If it doesn’t go into Marvin is it still Marvin Miles?

Three PAX ran a Marvin Miles loop that didn’t actually go to Marvin.  Worse than that naming convention conundrum, one PAX arrived 1-2 minutes late, saw the vehicles of Polly and Frasier in the parking lot and realized that it was a terrible day to arrive late. Even though the speedsters ran a restful 8:01 pace, YHC didn’t see them until COT.

Set your alarms, don’t hit snooze, don’t deliberate on what to wear even if the temps just went below freezing again.

I got 5 on it

Rolled up to COT in the clown car from the Throne and 5’s on my mind; being my 5 Q and all.

Warmup

Half a lap Mosey through the main parking followed by

5 rounds – 5 exercises- 5 reps (I got 5 on it)

  • Side Straddle Hops
  • Imperial Walkers
  • Merkins
  • Mountain Climber
  • Plank Jack

Calf Stretch Right/Left

Runners Stretch Right/Left

5 Burpees for good measure

Thang: Mosey over the front of the school. Stopped half way to do 25 shoulder taps to keep the PAX together.

Ran the front loop stopped at light pool to do 5 Mike Tysons at the 1st light and 5 Carolina Dry Docks at the 2nd light

Goodfella fed us all to the fishes on this one. Mosey back to get the 6.

Next Mosey over to the hill by the lake but stopped half way to do a quick 5 on it Burpees.

Half the PAX did 5 hill sprints while the other half did squats. During this noticed Noonan went missing pulling a page from Smuggler’s playbook. He did still have his hat and socks though!

Finished up and Mosey over to the track for some Mary and running as request by The Juice.

Pick a partner- 1 runs the track with 5 burpees at the corner the other performs ab work and than switch.

Exercises included Big Boys, LBC, Freddie Mercury’s, Heels to Heaven, American Hammers

Mosey back to COT but stopped at the Hill to do a jail break to finish.

Moleskin: This was a heart pounder and little chatter with all the men working so hard. Most were totally gassed by the end. Got around 3 miles of running in.

Out of the woodwork

5 7 9 13 Many PAX showed up for Chicken Run to get their own miles in and to support brothers who were DR running races.  YHC was one of the late-comers who caught up with some along the way and appeared out of nowhere to others once we all arrived back at the PetSmart.  Good discussions and nice, follow-able route by Tron on his first Chicken Q.

Viernes picoso

The 3/19 edition of Marvin Miles turned out to be a spicy one as the group of ocho picked up the pace. Two store FNGs made it out, but only Paper Jam protested the format and its lack of a count-o-rama at the end. YHC would comment more on the conversation and commentary but the gap with the frontrunners limited that awareness. Prohibition was generous enough to run sweep with YHC and we talked many things that are now a blur. Welcome, Blood clot, to Marvin Miles and week look forward to seeing you more often. Tiger Rag had to find another dancing partner with tigerball on pause for a few days, and Frasier and Bunker still think 50 degrees is long sleeve weather. Finally, don’t tell Polly there a BB and official tag for Marvin Miles or it might sink us.

Wet 1s

7 PAX swiftly ran mile repeats in the rain in Ballantyne, with a minute of rest between intervals. Nice job of Frasier bringing the accountability at the start and asking guys what their goal time for each Mike was. Two answered with some level of confidence. YHC had a goal but want to confident in it, missed it by a few seconds consistently. Say it loud, say it proud.

Questionable reading material

5 PAX showed for some Marvin Miles, wait, one more is driving in as the PAX left, so hold up and now leave with 6. Six ran through Marvin and continued to question Bunker’s reading and viewing material as he prepares for running The Grand Canyon next month with several other PAX. When a couple of failed attempts is the most positive result he’s finding, it’s definitely worth reconsidering your plans — or at least updating your will before heading out. They also don’t have a place to stay yet so it might end being a multi-day situation worse than BRR. Turkey Leg is about to taper for the Chesapeake Marathon, which probably isn’t the Shamrock Marathon, and he’ll hopefully have high recommendations for his chiropractor soon. Frasier took it easy today before the ultra division at The Rooster tomorrow, while Bratwurst and YHC enjoyed the run before heading home to hear from our teens about how we’re cruelly forcing them to miss virtual Friday to take the pre ACT.  (Channel Allen Iverson and “Practice?!”). And Gold Digger has figured out this fatherhood thing, but graciously listens to advice from others who would likely admit feelings of great inadequacy in this area, especially at the early months when mom does all the work and not just most of it.

