Taste the Rainbow

Date: 2025-02-15 AO: olympus Q: Krzyzewski PAX: MARTA, The Worm, high_tide, taggart, Emoji FNGs: None COUNT: 6 Sure as the sun will rise and set, some gear head somewhere likely said, “it’s a beautiful day for a beatdown.” And this man was correct. The kettlebell gods showed favor to the pax this morning and held off the impending storm, kept the weather cool, and the sun out of our eyes. The rainbow spreadsheet, much like the similarly named course in Mario Kart, generally elicits unfavorable reactions – mostly because Joe Daniels like to get real weird with it. However, most of us agreed that this current iteration is actually pretty good. Decent variety of straightforward exercises and, like High Tide remarked, if you don’t like something, we’ll move on to something new fairly quickly. Overall, good day moving weight with HIM (or is it HIMen?) and enjoyable mumblechatter throughout the sets. Let’s get into the recap… WARMUP: Swings (10x), prying squats, swings (10x), synovial circles, swings (10x), slingshots (7x e/w) THE THANG: 1) HEAVY SET (4 sets) – Heavy swings (w/ parked bell in between) (8x) – Heavy deadlift (10x w/ single bell) 2) Planked KB Drags (4 sets) – KB drags (4x e/s) 3) HEAVY Shrugs (3 sets) – Weak side (4x) – Strong side (3x) 4) Upright Rows (3 sets) – Upright rows w/ single bell (15x) 5) Outer Limits (12 min.) – Clean and strict press (2x one side every 30 sec.) 6) Pelosi Pyramid (50x swings) 7) Calf Raises (2 sets) – Calf raises w/ single bell in deadlift form (25x) 8) CARRIES! – Nice mix of suitcase w/ shrugs, racked, and waiter MARY: Ran out of time, but those KB pullovers will make an appearance in the near future… ANNOUNCEMENTS: – Nothing major, but a few callouts to the pax today: – High Tide – awesome to see you out and continue to be inspired to push myself when you’re swinging that snowball beast – MARTA – putting in the cardio work pre-post; how you guys do double-duty is beyond YHC – love it! – Taggart – speaking of double-duty, Taggart posted at Stonehenge before Olympus – keep after it, brother! – The Worm – it’s an inspiration to see you out week after week in light of all the treatments! Definitely know it’s going to keep getting harder and we’re here to support however needed – Emoji – always a pleasure to be in your presence. Appreciate your willingness to indulge in the oddball exercises and smile through the pain; also your boyband pics are unmatched! – Finally, t-claps to the all the Area 51 pax for posting consistently, getting the word out, and writing those backblasts. Orange Whip’s recent post on 2025 attendance was a huge encouragement that we’re being the light in the community that we should be. Let’s keep it up! COT: Madison took out the joint crews

