Going down is a lot easier than going up.

YHC started cooking up this beatdown during last week’s #tweetandmeat session. After losing our dear friend Foxhole(RIP) a few months ago, I was downright giddy to see 11 pax swinging iron on a Monday in SOBland. Kettlebells in the Stonecrest parking lot is great but it avoided the crown jewel of the AO, the Murderhorn. I eagerly offered to Q and spent all week looking forward to making the first weighted trip to the Murderhorn. Fast forward to 5:12 AM this morning, I am the only one sitting in the parking lot and afraid I will be carrying a sandbag up the Murderhorn by myself. A minute later Loogie and Purell joined me in the parking lot…better..but still not ideal. Thankfully several pax rolled in late and we had 8(even number!) who were given instruction to partner up, with one kettlebell, and one sandbag.

COP: Quick warm up, SSH, IW, LSS

Mosey to the top of the Murderhorn. Learn instruction for the main event. Partner one takes sandbag for a trip up and down the horn, stopping at each light and stopsign for 5 clean and front squats with the bag. Partner 2 stays at the top with the KB for an AMRAP of curls, presses, tricep extensions.

After each partner has a turn with the sandbag, weights are redistributed. Heavy sandbag to the group that finished first(70 lbs), 2nd heaviest bag to 2nd place finishers(60 lbs) and so on.

Next round: 10 sandbag squats at each light and stop sign. KB work at the top, squats, lunges, RDLs.

Redistribute weight, 3rd round. 5 presses for sandbaggers on the horn. LBCs, Flutters, and man maker merkins for KB work at the top.

Mosey back to launch. Burn out the rest of the time with 11s of KB swings and merkins. 10 swings 1 merkin, 9 swings 2 merkins, 8 swings 3 merkins……1 swing 10 merkins.

COT

Moleskine: YHC was thankful that it stopped raining by 0515 and that 7 others joined me in the gloom. #tweetandmeet is a real thing now.

Not much to say about the workout other than “Going down is a lot easier than going up”.

During the KB AMRAP there was a lot of chatter about daily offerings to the porcelain god and how it can make or break your posting for the day.

Old man Frehley’s is your Q for next week. Come see if all of his body parts are still working.

Announcements: Stay safe in the gloom. All pax should work on becoming more visible, especially at AOs that cover a lot of distance and go off campus. Trade in your black shirts for bright ones, wear reflective belts, light up straps, and headlamps.

FNG/Kotters day Convergence 3/30 at Da Vinci. Bring out any and all men that need F3.

A Few Ladders at the Insane Asylum

Transporter pinged YHC yesterday asking if I could Q #F3Asylum today. Absolutely. Expecting a hard-working, great group of guys meant it was time to plan a good beating (mostly for myself after a few days off).

Quick Disclaimer…CPR certified, Phones available, etc.

Fast warm-up Mosey around the outskirts of the shopping center consisting of an exercise of (20) reps periodically: SSH, IW, Mountain Climbers, Incline Plank Jacks, Low Slow Squat…

Intermission for some Merkin Ladders, just as Frack found us in front of Target. No coincidences in life. He didn’t seem to interested in doing any counting once we got to (5), but we got through it. Still glad you joined us today, Frack. Mosey back to Hickory Tavern for the Main Event.

The THANG:

Start with Wall Ladders OYO. Dips + Derkins. (5) Dips at HT, sprint to Brooklyn Pizza for (5) Derkins, and back to HT. Increase to (10), (15), (20). Nice work by all, especially Radar who was back after an Achilles injury. Great to see you, brother.

Mosey over to the Medical Building, find a Lifting Rock, Circle Up for:

(20) Bicep Curls, (20) Overhead Press, (20) Tricep Extensions…put them all together for (20) “All-in-One’s” of Curl-to-Press-to Tri Extensions. Sprint down the parking lot, back to Rocks then choose a different rock for:

(15) Curls, (15) Overhead Press, (15) Tri Ext…put them all together for (10)
“All-in-One’s” of Curl-to-Press-to Tri Extensions. Sprint down the parking lot, back to Rocks then choose a different rock for:

(10) Curls, (10) Overhead Press, (10) Tri Ext…put them all together for (10)
“All-in-One’s” of Curl-to-Press-to Tri Extensions. Done!

Mosey back to Hickory Tavern for a new offering called the “Burpee/Suicide Ladder”. This came to me yesterday as I was prepping for the Q. Trying to mix it up and get more running in after my favorite exercise. Here is how it went:

In front of HT, do (10) Burpees, spring to Brooklyn Pizza for (9) Burpees then spring back to HT…you get the picture. Ice9 crushed it and finished before everyone (no surprise there). I believe this pushed us all out of our comfort zones, and it sounded better on paper. These will definitely make another appearance in a future Q for YHC. FINISHED!

