The scent of danger takes me to the edge of panic

The Floater is probably my favorite site. Why?  Maybe it’s the danger in the air. You never know if you’ll be hit by a garbage truck rolling through, an early morning commuter, a train. You could break an ankle on a curb, pothole, unkept road, you name it. It’s danger and excitement all rolled into one.

13 PAX with a love of danger decided the soupy 71 degree dew point and made for perfect conditions.

DiCCS were given (Disclaimer, Cell phone, CPR, Safety)

Wow, it was hot. Good to see some newer faces out there like Sugar Daddy and Surge. Both respects and both out there killing it. Welcome and keep coming out.

Reclac’s tube top seems to be getting longer, looks like the Waxhaw Express workouts are paying off.

Bad Idea Hill has recently been paved and sealed and is puuuurty nice. When the start times roll back soon it shouldn’t have as much morning traffic and be even nicer.

Great job everyone. Heavy on the miles today and everyone really pushed and did a good job staying together as a group.

Thank you for the opportunity to lead this morning.

Moleskin:
As always a strong group out at Thrive this morning ranging in age from 12 to 59.
14 PAX found their way over to Carolina Courts for a little midsummer morning fun as we attempt to drop some of what Hairband has called the QUARANTINE 15.  I am pretty sure the amount of sweat in today’s workout, everyone went home a few pounds lighter.  Except maybe Quidditch;  this 2.0 is 12.. was out there in sweatpants and long sleeve shirt, leading most of the exercises and I swear he never broke a sweat.  I am not sure what Unplugged is feeding this pax, but he never stopped and was looking back at the rest of us wondering why we were taking so long???
This AO on paper says its only 45 mins long and starts at 6am.  However, as Christmas and I were within a half mile of running to the AO we came across 3 other pax (Double E, Harambe, and Glass Joe) that were out for a 5K prerun.  Upon arriving at site there was Unplugged and Quidditch working on some yoga.  I also heard there is some regular pre-bootcamp rucking that occurs as well..  In other words, if you are looking for something a little more challenging than JUST another 45 min bootcamp, come check Thrive out.. its a great AO space and offers up some new alternatives to push your limits a little further.

I look forward to posting with you guys again when I am back in town.

Thank you for allowing me to lead and until next time:

MOLESKIN:

This was a rehashed CoronaWorkout from the first week when we all thought that Zoom was fun.  Now, Zoom isn’t fun anymore.  In fact, I’d rather eat a jar of premixed Peanut Butter and Jelly than attend another videoconference.  Or perhaps down an entire bag of Dum Dums that are only root beer and cream soda flavored.

On that note, I heard there was a big virtual conference last week with all of the Charlotte TrueFarghovialient employees where everyone realized that everyone else was a Vice President and some tempers (virtually) flared.  I’m not sure how accurate any of this is. Remember when times were easier and you had to read shampoo bottles on the toilet instead of your smartphone?  How I long for those days.

Anyway, this workout abused me like Joey Chestnut’s bathroom on the 5th of July.  It will melt your face.  Stone Cold has completed it 100 times and just look at him.  He was all twitterpated last night when I told him what was coming – I don’t think he slept a wink but somehow he showed up without a hair out of place.

Lois is a fount of 80s trivia knowledge.  He knows things about obscure songs, TV shows, and movies that he shouldn’t; or maybe we should?  Start talking bout some Mama’s Family, Steve Gutenburg & Michael Winslow, or the “Take On Me” video and he’s right in there with some KNOW-LEDGE.  He is also persuasive, once convincing his nephew that the Bishopville, SC Lizard Man was real.  This is all true.

I’m not really sure what else happened out there.  I blacked out momentarily during the SDCOT, which was fun.  Boondock started calling me Grandpa and I think he just finished the walk home.

Stay safe out there and keep posting.  Check in on those guys who have disappeared.

PS – 6AM workouts are lame.  Stop it.

Make it stop!!

Easy Button hit me up a couple of weeks ago and asked if I wanted to Q swap; he’d do Diesel and I’d do Watchtower. Easy peasy. Note to you guys who just finished Site Q School: that’s an effective way to fill your monthly Q schedule. So with a few weeks of time to plan I started thinking how I could change it up from the regular boot camp. Note to Site Qs in general: don’t give Chastain too much time to think about his weinke…uh, moving on.

Warmup

Quick mosey around the outside perimeter of the parking lot then circle up

SSH x15 IC
Imperial Walkers x15 IC
Merkins x15 on my down
Calf Stretch (you’re welcome)
Potato Pickers x10 IC

The Thang

The game is called “Make it stop!” and the rules are simple:

  1. The pax circle up and do the called exercise in cadence without stopping until someone has had enough and they yell “Make it stop!”
  2. The pax who says “Make it stop!” must call cadence for the next exercise
  3. Every 5 exercises take a hot lap the long way around the parking lot
  4. Each pax can only say “Make it stop!” once – Yeah, we broke that rule
  5. New rule needed: Once you’re no longer doing the exercise then you have to call out “Make it stop!” – Had a few pax that were too stubborn to verbally call it quits

Here’s the list of exercises and the number of reps we did. We were pretty stubborn at the beginning but were a little more liberal with the “Make it stop!” as we went along:

  1. SSH – 106 IC
  2. Lunges – 21 IC
  3. Big Bois – 61 CC
  4. Merkins – 22 CC
  5. Heels to Heaven – 56 IC

Run!

  1. Plank Jacks – 31 IC
  2. Mike Tysons – 21 IC
  3. Broad Jumps – 19 CC
  4. Squats – 33 IC
  5. Air Presses – 60 CC

Run!

