A Romantic Nightmare

A Romantic Nightmare

9 PAX did Jack Webb variations around the perimeter of Stonecrest on a brisk morning at Nightmare on Elm.

Of course this was not the original plan.  YHC had a more adventurous “headlamp required” type weinke planned which involved trespassing (you know, standard Tuck stuff), but realized upon arrival that the Elm bridge construction completely obliterated access to the planned route.  After taking a moment to choke down the disappointment and shame, YHC turned to an old friend, Jack Webb, to save the day.  It seemed like a decent idea at the time.

Moleskin

After all of this Jacking off my arms sure are dead. Just gonna leave that there.

After spending time in that romantic courtyard next to Flying Biscuit YHC feels like we all went on a date together. Tagalong and Mighty locked eyes for a fleeting moment, but quickly came to their senses and shook it off, with the unspoken vow to explore these new feelings at a later time.

On the first sprint Frehleys left it all out there. It was frightening.

Strong work by the group today. We did a great job of going back for the 6 and keeping everyone together.  There were some things YHC would have smoothed out but overall it was pretty solid for an improvised Q. Thank you Circuit City for the opportunity to lead.

Neither the cool temp nor impending  playlist deterred five pax from posting at this week’s rendition of Meathead. I knew better than to stray from the 250-swing template but felt emboldened enough to swap out some of the 80’s power chords for, well, a few synthesizers and even an acoustic cover (in honor of Unplugged). War Eagle dug it stating, “Frehley’s would be rolling over in his bed right now but I like the mix.” Naturally, this led to stories of concerts, pregnant wives and pregnant wives at concerts. Remember concerts? Definitely what I’ve personally missed the most these past nine months. As for the actual workout my goal was to go all out on an exercise one time. I know when I have multiple sets ahead of me I tend to pace myself/sandbag. We’ll find out tomorrow morning if it worked!

Moleskin

Great group today and as always I appreciate the opportunity to lead. It seemed bringing back partner work might not have been the best idea as I spent most of my time explaining what 2 is 1 means on counting and reminding everyone what’s next. The PAXS pushed hard today even though the Q straight out lied to them– “We will not be crossing any major roads today– Providence road 2 times and Howie Mine once”– Sorry fellows..

After the workout I had a great conversation with Damascus about our group. Guys lets not take for granted what we have and who we have in our WAXHAW region, which is a great group of leaders/men in our community. I  have traveled to a few different locations as many of you have and I truly feel we have something special here — the banter, the 2nd and 3rd F’s, the jokes, pushing each other, and just the overall group we have. Lets continue to challenge each other and ourselves to make this region shine– step out of your comfort zone, it is more than the workout

Few call outs

Shake n Bake–  running 30-45 seconds behind at the start —about gave me a darn heart attack when he pulled a Hartsville and cut off a corner and came running through the alley way.. Lesson Lil Boo Peep must have showed him.

Great seeing Banjo and Damascus back out.

Gazelles as usual- Bottlecap, Glidah, Chastian, Transporter,  Dasher where crushing it but they have a two new additions Sugar Daddy and Carb Load.. boys were killing it today

Zinfandel seemed a little extra grumpy today — calling peeps out on poor counting during partner work, called the Q out for his Goodfella style burpees, and continued to harass the Q for stating we would not be crossing any major roads — It is official we have a new POWER COUPLE– A LAWSONITE AND BRIARCRESTIAN have finally joined swords.

Schneider, Shake n Bake, Recalculating and Maddog as always crushing with no questions.

Deflated and Foundation -always a pleasure when the 2/3’s of the only 3 man power couples  shows up- guess SMITHERS drew the short straw and had to stay home on baby duty.

Announcements

9am- 5 stones this Saturday for cross-country trail cleaning- bring chainsaw, blowers, loppers ( who says loppers??) , metal racks — FYI only gas powered chainsaw and blowers are approved by Bottlecap and he is the one who continually says LOPPERS

Next Saturday- Downtown clean up project stay tuned

6th man- Deflated– brought out by Foundation and Moneyball and has lost 70 lbs since then. Got his name from Damascus since he is from Boston area

Christ Closet has furniture that needs piking up

Posse – More Like Pu… Amirite?!

