Old Spice Loop

With Honey Bee out of town and in need of a volunteer, YHC decided it was time to step up and hive leading a try. With the caveat that YHC’s “tempo pace” may more closely resembles many of the PAX “fellowship pace,” volunteer was accepted by Honey Bee.
The Thang
Having run countless miles through Piper Glen and Raintree over the years, YHC felt confident that a 6 mile route known as the “Old Spice Loop” would prove challenging and be a great training run for those prepping for Thunder Road.
Not sure it proved challenging, however, except for YHC and halfway through I recalled that I was in the company of BRR vets, including one “mountain goat!”
The Thang
At 5:15, we gathered and launched into the unseasonably chilly gloom. YHC was intentionally vague on directions for the first half of of the route hoping strategically to harness the reins of the faster PAX.
YHC ran the first 3 miles at his “tempo pace.” This allowed for some good 2nd F surrounding F3, the weather and upcoming plans for Thunder Road.
At about Mile 1.5, Mighty Mite asked why we I called it the Old Spice Loop and I explained that in the middle of the run, we would be doing a little 0.6 mile loop off the beaten path called Old Spice in Raintree that should prove to be a challenge midway in the run. As we approached this section, I asked for a little extra effort. The boys responded and I got more than I bargained for as I began barking the directions louder from the back. The Boys were in familiar territory as we started back to the barn and I can proudly say that, in true F3 form, they opened the throttle up and continued that extra effort all the way back.
Not sure what everyone’s pace was but I brought up the rear averaging 8:03, meaning average for the group had a 7 handle with it.
A very impressive run and effort by all this morning and all look soundly prepared to dominate at Thunder Road.
I am grateful for the privilege of  leading these strong men today.
If you like to run, give Devil’s Turn a try.

Moleskin
Haggis is the fastest person I know with an ongoing “IT band injury.” Apparently, speed and hills help the healing.
I need to write raving reviews for Turkey Leg’s headlamp and vest. I can testify that the rear red blinkies are visible from a long distance away! Safety first. #blackdiamond #amphipod
YHC was in such oxygen debt post run that he accidentally tweeted and referenced Fast Twitch instead of Devil’s Turn. Aye! #rookie #feltlikefasttwitch

Moleskin:

Tiger Rag led a Twitter announced pre-Kettlebell workout for YHC, Wingman, and Runstopper.  Muggsy joined in halfway through.  It was a two-handed swing ladder.  By YHC’s count, 420 swings were performed by each man.  Ouch.

As the clock struck 6 AM, there was much mumblechatter concerning the scheduled Q’s(Dolphin) absence.  YHC stepped up for the sole purpose of avoiding an additional hour of TR’s painful imagination.

In addition to many pirate themed exercises, there was additional mumblechatter of the Pax pulling of a Qtiny to avoid completing the Shiver Me Timbers Jack Webbs and during the hill runs.  #yarrrrrr

YHC likes to invent something new when given the opportunity to Q.  On such short notice, hopefully the nautically themed Jack Webbs sufficed.

During Coffeeteria, Market Timer got a text from Dolphin explaining that he had slept through his alarm.  Thank you for the opportunity to Q Stonehenge for the first time, Dolphin.  #ZZZZZZZZZ

Announcements:

Its been almost 36 hours since the completion of this workout so YHC has forgotten what was announced.  Sound off in the blast if you’d like to have your voice heard.

Moleskin:

Tiger Rag said “It’s a little late for a warmup now.” before the SSH and after the 27 burpees.  YHC must admit, it was a little difficult to give a cadence count after 27 burpees.

YHC introduced Suicide by Burpees at Day Zero on Saturday.  Surpisingly, no pax from Saturday were present at The Maul this morning.  Perhaps YHC is developing a bit of a bad reputation…

To no one’s surprise, Runstopper smoked the Suicide by Burpees.

When YHC called for the second round of 27 burpees, Frehly’s Comet asked if it was a serious instruction.  It was.  It didn’t look like he enjoyed them.

At the conclusion of COT, an SUV rolled into the parking lot.  Mic Check and Runstopper alleged the driver to be YHC’s mother.  It was not.  YHC didn’t enjoy that line of conversation.

Welcome to FNG Craig B. who will be known from now on as Twister.

Mic Check on Q next week.  His birthday is not next week.

Announcements:

Before we got started this morning, Bratwurst asked YHC if I was missing something(kettlebell was out of view).  YHC responded that it had been a long wedding weekend and was fearful that my pants were missing. Not surprisingly, missing pants became a running joke for the rest of the morning.

YHC learned the Filthy Fifty during Crossfit and thought it would be a good first time KB workout Q.  The 50 upright rows were a self smoker.

