Charlotte Catholic Death Run – Part Deux

13 Pax gathered with the hopes of staying on campus and doing a light workout before getting on with their day. They were all mistaken and I am pretty sure Joker got wind of the plan last night because he left shortly after the pre-run.

Very short disclaimer with this veteran crowd

Circle up in place

  • 15 SSH
  • 15 Merkins
  • 15 Plank Jacks
  • 15 Mountain Climbers

13 Pax each broke up into teams of 4 (I was odd man out), with each grabbing some of Alf’s holiday gear (concrete blocks, 45 lbs plates and sandbags). Each team instructed to run to basketball court at old Day 0.

Day 0 Basketball Court: 4 corners at the track, each Pax run to the corners and do curls (concrete blocks), overhead press (45 lbs plates), squats (sandbags) and Merkins (no gear Pax). Once the lap was completed, reverse the track and do additional lap.

Partner up with 12 hand-slap merkins back at b-ball court. It is noted that Voodoo left at this point putting the Pax in even groups.

Additional lap with entire Pax (minus Voodoo) no gear.

Re-group into teams of 4 (with dreaded gear) and head back to launch via Bevington Place, Elm and 51.

Completed with 1 minute of extra credit.

The trail of tears that was performed today was inspired by an Alf workout from a few years back. Although this workout didn’t end with a Charlotte Catholic parent yelling at the Pax. I appreciate the gear that he brought to help facilitate the misery.

A few observations from today’s Pax: Hopefully Hoover never intends to practice Hindu; he would make a good pack mule in his next life. Jet Fuel kept mumbling under his breath how expensive Christmas was going to be because of Miss Huntersville exquisite tastes. Looks like this will cost him another overseas trip to Bahrain to pay for his holiday expenses. Stone Cold needs a step ladder to get into his truck. I am sure he is on his way to Monster Jam 19 today to crush some cars. Alf: thanks for the gear, Jet-Fuel was very intrigued by your sleep over story. Hooper: did your athletic department donation to OSU go toward Chase Young steroids? That dude is a beast. Ductwork: you were a cyborg, I don’t think I ever saw you without a plate or block. Levi: good effort buddy, I know you are sore. IHop: good work today! Voodoo: It took us an extra 10 minutes to get back to launch because of you pulling the rip cord 30 mins early. We all appreciate it! O Tannenbaum: no you can’t sniff my ankle bra. Boerewors: Kid n Play called an need to borrow your hat for their 90’s hip hop tour reunion. Slingshot: didn’t think you were going to make it but you pulled through

Thanks for the opportunity to lead.

YE OLDE MOLESKINE

When I showed up in the parking lot this morning before I could say good morning to Bulldog he asked where Spackler was because he was supposed to Q. I replied that I had Q and Spackler was probably in a gutter after his usual Thursday night bender. Bulldog told me the workout better be hard because he took the time to wake and up and get there. No pressure! I thought about just having the PAX do 10 counts for 45 minutes to annoy Bulldog but I decided instead to try and make the workout relatively hard.

There were a lot of complaints during the Reid Hall 11s. To be quite honest I don’t think I got past 9s (modify when necessary) but I know Orange Whip, Turkey Leg, Harley, Floor Slapper, Rhapsody and Bulldog finished or came really close. Really good effort from that group!

The PAX was confused by the church hand slap partner exercises but I don’t really care, it was a total time kill and I would do it over again. Rhapsody had to educate me on proper hand slap protocol. I have already reached out to Tiger Rag about having him post a YouTube video on the F3 channel for the PAX’s edification.

The tire exercises were fun but really not that challenging, It did look like Bulldog enjoyed watching a bunch of sweaty old men chase tires.

I appreciate Fault Line and Orange Whip allowing me to lead this fantastic group of men!

Ran the PAX down Rea toward Cannons, first one there touches the Cannons and returns to sweep the Six and head back to launch. Return to launch with entire PAX for one round of celebrity Mary (The Flutter) starring Hops.

Workout is complete!