I forgot that the ever so sly, head site lead Schneider asked me to Q last week after COT. Nothing on the calendar for me to double check but his relentless Site Q Secretary Easy Button texted me at 9pm to say “you still on for tomorrow?” See how easy being a Site Q is?

Honestly both of these two guys are great contributing members to F3 Waxhaw. They both post constantly and have absolutely moved up in their fitness journey. Not sure if EB has EH’d anyone but he’s always got some good sarcasm and quiet jabs to throw in the AM. Schneider is from Crests of Briar and is the other half of the dynamic duo, of which Chicken Little is a member. These guys recruit a ton and Schneider brings a similar cheerful attitude to every workout.

So for my 55th Q, I thought I would focus on the positivity of posting at a well managed, fun site. I won’t focus on negativity in the human form, which is Posse. I don’t want to focus on his hate of my personal Q counting but the fact he’s in fact happy to count the 2, possibly 3 times, that I’ve had an opportunity to pass my Q to a peer because something has come up.

DiCCS given. Let’s roll…

MOLESKIN

Thanks to all those that joined me yesterday in the high 20s temp. It’s a bit of mental gymnastics in the AM when it’s that cold. I’m impressed with all the mashers that continue to post and shocked no one has gotten stuck to their cinderblocks. Great work fellas.

For those that haven’t caught on yet, my sarcasm runs pretty thick. That was until that god awful Posse crossed me and I’m left wanting to destroy every inch of his soul. We have a ton of mediocre guys here in Waxhaw, hell it’s our main recruiting criteria as of late, but this little guy is off the freaking charts.

I’m kidding. I’m not sure why I’m Posse’s target as of late but i got my big boy pants on. My ego should hold out about another week before I actually flatten his 4 car tires. I’m going to need more than yoga to reduce the stress of his harassment and bullying.

I’m tired. I will make sure to circle back for you as much as you need tomorrow Posse.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

It’s too late for yesterday’s news…

Happy Hump Day!

Well,  Started the week off with a double Q for Wednesday morning and ended up with just one. Thankfully another PAX from F3 Waxhaw was planning his attendance for the week and noticed the over-extended YHC and made a point to call it out on social media so I could quickly and apologetically rectify the situation. Tragedy was thankfully avoided and everything is as it should be for the day.

Warmorama:

Mosey to a spot on the west side of student lot and do 20 X SSH’s, mosey to cafeteria entrance of MS and do 15 X IW’s, Mosey around back of MS and stop in first parking lot for stretching.

Thang:

Short mosey/walk over to a conveniently erected wall for MT/DK Webb from 1:4 up to 5:20 and pause for a few minutes to do 20 X Knee Slaps (at top) and 20 X BBSU’s (at bottom) while running around the MS Teacher’s lot. Back to MT/DK Webb and do from 6:24 up to 8:32 I was smoked at this point and was about to fall on my face so I ended the misery for myself and anyone else not quite feeling up to the task today.

Next we do Paula Abdul with 20 X Speed Skaters at secong light pole and back for 20 X Monkey Humpers at the 1st light pole and repeat until we reach the circle at the Globe. Second Paula Abdul called for the front drive but this time we did 5 X Mike Tysons and 10 X Dry Docks to the other end of the drive.

Mosey back to West side of student lot (1:00 Minute left) pair up with someone of like speed for a race to COT. By the time that was all figured out we had only 40 seconds left but we all made it in about 35 seconds with time to spare.

Done!

Moleskin: I tried and I failed today to make it through the awful and dreaded MT/DK Webb. Was stupid to even try and I felt like a failure to myself and to my fellow PAX with whom I was entrusted to lead for the day’s workout. HOWEVER, Nothing worth doing is ever easy and we all need to continue to build our strength to perform. Some day I will complete that stupid Jack Webb and I hope YOU are there with me.