MOLESKIN:

As always, it is a privilege to lead at F3 and the guys who consistently show up at #Asylum on a weekly basis.

Ice9 sounded like he was going to puke at various times, but he pushes himself and the Pax very hard. He kicked my #ss during the Burpee Suicides today…I will get you next time!

Transporter always pushes YHC out of my comfort zone (in many ways) and I appreciate you asking me to lead today. Time to return the favor and Q at Dromedary soon…no promises someone won’t be wearing a Bathrobe though!

Damascus keeps getting stronger and is dropping some LB’s as well. The changes you’re making are working.

FuseBox made an appearance at Asylum today and it was great to see him working hard to not be the 6! Keep it up!

ShopDawg worked very hard today (sounded like he was puking at one point!) and has gotten noticeably faster. Great job.

Swimmers has quickly adapted to the F3 workout routine and was at the front all morning. Awesome work.

Chastain is a consistent attendee, and I heard a rumor he may have just been named a Site Q. Nice job, Chastain.

Ackbar showed up wanting to share his knowledge of a movie GIF posted yesterday, and he knocked that out before we got started (wise move). He sung for most of the workout, but complained about the mix until “finally, a good song” when Journey came on. Ice9 even commented how much faster Ackbar has gotten. Nice job.

Frack came out of nowhere when we were finishing up the long warm-up. Like I said, no coincidence that the plan for Merkin Ladders at Target was the time he joined us. Always good to work out with you, brother.

Radar! Nobody brings light like you, brother. So glad you are back after your injury, and even more so that you’ve landed a job with 3M. God is Good and I know He has great plans for you and your family. Keep showing up!

6 of us also attended Q Source at Chick-Fil-A, led by Spicoli. A great discussion about Glutony and consuming too much (food, social media, things, workouts, etc). A nice reminder that any good thing can become addicting and an idol if we allow it to. Hold each other accountable to focus on your health (in a healthy way!), your family (don’t be afraid to skip a workout or social event to be with them), financial health (don’t over-extend yourself), and put down the phone once in a while. Good stuff.

Thanks to Shop Dawg for taking us out in prayer. Have a great week, fellas…I’m off to Vegas for a sales meeting all week. Pray for me!!!

I’ve got a fever and the only prescription is more….

In most cases it would be more cowbell but this time it’s sadly happily only that Deadwood has Mad Cow Disease and that Zinfandel is taking the Q!

It feels good to find out that Deadwood is a mere mortal just like the rest of us! You think that guy is never going to run out of fuel during workouts only to find out he doesn’t consume enough vitamin C and unable to find off a small, tiny, little common cold. He has me on speed dial so he requested my presence on lead last night…

I haven’t signed up to Q anywhere for the month of March but happy to fill in where needed. I only ask for a 24 hour notice in the future maybe? Moving along….

DCCS reviewed and disclaimer about circling back for the 6 given.

THE THANG:

MOLESKIN:

20 bros for what would be my 13th Q and it was wide range of folks. Some 2.0s, lots of families faces and 2 FNGs, one of which is from the greatest Crests of the Briars!!

“Do what you hate.” And boy do I hate Mike Tyson’s. So let’s do a bunch of them!

Seeing as it’s a Monday I knew it would be a busy group of varying levels of effort. The goal was to do bursts of exercise with decently long moseys in-between to get the HR up and keep the group together. Those that finished early could knock out additional rounds or Al Gore until their heart was content.

Thank you as always for the opportunity to lead! It’s always my pleasure and a great way to start my day.

Welcome our two new FNGs, AutoCAD and Nails (Crests of the Briars) this morning!

Thank you Mad Dog for taking us out!

13 men gathered for what turned out to be a great morning for a workout. After a quick disclaimer we headed out from our parking lot.

The Thang

We moseyed from our lot to the front of the high school. We circled up for a quick warmup since we had a lot of ground to cover:

* SSH x 15 IC

* IWs x 15 IC

Mosey to the stop light and wait for everyone to cross Cuthbertson and try not to get hit.

* John Wayne Burpee Mile: Waynewood is about 1 mile to the end and there are 19 light poles along the way. 5 burpees at each light pole with 10 at the last one at the end for an even 1 mile and 100 burpees. Circle back for the six and then plank until everyone finishes.

Mosey back up Waynewood, left on Dobson, stop at the entrance to Chisholm with 5 squats at every light pole along the way. Circle back for the six.

* Run down to the bottom of Chisholm, 10 North Carolina Dry Docks and then back up the hill to the top for 10 Monkey Humpers. Rinse and repeat x3.

Mosey up Dobson to the clubhouse.

* 10 Mike Tyson’s and then run up Dobson to the entrance on Cuthbertson for 10 Monkey Humpers. Rinse and repeat x3 but due to time had to do the third set of Monkey Humpers on the way back at the corner or Dobson and Waynewood.

