Birthed in the Bombogenesis

From Waverly exploratory workout #1 on 1/5/18

Recently it became clear that PAX from both Ballantyne and Western UC were interested in starting a Friday bootcamp at the new behemoth of a mixed use shopping center, Waverly (Prov Rd. & Ardrey Kell).  An exploratory bootcamp was organized w/ Argonaut on Q.  Argo had a late-breaking conflict, leaving PAX w/ yours truly.

Meteorologists described the current weather pattern as a “bombogenesis”.  Seemed fitting for us (at least the genesis part) since this was surely the start of something.  After a hypothermia & frostbite-centric disclaimer (11 degrees at 0530), we were off into uncharted territory (also un-sharted territory since Mario wasn’t there).

Thang

COP (all IC): 15 IW, 15 SSH, 15 lateral cotton pickers, 15 MC, 15 merkins

Mosey to 4-story parking deck behind Whole Foods.  10 burpees @ level 1.  Run up ramp to level 2.  10 burpees & 20 American hammer.  Down stairs to level 1, then up ramps to level 3.  10 burpees, 20 American hammer & 30 flutter.  Down stairs to level 1, then up ramps to level 4.  10 burpees, 20 American hammer, 30 flutter & 40 LBC’s.  Down stairs and plank for the six.

Mosey South to traffic circle for a 4-leg starfish.  10 plank jacks @ end of each leg & 10 plank jacks each time back to the center.

Mosey to shopping area courtyard for short wall pinball.  Run from wall to wall around the courtyard, stopping for 10 reps of wall-related exercises.  We did incline merkins, jump-ups, dips, derkins, hip-slappers, step-ups, Bulgarian split-squats and donkey kicks.

At narrow road w/ shops/boutiques on either side, starting at Chuy’s, perform 10 Freddie Mercuries at each of 10 trees.

Mosey back to start and elbow plank for remaining 1 minute.

Moleskin

There is no longer any doubt. This is going to be a great AO.  It is gigantic and has all the the features you would want.  The amazing thing is, Rea Farms, a 2nd mixed use shopping center currently in early development on the other side of Prov Rd, is even bigger than Waverly.  Once that is finished this AO will be a two-headed monster of bootcamp goodness.

There are also plenty of good options already for coffeeteria and/or 3rd F: Panera, Chick-fil-A and Starbucks w/ more coming.

It is also strategically located on the fringes of A51, Ballantyne and Western UC.  YHC sincerely hopes that PAX from all 3 areas converge on this site regularly once it is launched.

Huge thanks to the 5 bros that left their comfort zones or fart sacks this morning to explore w/ me in 11 degree weather. It was awesome.

Millbridge Run #2: RouteFella

6 men posted in balmy 45 degree temps in at 0515 in Millbridge (subdivision in Waxhaw) to get some miles in and continue to get to know this very strong AO.

After greeting and watching Jingles pull in on two wheels, we were off w/ no disclaimer.  This week we ran a 1.7 mi hilly loop route which was about 50% on the road and 50% on a shiny new path through the woods over various wood bridges and through 1 tunnel.  The first leg of the route featured a long and deceptively steep hill heading South on Millbridge Parkway.   This immediately gave us ~100 feet of gain (elevation profile below is backwards).  Next up was a left hand turn on Lydgate, Goodfella’s new stomping grounds.  Contrary to prior statements made on #Slack, no one pooped on his lawn (but YHC may stop on the way home).  Next we headed North on the beautiful new path through the woods, back to the start at the Clubhouse.

Route

Most of us got in around 3 and a half laps, which meant 4 times up the big hill.  YHC had a total of ~500 feet of elevation gain and 6.5 miles.