Announcements:

Added incentive, everyone got to watch me do 87 burpees to pay Auburn’s debt to Unplugged and his Gump Nation. 3 burpees for every point we lost by. Unplugged verified that Alabama fans wouldn’t have paid for their full debt. As per his promise, no one else HAD to do any burpees. But I think we all learned that Shep doesn’t really like burpees because when I offered for him to switch from hip thrusters and Fondas, he still didn’t do any burpees. So he sits on a throne of lies! Watch for Bernanke on the TikTok channels of Carolina Courts workers. He kept bragging about his good form, so much that he skipped one station and ran up ahead to show the good workers what hip thrusters should really look like, mountain man style.

Unplugged encouraged us all to scour the Exicon for strange exercises.

I guess it’s not Kotters to Countertop anymore because he’s sleighing it this December! Great to see you out, brother. Well done.

As we were leaving, there were sightings of strange elves taking selfies in circus-like wooden cutouts. Police are looking into it.

El fin.

Not welcome back

YHC pulled into the lot around 0500 and it was eerily quiet out there. Usually, there’s a herd of Swifters heading out for a pre-run, but they must have decided the extra 1.3 miles wasn’t necessary this morning. Atlas was there, but after getting out to check the temperature, he opted for 15 more minutes of warmth. Cooter2 climbed out of his car at 0502 and we headed out for pre-mosey at 0503. When we got back to the lot, 8 studs joined us for the main event.

Disclaimer: I’m not a professional, etc.

Warm-up jog along Ballantyne Commons, at which point Mighty Mite started complaining that he didn’t like where things were headed. To throw him off the scent, we turned right on Rushmore to circle up for COP in the parking lot:

  • SSH x 16 IC
  • IW x 10 IC
  • LSS x 10 IC
  • LSMerkins x 12 IC

Mosey to the base of Ben Nevis to crush the pax’s spirits.

20 dips, 10 derkins, 10 split squats per leg, the mosey up the hill to the first lot on the right. Plank for the six. Run back down to the bottom and repeato the set. This is where Cooter2 decided discretion was the better part of valor and headed back to the launch rather than risking a hip injury.

Mosey to the pond at Rushmore and Harney where the pax planked up again for instructions.

Partner up (size and speed don’t matter). P1 does called exercise and P2 runs around the pond (bear crawl the bridge). Flapjack until the required number of reps are completed:

  • 100 merkins
  • 200 squats

Each pax rounded the pond twice during this circuit.

Mosey up Harney and turn left, quick plank to wait for the six, then take the next right. Duck into another lot for more Mary (hollow body hold) while we wait for the six. Mosey back to the launch and circle up for more Mary:

  • Plankorama
  • Merkin wave
  • LBC x 20 IC
  • Protractor
  • Box cutters x 15 IC
  • Flutters x 15 IC

Done

Circle up with the Swift pax (Frazier, Bunker, Paper Jam, Atlas, and Bratwurst) – thanks to Paper Jam for the take out.

Announcements:

  • Please be mindful of the social distancing mandate issued by the Governor.
  • Please keep Bout Time and his family in your thoughts and prayers as his 2.0, Jennings, undergoes a relapse of his leukemia. There’s a sign-up genius on Slack if you have the ability to perform some yard work for the family during a very difficult time.
  • Per Bratwurst: Project 658 (an east Charlotte ministry that serves kids and poverty-stricken families, many from refugee families) is in need of winter clothes for kids and teens – if you have any gently-used winter gear – jackets, gloves, hats, etc. — please bring it next Tuesday Dec 15 and Citgo will collect it and pass it along.
  • Per Brushback: Brookstone School (a Christian school providing educational opportunities for under-served students in Uptown) is fundraising as it tries to increase enrollment from ~190 to 250 students over the next few years. Please reach out to him with interest or questions. Details on the school can be found here.

