The Opposite of Earmuffs

Date: 2025-05-31 AO: olympus Q: Krzyzewski PAX: high_tide, flipper, Mountain Momma, taggart, Emoji, ickey_shuffle, Toto, hoover FNGs: None COUNT: 9 Cool temps, a mild breeze, and warm sunshine greeted the pax this morning in near idyllic conditions. In theory, this delightful backdrop should have set us up for an efficient and smooth beat down. The one factor YHC didn’t count on was the impromptu Cool Hand Luke dynamic that unfolded set after set. Despite best efforts, including Ickey’s masterful offering of listening ears to Flipper, ladders got confused with pyramids and set counts got mixed up with rep counts. Nevertheless, we all managed to get through it with a decent pump to show for it. The only casualty YHC was aware of, besides momentary sanity, was Emoji’s sports drink courtesy of Mountain Momma’s turning radius post-beatdown. All-in-all great to see the usual suspects today and always a pleasure to have Hoover post to the dark side. As always, YHC is honored that you trust him enough to lead these things and have people actually show up for the nonsense. Let’s get into the recap… WARMUP: Swings (10x), prying squats, hi-pulls (5x e/s), synovial circles, one-handed swings (5x e/s), slingshots (7x e/w) THE THANG: 1) Brutes & Ladders – A: Clean – L (3x); clean – R (3x); clean – L (2x); clean – R (2x); clean – L (1x); clean – R (1x) – B: Replace “clean” above with “clean & press” – C: Replace “clean & press” above with “clean, squat, & press” – D: Repeato B above – E: Repeato A above 2) Balance Complex (3 sets) – 1-handed swings (15x); lawnmower rows (15x); staggered merkins (15x) (repeat with other arm) = 1 set – Subtract 5x of each element each set 3) EMOM-o-RAMA (10 min.) – A: Swing squats (10x) – B1: SLDL (5x e/s) – B2: Lawnmower rows (5x e/s) – B3: Snatches (5x e/s) – B4: Bent-over row (5x e/s) – B5: Sumo squats (10x) 4) Ministry of Silly Walks (4 sets) – Farmer’s carries (90 sec.) – Subtract 20 sec. each set 5) Hammer Grip KB Curls (12x) (3 sets) MARY: Mary was kind of a winding smorgasboard of things: – KB pass-throughs (aka “castle-ing”) 5x e/w – Demon crushers (10x) – Anchored leg raises (10x) ANNOUNCEMENTS: – :drop_of_blood:Blood drive on 6/20 (see Slack) – :camping: F3 Dad Camp @ Lake Wylie from 8/15-8/17 (see Mountain Momma’s post on Slack) – :house_with_garden: Flatiron is selling his house (see Slack) – :weary: “The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation” – Henry David Thoreau in Walden; Of course circumstances are often out of our control, but your mental state, your ability to show up, and your ability to make choices are always at your disposal. YHC’s theme for June is ‘take action’. Be the man in the arena or whatever you want to call it; stop delaying and make forward progress…as that Nike ad says, “Yesterday, you said tomorrow.” Let’s do this. THE BRAVE – Ultimate Frisbee Edition

Date: 2025-05-30 AO: the-brave Q: midriff PAX: frasier, Hippie, Taco_Stand, fire_hazard, Franky, tuck, soft_pretzel, Brexit FNGs: None COUNT: 9 9 HIMs laced up for a high-energy soggy showdown.
We took off from the AO and made our way to the YMCA lower soccer field. After setting up cones for Ultimate, the teams were locked in: – Team Shirts: frasier, Hippie, Taco_Stand, fire_hazard, Franky – Team Skins: tuck, Midriff, soft_pretzel, Brexit (To balance our odd numbers, one team always rotated to offense in the first half and defense in the second half) The Game: Ultimate Frisbee took center stage with a twist: after every scored point, all PAX performed exercises on the field. The rotation included: – Plank holds – Merkins – Big Boy Sit-Ups The wet grass added an extra challenge, as Frankynearly tore his hamstring on a slide. Half-Time Break: At the whistle, we ran a lap around the parking lot and hit the pavilion for: – Dips – Step-Ups After catching our breath, it was back to the game! Second Half Highlights: – Taco_Stand earned style points (and a bloody hand) after a full-layout on the gravel pathway. The grit was undeniable. – The second half saw both teams pushing the pace, drenched and determined, as the soaked field turned the game into an all-terrain challenge. Final Stretch: With 4 miles clocked, the last mile back to the AO was a spicy one, finishing slightly past 0630. Moleskine: The game was competitive, the camaraderie was unmatched, and the grass ensured everyone took home a little piece of the field. Shoutout to every HIM for showing up and leaving it all out there. Gotta shake things up and have fun every now and then.

Warping Wind

Date: 2025-05-30 AO: ufo-ultimatefriz Q: MARTA PAX: Steve Hall, Wu Tang is for the children, David Baker, Yeti, Paris, Chandelier, Smokey, Broken Arrow, MARTA, Spikeball, pink eye, bullystick, biden FNGs: None COUNT: 13 Rough numbers this am, but the Pax coalesced late for a 6:24 start time. It’s not all their fault, as YHC was enthralled to learn from Chandelier that he’s found the fountain of youth (Collagen Supplements). From the get go, someone suggested a trade as Pink seemed to lack enough handlers to manage the wind. Rudderless without a commissioner, the request was denied and we defaulted to the 4 pt lead rule. Yellow was savvy and kept the game close early to avoid early trades.
I’d like to call it close, but it was never close. It was clear Pink needed someone who could throw consistently deep to a streaking Paris. Steve Hall didn’t have the juice left after a night of tennis and didn’t attempt many throws. Pink was forced to work it slowly up the field to many turnovers. With the lack of service, Paris’s hammy mysteriously tightened up and he watched for a few pts before disinterest set in and he was gone.
After the devasting loss of paris (and sub), Wu Tang is for the children channeled his inner go go gadget arms to make several outstretched catch for scores. Fresh kept the young’ins in check but even Bullystick couldn’t keep up with Yeti’s David Baker’s relentless running. The downwind points were apparent and the disc would float majestically allowing them to run down scores at will.
Pink was decimated by yellow. We quickly retreated to launch to mumble chatter. Pinkeye/Flywithme/Marta win the fields by staying late and discussing key topics such as mothers morning out, how soon you are allowed to go on a 5 day golf trip after your 4th child, and boat clubs.
See y’all next week