About a quarter of the way through the first loop, YHC accomplished something that had alluded him for years: the mid-workout EH.  As we crossed paths with an oncoming runner at the traffic circle on Millbridge Parkway, YHC successfully snagged FNG Ryan w/ these magic words: “This is going to sound weird, but, would you like to join us?”.  It was good running w/ him and getting to know him a little bit.  Turns out his son was on Goodfella’s son’s baseball team.  Unfortunately Ryan peeled off before COT, narrowly escaping the F3 naming process.  Hopefully he turns up next week.  Near the end of the run, YHC got greedy and attempted to EH a pair of oncoming runners.  They seemed less than interested.

Goodfella spent the run breaking in his new headlamp and Hollywood is about to order his own.  We got all kinds of lumens up in here.

Another strong performance by Jingles.  Keep up the good work my man!

T-claps to Goodfella, Bratwurst and Jingles for having 100% attendance at the Millbridge run.  Goodfella’s streak ends next week due to travel, so it’s up to Brat & Jingles to keep the dream alive.

Thanks to Bratwurst for taking us out.

Join us next Thursday at 0515.  We launch from the Millbridge clubhouse.  Bring a headlamp.

Millbridge Run #1: Triple Creek Crossing

6 men posted in sub-rational temps at the clubhouse in Millbridge (subdivision in Waxhaw) to get their first taste for what this great AO has to offer.

After greeting and discussing the vision for the site, we were off w/ no disclaimer. The inaugural 1.4 mi loop route featured a variety of surfaces/features to keep things interesting: road, trail, bike path, a large covered bridge, a wood bridge, a long suspension bridge and a shortcut scramble up a steep dirt hill. Typical Tuck.

Route

Most of us got in 3 loops and ~4.5 miles, slightly lower than expected due to the discussion at the beginning, running on trails, freezing weather and ending a few minutes early.  YHC expects over 6 going forward.  Speaking of freezing, that is just what YHC’s beard did.  Now I know what I will look like in 10 years.

Johnny Utah had a PF flare-up shortly after starting and was forced to endure 40 cozy minutes in the warm confines of my car. I’m not sure if I feel bad for him or the rest of us. At the end of the workout he emerged rested and toasty warm to take us out.

Goodfella is a Millbridge resident as of TODAY (1/4) and knew he couldn’t miss the inaugural run. But man, he gets some serious extra credit for posting on moving day. He drove from Ballantyne TO Millbridge for the workout. Then immediately back to Ballantyne to meet the movers. That’s some dedication right there.

Bratwurst wouldn’t miss a new run workout on his home turf. In typical Brat fashion he was there to dish some good headlamp and route advice to the PAX.

Das Boot showed up w/ no HC- a pleasant surprise. My sales pitch at Dromedary the day before must have worked. Despite some leg warmer (yes, leg warmer) issues he made it through unscathed. Definitely hope DB is a regular at this workout.

Jingles, a Millbridge resident, must have succumbed to my Dromedary pitch as well. For most of the run he pondered over how far Millbridge home values would drop after GF’s move. Time will tell, Jingles but I would get out while you still can.

Join us next Thursday at 0515.  We launch from the Millbridge clubhouse.  Bring a headlamp.

  • Having to actually do and call all of those exercises SUCKED.  Thought something was wrong w/ my playlist because it felt like there were at least 10 rounds of burpees at the end.  Also, did not enjoy merk-o-rama or the duck walks. #smoked

Frozen Tears

11 men rolled up to The Maul this morning even though weather.com exists.

Thang

Rapid Fire COP:

  • 10 SSH IC
  • 10 IW IC
  • 10 Merkins IC
  • 10 Makhtar N’Diayes IC
  • 10 Wide-armed Merkins IC
  • 10 MC IC

Mosey to delivery lane behind Michael’s/HT/Target and partner up on the way.

At 1st speed bump partner 1 runs up hill and performs 5 jump squats while partner 2 performs 15 plank jacks and then holds plank.  Flapjack when partner returns.  Repeato at each of 6 total speed bumps.  Mary while waiting for six.

Climb hill to Elm Ln.  Mosey South to St. Matthew Elementary School parking lot.  Mary while waiting for six.