Moleskine:

  • Thanks to Cooter2 for the invitation to Q Bagpipe. As I told him on the pre-run, I had never Qed at Bagpipe and wasn’t sure I’d ever posted there. If I have, it’s been a long time. It was good to have a chance to catch up with Cooter2 on our pre-run. He reminded me that he still had my 35# KB, which is always good to know (I’ve loaned out so many KBs that I’ve started to lose track).
  • We ended up getting about 3 miles of running, which is pretty solid for a 45-minute boot camp. Some of the pax seemed to think the running was excessive as there were cries of “This isn’t Swift!” and “Please don’t come back!” this morning. Your feedback is appreciated and will be given the consideration it deserves.
  • It was great to have a #kotters carpool this morning with Pulled Pork and Brushback emerging from retirement to post this morning. Brushback recently bought Frehley’s house, so he’s officially an SOB – please stay on him so he doesn’t sneak back away to solo workouts!
  • I don’t know about the rest of the pax, but I felt Kirby’s support from the fartsack this morning.
  • Thank you for following my lead this morning. Hopefully it was worth getting up early for it. SYITG!

New skunk place but same skunk.

First time I posted or Q’ed at Skunk in a long time hence the runner arms I brought out this morning.  It’s been so long I remember when Skunk used to park over at the school and not by the field.  Man, how long has that been?

Anyhow, Horsehead asked if I would come out of Skunktirement and lead the PAX on a day he “Couldn’t make it”.  So I did.

12 strong men showed up to heckle each other, gossip like school girls, and on occasion lift a bell.  We also did some ’round the church runs (without the KB’s) just to keep it warm.

Exercises include snatch, swing, merkin, clean and press, good morning, RDL, thrusters, sumo-deadlift high pull, OH lat pulls and burpees.  At least 14% of the group completed some of the burpees.  Maybe.

Things I witnessed.

  • I think the move over to the parking lot by the lacrosse field is just really a half step to full on transition to Ultimate on Tuesdays at the Skunk across field.
  • Lois has an uncanny amount of Myrtle Beach related trivia.  And not the kind of trivia you normally find on the tourist brochures.
  • Cage might take more piss breaks than a dog on a street lined with fire hydrants
  • Tebow, was concerned someone was stealing his #13 Short Bus.  We also learned he likes to shop at Costco during senior citizen hour and he was asking Stone Cold for help moving a “package”
  • I think it was Header that let out a “fart” early on.  Who knows though.  It sounded like a little squeaker like the car horn on a Ford Festiva.  Funky Cold soon followed it with a full on F150 dually crew cab man fart, that might have left an oil slick.  Stone Cold quickly social distanced.
  • There was a lot of conversation about who’s college football team sucks the most.  Heavy competition there.

Tebow delivered a strong takeout.

Truman Gates comes to Hawks Nest

A Trio of Area51 “begatten” Waxhaw pax (Fuse Box, Posse & Chastain) posted with passports in hand at Hawks Nest.  Among many other unsavory things, they were treated to a Puddin’ Pop disclaimer that included a John Dalton (Patrick Swayze in Roadhouse) quote about “watching backs” and “taking out the trash”.

A solid crew of 22, indeed, helped Puddin’ and site Q’s Hopper & Deep Dish take out the trash.  Since Puddin’ is neither on Slack nor post backblasts; and because Posse asked for a backblast at 8:14am – YHC is your Huckleberry.  But don’t expect 2 or 3 backblasts for the same workout as is the custom in the Land of the Waxhaws.

What follows below is very little Thang and as much Moleskine as I can recall.  But don’t worry, Clover promised to fill in all the blanks as well as make up some stuff.

So here goes —

COP consisted of your basic stuff.  Though at one point, I thought Puddin’ was going to call Makthar N’Djaiye’s but instead went with the H-R merkins.  Mildly disappointing.

