Much-needed post for me. Good crew. Met Honey Do for the first time, he said he’s getting back at it in the gloom as well. 2.5 miles as per Marge who was out front on the longer runs. good mix of rocks, runnin’ and core.
Without question, the most noteworthy occurrence was towards the end of the workout. We hit the hotbox; but only after our 3rd cycle of bench work and run up/down the sidewalk – we realized a homeless person was sleeping on one of the benches in the hotbox, wrapped up fully in the grill cover. He (or she?) sort of rolled over and made a little noise. We moseyed on.
Sorry for the long slackblast, but it made me think how many things, moreover people, do we overlook in our lives? Could be people we pass by, work with, live next door to? What are their needs? Perhaps God wants you to meet some of those needs. Could be just a bit of companionship? Most people don’t even get a kind word in the course of a day.
No idea who the person is, how he came to be there, where he’s from, etc.? After the fact, different pax pointed out some oddities – grill grate pulled off and looked like someone started/tried to start a fire in the grill; empty Doritos bag next to trash can with lid on the ground. I even threw the bag away and replaced the lid, not even 3 feet from his head; and I didn’t notice him. He was still there when I went by at 8:30a on the way to my first meeting. I left a jacket, hat, and a bag of almonds. Also covered him with one of the several extra blankets we had at home. He didn’t move. I don’t write this to make us all feel bad or like we don’t “do” enough. I write this to suggest that we look for the people in our lives who need us to be the hands & feet of mercy and grace and love. Let’s do that, Aye?! And before anyone gets the notion I’m some HIM or patting myself on the back….the simple act of mercy was 100% my M’s idea when I told her this morning. Acts of mercy, grace and love are habits…just like working out. If you don’t exercise those muscles – they stop working. Grateful for this fellowship we call F3.
