Fourteen men came for a romp through the hilly darkness. By the numbers:

  • 12 A51
  • 2 Metro
  • 4 Site FNGs (Margo, Swiss Miss, Nabisco and Hannibal)
  • 1 fallen pine tree
  • 1 chain-smoking exhibitionist (Giggity, giggity, giggity)
  • 1 smug deer (UPDATE: And another shy one that MAD saw)
  • 1 dog the size of a smug deer
  • 1 Yucca plant
  • 1 candid photo (High Tide hiding in the bushes again)
  • 1 hill that never ends
  • 1 degenerative hip
  • 0 Heart Rate training guys
  • 0 cars
  • 50 Stars, 13 Stripes

No need to pretend that anyone is going to follow a Q or Weinke. I planned on doing Yucca repeats this week.  You may have needed something else so do what you will and assemble at the flag pole at 0608 for the Pledge. Everything usually shakes out in the first 10 minutes as people settle into paces, groups and desired workout needs.  A notional Weinke for the Site FNGs and Free Play seems to be a winning combo.

The giant oak tree blocking Boo Radley’s driveway has been moved to allow inbound traffic.  The outbound lane is still blocked.  Like, Zoinks!

59 days until BRR.  Don’t cheat yourself like 7/9 of Free Range is doing.

Rule follower that I am, I really struggled with the dilemma of, do I go with Mt Yucca repeats or the “normal” laps? The novelty of yucca repeats won out, but I’m not sure I ever made peace with the decision.

On another note, I was happy to find the gravel road for a quick pitstop, #prehydrationdoneright, about as far from Chester’s place as you can get.

I don’t cheat. I just prefer to run with bears: https://www.strava.com/activities/634068183

Thanks for the BB, the leadership, and the take out TR. That was terrible and great.
I saw 2 deer, not 1. It was a great excuse to stop and take a photo break. I did not see HT in the bushes. I wound up doing some loops, some Yucca repeats, and some misdirection exercises – clockwise then counterclockwise. Due to that, plus the speed differential, I think Fletch passed me 6 or 7 times. Great work everyone! And that’s quite a route there Bushwood!

This morning was humbling. I got some work to do. I am glad Chester didn’t have the chainsaw out to cut that tree while we were there.

Saddled up on the horse a few times now and each time its a humbling ride. The hills dont creep up on you – you see them coming and they hit you in the face. Beaker was flying out there this morning – a man on a mission. Chester is creepy, but it is hard not to look.