Valentines Day UFO

Date: 2025-02-14 AO: ufo-ultimatefriz Q: MARTA PAX: Spikeball, Yeti, Smokey, stonecold, Victoria, Mayo, Broken Arrow, Steve Hall, Chubbs, Fruity Pebbles, David Baker, Crawdad, Pipes, Pfeffer, MARTA, Cool Runnings FNGs: None COUNT: 16 Was it President’s Day travel (a truly well celebrated holiday) or the PAX needed rest from the epic Valentines Day preparations? Either way, the promise of STACKS breakfast enticed Broken Arrow and stonecold to venture out to Charlotte Christian and forsake their rigorous adventures in the wilderness or workouts in the comfy confines of Crunch Fitness. It was a blistery cold lower 30’s morning on the pitch (?) and the new turf was found to be an unforgiving spikey friend to the UFO’ers and YHC was unprepared for the cold. The teams were divided, and for once – by the grace of God and Victoria’s attempt to usurp the missing commish, the match started somewhat on time with even teams. Expectations were that Pink Eye would show up at 530 to ruin the even match.
THE THANG: Once the match started, the cold stiffened hands and the frigid disc made a rough start with pathetic turnovers galore. Yellow Pink took an all too easy 2-0 lead, and the game progressed in a sloppy pattern of lead changes. Yellow would go up 2 for Pink to return serve and tie the match up. Some solid battles ensued… @FlywithMe covered Yeti with endless energy. Pink had no answer for Pipes who seemed to touch the disc ever other pass except for when he mysteriously left the field for a few points only to come back even more amped up (performance enhancing drugs?). Someone claimed Yeti was having a bad day… Perhaps the chippiest battle was between Fruity Pebbles (dirtiest player on the field) and MARTA. YHC lumbered deep to receive exquisite huck from Spikeball with fruity on his heels.. with fruity lockstep and faster, YHC cutoff fruity’s path with a dad bod developed meticulously from over consumption of chips and queso and the fine culinary fare from the Lodge. With fruity on the ground, a score was had at a price.
In the end, Chubbs deep throws and yellow’s willingness to out run Pink was the deciding factor. Fruity Pebbles had his revenge with several defenses and tireless running around the field. Pink cut a 4 score deficit at one point to two (maybe), but the game was never really in doubt. stonecold.. can’t stop that guy…
Highlight of the day (other than great fellowship at STACKS), was finding out the pipes read my last backblast. He quickly informed me that he is not 30, and a correction should be made. As such, I humbly ask for forgiveness for add 5 years to his age… must be neatly trimmed beard.
Pink(1s): 12? Yeti Vicky Marta Cool Runnings Broken Arrow Fresh Meat Spikeball Pfeffer
Yellow (2s): 14 or 15? Mayo Pipes Chubbs Stonecold Smokey Crawdad Fly With Me Fruity Pebbles
Having a former commissioner on your team, seems like a guaranteed loss (Spyglass) these days.

Rinse. And Repeat?

Date: 2025-02-13 AO: the-devils-turn Q: flipper PAX: voodoo, Astro (Kyle Kirchhoff), grasshopper, Hippie, flipper FNGs: None COUNT: 5 WARMUP: sitting in cars as long as possible to avoid standing in the cold and rain. THE THANG: There were only 3 PAX at 0515, so together we set out on a rerun of last week’s jaunt to Swan’s Run. Was planning for variety, but given limited numbers, general lack of care about route, and the need for flat, non-greenway roads, repeat was the obvious call. By mile 1 we all were waterlogged and had shoes at least 1/2 lbs. heavier than when we stepped from our vehicles. The extra water weight and general conditions likely slowed our efforts, but we ran 7 miles and met the duo of Astro/Grasshopper at TJs around 0617 following their equally soggy track work. MARY: nooope ANNOUNCEMENTS: too cold for that COT: Astro took us out
Today was just as disgusting as advertised and YHC was equal parts chilled and suffocated for the entire run. It would have been easy to stay home in bed, the rain gear left forgotten at the bottom of the gear stash. No shade towards those PAX who smart sacked today, but YHC is incredibly impressed with those who didn’t. As in life, it’s not what we do on the nice days which makes the biggest impact, it’s how we react in the face of adversity which will ultimately define our mettle. Today was a sharpening day and YHC, for one, was glad for the work done, even if I was totally miserable while doing it.
Do hard things boyos

Perseverance in the face of gloom

Date: 2025-02-13 AO: the-phoenix Q: Starch PAX: Roulette, wildturkey FNGs: None COUNT: 3 It was a particularly gloomy morning, but 3 pax showed up for circuit work and less than half a mile of running. After 216 sandbag burpees yesterday, they persevered and continued to put in the work because why else would you wake up at 0500
It was good to be out there this morning. It’s important to show up whether or not it’s convenient both here and in the lives of those we care about. Don’t shy away – we gotta use the gifts we’ve received and show up.
WARMUP: Ran to the pavilion Standards: SSH, Imperial Walkers, Runner’s Stretch
THE THANG: 3 rounds of each circuit – 1 minute per exercise with 15 seconds between:
Jump rope Carolina Dry Docks Step ups
