While pre-running with Happy Meal and Cul-de-Sac, we notice a the Duckworth Parking lot is covered with police cars and caution tape. We decide it’s best not to get to close. Little did we know someone was shot and murdered there just hours ago. Scary stuff. Be safe out there.
Despite the veteran crowd, I laid down a disclaimer. From launch, we dropped into the Staybridge Suites parking lot for COP

Thank you to Cul-de-Sac and Happy Meal for joining me on the pre-run. Happy Meal has already established himself a solid SOB. Dude posts everywhere and is crushing workouts. Cheers to you. Cul-de-Sac continues to share wisdom and positivity throughout his careers twists. He’ll be an asset wherever he goes.
So here is Ackbar’s attempt at a Backblast, because that’s my homework. Posse and Moneyball were our teachers. The Force is strong with them, us students were ready to learn. So here we go, best I can remember at this late hour:
Warm Up
Prof Moneyball took us a mosey around the “normal path,” and either before or after lectured us of the necessity of the disclaimer. Don’t sue, don’t sue, your responsibility. Understood.
This was followed by 55 STH. Each student had to do five in cadence, and that added up quickly.
Then around the circle each student had to lead a brief warmup workout to get our pacing and counts right.
The Main Workout
We then Moseyed to front of middle school. We were instructed how to “watch for the 6,” or instruct the faster guys ahead of time to do Planks or Marys. No rest, as it were.
We then Partnered in Pairs:
1st – 50 Dips – One Partner does dips, 2nd Partner runs half of the parking lot
2nd – 50 Steps Ups – One Partner does Steps Ups, 2nd Partner runs across the lot to the grass and back
Mosey to the big steps at the High School were a few buses park. It’s a handy loop for Stairs fun or Moneyball’s Triple Nickel Can’t Count Thing.
1st – Calf Raises and 2 laps
2nd – Triple Nickel Can’t Count Thing. 5 burpees at the bottom, run up the hill, and 5 squats at the top. It cut off before I could finish my last round, thus the subjective counting thing. Just as well, I was running out of steam…so thanks!
Back to the Middle School for the Starfish. I think it was a Starfish, having 4 corners and a “center of the universe,” a Moneyball quote. We did 5 Speed-Skaters at the center and 5 low squats at the corners. That was fun.
Concluding with a Jail Break to COT.

Sorry I missed the coffee afterwards.
I learned what “hospital name” means. I literally thought “hospital? Someone sick?” In my field going to the hospital goes in that direction, not your actual name. Seriously, someone says “Brad” at Q and I’ll be genuinely confused.
Hope this cuts the mustard as far as a BackBlast goes. I’ll aim for more Star Wars illustrations when I do another.
Peace.
8 pax showed up to Commitment on a day of slightly changed location (Kensington Elementary) and with Q School also going on. Thanks to those that decided to come out. Those that went to Q School, I expect you to put what you learned to work soon. Come visit one of the site Q’s for a day to Q….don’t wait on us to come to you. (Dana – I’ve asked you several times now….no more excuses).
They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I warned Mad Dog before we started that I was ripping his Q from two weeks prior since I liked it so much…with what I hoped was a little added Fuse Box flair. Most of the pax picked up on the part I said about making it better. Poor Mad Dog got ragged on for 2 minutes straight….my bad. Lets get this 90’s rock alternative party started.
WARM UP
Run around the school parking lot…only to find out the chain blocked off an easy path….through the grass to circle up.
THE THANG
Run down to the rock pile to grab lifting rocks. Walking curls back to the cars (so I can grab my speaker playing 90’s rock). At the cars switch to walking shoulder press to the basketball courts. Near the end Damascus comments that he wished his shoulders didn’t burn out so easily. I think that’s everyone’s shoulders as mine where burning as well. Find a cone (8 cones total and 8 pax made for the perfect number) and drop your rock. Meet in the middle where I left the speaker to explain exercises. First round – different exercise at each rock with cardio exercise in the middle. Timer whistles 70 seconds for rock work and 60 seconds for cardio. Cones were spaced roughly 30- 40 yards from the center running to the rocks or back to the center each time you hear the whistle. Trust me when I say its much easier to understand and explain when you are there vs the back blast which is making this sound very difficult. Rock Exercises:
Cardio:
Round 2: Same Rock exercises but abs in the middle. Stressed the importance of running to and from rocks on the whistle in order to keep heart rate up.
Abs:
Put the Rocks up. Glad to see some of the stronger pax run with the rocks over their heads. I hung back because I was wore out to check on the 2.0’s. Meet back at the cars….pax finished SSH’s just in time for me to let them know that we had 2 minutes left and we were going to spend them doing T Merkins. A lot of audible groaning, but we finally got it going. With 30 seconds left I informed the group that we wouldn’t stop until Spinach did 3 T Merkins. Good work to push through those last 3 young man…..We Done!

Still all kinds of humid today but, unlike last week, we spent more than half of our time outside the deck and in the fresh air which helped a lot. The burpees and the stairs did not, but it’s The Brave so that’s how it goes. Solid crew of 7 kicked some ass today. Two made it 4 full rounds, one a good amount faster than the other (you can guess who that was — hint, he was bald). The rest made it almost 4 rounds and most guys got right around 5 miles or more.
Vanishing AMRAP was courtesy of Rachel who did a different version of it a year or so at The Brave and it sucked so much it stuck with me until I could pull it out today. You’d think it would get easier dropping exercises, but it never feels that way. Feels like you just barely escaped death, but that’s about as good as it got.
Speaking of One Niner, thanks for stepping up as YHC’s replacement Site Q of The Brave. It’s been fun, but I can only take so much of Mario and Tuck so it’s time for someone else to step in. Seriously though, One Niner is a regular and should bring some great new energy and ideas to The Brave. Welcome!!
