Date: 2025-11-11 AO: bagpipe Q: Starch PAX: kirby, Roulette, wildturkey, taggart FNGs: None COUNT: 5 WARMUP: The wind chill was 18 degrees, and it was nice and breezy as 4 pax (with an eventual 5th joining late) showed up ready to put in the work on a clear Veterans Day morning.
Jogged around the parking lot and some SSHs to warm up.
THE THANG: The WOD is called the Chad 1000X in honor of veteran Chad Wilkinson who died by suicide Oct. 29, 2018 as a result of several traumatic brain injuries, blast-wave injuries, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) stemming from many deployments across more than two decades of service. This is publicized by the Step Up foundation created by Chad’s wife, and the goal of the organization is to honor Chad’s life and legacy and to raise awareness for suicide prevention.
This workout was one that Chad came up with for himself as he was working toward a 23,000-foot climb in Argentina. The workout is simple. 1,000 step ups on a 20-inch box. This can be weighted, slick, individual, with a partner, with a team, etc.
For the purposes of our 45-minute bootcamp, we did the 1000 reps as a team. We had a team of 5, so we each got in 200 step ups/squats as some had to modify. We did 40 steps ups per person for 5 rounds. The fountain outside of the TowneBank was also taller than 20 inches, but the pax were up for the challenge.
I can’t imagine doing all 1000 – we felt the pain pretty thoroughly after 1/5th of the reps we woulda done had it been a solo event. May be worth looking at having a CSAUP around this time next year, but I digress for now.
Between each round, we’d do a lap in the parking lot and a one-minute plank before getting into the next set.
When that was over, we had some time to continue, so we went to the neighboring parking lot with a newly painted building that’ll soon be Reid’s. Did some dips, burpees, and derkins and had a blast.
With 7 minutes left, we headed back to launch for some Mary. American Hammers, Flutters, Planks, 6-inch holds, heels to heaven, and LBCs made an appearance.
kirby was a tad late, so he didn’t even have time to warm up. He just jumped out of the car and joined in. Glad you finally found us right next to launch
Roulette had 40lbs in his ruck but was unphased. He had already guessed what was happening and was ready to embrace the suck.
It’s been a minute since we’ve had the privilege of seeing taggart at Bagpipe – really glad you made it out!
After wildturkey had Q at Firetstarter yesterday and chose to do stairs. I wasn’t sure how he’d hold up. He griped about it, but he did every rep with a ruck and pushed through
MARY: Yep