Time was getting close so quick mosey back to the stop light at Waynewood and Cuthbertson. Circle back for the six.

Cross Cuthbertson and very quick mosey back to the start with a lap around the parking lot to round up the six.

Perfect timing as Flash was just coming in.

YHC came on the the F3 scene in October of 2015 at Rebel Yell. A year later and running BRR on an injured calf left me with a torn calf muscle and unable to do anything for a while. That turned into an injury proned 2017 and 2018 filled with painful hips that resulted in two separate hip surgeries (first the left, then the right).

Getting back into F3 has been a Godsend. The FIRST day YHC posted I was welcomed back as if I had never left. When I walked back in the house my wife could tell from the look in my eye that the fog was lifting and said, “he’s back” when I walked in the door and looked at her. Thank you pax.

Today’s goal was to try and get everyone over the five mile mark while completing my least favorite exercises, Burpees and Mike Tyson’s. We got 100 burpees in and 30 Mike Tyson’s along with 60 Monkey Humpers and some other exercises.

Hollywood and Wolverine were killing it as usual and easily got over 6 miles with all their circling back. Wolverine’s little red light on the back of his shirt kept getting smaller and smaller as the hour progressed.

The rest of the PAX stuck together pretty well and got in at least 5.25 miles.

Champion Forest is pretty dead in the morning so a great location except at the end of Chisholm we happened to have the one guy who leaves early in the morning back out of his driveway and then come back a few minutes after he left because he probably forgot something (or maybe he just liked the way Bottle Cap looked in his little yellow vest). Other than that it was a perfect morning and the conditions were great.

Thanks for the brotherhood and the opportunity to lead.

The Calves and Calves Not

YHC rolled up at 5:10, planted the shovel flag and took off on a light pre-run with Brisket, Mary Kay and Billy Goat.  As we returned and waited for 5:30 a few cars rolled in.  Then a few more and a few more.  Once we launched all told 22 men (wow!) were ready to enjoy one of the first rain free mornings in a while and get out in the gloom.  Here is what went down and why I am still walking on my tip toes.

The Thing

Warm Up:

SSH x 15

IW x 15

Low Slow Squats x 12

Peter Parkers x 15

Hold 6 inches

Parker Peters x 15

Mosey behind the shopping center for some speed bump work.  At the same time a tractor trailer had the same idea and decided to do an Austin Power style 15 point turn in the alley.  YHC was trying to figure out how to incorporate the 18 wheeler into the workout and scaling the trailer was mentioned.  Luckily it was backed far enough to continue.  YHC huddled the masses and explained that we were starting with 1 burpee and 3 squats at the first speed bump and increasing by 1 burpee and 3 squats at each speed bump.

Collect the six and head for St Matt’s.  Partner up and grab a lifting rock per team.  Move to the parking lot and line up abreast.  Directions given where P1 would do called lifting rock exercise and P2 run to the 2ND PARKING LIGHT (put in capital letters to be explained later).  At the 2nd parking light P2 does stated exercise and returns to where P1 is lifting the rock.  Flapjack until the team reaches the stated number of total rock lifting reps.

Round 1 = 150 curls and runner does 10 flutters at the light

Round 2 = 150 overhead presses and runner does 10 H2H

Round 3 = 150 triceps and runner does 10 big boy situps

Round 4 = 200 calf raises on the curb and runner does 10 J Lo’s

Between each round the PAX were encouraged to keep moving either through Mary work or planking until all teams were done.  Once the calf raises were complete we put our rocks back and headed back to launch.  At launch we had 2 minutes which was just enough time for Mr. Jack Webb to make a brief appearance.  We got to 6 merkins and 24 overhead presses.

Moleskin

Great work out there by everyone.  I was beyond impressed that during the rock lifting work some teams finished quickly but some teams finished their reps even when other teams were done.  It would have been easy to call it early and fall into the Mary or plank work but they finished the reps and laps.  Well done men in finishing.  Either YHC was confusing on the 2nd parking light directions or some guys must have wanted the extra mileage and Loogie is #actuallyarunner.  And as far as the calve raises…my apologies fellas.  RY was on Thursday and here I am writing this BB on Sunday and I am still walking funny.  Like I said to Happy Meal, that just means that we need to focus on that part more often.  The good thing is that at least during the exercise the prickly bushes helped to divert the attention from the burning in the calves.

It was awesome to have so many guys out at Rebel Yell which is hands down the best Thursday AO (no site Q bias whatsoever).  The crowd was a fun mixture of RY vets as well as some guys new to F3 or new to RY, and even some Area 51 fixtures made the trip.  Hopefully we will see all of you back at RY in the near future.