93 Problems

  • Standing at the top of the parking lot and looking South, there are 93 consecutive parking spots that border Elm Ln all the way down to Williams Pond Ln. This stretches for 0.17 miles aka 280 meters aka 305 yards aka 3 football fields #spreadsheet.  Find your partner.  Partner 1 heads South, stopping to perform 1 burpee at each parking spot.  Partner 2 runs South to end of parking lot and returns back to partner.  Flapjack.  Continue until both partners reach end of parking lot.  Circle back for the six.

Mosey awkwardly around Eastern perimeter of the elementary school until finding church parking lot.  Partner carry around left side of church, stopping at each speed bump for 10 partner slap merkins (50 total).

Partner 1 dead hangs from brick wall near St. Matt main entrance. Partner 2 runs down into drainage area, scales retaining wall at returns to Partner 1. Flapjack. 2 total rounds.

Indian run back home through Stonecrest parking lot, stopping twice for Mary.

2 minutes of “Captain Thor” back at launch: An ab exercise done in a 1:4 ratio. 1 big boy sit up to 4 American Hammers (Russian Twist).  We got up to 5 sit ups and 24 American Hammers (yes, that math doesn’t work #mathishard).

Moalscin

  • Thank you Enron, Wild Turkey and Bunker for joining me on a 5k pre-run.  Enjoyed it.  Definitely helped get the blood flowing.  Enron, next time we’ll run UP the #murderhorn like big boys.  Also, thanks for the BB title.
  • YHC had driven past those 93 parking spots countless times but just realized a couple weeks ago that that is the longest stretch of parking spots in Ballantyne (aside from the Blakeney office park running parallel to Rea Rd aka #F3daVinci AO which has the best of everything).  Anyway, YHC knew instantly that something must be done there.  And that something had to be burpees.
  • Definitely lost count during Captain Thor.  Somewhere along the line YHC added an extra 4 American Hammers.  What YHC is trying to say is you’re welcome.
  • Everything we did today was partner based.  Just realized that.
  • Thanks to all for making it out on a 25 degree morning.  Great group today and equally great effort shown by all.
  • As always, thank you Commish and Tool Bag for the opportunity to lead.  Thanks for squeezing me in so YHC could take care of some unfinished business from two weeks ago.  Just realized that YHC probably stole your birthday Q, Tool Bag.  Sorry about that.  Which leads me to my next point.

“I have nothing else planned…”

5 BFF’s posted at #F3daVinci on a wet and near-freezing morning and built a ladder high enough to reach the tallest Christmas tree.

Thang

Mosey to courtyard next to Salsaritas for COP:

  • SSH x 20 IC
  • Lateral cotton pickers x 15 IC
  • MC x 20 IC

Ladder Rules:

YHC is “Q1”. Run for 1 minute. Stop for 10 exercise reps.  Pick a member of the PAX to be Q2.

Q2 leads 1-min run and then 10 reps of a different exercise.  Then, Q1 leads 10 reps of his previous exercise.  Q2 selects the next leader (Q3).

Q3 leads 1-min run and then 10 reps of a different exercise.  Then, Q2 leads 10 reps of his previous exercise.  Q1 leads 10 reps of his previous exercise.  Q3 selects the next leader (Q4).

And on and on we went, up the ladder until 0730.  We got all the way up to Q10.  There were only 5 of us so we cycled through twice.

Exercises as chosen by the Q’s (all in cadence):

  • Q1 (Tuck): 6-count burpees (100 cumulative total)
  • Q2 (Escobar): dips- 5 reps w/ left leg raise, 5 w/ right leg raised (90 cumulative total)
  • Q3 (Tolkien): LBC’s w/ legs at 6 inches (80 cumulative total)
  • Q4 (Gumbo): jumping lunges (70 cumulative total)
  • Q5 (Bunker): low slow squats (60 cumulative total)
  • Q6 (Tuck): boxcutters (50 cumulative total)
  • Q7 (Escobar): incline merkins (40 cumulative total)
  • Q8 (Tolkien): Moroccan Mongolian nightclubs, dance music edition (30 cumulative total)
  • Q9 (Gumbo): SSH (20 cumulative total)
  • Q10 (Bunker): elbow plank w/ 10 count

We closed out the final 2 minutes with various planks next to CFA.

