WTF is happening on 4/20!!!

That’s right! WTF is back again!

For those of you that did not make it previous years, or are unaware of what WTF is… Here are the basics:

Waxhaw Trail Fest will take place on Saturday April 20th. Registration is done as an individual, and race directors will assign you to a team based on average pace to keep all teams competitive. This is a trail run, relay style on 3 different trail loops setup at Cuthbertson Middle School in Waxhaw NC. The loops all start and stop at the WTF village where you and your fellow PAX can relax and enjoy some 2nd F until your next leg.  For the Standard Relay option, the race is complete when each member of your team runs each loop once, totaling approx 12 miles per runner. This year we are adding an alternate Relay Lite option for those that may not be able to commit to the full time, or don’t feel confident in the total distance. Relay Lite is still a team of 3, however each runner only completes one loop, and the team’s total distance will be 12 miles. The Solo option is a free-for-all. You can run/walk/ruck any or all loops to accommodate your own schedule and running capabilities.

Registration is $15– This will include your race, food, snacks and hydration throughout the event.

Long Sleeve T-shirt $15- If you would like to add the infamous WTF logo’d apparel for 2024

UPDATE 3/27:

*****DEADLINE FOR SHIRT ORDER HAS PASSED. WE WILL HAVE A HANDFUL OF EXTRAS ON SITE. THESE SHIRTS WILL BE AUCTIONED OFF TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER AND USED AS A DONATION TO CHARITY!****

Awards given to top overall team in the Standard relay, as well as the annual hand off of the sought after WTF Trophy

Every registered runner will get an email with updated Team information prior to the event, in addition to packet pickup information for the morning of the event.

In the village we will provide music, coffee, hydration, a BBQ grill setup with a selection of food, including sandwiches, chicken, burgers, and bacon and eggs. Please bring your own chairs and a team canopy if desired. Any team snacks or preferred drinks are up to each team.

All extra money raised will be held for donation. Last year we raised money for Cuthbertson school as well as the family of our fallen brother Ex-Lax.

Spread the word. Open to all. Last year was a great event, and this year is shaping up to be even better!

THE GREEN MILE (St Patty’s Saturday)

Attention runners, ruckers and even bikers …

Are you looking for an opportunity to put some easy miles in with your brothers? Maybe you need a training run for an upcoming race? Perhaps you just need a long distance Saturday run or ride?

Either way,  several PAX are interested in running the Little Sugar Creek Greenway on St. Patty’s Saturday and want you to join us for The Green Mile.

This is an out and back sticking to mainly Greenway paths. You can go as far out as you want. The initial group is commiting to a 50k out to Alexander Street Park at 739 E 12th St in Charlotte.

SOB’s chicken run and Waxhaw’s Paper Trail will converge together on Sat March 16th at the McCullen Creek Greenway entrance at Pikes Nursery parking lot:

12630 N Community House Rd, Charlotte, NC 28277 inside the Torrington plaza N of 485 off Johnston Rd.

Official launch time at 6am. Wear your favorite green St.Pattys attire. Bring hydration pack and all needed nutrition. Water, bananas, misc snacks will be provided at the launch location, but no water stations along the way. Headlamps/reflective gear suggested.

The route has been pre-planned and not a straight shot. There are several turns and areas where PAX can get turned around. I will do my best to mark turns ahead of Time. Please stick with at least one running partner and download the routes for help.

Additionally, please be aware of several safety factors. When the trail leads to Carolina Place, we will need to cross and run in the road for a short stretch. There can be many people along the Greenway including runners, riders, homeless ect. Please use caution and stick with your partner or group. We may even run across a race in progress.

Grab a running partner, and let’s do a really stupid and utterly pointless run together.

4x4x48

It’s about that time of year again, where some of the completely stupid show off just how far we are willing to go to prove it!

4x4x48 is a simple concept:

4 miles – every 4 hours – for 48 hours

We have done this in year’s past and had a “great” time pushing each other to continue on. This year with so many Waxhaw PAX doing 75 Hard, we figured we would change it up slightly to allow more PAX to join in and be stupid together!

The new rules will go as follows:

4 miles – OR – 45 mins of ruck or workout – every 4 hours – for 48 hours.