Market Timer orchestrated a Q-tiny(mutiny of the Q) during the lunge walk back to the starting point.  He took a stand against oppression and tyranny by raising his fists in the air(with kettlebells in each had).  A fist in the air in the land of hypocrisy.  #rageagainstthemachine

Area 51 September 11th Convergence

united

98 men gathered in the gloom this morning to pay respect to all those who lost their lives 12 years ago.  After a short COP, the pax split up into 5 groups led by the Wednesday morning site Qs.  To honor the memory of all those affected by the tragedy, the remainder of the workout was completed in silence.  The workout concluded with the pax reciting the Lord’s Prayer.

Moleskin:

Great work by everyone this morning.  T-claps to the Q’s for leading the pax and effectively demonstrating all the exercises in slience.  Also T-claps to all the pax for such a strong effort and maintaining their silence throughout the morning.

This morning was a powerful reminder of how blessed we are to enjoy the gift of life.  Keep the victims and their families in your thoughts and prayers today.

Long Distance was clearly very excited to get his first Q started.  He started sprinting from the start point to get to the warmup COP and left the rest of the pax in the dust.

I don’t think any a single member of the pax could claim they weren’t smoked after dips/derkins/burpee cocktail that Long Distance mixed up over by the fountain.  Ouch.

YHC asked Subway if he preferred merkins or bear crawls.  Which is akin to asking a man if he would like to spend the day at the DMV or on jury duty.  Both are quite distasteful.

YHC is still puzzled as to how Philmont was able to beat him in the last sprint of the day.  Coulda sworn I had 20 pace lead on him at one point…

The Sons of Ballantyne will be facing off against the Fast Twits….er Fast Twitchers on Tuesday, August 27th at Jay M Robinson Middle at 5:15(not 5:30).  There will be a variety of events including a mile run and relay event.  If you’re a regular at either workout, you’re encouraged to attend and compete.  The normally scheduled Fast Twitch and Bagpipe workouts are cancelled next week on the day of this competition.

New Thursday workout, Rebel Yell, launches 8/29 at Polo Ridge Elementary.

New 3rd F workout begins 9/13 at the Panera at Carmel Commons.  The group will be discussing the book, “Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire”.

Really, 100 Merkin Rows?

(20) Pax came out to enjoy a hump day full body workout. Even the neighborhood fox stopped to stare.

The Thang:

With a partner you would perform a combined 100 reps of each exercise. While partner 1 was

performing the exercise; partner 2 would be sprinting roughly 40 yards and back. The partners would

then switch until they reached 100 total reps. The first exercise we sprinted up the hill; but quickly

changed that idea.

¼ mile warm up jog

100 burpees  / sprint up hill in between

100 dry docks / sprints in between

100 russian twists / sprints in between

100 merkin rows / sprints in between

100 heels to the heavens / sprints in between

100 diamond push ups / sprints in between

¼ mile cool down job

Mic Check finished them off with a little protractor

Moleskin:

What a smoker of a first time Q!  The pax started off with burpee and hill work and it never got any easier.

After another visit from our vulpine mascot, Wingman wants to rename this site to The Mad Fox.  We might face some copyright issues with The Foxhole.  Market Timer and Honeybee would probably sue us and the litigation could get ugly.

Haggis was still getting plenty of grief for his “un F3 comment” from Bagpipe yesterday.

YHC and Mic Check dropped the ball on getting our FNG Polo’s contact info.  Please sound off in the comments or send an email to poole.trip@gmail.com if you have an email address for Polo or Philmont.

Announcements:

Not much in the way of announcements in this morning.

As always, Mic Check and YHC are always looking for new pax to step up and guest Q.  We’ve had a couple good ones in the last few weeks and have some others scheduled for the next few weeks.  If you have any interest in leading a half or a whole workout, please see one of us.

There will be a new Thursday workout starting at Polo Ridge Elementary but it won’t be starting this week.  Stay tuned.

There are, however, plenty of other workouts to go to on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday this week.  Go to them.

There will be lots of cuts today.

Great work by all of the Pax today.  Coach Mic Check and YHC were really excited to put this one on and we greatly appreciated everyone’s patience while we explained new exercises.

The inflextion in Coach Mic Check’s voice made it very difficult to tell when the Mac Tar Jai cadence was finished.  Some pax stopped early, even more lost count, all of them were confused.

YHC wasn’t sure how well the the car push was going to work.  Given the fact that this blast isn’t being posted from a body shop, we’ll chalk it up as a success.

The QB/WR/DB competition was a lot of fun.  It’s pretty apparent that a lot of the pax used to spend some time on the gridiron back in the day.  It was also apparent, that “back in the day” was a looooonng time ago for some of them.  #leatherhelmets