Moleskin:

Here are a few observations from the workout. I felt like I was at a F3 Shareholders meeting this morning when Hops and Gummy rolled up. I hope the audit they send back to Mermaid at headquarters has glowing reviews. Spackler showed up very spry this morning, either the Dryuary is started to pay dividends or it is the fact that his house has no heat and the temps stayed above freezing last night. He obviously got in a full 8 hours of shut eye. It was good to see Gloss decked out in his moisture wicking, Goodwill performance gear. I have heard multiple Wall Street analysts say this line of athletic gear is going to eclipse LuLu and Athletica in the coming fiscal year. The one caveat on the segment is they are targeting 35 something’s that are big-boned and mildly athletic, who like shirts that inch up over the mid rift. Gloss is a perfect customer for this apparel. Jet Fuel was still a little hung over from the National Championship game. I did see that Santa brought him some sleeves for his workout shirts. Special thanks to Hairball for grabbing the cannon shaft and putting the PAX out of it’s misery on the cannon run. I am not going to mention the after workout conversation that Gummy had about Hairball’s reach and his form during this drill.  Puddin’s bowels of doom didn’t explode this morning, the entire PAX was much appreciative. Champagne was a solid Partner for the workout, he had multiple opportunities to call me out for being the Six for the entire workout and he remained mum. I appreciate it brother!

There is always a solid group of guys that show up to Hydra. Thanks to Gloss for the take-out!

Broken Wind Smells Like Navy Sailors

18 PAX showed up Thursday morning with moist, late fall weather to run some pavement. Here’s what happened.

Began disclaimer and quick mosey to front of school. Had the PAX circle up for some warm up exercises. Exercises included: Side Straddle Hop x 15, Mountain Climbers x 15, Hand Release Merkins x5 OYO.

Had PAX run down Rea toward Harris Teeter. Plank up at the entrance to Teeter for some planking work with some Hand Release Merkins. Shuffled the group over to the Christmas Tree fountain for some partner work. Round 1 – Partner 1 performed Derkins while Partner 2 ran the dumpster mile. Round 2- Partner 1 performed dips while Partner 2 ran the dumpster mile. Final Round – Partner 1 performed step ups while Partner 2 ran the dumpster mile.

Ran the PAX down to the back entrance of the shopping center for Burpees. Completed 5 rounds of descending count Burpees, started at x5. Finished this awful set of exercises with a 10 count from Buttermaker.

Ran down Colony toward SouthPark, made a right at Abbotswood Drive and huddled the PAX for some very loud Mary. Round 1 – LBCs, Round 2 – Flutters, Round 3 – Heels to Heaven. Ran up Abbotswood toward stop sign at Windyrush. Had PAX stop at intersection for multiple planking exercises with some Hand Release Merkins. Headed down Windyrush toward Foxworth drive for some 7’s. Squats at the bottom of the hill and Merkins at the top. Gathered the PAX at the base of Foxworth for additional planking exercises with some Hand Release Merkins.

Had PAX run back up Foxworth toward the park and gather at athletic field. Run toward middle of field and perform x10 merkins back to starting position on field. Run back to launch to finish the workout.

Moleskin:

Here are a few observations from the workout. As usual Spackler showed up looking like he drank his way out of a whiskey barrel. I always expect to see him pulled over and performing a field sobriety on my way to workouts in the morning. I want to apologize to Fireman Ed for lying to him yesterday about my workout plans. Sorry! We ran 3 miles and I was not able to secure a FIA convergence. As usual Puddin’ smelled like a barnyard. Spackler made a comment about the stench halfway down Abbotswood Drive that is not repeatable. Read the name of this post for a small hint. Buttermaker looked dapper as usual. Between his new LuLu gear and his Brazilian shaving techniques he is my vote for the next most interesting man in the world. Stay thirsty my friends! Cheese Kurd was his usual insult throwing self. He always does a nice job keeping the workout crew lose with his irreverent humor. Jet Fuel seemed to have lost his sleeves during one of the partner exercises or he actually owns a tank top.

There is always a solid group of guys that show up to Hydra. Special thanks to Good Hands and Puddin’ Pop for giving me the keys to one of Area 51’s gems!

Saving Private Six

20 PAX showed up Monday morning with crisp fall weather to run and sweat. Here’s what happened.

Began disclaimer and quick mosey to front of school. Had the PAX circle up for some warm up exercises. Exercises included: Side Straddle Hop x 15, Mountain Climbers x 15,Burpees x5 OYO, Merkins x 10 OYO and Imperial Walkers x 15. Quick huddle with PAX to describe run through Raintree to Arboretum. Quick disclaimer to make sure PAX stayed quiet for this early morning jog through the residential streets.

