Running Around Latin

First time visiting the fine AO of Hawk’s Nest. Been many times for CCDS vs. Latin sporting events years ago before becoming an empty nester. Brought back fine memories.

Small crowd of 8 this am. Was it the cold? Maybe the heads up from Hops that lots of running may be involved? (We did get in 3 miles). Possibly the simple fact that Checkpoint does not have that many friends…..

Whatever it was we just got after it. Had a little COP. Taught everyone the True American (6 count with a hand release merkin and a plankjack). Love that exercise. Keeps everyone honest (required in Metro). Ya need to go all the way down to release the hands and ya need to lock out the elbows to do the plank jack. Does wonders for your Merkin strength.

Off to the pavilion by the big practice field up the hill. Dips, Derkins, and Jump ups. To the baseball field for a few laps with Merkins at right, center, left and home plate. To the parking lot by the lacrosse field for some True Americans. Went to the turf field to visit the zoo (bear crawl, bunny hop, crab walk, duck walk, monkey humpers, and the much loved centipede). 150 yards of running between each. Then to the track around the football field for 3 hot laps with stops every 220 for True Americans.

It was a great morning. Didn’t stay cold long. Hops was there to support the Q and even bring some donations for Peru. Sprockets and Witch Doctor were up front. Puddin Pop showed up early and was excited to know we were gonna get some running in. It was surprisingly quiet this am. Little mumblechatter. Except for the Centipede there was no complaining. I love A51. No bitchin. Just work.

Thanks Hops for the takeout.

The Pellyn Wood Money Hill

Honored to be invited to Q DMZ even though YHC has not been posting regularly. Having been sucked into the vortex of the Muthaship and now Prestige Worldwide, travels to Carmel Park are not frequent even though it is much closer to home than the big city AO’s. Did not want to disappoint so had to do a little recon by internet. There are no parking decks near Carmel Park – what to do? What is a Monday without a deck? Maybe the hills of McHorsey? Heard that AO has gotten a little sketch though. Thanks to Google terrain view it was determined that there is a sweet set of hills with a view of the lake and some really big houses that people like Hillary live in. The bonus is that it is over a mile away so YHC could make it feel like a trip to the Mutha from PWW (which was supposedly exactly what I was missing at PWW today). As Pax gathered someone mumbled that they hoped Aquafresh was not Qing as they were going to go home if he made them do a bunch of Merkins – oops, one of my favorites – just kept my mouth shut. Then as the clock struck 5:30 we were off – well actually we stayed in the lot and did a little COP to wait on a few stragglers. Was expecting one to be Swiper as he promised he would be out this am but he never showed – sad.

The thang:

COP with SSH, Mountain Climbers and my favorite – the True American – hand release merkins with a plank jack.

Fast Mosey to Pellyn Woods, stopping at every cross street and corner to enjoy a variety of merkins and squats

The main event – find the big double hill that crosses the bridge over the lake on Gorham Drive. Do 7’s+7 with burpees at one end and True Americans at the other and 7 Sumo Jump Squats on the bridge every time you crossed it.

Fast Mosey home with a variety of merkins and squats

In the lot, Jack Webbs to 10/40 or so.

The Naked Moleskin:

Great group this am. Some complaining along the way on the lack of creativity at the cross streets. Mumble chatter ended on the Pellyn hill. Those things are steep and long. One Eye and Lewinski were out front pushing it.

Chelms or CheckPoint in the Centurion Mile?

22 met on a pleasant morning at CCHS to either see if an old man could Q a decent workout, or more likely to see the long awaited showdown between Chelms and Checkpoint (YHC). It all started a while back when YHC was noticeably missing from this fine AO which is much closer to my home than the Metro workouts I had been frequenting in prep for a marathon. Chelms started a little twitter war taking away my Centurion membership card (wait, I thought you didn’t have to join F3 – core principle?). Fortunately Margo said YHC could earn it back in a little footrace over the Centurion mile.

The Thang:

Being a gentleman, after some SSH, mountain climbers, and true americans, YHC spotted Chelms 15 seconds and the race was on. It was an amazing finish. At some point since regularly posting, the pax have decided that the climb to the top of the parking deck is part of the mile instead of the extra credit. Imagine the surprise when the fleet footed Ice9 and Scabby navigated the traditional mile loop and arrived at the finish only to find the rest of the pax comfortably breathing during some mary led by Hops. I guess YHC still does not have his membership card back.

YHC sucked it up and thinking of Ice9’s good friend, Stinger, channeled a little angry bee.

4 corners of the parking deck – climb the stairs, 5 burpees, across the deck, 10 true americans, down the stairs, 15 sumo jump squats, across the parking lot, 20 LBC’s (originally called for LBJ’s cause I was missing my Metro friend, Little Baby Jesus). Do that 3 times – not enjoyable for many. It paid to be a winner – in a perverse way – as winners got to do an extra trip to the top and merkins while waiting on the six.