This will give you 3 distinct options you can choose or mix up throughout the 48hrs. We will be completing the first and last together as a group, and it will be a 45 min run/ruck. All others are to be completed on your own, or reach out to others to have them join you, but only the first and last will have a scheduled meet up location and route. The schedule will go as follows:

(3/8)Friday 8pm – first run together- launch from Floater

Friday Midnight

(3/9)Saturday 4am

Saturday 8am

Saturday noon

Saturday 4pm

Saturday 8pm

Saturday Midnight

(3/10)Sunday 4am

Sunday 8am

Sunday noon

Sunday 4pm – final run together – launch from Floater

And for those that want to celebrate together, we can grab a drink at Taphouse afterwards.

These times are approximate and meant to keep you on track, however if you have a conflict, just ensure to get your run/ruck/workout in before the 4 hour window expires and get back on track.

As always- hit the Slack channel to keep everybody accountable and informed of where your next run/ruck/workout may be held

Let’s go fellas!

Just another stupid way to pull us out of our comfort zones… And beds to do something completely stupid!…. See you there!

Saturday 4/22 Convergence- Neighborhood Watch XL

This Saturday 4/22 Commitment and Paper Trail are Converging for a running CSAUP. This event is a great way to get to know some of your fellow PAX as neighbors and promote this amazing group we are all fortunate to have found!

6am launch from Nesbit parking lot- YHC will be leading you all in a run to hit every PAX member that lives in Millbridge and Walnut Creek. Upon arrival, we will briefly stop to plant an F3 Waxhaw yard sign on their lawn, no Merkins, no imperial walkers, just plant the sign and move on to the next home. We will be staying together and/or doubling back for the 6 to not lose any runners along the way. This route will be just under 11 miles. I will have water stations at several PAX homes along the way, however if you have your own means for hydration, it is suggested. This will be 95% road will a short dirt section between hoods.

If you do not believe you can run all 11 miles, please feel free to join us somewhere along the route. Just the same, you can always cut out early if you are familiar with the neighborhood and can get back to the Nesbit lot.  I have attached a link to the course on Strava.

We will be carrying the F3Waxhaw flag and AO shovel flags along the way. Wear your favorite F3 shirt and join us in showing these neighborhoods who we are and maybe even pick up a few FNG’s along the way. Headlamps will not be required, but feel free if preferred.

Memorial Day Murph- Waxhaw (Pre-blast)

Its about that time to start planning for The Murph!

Every year, of bunch of us idiots get together for a painfully stupid workout so we can honor the memory of Lt Michael Murphy who was killed in action in Afghanistan over 15 years ago. This year will be no different. On Memorial Day,  Monday May 31 we will head to Cuthbertson Middle school for a 6:30 kickoff of The Murph. Please park at Rudy’s Poop Palace, and arrive early to stretch and hear the guidelines.

What is the Murph?

1 mile Run

100 Pull-ups

200 Merkins

300 Air Squats

1 mile Run

20 lb weight vest is optional, but encouraged for extra suck

This year we will be offering 2 separate options:

First will be a stricter rules – “Crossfit Games” style murph. A bit more difficult overall, but straight forward suck

2nd option will be a more Covid friendly version where we will substitute the pullups for additional stations, and more of a choose your own order of suck

Either one you choose, we’ll start the run at the same time, and be close enough to cheer each other on… or more likely smack talk!

On the fence, or not sure you have hit enough AO’s to be fully prepared? No worries! YHC is committing to Qing 1 workout/ week dedicated to Murph training. I will host a weekly Thursday night 6pm workout called MURPHy’s Law. We will focus on everything Murph related to better prepare you for the stupidity….

Temporary Weekly Workout- MURPHy’s Law

The Murph can be very intimidating and can definitely pull you out of your comfort zone. However, that is exactly what F3 is for. Come on out and join your fellow pax. Push your body a little farther today than what you did yesterday, and leave a better version of yourself!

Temporary Weekly Workout- MURPHy’s Law

So I put some feelers out there, and got a little interest…. so I’m just gonna go for it. Even if nobody shows up, at least I will be holding myself accountable for 1 focused workout/week.