Had PAX run down Woodfox Drive and stop at Burning Tree for Merkins until Six arrived. Head up toward Rounding Run and stop at intersection to perform Squats until Six arrived. Make a Right on Rounding Run and run toward Rising Meadow, LBCs until Six arrived. Run toward Raintree Lane and stop at intersection of Rising Meadow and Raintree Lane, Merkins until Six arrived. Make a left on Raintreee Lane and stop at Smokerise Hill Drive for Squats until Six arrived. Head up to Will Point and complete Merkins until Six arrived. Head up to Hwy 51 and perform Merkins until Six arrived.

At this point in the workout the Six never showed. Gooney (the scraper) tasked himself with a rescue mission to wrangle a few stragglers in the back of the PAX. He took this portion of the group back down 51 to the Launch while the remainder of the PAX went to the Arboretum parking lot to perform some Triple Nickel. Start the exercise at the hill next to the ABC store. Top of hill performed Jumps Squats, LBCs at bottom of hill. Finish with various plank exercises capped with hand release Merkins.

Head back to Launch down Hwy 51. Stop at Raintree Lane to Perform Merkins while waiting on Six. Head down Serendipity, stop and perform Merkins until rest of PAX arrived. At this point we caught back up with Gooney’s team and reunited the PAX. Head back to Strawberry Land and perform several cadence drills which included: LBCs. Merkins and Squats. Sent the PAX back to Launch to partner up for Parking Lot Reps.

Partner 1: Run lap around post / Partner 2: Squats

Round 2: Run lap around post / Partner 2: LBCs

Round 3: Run lap around post / Partner 2: Wide Arm Merkins

Round 4: Various planking exercises capped with Hand Release Merkins

Extra Innings:

Lined up PAX at first basketball and OYG to far goal. Repeato back to first goal.

Finished!

Moleskin:

I had sent a quick text to Semi-Gloss last night to describe my idea for a Basecamp running workout that culminated at Arboretum. I guess the word got out faster than a Julian Assange email leak. Simba ran up to me shortly after the Disclaimer and was questioning my decision making skills.

A few observations from the workout:

Sony and Semi-Gloss were definitely conjoined twins. You can still see the scars on both of their foreheads from the separation procedure. A special thanks to Gooney for shepherding some of the lost PAX back to launch. I was not surprised that Spackler didn’t make the parking lot launch this morning but I was shocked we didn’t see him at the ABC store during our Triple Nickel. Simba owes an apology to the PAX for his initial questioning of the group’s strength and stamina. A strong group of guys showed up this morning and got a great workout!

Thanks to Simba for taking us out and keep him and his peers in our prayers as they leave for the Middle East today.

A Dill Chaser

11 Pax showed up Wednesday morning with great weather to sweat. Here’s what happened.

Began with quick lap around island to let Pig Skin and Tesla catch up. Had the PAX circle up for some warm up exercises. Exercises included: Side Straddle Hop x 15, Mountain Climbers x 15, Merkins x 15 and 5 Burpees OYO.

Run back around backside of church up to homes stands of PDS. The warmup lap was 1.16 miles.

Round 1: Partner 1 does laps up and down stadium Partner 2 completes Derkins, Round 2: Partner 1 does laps up and down stadium Partner 2 completes Dips, Round 3: Partner 1 does laps up and down stadium Partner 2 completes LBCs, Round 4: Partner 1 does laps up and down stadium Partner 2 “partner choice”. Had PAX plank for multiple plank exercises that ended with x5 hand release Merkins

Mosey down to track for some field work. Start at corner of goal line, run down to length of field and perform 5 Jump Squats, run width of field to corner and perform 10 Merkins, Run length of field and perform 15 LBCs, head back to starting corner. Repeato.

Move from field to track and set up for Indian Run. Run lap with PAX and head back to launch point.

Moleskin:

We were able to get close to three miles in today with a bunch of Merkins and other various exercises called to force pain on the PAX. Spackler crushed the initial lap, I had to yell multiple times for him to stop and start Merkins. John Deere was clearly upset with the lack of Bear Crawls and Crab Walks that were not called during the Q. I hope to see FNG “Pickleback” again at The Charge, he definitely was gassed after this whole body beat down.

The best AO in South Charlotte delivered again! We were able to utilized it’s pavement, track, turf and stadium to really get a fully body workout. Special thanks to Barracus for giving me the keys to the castle and Tesla for taking us out.