Thine only Moleskine

  • Tolkien showed up for his 2nd consecutive SOB workout dressed for an arctic expedition. Due to his fumbling w/ his armpit zippers (yes, armpit zippers) we were delayed by 2 minutes, but we made it up on the back end.
  • After the first set of burpees YHC proclaimed “I have nothing else planned”.  This was a true statement, as the rest of workout relied on shared Q-ing, but the boys were hoping it meant we were ending 53 minutes early to retire to the delicious confines of Chick-fil-A.  It was then that YHC filled the PAX in on the ladder plan.  This was met with a mix of groans, sighs and mutterings.
  • We spent the majority of the ladder meandering around Blakeney listening to a fine selection of Christmas tunes playing through the shopping center sound system.  YHC spent his solo 3-mi pre-run rocking out in the same area.
  • Fun fact: Escobar taught us that the number 11 doesn’t exist in Colombia.  Skips right from 10 to 12.  Yep.
  • Fire Hazard was w/ us in spirit.  At one point as we were doing some dips, YHC spotted a piggy stuffed animal in the toy store window right in front of us.
  • Tolkien’s Moroccan Mongolian nightclubs (dance music edition) actually turned out to be pretty fun after a while.  The employees at Salsaritas enjoyed watching us do them too.  <unce unce unce unce>
  • The cumulative effect of all of the exercises made for an effective workout.  The biggest challenge of all was keeping track of the proper order of exercises/Q’s.  Somehow we kept each other straight.  Thanks mostly to Bunker.
  • Solid effort today and even better 2nd F.  Thanks for posting on a cold and damp morning.
  • Thanks Gumbo for taking us out
  • All 5 of us thawed out at CFA for a good while.  Solid hang w/ solid dudes.
  • Thank you Fredo for the opportunity to lead a fine group of men at the finest Saturday AO in all the land

Roaming Charges

22 men roamed around #F3TheMaul after being charged with utilizing the surrounding landscape as much as possible.

Thang

Short disclaimer and off w/ no COP.

Run switchbacks on hill to the left of the road on the way to Firebirds.

10 Bulgarian split squats (each leg) on wall between Firebirds and Cantina.

Worm walk with hands and feet on lip of adjacent walls in main fountain area.

10 dips and 10 jump ups at main fountain wall.

2 rounds of people’s chair w/ overhead press and 20 donkey kicks on 1st level of Uwharrie parking deck.

Rapid rock set somewhere behind parking deck.  10 curls, 10 overhead press and 10 tricep extensions.

Mary at Mary (the statue at St. Matt’s) while waiting for the six.

Animal walk of choice around sidewalk encircling statue of Mary.

Mosey to Robinson Farm.  Mary while waiting for the six.

3 rounds of 10 Carolina dry docks on the top breezeway and 20 flutters (each leg) on ground level, w/ bunny hops up the stairs.

Muscle-up repeats on retaining wall on Elm next to St. Matt’s while waiting for six.

Down the hill to delivery road behind Target/Michaels/HT.  10 jump squats at every speed bump.  Plank for the six.

2 ~100m sprints in groups of 3 PAX in front of movie theater.

Moleskine

The goal for this workout was to use the landscape as much as possible during a 2 mile loop from Stonecrest down to Robinson Farm and back.  Along the way we utilized hills, walls, a parking deck, rocks, sidewalks, stairs and a retaining wall.  These are features that make for a great AO.  We had a big group today which was AWESOME.  With that comes the challenge of keeping the PAX together, which is all the more difficult when trying to cover a decent amount of ground while avoiding down time.  Hopefully YHC did a reasonably good job at that today.