The Murph:

1 Mile Run

100 Pull-ups

200 Merkins

300 Air Squats

1 mile Run

I am going to host a weekly F3 Waxhaw workout. Every Thursday Evening at 6pm at Nesbit Park for 10 weeks, leading up to Memorial Day.  I will put together a Circuit based workout focused on muscle groups associated with the Murph. Come to one or come to all 10. We will focus on specific workouts and body movements to help better prepare anybody for The Memorial Day Murph. All skill levels are ok, you can modify as needed. This is meant to be a supportive workout. Meaning, this alone is not enough to be fully prepared for the Murph. Utilizing this once/ week workout will aid in the strength and endurance required for the actual event.

Shoot me a message if interested, and we can discuss more details.

PRE-BLAST for WAXHAW TRAIL FEST w/ updates and course info

As many of us unwillingly continue to sit around and wait for Covid restrictions to lift, hoping we’ll be able to enjoy our favorite races in person again, we in Waxhaw have decided to take matters into our own hands and just create our own! With several successful years of great F3 presence at The Ragnar Trail series, and having The Carolina Thread trail in our backyard, YHC along with several others figured a F3 trail relay would naturally be the next stupid idea… and with that, Waxhaw Trail Fest was born….WTF!

Here’s the basics:

Saturday May 1st, teams of 3, will run relay style on 3 different trail legs setup at Walnut Creek Park in Indian Land SC. The loops all start and stop at the WTF village where you and your fellow PAX can relax and enjoy some 2nd F until your next leg.  The race is complete when all of your team runs each loop once, totaling approx 13 miles per runner. With a 6:30am starting line time, I would expect the final runners to be coming in around 1pm+ so plan accordingly, and arrive early to find your team. This may be the first time meeting your teammates.

Registration will be as an individual. We just need your info, including best estimated 5k road pace. We will assign all runners to evenly matched teams of 3 through a live draft held at The Waxhaw Taphouse on Wednesday 4/28 at 7pm. Runner presence for the draft is suggested, but not necessary. Every registered runner will get an email with updated Team information.

Cut-off time for registration will be 12 noon on Wednesday 4/28. We will need to assign teams that evening, and want to have everything in order. However, if you are still interested and it is passed the cutoff, please contact one of us. Will are still holding places for race-day alternates.

Link to Registration

In the village we will provide music, hydration, a BBQ grill setup with a selection of food. Please bring your own chairs and a team canopy if desired. Any team snacks or preferred drinks are up to each team.

We are working on sponsors to help cover some of our overall costs. At this point we are taking a $10 registration fee to go toward trail and village setup, food, hydration ect. Any extra money will be added to the F3 Waxhaw fund.

Please send money to YHC via Venmo or Paypal to: @TonyAmore

Unfortunately the deadline to preorder t-shirts has passed. Those that ordered, the shirts should be available at the draft, otherwise they will be given out on race day. If you missed the deadline and are still interested, we have ordered a handful of extras that will be available on race day.

BB- Gladiator (The return of The Black Diamond)

In our little region of Waxhaw, YHC and several other pax really took to the IronPAX challenge in September. The idea of complaining about every detail of each workout, pushing yourself to just shy of Merlot spillage (or beyond for guys like Deadwood), or not being able to walk or raise your arms for several days following… Just seemed like something we were really gonna miss after it ended. Dasher and I got to talking and figured what the hell…. Let’s see if we can bring back the Black Diamond workout. We want this re-launch to be something the pax can look forward to, not get overwhelmed by. So we decided to change it up a bit- We decided to give it a name- Gladiator- Something that strikes fear into those that think they want to attend, and has good marketing value for those that like to promote. The biggest difference for now is that it will only be held once/mo. The dates will be posted 1 month in advance, however the location will not be revealed until 1 week prior to the workout.

Previous BD rules still apply:. Intend to push yourselves past what you think your body is capable of. This style of workout isn’t intended to pickup the Six, but to push the Six! The workout can be at any site chosen by the Q, either official F3 AO or not, Q’s choice. Q chooses his successor from someone who completes his workout. He then has around 4 weeks to plan a brutal beatdown… And there you have our Gladiator!

Today YHC chose Nesbit Park for the inaugural Gladiator beatdown:

Disclaimer given: High intensity- little down time- Fast paced moseys- stick together … Don’t sue anyone!

A few announcements as a group…

Welcome FNG- Hammered

YHC had a lot of fun planning this workout, and had so much more fun in store, however I drastically underestimated the amount of time some of these stations would take. Either way- looking forward to the next Gladiator on November 16th with Dasher on Q! Location to be released in a couple of weeks.
