Big Boy Pants

Big Boy Pants

Ok so it was raining!!!

Three of the finest had their big boy pants on this fine morning (Madam Tussauds, Paper Jam and Outback) and started Bagpipe at the Vine in the rain.  MT and Outback actually started at 5am in the rain with a little mosey with some of our Swift buddies.

Unfortunately four decided they did not want to get their skirts wet and drove to the parking deck (you know who you are).

Given the total disrespect of driving the Q though of an appropriate punishment that went down something like this:

  1. 100 Burpees (10 burpees per minute for 10 minutes)
  2. Run up one flight and back down
  3. 150 Russian twists – 30 (avg) per minute for 5 minutes
  4. Run up one flight and back down
  5. 100 Merkins (approx 20 avg per min for 5 mins)
  6. Run up one flight and back down
  7. 100 Carolina Dry Docks (approx 20 avg per min for 5 mins)
  8. Run up one flight and back down
  9. 100 Squats (approx 20 avg per min for 5 mins)

Gents can not believe some of you drove to the parking deck, that was a first for me.  Hopefully you will be shammed enough but also glad you all made it unlike others who fart sacked!

Cheers and thanks for the lead.

Three-Legged Reindeer

6 men gathered in the pouring rain for the #F3FastTwitch gift exchange. Having none of Turkey Leg’s stocking stuffers, we decided to run instead.

The Thang

The three-legged reindeer: Run to from base to intersection of Raintree Lane and 4Mile Creek (brief stop at gravel lot for 10 IWs). Just run the three legs until time runs out…meet back at the intersection at 0605.

  • Leg 1 – Raintree Lane to Providence Rd and back
  • Leg 2 – Blinking light on 4Mile Creek at Whitethorn and back
  • Leg 3 – Raintree Lane to gravel lot and back

Crippling indeed.

Moleskine

In my car at 0510, no one else in the parking lot, a driving rain beating down on the roof of my sporty Corolla, I was praying. First for the rain to stop…then for no one else to show. Neither request was answered, as a few cars pulled in. Instead, it was #ISI. It’s why we do what we do. *Teardrop*

Mermaid exited his Jeep wearing a tailored, slim fit trash bag. That was his weather gear. Had to be no more than the 4 gallon size…it was form fitting…even cut into a stylish V-neck. And apparently he totally insulted Utah, giving A51’s goalie no credit for his svelteness, by offering him a lawn and leaf size bag to protect him from the rain…told him black was slimming. Utah declined, opting for a store bought rain parka instead.

The three legs we ran this morning were brutal, made even more treacherous with the threat of hydroplaning. There was speed to burn out there. Turkey Leg knocked out 8.6. Fault Line got 8 probably. Mermaid, Utah and YHC tallied 7.5, especially after some extra credit miles to track down a wandering Fault Line on 4Mile Creek. Alf totaled about 6.5…but a least two of those were at an all out sprint pace back to the facilities at base…then he really worked those Fast Twitch muscles with a 5 to 7 minutes #hovercraft as he jettisoned wasteful cargo.

Merry Christmas!

TL on Q next Tuesday.

Happy’s Holiday P-Angel tree splashfest!

After a little instruction on the “out of the norm” process today the disclaimer was given and the gift selection began.

11 Pax were welcomed to the party with some upbeat Christmas music streaming via bluetooth while a yet to be decorated (but lighted) tree awaited them in the corner of the pavilion. PAX took turns choosing a tag from the Christmas wrapped box, each tag contained a different exercise to be shared with the group. We rotated through in an attempt to get in at least 25 different exercises in 45 minutes. When the time ended the tree stood with 29 P-angels hanging on the branches declaring the overachievers were finished!

The Moleskin:
A little unconventional but challenging none the less. It was a little difficult to hear the mumble chatter over the heavy pouring rain and splashing through the puddles as not every one was lucky enough to be under the pavilion with the solid roof. I heard alot of groans when I think we hit the 5th consecutive exercise in a row with merkins. I don’t know about you guys but I could sure use some Advil right now except the fact that it is on the top shelf in my kitchen cabinet and I can’t lift my smoked arms high enough to reach it!

Kotters to Donut Hole for joining us and bringing out his 2.0’s in the rain.Where was everyone else 2.0;s today? Glad to see Double E joining us at Thrive Hairband that is about as close to 0.0 as I can get! Thank you everyone who brought out suits and jackets to donate.