Slingshot had already worked up a sweat on his run in from the heart of Olde Providence, so he was ready to go.  Not sure which of the OP denizens joined him – perhaps IHOP, Salt-N-Pepa and Huddle House?  T-claps

We then ran down to Abbotswood for what would be a long 1/2 pipe beatdown in groups of 3.  On the run, I was thankful I am vertically challenged so not to potentially clotheslined a la Geraldo, Hopper, Gloss, etc.  My triumvirate included Marge & IHOP, both of whom were likely hating it as they weighted for me to unhook the plow as they did many more called exercises than I.

Ickey was already complaining about the running, at this point.

Brandi and Chastain were there, even running together at one point.  Chastain should have broken out his tripod (true story) right then for that photo op, but Brandi likely would have taken off his shirt prior to the snapshot.

Chastain was circling back for the six on a few occasions as well.  Good man.

Posse’s headlamp was mistaken for a car on a few occasions…don’t see those things much in these parts….headlamps, that is.

Hammer has resurfaced lately, and it warmed my heart to see the behooded grappler.

Buc-ee’s was sporting the Buc-ee’s brand t-shirt this morning, which from a distance in the gloom resembled an old school Aquaman or some other dorky DC comic hero, but we’ll go with Aquaman.

Sable was getting after it while lamenting Yosef’s misfortune with Puddin’ and Gloss.  Motorboat was mocking the lot of them.  It’s the Sun Belt, fellas.  The Sun Belt.  Ooh-La-La…

On the way back, sort of, to Colony Place – we did more merkins at each Clark Griswold on Summerlin.   After which Puddin’ called Buc-ee’s for a 10-count but took off running again when Buc-ee’s got to 2.5 in his count…or was it 8.5?

Spackler bolted from COT, certainly not out of disinterest in filling his passport, rather nature’s calling or because it was too cold for him….or because he checks out of any announcements lasting more than 37 seconds.

Someone said we got 2.6’ish miles?  I don’t know.  Who cares except runners on Strava and Rucktards.

New workout starting at Porter Ridge HS in January.  Consult your globe to find that one, and pack a lunch…and your passport.  Pretty sure Horsehead lives in that neck of the backwoods.

Wasn’t mentioned in the announcements, but for those of you inclined to pray — please remember Bout Time’s son Jennings.  At 5 years old, he is battling leukemia for the second time – and they have a steep hill to climb; but Jennings and his parents Lauren & Joel are good climbers.  More importantly, they trust in their Lord & Savior Jesus Christ and their God who never leaves them nor forsakes them.

Bout Time shared the following in his latest CaringBridge post — it is from Paul’s letter to the Christ-followers in Rome: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.”  HOPE, men.  HOPE.

Time for some discipline

A fast team at Ignition did nearly 6 miles with mind erasers, leg and ab exercises, staggered races, and Indian runs to please Rubbermaid. Not everybody finished at 6:15, but all had fun. Really. They did. Special kudos to Sugardaddy, who is 2x as fast as a few months ago, and Tool Time, who admittedly benefited from Hurry #rainsacking.

Meanwhile, I thought you’d be interested in observations from tonight’s reading at #F3Sanctuary. We are studying the Christian disciplines, such as meditation, prayer, study, solitude, guidance, and celebration. Our author contends there are 2 main reasons to practice the disciplines:

  1. Spiritual competence. Being competent at anything requires practice and discipline. Think about your fitness and your job. Why would spirituality be different?
  2. Jesus did. And he is God. Jesus practiced the disciplines. Why would his divine self need them but we don’t?

This week’s discipline is #service. It is found in a lifestyle in relationship with God. True service loves hiddenness, doing small things, being indiscriminate, and meeting needs. I found particularly powerful the truth that service is one of the best ways to gain humility, especially hidden service. By choosing to serve, we achieve freedom: from pride, from needing to feel important, from the need to insist on our rights. And I found particularly insightful the observation that allowing others to serve us is a discipline itself: by submitting to allow others to serve us, we recognize their “kingdom authority” over us, receiving a spiritual gift that need not be repaid.

Thanks to Shake n’ Bake for his testimony at COT. In serving his community this morning, he was rebuked. But he gladly paid that price to do the right thing. I am thankful Shake is in my community.

Out.
