Schedule a convergence of A51’s two finest Wednesday workouts, call it CCC, add a promised visit and words from Dredd, then throw in some free coffee and you can expect big numbers — which is exactly what we had. Luckily (or more likely by Dollywood’s design), there is no better AO in the southland to accommodate a big crew than Calvary Church.

A few quick observations (emphasis on a few). Group 4 Whoever started with Freddie Mercury (you know who you are) needs to ditch their Garmin watches, get a good ol’ Timex, and watch the hands for a little while. If you need further lessons in clockwise vs counter-clockwise, my 5-year old is available and accepts pizza or red, white & blue Skittles as payment; Passing 10 burpees in a row sucks, every time, even if it’s only to do 15; Almost everyone missed the memo on wheelbarrows coming back and instead gathered early for coffee and hot air in the hot box. Found us doing Mary a few minutes later. Please apologize to your shoulders for denying them their full potential.

Good times watching Rachel and Dollywood race it out during the rock sets. Hairball, angry at the thought of his growing biceps creating wind resistance, called YHC out for killing time with the rocks. #AnvilVirgin. Must’ve thought he saw Jack Webb creeping around somewhere. Leading the herd took up the remainder of YHC’s energy, attention, and limited vocal cord capabilities – please add additional observations below (looking at you, Hops).

Appreciate Mermaid’s advice in planning for today and his readiness to step up and help if we needed to split the group. Mermaid EHed me a little over a year ago and has been an indispensable source of support and encouragement ever since in both F3 as well as my private life. Prime example of what it means to go beyond the easy part to have a deeper impact (more on that below).

Also appreciate Dredd taking the time to speak with those who were able to stay after (and Geraldo who came over from the Donut Run). While I definitely can’t reiterate what was said (the man has a way with words), a few takeaways for YHC personally:

  • Disruptive mumblechatter: Dredd provided us with plenty of this today, but the good kind of disruptive mumblechatter, the kind with a purpose. During a workout, deep in the pain cave, is a great time to hit a man with tough questions. Too often we spend that time complaining about the work, engaging in shallow chit-chat, or suffering in silence. Use the opportunity and time you have with your brothers to challenge each other and to dig deeper. The more we can focus on relentlessly building relationships with those around us, the greater our ability to have a positive impact and to recognize and react when we are needed most.
  • F3 is the easy part: EHing is easy (once you try it). We all want to give away this gift we have found and it’s pretty non-threatening to ask a guy to come workout. Bring him in, let F3 takeover. But, then there is the hard part. What about when that man stops showing up, or gets injured, or has problems at home? What about the man who just isn’t going to do F3? Do we write them off as a person we can’t reach or are they worth a little extra trouble to dig into another way? For those of us who are Christian, do we take on the daunting task of discipling non-believers or do we avoid that (often awkward) subject? Every case is different. But, if we are not asking ourselves these questions and leveraging F3 as a training ground for deeper pursuits (YHC is certainly guilty here), maybe we should be.

To be clear, I am definitely not claiming to represent Dredd or his views. This is just a little of what I came away thinking about when Dredd was done talking and I am sure every man had his own takeaways. If you missed today, I highly recommend you do your best to make the next convergence/speaker in July. Definitely a great way to spend the morning. Big thank you to Dollywood for his leadership in organizing this (stay tuned for the next one) and for the opportunity to lead today.

Finally, in the not-tough question category, what does CCC stand for? I am going with Calvary Church Convergence, but I am certain you creative types can come up with something much more interesting than that.

You got the wrong group there brother. Group 3 went counter clock-wise and I am not giving up my Garmin. We may have cheated some (we did finish first) but we went in the right direction.

Acknowledged and amended accordingly. Hedged my bets on trusting you and removed group number from the equation.

Thin Mint. Awesome post.

S/O to Smokey, Lobster, Magee for being behind this idea. Already looking forward to July.

As per your request Thin Mint, here are a few observations:
1. The previous Thin Mint Q I was subjected too, I was hurting and my heart was racing. Potential reasons: 1)I’m in poor shape and need to post more often (likely), 2) I’ve got some heart rate issues or 3) Thin Mint’s particular brand of Q is collective Kryptonite for me

2. Dredd once told me what he lacks in quality, he makes up for in quantity when it comes to mumblechatter. This morning both were in full supply, during the workout and after. Grateful to him and others for their willingness and drive to start F3. My life’s forever changed, as are 1000’s (yes 1000’s) of others. True story.

3. Rumors of TR’s not doing boot camp workouts proved untrue today….though that was his first one in 8 months or more. And pretty sure he refusenik’d almost everything other than the running, though I was so deep in the cave I can’t be sure.

4. Dredd remembered Rachel from somewhere but couldn’t place it. Rachel, in his humble, understated way reminded Dredd it was at Metro’s Goat where he was repeatedly lapping the Nation’s Nantan.

5. O’Tannenbaum was LIFO, and then was dizzied by Dredd’s inquisition.

6. Puddin’ downsized his rock during the rock/run sets….I think he was worn out more from Dredd’s disruptive mumblechatter than from the lifting. Either way….#necessarymodification

7. Tri Delta hates his nickname which means it’s perfect

8. T-claps to Mermaid for organizing and encouraging the food drive for Calvary Church. The security guard came over and gave him a big bear hug this morning before we launched. They’re on a first name basis.

9. Wolfman runs faster with his bald head, but M. Wolfman is not a fan. Dredd was going on about Wolfman playing football at Pitt, and Wolfman was surprised to hear Dredd’s never been to Pittsburgh. Who knew Buddy Hackett used to coach at Pitt….he didn’t but Dredd thought so. Never let the facts get in the way of mumblechatter!

10. Lastly, can we get the bathrooms opened by our friends at Calvary next time we do the coffeteria? Pert near had to steal Dredd’s sarong when the coffee started churning.

Great Q Thin Mint, and even better backblast. Thankful for all you jokers.

Awesome backblast Thin Mint. Thanks for the lowdown for those who missed.

If you liked what you heard, then join us for Q-Source Sundays 8am Cotswold Brueggers, and you can once again hear Dredd ramble great thoughts in the comfort of his sarong.

Strong Q TM. Expected a beating. 42 is a lot to Lead. Well done. As usual brother. Remember the EH on the pool deck–was in a knee brace awaiting surgery. Thankful you posted, my friend, and for your subsequent tireless leadership. Well done.

Really enjoyed and took to heart the words from Dredd. Powerful message. T-claps. For all of it.

Thanks for setting this up DW. Great idea

Forgot to mention–it was me who sent the group in the wrong direction. Did not hear the call for counter and made an assumption. That’s what we do. We still got the work done. I always call clockwise on Q. Guess no one else on team heard it either. Trouble with 40+.

It sounds like Mermaid called the #crazyivan.

Sorry to miss the beatdown and mumblechatter. It sounds like it was epic.