Good times in Marvin.

Like olden times

YHC was recently looking back on Strava and saw an early post at Swift where we logged > 7 miles and compared that to more recent work where we may be hovering around 6 or low 6+ miles.  On Tuesday Brat’s pyramid of 3/5/7/10/7/5/3 with a mere minute of recovery time after each T-pace segment (except for 2 minutes after the 10) brought back the high mileage days where even someone on the backside of the curve (ahem, YHC) picks up serious miles.  It also helped that we arrived a couple of minutes past 0615, but the point is that the long intervals on little rest are making a comeback and they hurt.  And somehow, southbound on North Community House feels like continuous uphill.

Fahvra was killing it and it was great to see Fleetwood back at it in the gloom.  Kudos to Gruden and Kirby for pushing each out to the be there — until Kirby disappeared.  Some say he was chasing down the gazelles on their 10-mile day, but we may never know the truth.

And why the BB?  Because #waxhawcounts

No fire needed here

March came in like a lion with a warm and humid morning in the 60s at Firestarter. Haze brought some repetition and sprints that bright out some competition and also showed that the concept of “end of the parking space, not the line” can be a challenging one. Another challenge: Q called for a “chair plank.” Appears to be very similar to a squat, chair squat out Al Gore.

Why this? #waxhawcounts

Some guys ran

YHC was indifferent on the Marvin Miles route and Polly posted one. Four PAX showed and more or less ran the route, avoiding a flooded, impassible section of the mean paths of Marvin. Discussion included kids, podcasts, vaccine rollout and side effects, Bunker seeing news that a body was found on the same path that several guys will be running at the Grand Canyon next month. He decided not to share that story with his M and may have washed away that guilt with a cookie or two from Crumbl. PAX also learned to steer clear of YHC if seen driving an older Toyota Sienna because the Boot family is looking for an insurance opportunity to cover its demise.

For most, it was a Marv-covery run but for one it’s more of a push, but that’s the beauty of this thing.

Arrived to Body Shop nice & early with Orchid. Got out of the car to do a quick warm up when I felt the cup of coffee I had start to rumble the six-pack.

Quickly grabbed my Q notes and bolted for the woods. Took care of business in a flash and found a trash can for the notes.

Moseyed back to the car and thankfully the wife loaded me up with hand sanitizer. Feeling 10 pounds lighter. I was ready to take on the Q and lead the PAX.

Warmup

Double lap Mosey through the parking lot waiting on Big Ben and poss FNG coming in HOT.

20 Side Straddle Hops

20 Imperial Walkers

20 Squat

20 Merkins

Downward Dog

Calf Stretch Right/Left

Runners Stretch Right/Left

20 Plank Jacks

10 Burpees

Thang: Mosey over the main road.

Ran out to Rea Rd (1/2 mile each way) stopping at each light pole on the right to perform the below.

1 Burpees – 2 Jump Squat – building reps at each light pole ( 2 Burpees – 4 Jump Squat , 3-6 etc. up to 8 Burpees and 16 Jump Squat )

McGee crushed it as we all tried to keep up. Some ran back to grab the 6th and Mosey over to the back parking lot.

Next the PAX lined up along the curb for some solid leg work ladder.

Big Ben lead us off with 10 reps of squats followed by lunge walk to the other side of the parking lot and run back.

Did this format adding 1 rep each man up to 20 reps. Shortly into it the PAX wanted to pick their own exercise after the squats including;

-Duck Walk, Bear Crawl, Crawl Bear, Crab Walk, Backwards Lunge-

This took much longer than anticipated but fun group exercise with lots of chatter amongst the PAX.

Fast Mosey around the parking lot with 20 big boys at the corner. This is where I shared my story of the Q notes and plumbing issues.

With the remaining time we Mosey to the Rock Pile and picked a lifting rock and a partner to complete the following.

1 partner did squats with the rock and the other ran to the 2nd light pole and did 10 heals to heaven —than the partners switched

1 partner did thrusters (squat to overhead) with the rock and the other ran to the 2nd light pole and did 10 dollys -than the partners switched

Mosey back to COT.

Moleskin: PAX seemed to all push it pretty hard and most were gassed by the end.