Frisbee, Fun, Friday

55 degrees and no rain! It’s Friday, we have a Frisbee and pinnies thanks to Stone Cold and Header, which can only mean one thing. Confessions from the Q… I learned this week that pinnies are NOT spelled ‘pennies’. Can’t say that’s a first! Q says disclaimer and we are off with 11 PAX to take a warm up lap around track then COP at 50 yard line. 2 more PAX (won’t mention names) show up to make it 13 PAX (good math)… one at the end of COP and one at beginning of Ultimate game.

COP

Side-straddle Hops x 10 IC

Imperial Walkers x 10 IC

Low Slow Squat x 10 IC

1 and only Thang

Lots of good ole ultimate Frisbee! Q divides the teams and gives quick refresher on the rules. After every score both teams have to do 10 Merkins. Losing walks. One team walked 5 times and the other 2 times. We think Tebow secretively is a professional ultimate player on his free time. Header made an unbelievable diving catch, where he somehow came up with it pinned up against the back of his head. Way to use your head Header. After putting in close to 2.5 miles of running around we mosey back to launch for COT.

The Molskine

All the Pax pushed hard today with zero mumble chatter, I honestly don’t think I heard anyone talk. If you’re talking, you’re not working hard enough or the exercise isn’t challenging enough. I was pretty winded and didnt take a lot of notes but we all now know that Posse is very fast for about 10 seconds. Thanks Zin the gazelle for picking up the six a time or two. We crushed over 3.5 miles very happy to see everyone progressing physically, keep it up!

Thanks Ackbar for taking us out.

Kinesiology

15 men gathered for what turned out to be a great morning for a workout. After a disclaimer that no one, save Mermaid, listened to (and Mermaid only listened so he could critique the content and verbiage), we launched from our parking lot.

The Thang

We moseyed from our lot into deck and up the short ramps to the very top. We circled up for a quick warmup:

  • IWs x 15 IC
  • MCs x 15 IC
  • Merkins x 15 IC
  • LSS x 15 IC

Down the far stairs to the bottom and across Walsh to the rock pile beside whatever that building is. Pick a lifting rock. In the parking lot, round 1 of the workout was explained:

  • 10 curls, 10 tricep presses, 10 shoulder presses; drop the rock
  • Run into the garage through the middle gate, up the short ramps to the right, then down the short ramps to the left, out the side entrance gate to the benches
  • 10 incline merkins, 10 decline merkins, 10 dips
  • Run back down the road between the garage and Keffer stadium to our rocks

Round 2 – 15 reps of each exercise with the rocks. Up the near stairs, run across the top, down the far stairs back to the benches. 15 reps of each exercise there. Back to rocks.

Round 3 – 20 reps of each exercise with the rocks. Enter middle gate, up short ramps to the right and go up two levels or level 2 ( who knew there was a difference?), then go across and down the short ramps to the left. 20 reps of each exercise at the benches. Back to rocks.

Find a partner for some You Go/I Go lifting:

Round 1 – Partner A hold rock out front, Partner B 10 curls. You Go/I Go until each partner gets 50 curls.

Round 2 – Partner A hold rock over your head, Partner B 10 shoulder presses. You Go/I Go until each partner gets 50 presses.

Round 3 – Partner A hold high plank, Partner B 10 merkins. You Go/I Go until each partner gets 50 merkins.

Round 4 – Partner A hold rock above chest, Partner B 20 flutter kicks. You Go/I Go until each partner gets 100 flutter kicks.

Return our rocks and mosey back to launch via the visitors side of Keffer stadium. Just enough time for 10 burpees OYO. Done.

Late arriving crowd created quite a ruckus at launch time…a lot of mumblechatter over the disclaimer. Think it might have been an effort at plausible deniability of having ever been disclaimed. Go ahead, take my Corolla…I don’t care.

During our run to the top of the garage, we turned a corner and a little car was tucked into the first parking spot…almost took us out. There was an empty bottle of Remy Martin Cognac on the ground beside the driver’s door and a vintage red velvet smoking jacket laying across the front seat. Now we know where Pro ditched his old Nissan Versa.

A lot of complaints about muddy rocks. Sorry, it’s rained a lot. And these are drainage rocks. Planet Fitness calloused hands don’t notice, right Brushback?

Solid work out there by Speed Bag. Said this was day 5 in a row of posting. That’s a tough week brother…#Tclaps.

We kept the mileage to 2 miles and focused on the upper body this morning. Thanks for obliging while YHC nurses the pulled hamstring. A few questions about the tape on the back of the leg…mainly what is it and what does it do? Kinesiology Therapeutic Tape 1) lets everyone know you’re hurt (this is its most significant benefit), 2) is used to support and relieve pain in muscles, joints and ligaments, 3) reduces swelling, increases bloodflow and mobility, and 4) enhances recovery.

Always a good group of regulars at Centurion. Thanks for the brotherhood and the opportunity to lead.