It was great to have Fire Hazard back in the mix after his vacation last week.  It’s always strange when he’s not at a workout, since he usually attends all of them, somehow.  YHC imagines that after reading this Bunker will think to himself “If FH attends so many workouts how is he still fat?”.  Bunker, that is hurtful.  Shame on you for hypothetically thinking that in this BackBlast.  It’s a good thing no one reads these.

In Contrast, YHC would like to add that Escobar, Fredo and Goonie are looking very slim these days.  And Wingy is well on his way due to being on day three of a juice cleanse.  Side note: you may want to avoid running directly behind Wingman for the next few days, as it could be slippery.  Q’s please add to your disclaimers.

Doc McStuffins crushed today, as he does.  As he pulled away in his massive pickup we speculated about how many injured kittens and/or sick farm animals he could fit in the bed.  The answer?  Zero.  Because he cured them all.

Thank you Squid for taking us out.

Thank you Commish and Tool Bag for the opportunity to lead.

The Brave / Centurion Post-Thanksgiving Convergence

11 Centurions and Braveites converged at Ballantyne Corporate Park for a special late edition convergence the morning after Thanksgiving.  5 miles were covered amidst a smorgasbord of exercises.  To everyone’s amazement, Mario did not poop his pants.

Thang

Mosey to corner of Huffines Ln and Ballantyne Commons Pkwy (near BB&T).  Circle up for instruction.

Run West on Ballantyne Commons Pkwy, up Ben Nevis to very end (light at Lancaster Hwy).  This is exactly 1 mile.  At start, end and every side-street / entrance in between (8 stations total), stop for merkins.  Start with 2 reps and increase by 2 at every station, for 72 reps total.  Mary when done while waiting for the six.  Then run the route in reverse w/ jump squats instead of merkins.  Then original route with star crunches.  Then reverse route with burpees.  4 rounds of this = 4 miles, ~400 ft elevation gain,  288 reps

After round 2, mosey to retaining wall on Conlan Cir next to Tony’s Pizza:

  • 25 fast curb jumps
  • Bear crawl across Conlan Cir
  • 10 pull-ups on retaining wall
  • Muscle up and over retaining wall

After round 4 return to retaining wall:

  • Same as before but add a 2nd set of 25 fast curb jumps after the bear crawl

Mosey back to Vine.

Moleskine

It was great to get out and Q for the first time in about 4 months due to marathon training.  YHC was happy with the turnout considering it was a holiday weekend.  The 0700 start time and convergence surely helped.  Bout Time and Mario led the pack most of the way, with Doc McStuffins and Bunker not far behind.  The last mile w/ 72 burpees was truly terrible.  Great effort by Cobbler who continues to challenge himself.  Considering the gluttony that normally happens on Thanksgiving, YHC fully expected at least 1 PAX (Mario) to have to make a beeline for the CVS bathroom, but there was no news to report on that front.  Some of us celebrated with Nutty Monkeys at Einstein’s coffeeteria, where we got to hear Hops’ incredible car story.  Spoiler alert: everyone loves Hops (and for good reason).  Cobains to Doc and Frasier who survived a similar workout courtesy of General three weeks prior.  Thank you Mario, Fire Hazard and Thin Mint for the opportunity to Q the toughest workout in South Charlotte.

Balrog II

29 men from multiple regions, generations and backgrounds woke to 30 degree weather and the prospect of running 16 miles w/ pain stations… and posted to Balrog II #CSAUP anyway.

Group

What is Balrog II?: PreBlast

Thang:

Depart from Hickory Tavern Ballantyne at 0700 with shovel flags in tow.

Pain Station #1 @ Ballantyne Corporate Park AO: Goonie on Q

Jack Webb 1/4 up to 6/24. Merkins done with hands on rocks, presses to be done with rocks, as well. Recover with a quick jog down to the western-most building of Loch Ness and back.