Fast mosey across 51 to the big lot. Merkins while waiting on the six. 5x merkins at every crosswalk and 5x sumo jump squats on return. Someone counted and said there were 16 – they look out for pedestrians over there.

Jack Lalanes (merkins and air presses to 10×40) until the six arrived. Very fast mosey to make it back at exactly 6:15.

Moleskin:

Scabby, Ice9, and Brillo were out front. Mermaid and Snooka who smoked the 3×4, were close behind. Not a lot of mumble chatter so not a lot of scoop to share. Even Chelms did not boast about his big win.

Glad to have a great group. Appreciate the lead Margo.

The Zoo and Jack Webb

21 posted for YHC’s Q at Centurion. Nothing like a tweet letting everyone know I was feeling a little lazy and it might be an easy day to bring out the crowd.  Sadly for all including YHC, it was not to be as I woke up refreshed and ready to go. Blame it on Chelms who poked the bear last night as always.

The Thang:

  • COP for 30x SSH, 30x selection standard merkins, 30x mountain climbers, 10x 8 count body builders
  • Run to the “Zoo” to meet the animals
    • Bear crawl up the hill, 5x 8 count body builders, run back, LBC’s till the six
    • Duck walk up the hill, 10x burpees, run back, LBC’s till the six
    • Crab walk up the hill, 20x merkins, run back, LBC’s till the six
    • Frog jump up the hill, 30x sumo jump squats, run back, LBC’s till the six
    • Human backwards run, recover
  • Run to the Panera parking lot for a ladder circuit on the stairs
  • Start with exercise, followed by a stair loop.
    • 5x 8-count body builders,
    • 10x Burpees
    • 20x Merkins
    • 30x Sumo jump squat
    • 20x Merkins
    • 10x Burpees
    • 5x 8-count body builders
    • LBC’s and Flutter till the six finished
  • 2x 100 yd AYG
  • To the school for bench circuit
    • 15x Jump-ups
    • 20x Dips
    • 15x Derkins
    • repeat
  • Then the crowd pleaser – Jack Webbs (1 merkin followed by 4 air presses, increasing each as you go) Due to the bear poking by Chelms we had to go to 13 merkins so we could get to YHC’s age in air presses – I think that is 91 Merkins and 365 air presses
  • COT

That was painful. Not much mumblechatter this morning.

Shout out to Mermaid, Pebbles, and Chelms who were out front on the circuit.

Saranac posted for the second time and was so excited he texted YHC at 5am – “where is everyone”?

Sumo jump squats after an uphill duck walk hurt just as bad as the last time YHC called this. I forgot that I promised myself to make it 25 next time…

Hops was GoRuck ready in his camo BDUs this am.

Jack Webb is a very sneaky guy. He seems so benign in the beginning. Lots of modifications by the pax as we counted up to 13×53 on that one. We will likely think of Jack when washing our hair in the shower tomorrow.

Picking on the old guy…

15 posted for YHC’s Q at Centurion. It is always a little intimidating when the War Daddy has to Q as you hate to disappoint. The pressure was high and I tried to lower the bar last night by suggesting it would be an easy day. The Pax immediately started poking the bear. The age insults began and I had a fitful night of sleep. Several pax ran to the site likely worried that they would not get a satisfying workout in today. I tried my best to deliver a quality plan.

The Thang:

  • Brief warm up jog
  • COP for 25x SSH, 30x selection standard merkins, 25x mountain climbers, 10x 8 count body builders (unlike my experience earlier this week at a liberal arts university not known for quality football like my alma maters, Clemson and Duke, we did NOT do windmills and arm circles)
  • Run to the Charlotte Aquatics center hill, furthermore to be known as “the Zoo”
    • Bear crawl up the hill, 5x 8 count body builders, run back
    • Duck walk up the hill, 10x burpees, run back
    • Crab walk up the hill, 20x merkins, run back
    • Frog jump up the hill, 30x sumo jump squats, run back
    • Human backwards run, recover
  • Run to the Panera parking lot for a ladder circuit on the stairs
  • Start with exercise, followed by a stair loop.
    • 5x 8-count body builders,
    • 10x Burpees
    • 20x Merkins
    • 30x Sumo jump squat
    • 20x Merkins
    • 10x Burpees
    • 5x 8-count body builders
  • Run to the hill behind fresh market with an AYG sprint on the way
  • Up the hill and 5 burpees
  • Then the crowd pleaser – Jack Webbs (1 merkin followed by 4 air presses, increasing each as you go) Due to the bear poking by Chelms we had to go to 13 merkins so we could get to 53 air presses – that is a lot of reps in there!
  • Mosey back for COT

This was a fun circuit today. The lack of mumblechatter once we got rolling suggested that it at least got the crowd breathing hard.

Sumo jump squats after an uphill duck walk is a bad idea.

Frazier is fast no matter what you throw at him.

As much as I wanted to shake Chelms since he poked YHC last night, he just won’t let go.

Enjoyed having the Q. Hope it met the standard.
