8 men came out on hopefully one of the last sub-40 mornings of the year.
The Thang – warmup and quick merkin practice at the daycare where they had a dumpster out front, likely to handle the daily diaper overload… – Woodfox run with tarantulas and dry docks – Wall/pole work – Plyometric sequence x3 – Merkin parking space crawl :man-shrugging: – Solid 9 minutes of group ab work
Group stayed close, low chatter except for Limeys full review of the Polish food scene in Chicago. OT’s car is cleaner than…well…something that’s very clean. Went to Crunch afterwards and saw several of our guys enjoying the heated space…
YHC took us out.
Thanks Thunder Road and Mr Magoo for the opportunity!

The One Where we Ran by L&B Counseling

Date: 2025-02-22 AO: chicken-run Q: tuck PAX: bratwurst, drive_by, HazMat, midriff, das_boot, soft_pretzel FNGs: None COUNT: 7 The flock ran a new route, exploring some neighborhoods North of 485. On the way we passed Frasier’s L&B Counseling building and paid our respects by talking about our feelings. Each of us felt that it was cold as balls (technical term). Bratwurst did an amazing Das Boot impression and came out of nowhere to find us about a mile into the run, prompting us to call him Das Brat for the remainder of the morning (after workshopping a few lesser names such as Brat Boot and Wuersey Whitley. The real Das Boot did the most Das Boot thing imaginable and showed up near the end of the run to our amusement. Midriff managed to complete the full 10 miles despite 1) running a marathon 7 days ago and 2) experiencing Biblical levels of chafing. Biblical because they wore loin cloths back then, and it was hot as balls (technical term) in the desert so you do the math. Drive By once again showed off his new speed and finished at the front with Bratwust. The rest of us eventually finished and some rewarded themselves with chicken in the presence of Disney princesses that Midriff and I conjured (long story). Oh and Huck was the goodest of boys. The end.

Finishing with 3.9 miles and four corner ab circuit!

Outta Time Ruck

Date: 2025-02-21 AO: donut-ruck Q: geraldo PAX: Broken Arrow, hoover, Roulette, wildturkey, Focker, Horsehead, snowflake, grasshopper, taggart, Starch, Cheese Curd, boerewors FNGs: None COUNT: 13 WARMUP: None THE THANG: It started with a YHC going down the GORUCK gear rabbit hole and found a cool Back To The Future themed patch. The patch was for sale but had to be earned with a time hack, 12 miles in 3:30 hrs. Challenge accepted. The usual suspects & some “ruck curious” pax stepped up to the challenge. Broken Arrow came up with routes, 2 loops of each would get us the desired mileage and allow for Pax to join us along the way for fewer miles if they chose to do so. 9 Pax completed the challenge well ahead of the time hack.
– Broken Arrow absolutely crushed it, 13.1 miles in 2:38 – Focker decided to hang with Broken Arrow for a few laps and killed it – Cheese Curd not satisfied with 12 miles got his self-imposed monthly half-marathon. – grasshopper had an impressive showing with joining Cheese Curd for his longest ruck to date. – Starch kept us all safe with his highly reflective safety ruck and also completed 13 miles. – wildturkey was loving it – Roulette pushed through a blister and keeps getting stronger – hoover ensured he hydrated during the 12 miles by having is “spinach” – taggart joined us for a bit and enjoyed some recovery beers while we finished the remaining laps – snowflake started the evening off with a lap or two – boerewors knocked out a few laps with us in jeans and educating us on South African meats – Horsehead completed his longest ruck and keep the Pax fueled with Twizzlers – The finishers capped off the night with beers, burgers and bourbon at The Lodge – Thanks to all who came out tonight and stay tuned for a Brew Ruck in the near future MARY: None ANNOUNCEMENTS: None

Now You’re Speaking My Love Language

Date: 2025-02-21 AO: _sob Q: midriff PAX: fire_hazard, tuck, Hippie, wingman, soft_pretzel, Franky, Rousey, bratwurst FNGs: None COUNT: 9 This morning, 9 HIM (Tuck, Bratwurst, Franky, Soft Pretzel, Fire Hazard, Wingman, Hippie, Rousey, and YHC) gathered in the Ballantyne backyard to take on The Brave. Starting from the future Wegmans site off Community House Road, we embarked on an unconventional and awesome workout.
The Game Plan: – Each throw determined our next location, and we rotated through merkins, squats/jump squats, LBCs/flutter kicks, and burpees on the golf course holes. – On road holes, we skipped exercises but cranked the intensity with sprints at 50%, 75%, and 100% effort.
Highlights from the gloom: – Construction Trespassing: We entered the “golf course” through the construction site. tuck, in true form, declared that I was speaking his love language. – Ultimate Frisbee Cameos: bratwurst showed off his ultimate frisbee skills with some incredible throws. One memorable toss veered far right into the woods, but we tracked it down like pros. – Frozen Glow: The frisbee’s colored light refused to cooperate with the sub-freezing temps, leaving us to guess where it landed in the dark on many throws. – MVP Performance: Rousey took home “Most Improved Player,” tossing increasingly righteous slices as the workout progressed. Great to have him back at The Brave after a hiatus! – Oven Mitt MVP: Hippie brought some serious style with oven mitt gloves—yet still managed impressive frisbee throws. – Props to fire_hazard: Thanks for sourcing the frisbee (even if it wasn’t fully lit) and for letting me Q such a stellar crew.
Grateful for the camaraderie and energy this morning. Let’s keep SOB’s premiere Friday workout spinning next week!
– Midriff

THE GREEN MILE (St Patty’s Saturday)

Attention runners, ruckers and even bikers …

Are you looking for an opportunity to put some easy miles in with your brothers? Maybe you need a training run for an upcoming race? Perhaps you just need a long-distance Saturday run/ruck or ride?

FREE- no cost…. No shirts… Just a stupid time

Several PAX are interested in running the Little Sugar Creek Greenway on St. Patty’s Saturday and want you to join us for The Green Mile.

This is an out and back sticking to mainly Sugar Creek Greenway paths. You can go as far out as you want. 5k to 50k….the initial group is committing to a 25k out to Johnston YMCA in NODA and back-  3025 N Davidson St in Charlotte.

There are several PAX dropping clown cars at the YMCA to carpool back any runners only wanting the 25k

SOB’s chicken run and Waxhaw’s Paper Trail will converge together on Sat March 15th at the Sugar Creek Greenway. Launch will be from Best Western hotel in Pineville. (This is an alternate start from last year to avoid the safety issue of running in the road around the mall.)

9825 Leitner Dr, Pineville NC 28134. Park along the main road, or inside the hotel lot.

Official launch time at 6am. Wear your favorite green St.Pattys attire. Bring hydration pack and all needed nutrition. Water, bananas, misc snacks will be provided at the launch location and at the 25k mark, but no water stations along the way. Headlamps/reflective gear suggested.

The route has been pre-planned and is not a straight shot. There are a few closed paths and several turns where PAX can get turned around. I will attempt to be ahead of the group and add chalk marks at turns, however, please stick with at least one running partner. The best directions are to download the route for guidance. Call me anytime along the route if needed – (810)459-9450

Grab a running partner, and let’s do a really stupid and utterly pointless run together.