Mary while holding rocks above: Dolly x 10 IC, Box Cutter x 10 IC, Rosalita x 10 IC

Next set: Curls, Overhead Presses, and Tricep Curls: 4 sets, 10x, 15x, recovery mosey down and back, 15x, Presses 25x. In between sets, pax would rotate rocks to get a little variety in their lives.

Pain Station #2 @ Elon Park Elementary School AO: Kid Rock on Q

Upon arrival to Elon Park for the 2nd stop, the PAX hydrated and got right to it, by trading in their shovel flags for buckets and sandbags for an obstacles course team challenge. Circle up and count off by 2’s.  1 runner from each team start us off.
Full parking lot run to South driveway for bucket carry. Once around the child carousel and back to starting point without setting down your bucket. On to the “barbed wire” crawl around South landscape bed to the sandbag carry. Carry sandbags along East commons area to telephone pole and back. Drop your bags and off the the plate carry. 1 45lb plate walk to the school and back. Head North along the parking lot to the sled pull. Pull the length of rope, and drag back to starting point. Finally, finish the course at the spear throw. Strictly enforced 20 burpee penalty for missed spear. Circle of Mary until all PAX have complete the course.

Pain Station #3 @ Blakeney AO: Strawberry and Paper Jam on Q

Met the group at a parking lot right before Blakeney fountains with an additional 5 pax in tow including a FNG. We did a quick round of Rock Webb up to 6 counts. Was notified by many that the exercise had already been done. Questioned by same pax if we coordinated with other  Q’s as to not repeat exercises (we obviously did not…OR did we on purpose). Cobains. After feeling a little sorrow we cut the Rock Webb off and moseyed to Blakeney fountain for a PJ led Blakovery dynamic stretching session.

Pain Station #4 @ Stonecrest AO: Commish on Q

It would not be prudent if we did not run up and down our signature piece of landscape at The Maul – so of course, we started with a nice mosey down The Murderhorn only knowing that eventually the crew would have to go back up. That alone is mentally painful after you just finished running up to 10 miles. Understanding the pain these fine young men were enduring, they were rewarded at the bottom with a fully stocked fuel station and some patriotic music to keep their spirits up. The PAX did not eat or drink much so I figured they were ready to get rolling to where they could grab some cold ones and killer apps at The Hickory Tavern.

Not so fast though.. This is F3 and Balrog II so we have certain standards to live up to. In turn, we blasted out a lightening round of Mary.  The PAX counted out along with the cadence energized and inspired.  After a quick mosey down the grassy knoll to the rock pile, we banged out a lightening round of curls, military arm presses and tri-ceps with very manly sized rocks I might add.  It was time.  These guys were pumped – and off they went disappearing into the midst as they climbed back up the Murderhorn.

Very encouraging and impressive showing by all!!  Great work men!!

Pain Station #5 @ Devil’s Turn AO: Tuck on Q

After a long slog up Rea Rd from Stonecrest we circled up at the corner of Rea and Bevington.   The PAX were anxious to knock out the remaining few miles to get to the beer and nachos that awaited us at Hickory Tavern.  Not so fast.  Just enough time for a little more pain.

Low Slow Squats IC.  Each PAX calls out 1 rep around the circle until all have gone (there were 22 of us at that point).  Same deal with Tempo Merkins, then Jump Squats.  And off we went onto the Greenway for the remaining 3 miles of Balrog II.

Bal-blog:

This was a great event, made possible by all of the volunteers and brave souls that showed up.  We lost a handful of potential PAX due to the CLT Marathon.  Next year we’ll make sure there is no scheduling conflict.  YHC encourages all who have never done a #CSAUP to stop thinking and put yourself out there.  They give you access levels of 2nd and 3rd F that are not possible under normal circumstances, and help expand what you thought was possible for yourself physically.  There WILL be a Balrog III next year so keep your eyes peeled.  There are many people to recognize so here goes:

T-claps:

  • Paper Jam, Strawberry, Commish, Goonie and Kid Rock for Q-ing.  Extra credit to Commish for providing a cornucopia of snacks/refreshments.  That’s right, a CORNUCOPIA! #cornucopia
  • Mario, Goonie, Wingman, Dasher, Cheddar, Das boot, McGee, Fredo (respect), Velveeta, Transporter, Lumberjack and YHC for being the few and the proud to complete the entire 16-mile Balrog II course.  Mario hit 17 by repeatedly looping back to check on the six.
  • Wingman, Mario, Kid Rock, Cheddar, Commish, Goonie, Strawberry, Paper Jam, Fire Hazard & YHC for being lucky strong enough to participate in Balrogs I AND II and live to tell about it.  Who’s going for the trifecta?
  • Squid for once again refusing to relinquish a shovel flag after he joined at Elon Park ES.
  • Fire Hazard, Haggis and Cul de Sac for squeezing in part of the event before other commitments
  • FNG Sick Puppy for making Balrog II his very first F3 activity.  That takes guts.  Consider the fact that he’s not even in high school yet and that makes him a certified bad ass.  He showed great grit and determination in shaking off cramps the last couple of miles.
  • Cobbler for posting despite not doing this kind of mileage recently.  Keep up the good work!
  • Transporter for introducing us to “Ass Caps”
  • Wingman and Kid Rock for helping w/ promotion
  • Strawberry for finding the da Vinci shovel flag.  Strawberry, please be gentle with her.  Remember: 1) no bright light 2) do not get it wet and 3) never feed it after midnight, no matter how much it begs.
  • Kid rock for Q-ing an awesome Spartan style pain station despite #cankle
  • Madame Tussauds, Thin Mint, Mario, JRR Tolkien and Fire Hazard for providing equipment
  • Mario and Fire Hazard for helping Kid Rock set up / break down equipment
  • Squid for taking us out
  • The nice lady we basically car jacked at the end to take our group photo
  • Kid Rock and Hickory Tavern Ballantyne for providing the post-event food.  Under normal circumstances it would have been delicious.  After 16 miles and every Jack Webb ever it was… orgasmic?  Yes, orgasmic.  #orgasmic
  • Everyone for showing up despite freezing temps and logic
  • All of the many anonymous vehicles that supported us along the way by honking as they drove by.  Very cool.
  • The PAX that donated to the Patriot Military Family Foundation
  • Mad Dog and Squid for their service to our country

Alternative BackBlast Titles:

  • “Introducing: the Tricep Curl” (because Goonie knows what he did)
  • “Fire Hazard Leaves Early; Hates Veterans” (because actions speak louder than words)
  • “All Jack Webb, All the Time” (because Jack Webb is what we do now at every workout, w/ rocks)
  • “Escobar: Portrait of a Runner” (because Escobar is a runner)
  • “Balcovery” (because you CAN recover during a #CSAUP… w/ Paper Jam on Q)
  • “Keys to Victory” (because finding YHC’s car keys is a team effort.  2 years in a row.)
  • “CSAUP: Complete Suffering And Ultimate Punishment (because ‘punishment’ is the only logical reason you would bring a middle schooler FNG to an event such as this.  whatever Sick Puppy did, it must have been REALLY bad.)
  • “Nacho Average #CSAUP” (because nachos)

Kid Rock Moleskin:

YHC has had quite the week leading up to this event. Sprained ankle and a busted axle on the beast caused me to be extremely behind in planning and preparation. Borrowed vehicles, borrowed time, borrowed equipment, and a borrowed garage… courtesy of Mario, Fire Hazard, Tolkien, Thin Mint, and MT- this whole thing was made possible. We did the best we could with the time we had to work with, to put together a Spartan worthy course… or at least I dreamed it was…..  YHC never actually got to run it.
The PAX seemed to enjoy a break from running around the city to tackle a few fun yet challenging obstacles. Several OCR veterans breezed through everything without any issues, while others seemed about as out of place as YHC at a millennial dance party. We all witnessed some new spear throw techniques…… sure to improve your overall burpee count at any race.
Looking forward to a bigger and better Balrog III next year! HC already!