  1. Pogos – 113 CC
  2. Dry Docks – 28 CC
  3. Bear Crawl – 20 IC
  4. Burpees – 10 IC
  5. LBCs – 80 – CC

Run!

  1. Jump Squats – 22 CC
  2. Imperial Walkers – 28 IC
  3. Monkey Humpers – 12 IC
  4. Plank – 56 seconds
  5. Speed Skaters – 20 IC

Run!

  1. Captain Therkin – 60 seconds OYO

This is as far as we made it in 45 minutes

  2. Flutters
  3. Bobby Hurleys
  4. American Knockouts
  5. Bomb Jacks

Run!

  1. Freddie Mercurys
  2. War Hammers (Big Boi with 4 American Hammers at the top)
  3. Mountain Climbers
  4. Al Gore
  5. Overhead Clap

Moleskin

Honestly, I had no idea how this one was going to turn out. I had a backup weinke ready to go in case it was stupid and after we broke 100 SSHs on the very first exercise I was starting to worry. We had some stubborn pax that didn’t want to be the ones to call it quits, but once a few guys had cycled through the exercises it got a little easier to give in. We got less mileage than I thought/had hoped. Originally we were going to be on the track, but Zin AKA the new Shake n Bake said “NO!” to running in close quarters. Admittedly, it worked out better in the front lot. Next time, if there’s a next time, we’ll run the hot lap every 2 or 3 exercises instead of every 5. That’ll fix it!

Shout out to O-69 and Schneider today. Most of us bore witness to O-69 up his pace from his non-stop hi-speed walk to an all out run! Way to go, buddy! You’re killing it! And Schneider beat the fartsack today and made it out with a bum ankle thinking he’d mash, only to find there weren’t any other mashers at Watchtower. That didn’t stop him, though, he brought out the coupon and got his sweat on regardless. Good job, brother!

Cool Runnings

9 veteran PAX made the solid decision to begin this week on a high note and post at Base Camp, held weekly at South Charlotte Middle School, 0530 sharp.  None of that 0600 “summer schedule” nonsense.  Real PAX post at 0530.  YHC rolled into the SCMS parking lot in plenty of time for witty pre-Q banter, including asking Sardine why he was stretching his calves 75 feet away from anyone else.  Social distance to the max, my friend?  He actually said the words, “I think it feels cooler this morning.”  Not sure which planet you are currently living on, sir, but the gloom has been a buck nasty humidity slog for weeks on end, and this morning was no exception.  Disgusting.  The worst disclaimer EVER was given, and off we ventured into the South Charlotte swamp…

Mosey to the preschool parking lot next door.

COP

Mountain Climbers, LSS, Peter Parkers, IWs, Parker Peters – all x10 IC.  Finished w/ a quick stretch which exposed a severe lack of balance amongst several PAX.

Mosey down Strawberry, Left on Woodfox.  Jump Squats (or Merkins) x10 at the lone speed hump.  Continue to end of Woodfox where we stopped for Merkins (or Jump Squats) x10.  Left on Woodfox.  Congregate at bottom of Rising Meadow.

Triple Nickel (you know, you love it) – Heels to Heaven at top, Plank Jacks at bottom.  Mary to wait on the 6.

Mosey back to Woodfox.  Staggered arm Merkins, 10 ea. hand OYO.

Mosey to SCMS rock pile.  Grab a respectable lifting rock.

OH Press, Curls, Triceps – x10 IC.  Hot lap around the baseball field.  Mary.

Upright rows, Front shoulder raises, Sumo Squats – x10 IC.  Ditto.

Replace rocks.

Mosey to launch.  0615 on the dot as told by the non-smart Timex Indiglo sans glo.

Moleskinny

Solid effort by the group today notwithstanding 3,000% humidity, COVID, Social Unrest, mentally deranged school board, and a general sense of WTF about life in America these days.  Thunder Road almost overslept and Sardine consumed many cervezas Sunday night, but on balance the PAX was ready to go.  Circuit City and Mr. Magoo joined YHC up front today, so obviously the Q Juice was flowing because YHC is NEVER up front.  This fact threw Clover for a loop as he uttered, “it’s not a race” during Triple Nickel.  True dat, but YHC is racing an expanding waistline and aching joints, so YHC will ride the pain free Q wave as often as possible and enjoy it.  Limey seems concerned that he may not ever see his St. Louis customer again due to COVID travel restrictions.  In the words of the American Airlines CEO, “For God’s sake, fly.”  Flo Jo and Floor Slapper punched the clock today and got it done.  Did not hear much mumble chatter so feel free to chime in and enlighten the group.

Many thanks to Thunder Road and Mr. Magoo for handing YHC the reigns today.  It is and always will be an honor to lead such fine men.

Got the call from Posse to head up Homecoming on the day of the SOB 5K Charity/Virtual run.  We agreed that 5K was the distance; but that it needed a little twist.  Initial twist was to run BACKWARDS the entire 5K.  I approached the lot and it was just Gerber and Wolverine:::just fabulous – running a  5K with the fastest dudes in Waxhaw wasnt going to be fun–I thought I could slow them down–BACKWARDS.  Not to be it was rejected by all (and probably a good decision).  Late arrivals Zin and Southern Tip just rolled in before the gun went off.

1 ish mile loop around Weddington Middle/Elem.  Plan was to stop 4 at each 1/4 mile and perform a 3 exercise bundle.

Bundles included Burpees, diamonds, BH’s, speed skaters, squat jumps, tysons..

added an app Captain Therkin to the mix as well

Glad to see Gerber back – and he’s really slowed down (not)

Wolverine nursing an injury is an oxymoron –

Zin -getting back into post beer road trip shape and eager to improve his Big Boy form!!

Southern Tip – quietly just keeping pace and works his ass off.

So all in all it was a bootcamp 3+ miler.
