Fat Camp Virgin

14 (not really) portly pax gathered at Elon Park Elementary at 5:15. Co-site Q Pebbles got an extra 15 minutes of sleep and joined us at 5:30. #beautyrest

A full disclaimer was given to the pax, then we headed out.

Warm up mosey around the school and down to the sidewalk between the field and the trailers. Line up for COP:

  • Low slow squat x 15 IC
  • Run up the hill
  • 10 burpees OYO
  • Down the hill
  • IW x 15 IC
  • Up the hill
  • Merkins x 15 IC
  • Mosey back to the playground for 2 rounds of 5 negative pullups (up on 1, down on 3) followed by 10 incline merkins

Mosey back to the bells for the Thang:

100 swing set pyramid:

  • 10 swings, 1 press per side
  • 15 swings, 2 presses per side
  • 25 swings, 3 presses per side
  • 25 swings, 3 presses per side
  • 15 swings, 2 presses per side
  • 10 swings, 1 press per side

Grab the bells and mosey down to the plush artificial turf field.

Line up along the sideline and begin the swing/dip set:

  • 20 2H swings, run the field and do 10 dips on the benches
  • 40 2H swings, run the field and do 20 dips on the benches
  • 60 2H swings, run the field and do 30 dips on the benches

Partner up by bell size and speed, with bell size more important. This is where poor Uncle Phil got stuck with YHC, farmer carrying ~97 lbs of kettlebells. This appears to be ~65% of his bodyweight.

P1 farmer carries the bells across the field while P2 performs the exercise and then runs the field. Flapjack and come back.

  • Round 1: 10 burpees
  • Round 2: 20 jump squats
  • Round 3: 30 LBCs

Drop the bells and lunge walk across the field, bear crawl (or bear gallop in MT’s case) back.

Bunny hop half the width of the field, then crab walk the rest. Backward run back.

Suicides to the near line of the big goalie box (I think Argonaut called it the “18 yard line”), then the far line, then the far sideline.

Plank work:

  • Makhtar N’Diaye x 10 IC
  • Regular
  • Left arm high, left leg high
  • Regular
  • Right arm high, right leg high
  • Regular
  • 6 inches (with 10 count from MT)
  • Line up along the sideline in plank and plank walk ~20 yards to the left, plank walk right to starting point.

Gather the bells and return to the starting point. Circle up for Mary, initially led by pax that had not Q’d workouts before.

  • Gomer Pyle: LBC x 15 IC
  • Band Aid: Flutters x 15 IC
  • Uncle Phil: Merkins x 15 civilian count
  • Flint: Dolly x 15 IC (with varied cadence, obviously ready to Q)
  • MT: Heels to Heaven x 15 IC
  • Haggis: elbow plank for 1 minute, with form “suggestions” where needed

Time. Thanks to Argonaut for the takeout in COT.

Moleskine:

  • We had a great crew out at Fat Camp this morning. There was even talk of a new AO record, but I’m sure it will be topped next week as word of mouth continues to grow. Thanks for the support from the pax and the patience when some of the instructions were hard to hear while spread out on the field.
  • Thanks to Pebbles and Mario for inviting YHC to lead. It’s always an honor to lead a strong group of SOBs.
  • This was YHC’s first trip to Fat Camp (hence the BB title above). I’m obviously familiar with the AO as co-site Q at Foxhole (Mondays, 5:30am, #shamelessplug), but enjoyed getting the opportunity to utilize more of the AO this morning with the additional time and a little less KBs.
  • Cobains for the delay in getting the backblast posted. Work and family intervened.
  • Some notable performances:
    • Flint finding a chair on the field and utilizing it briefly between rounds of exercises. Well played, sir.
    • Smelter pushing hard for an hour in what YHC believes was his second workout. As you’ve probably heard, it doesn’t get easier, but you get stronger.
    • Haggis modifying as needed due to having run 50!!!! miles on Saturday. Maybe someone should explain to him that they have cars for moving those kinds of distances…
    • All the (relatively) new guys leading portions of Mary. I remember posting to a workout early in my F3 career when that was done and it was a good way to get the pax over the hump and give them a small taste of leading the group.
    • I’m sure there were others that I missed, so please chime in below.

Announcements:

  • Whetstone mentoring program June 14th. Details can be found here. Please reach out to Mario for more details.
  • Sign up to Q here at Fat Camp or Mario will keep leading every week and no one wants that.
  • MT and Smelter have been volunteering at the Urban Ministry for the past 2.5 years (slowest MT EH ever) and some of the blind patrons have asked for materials to make their lives easier. If any of the pax have access to these types of materials, please let MT know. He can also provide examples of the types of items they are looking for.
  • There is a fundraising concert this weekend at the Fillmore for the Urban Ministry. Details can be found here.
  • Q school is coming up on 6/4 at the Panera at the Arboretum with a workout beforehand. Details can be found here. Gomer Pyle, Band Aid, Flint and Uncle Phil all seem ready to lead a workout. Q school is definitely not required, but is a good chance to hear from more experienced Qs. Rumor has it that MT and Tuck from SOB will be in attendance.
  • Brazwell’s SOB run 7pm every Wednesday with required beers afterward. According to MT, the running is optional, so it’s really just a HDHH with running beforehand.
