & 13 LBCs.  Some of the pax who were out front (i.e. Bulldog, Header, Smokey, and I’m probably missing others) did an additional lap and 1 additional rep of each exercise.

We then circled up for some partner work.

Old school situp x 20 w/partner planking on the other’s feet. Flapjack.

Praire Fire Mary x 30 (10L, 10C, 10R). Flapjack.

Hand-slap Merkins x 20.

Jog back to launch lot.

5 burpees OYO

COT

Ye Olde Moleskine:

The pax was getting after it this morning from what I could see, though it’s so stinkin’ dark at DV, some of them could have been loafing or napping.  Come to think of it, I think I did see Skywalker curled up in the right field corner and The Shore was using 2nd base as a pillow for his nap.

Appreciate the opportunity to Q extended by Semi-Gloss, even if 2 days before BRR.  And t-claps to the 2 site Q’s who posted 2 days prior to BRR #obligation #commitment

Special welcome back to Cottonmouth.  We’ve missed you brother.  Good to see some men I hadn’t seen in a while as well like The Shore & CMD as well as some new (to YHC) faces like Daisy, Madison & Witch Doctor.

Sound off with any anecdotes that YHC missed.

43 is the new 42

Solid effort by the pax today…except my partner Scabby whose plank form leaves a bit to be desired.  Thanks for nothing on the over-unders partner.  You know I love ya Scabby.  T-claps for running in to Centurion.

T-claps also to Mermaid & Cane for running in.  Anyone else?  Chelms did some pre-work in the parking deck #BRRready

FYI for all the Cameron Wood pax – our relatively new pax Goonie is your neighbor.

Base(ball) Camp

No SF in sight as Goonie wrested the LIFO title from someone’s grasp, and 25 duly disclaimed pax followed YHC into the Base Camp gloom.

The Thang:

Circled the parking lot to collect Goonie and then jogged down to the track for a partial lap.  YHC planned to do COP on the football field, but thought better of diving into that swamp and head instead to the baseball diamond.  It is still baseball season after all, even for Chicago Cubs fans and it’s almost September!  #LETSGO

Great crew at Base(ball) Camp today.  Good to see some old familiar faces (i.e. Smash & ABBA) and lots of new faces including a few who were posting for just the 2nd or 3rd time (i.e. Destiny & Balk).  Grateful to Simba and Fireman Ed for tapping me to Q.  Hope I didn’t disappoint the pax.  YHC enjoyed the 1.5 mile pre-run with Simba and Horsehead. #2ndF  It was a good cool down after the 86 degree temps at the Hops home last night with a deceased A/C unit. #mercy

Methinketh the Imperial Squawker and the bounding could use a little work on form, but otherwise the pax was getting after it in the gloom.  T-claps fellas.  It should never get easy, perhaps a bit easier but that’s when you need to push yourself even harder.  If it ever gets easy – it’s not worth doing.

Sound off with any observations as it’s hard to notice much at the darkest AO in all of Area 51.

See you in the gloom again soon men.