Merry Christmas to each and everyone and may your family enjoy the blessings of your leadership!

THINE MOLESKINE

– Oh, Kirk. He was so fast and so strong on The Hill. He even gave Maverick (hate, hate, hate) a run for his money. And then when YHC said “halfway there” at 25 Mountain Climbers…Kirk flopped onto his 6 and started to pout. Just saying.

– TClaps to Maverick, Tardy, Alphabet and other Larry Birds up front. You guys were crushing it.

– Bushwood headlocked me for this Q and then informed me that he would not be showing up because he got snipped. Poor guy. He was probably in the fartsack with an ice pack on his cahones.

– Excellent take-out by Snowflake. Merci, amigo.

Thanks for letting me Q and hope to see you guys in the Gloom again soon. #horseneck OUT

While the Cat’s Away…

So our Swift fearless leader is away on holiday vacation and has made the questionable call to leave Haggis, Frasier, and YHC in charge.  Luckily, he has left us the plan for the workout so we have that going for us.
Here is what we will do:
1) Show up at 5:00 for some pre-workout warmup / 2nd F running action
2) Meet up with others and leave the Vine parking lot at 5:15 with the full group
3) Proceed out to Ballantyne Corporate and Harney Dr. to do some dynamic stretching exercises
4) Give brief instruction and prepare the arm computers for the main event as follows:
5a) 10 min Threshold Pace out on Ballantyne Corporate toward Premier Deck and back (turn at 5 min) – rest 2 min
5b) Repeat then rest 2 min
6a) 3 min Interval Pace out Harney Dr. taking a left on Rushmore – regroup jog 2 min
6b) Repeat back to Bull Ring and jog 2 min
7a) 400 m at Repetition Pace around Bull Ring with 400 m jog
7b) 400 m at Repetition Pace around Bull Ring with 400 m jog
If there has not been a mutiny or other uprising by this point, it will be a Christmas miracle.  However, if we do reach this point in the workout, we will be done and will proceed back to meet our Bagpipe brothers for COT.
Note that you need to look up 3 paces for this workout.  These may be found here:  http://runsmartproject.com/calculator or also available via the app VDOT Running Calculator by The Run SMART Project, LLC. That is all for now.  See you tomorrow.

O’Tannenbaum
Moleskine:
O’T is all business.  There was no moleskine provided.  So I will add my own.
-Bed Bugs:  An OT special, not sure anyone likes them.  Not sure they actually exercise any body part.  Generates a lot of mumble chatter, so they’re good for something, I guess.
Good to have a few folks out who were visiting from out of town and new guys to The Matrix.  The steady Monday crowd has grown all year and now it’s a regular high teens and low 20’s every week.  Let’s hope it holds up once the cold actually sets in.
Merry Christmas to all.

Tree Fall

If a tree falls in the woods, and no one hears it, does it make a noise? Meatheads aren’t traditionally known for their philosophical prowess, but the 12 who posted this fine morning have been considering the question ever since. Because, as we all know too well, if a backblast doesn’t post, one begins to wonder if the workout actually happened. Of course, post the backblast too late and no one actually reads it, which I think means the workout didn’t happen … twice.

On this fine misty morning interspersed with torrential downpours and harmonized with the best of Pandora’s Def Leppard radio, 12 terrific gents performed as follows:

  • warmup (get the blood and joints moving):  SSH, IW, Mtn Climbers
  • Swing Set: 10 swings, 1 press, 15 swings, 2 presses, 25 swings, 3 presses, 50 swings, 4 presses
  • 5×5: double-racked squats
  • Swing Set repeato
  • 5×5 (each leg): goblet side lunges (KB in goblet position)
  • Swing set repeato
  • 5×5: Farmer’s Carry 50 yards while partner holds plank
  • Swing Set repeato
  • 5 double-racked squats, 5 goblet side lunges, 5 double-racked squats, 5 side lunges, 5 single-legged good mornings (each side)
  • Swing Set repeato

Moleskine:

  • Excellent time as always with the men of meathead. Except for the counting part (which always tends to dim the chatter) had a good group of like minded indiviuals, encouraging form and grinding through the load.
  • Simple workout –> simple result #getstronger
  • Tested the limits of my waterproof speaker. It did fine, but phone was still drying out while I recorded the names in COT so add in if I missed you #QFail. You don’t get credit unless you are listed below…

Announcements:

  • We had some, but they’re probably expired by now.
